Senior EmbeddedSoftware Engineer
to join one of our clients' teams. If you're looking for an exciting opportunity to grow in a innovative environment, this could be the perfect fit for you.
ABOUT THE CLIENT
Our client is an innovative aerospace technology company that is transforming system integration through AI-driven interoperability. Their core platform streamlines satellite integration workflows by enabling modular connectivity between payloads, components, and subsystems. It converts hardware specifications into digital twins and automatically generates, tests, and validates on-board middleware software that is both hardware- and OS-agnostic. This web-based collaborative tool supports mission-critical projects, allowing teams to efficiently model, test, and simulate data interfaces for satellites, spacecraft, and lunar landers.
NOTE: this position requires working on-site and relocation to Luxembourg.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
As Senior Embedded Software Engineer, you will architect, implement, and maintain our hardware-agnostic and OS-agnostic on-board software framework. Your work in collaboration with the AI team will enable integration of any hardware into any bus in less than a day instead of months, ensuring robustness, safety, and performance across Linux and real-time operating systems.
What You’ll Do
1. Platform & Abstraction
▪ Design and develop a hardware-agnostic HAL and middleware stack in C/C++, supporting ARM Cortex-A/R/M, RISC-V, etc.
▪ Create OS-agnostic abstraction layers to target Linux (Yocto/Ubuntu) and RTOS (FreeRTOS, Zephyr, RTEMS) with minimal code divergence.
2. Driver & Protocol Implementation
▪ Implement and maintain bus-protocol drivers (I2C, SPI, UART) with multi-bus and multi-instance support for redundancy.
▪ Define and adhere to clear software-to-hardware interface contracts (ICDs/datasheet-driven), ensuring consistent behavior across platforms.
3. Architecture & Best Practices
▪ Apply OOP principles in C++ and structured design in C to build modular, testable components.
▪ Enforce MISRA C/C++ and CERT Secure Coding guidelines; integrate static analysis, code reviews, and Git-based CI pipelines.
4. Automation & Testing
▪ Develop Python scripts to automate configuration of the on-board software, automate build, flashing, and validation across multiple target boards.
▪ Build and maintain hardware-in-the-loop and software-in-the-loop test frameworks to continuously test, validate, and verify the on-board software and platform compatibility.
5. Collaboration & Mentorship
▪ Collaborate with the Software Lead, AI Engineer and Backend team
▪ Mentor junior engineers, share knowledge on cross-platform strategies, and foster an iterative “try, learn, improve” culture.
Required Qualifications
1. Bachelor’s or Master’s in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent
2. 5+ years of embedded software development, with emphasis on cross-platform or portable code
3. Expert in C (99/11) and Modern C++ (11/14/17); solid understanding of OOP and procedural design
4. Deep experience with I2C, SPI, UART (multi-bus, multi-device patterns)
5. Proven ability to develop for both Linux (Yocto, Ubuntu) and RTOS (FreeRTOS, Zephyr, RTEMS)
6. Python scripting for coding, build/test automation
7. Familiarity with hardware debugging (JTAG/SWD, logic analyzers, oscilloscopes)
8. Strong version control workflow (Git, GitFlow) and CI/CD integration
Nice-to-Have
1. Background in satellite or aerospace on-board computers (OBCs) and Flight Software Frameworks.
2. Exposure to container-based CI for embedded builds (Docker)
3. Knowledge of additional field buses (CAN/CAN-FD, MIL-STD, etc.)

PlanetScale is growing rapidly and reinventing the database space. The PlanetScale platform offers both Postgres and Vitess clusters. Vitess, an open-source database clustering system for horizontal scaling of MySQL, enables businesses to efficiently handle large-scale data workloads — without sacrificing developer experience.
Our customers entrust us with what is often their most precious digital asset, their data, so the stakes couldn't be higher. We're looking for a Software Engineer to join our core engineering team and help us build the next generation of database infrastructure.
What's the job to be done?
You will advise and handle support requests from enterprise customers on the PlanetScale platform.
You will become a customer-facing subject-matter expert for enterprise customers on the PlanetScale platform.
You will identify product gaps in a customer-specific context and work with Technical Account Management, Engineering and Sales Engineering teams to prioritize and escalate them.
You will be part of an on call rotation for high priority issues.
These attributes best describe you…
You are comfortable in front of customers, empathetic but understanding when to push back to help customers become successful on their own.
You have excellent debugging and troubleshooting skills; with a mix of enough experience and intuition to zero in on root-causes for bugs that can leave others stumped.
You are comfortable stepping outside your comfort zone. Be it delving into unfamiliar code in Vitess, one of its dependencies, or a random MySQL connector, written in a language you may not know (yet!). Working with code as your main source of documentation doesn't fluster you, and you are happy to help add/correct it as necessary where it may be inaccurate.
You can operate independently, but you know when you are in too deep and need to ask for help.
You know how to work under pressure in times of urgency. We and our customers both take issues with their data platform seriously.
What you will need
Experience supporting production databases and applications, preferably at scale.
Experience with database internals and peformance tuning, specifically for PostgreSQL and MySQL databases
Working knowledge of Kubernetes.
Strong ability to communicate and deal directly with customers, whether in email, Slack, video conference, or in person.
What else will help you be successful
Knowledge of common application deployment platforms and frameworks. Eg Python, Go, Node, PHP
Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure)
Knowledge of monitoring, observability, and debugging tools
Contributions to open-source projects, especially in the database or infrastructure space

Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems to the global enterprise and technology markets.
Our platform, Ubuntu, is very widely used in breakthrough enterprise initiatives
such as public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation and IoT. Our customers include the world's leading public cloud and silicon providers, and industry leaders in many sectors. The company is a pioneer of global distributed collaboration, with 1200+ colleagues in 80+ countries and very few roles based in offices. Teams meet two to four times yearly in person, in interesting locations around the world, to align on strategy and execution.
The company is founder led, profitable and growing.
We are hiring an
Engineer Director, Devices Software Engineering
to drive the strategy and implementation of our next-generation Ubuntu hardware enablement quality. This critical function is part of our mission to transform Linux certification, in partnership with the engineering directors of Ubuntu Enablement and Ubuntu Certification. Our goal is to deliver the world's best long term OS stability commitment on PC, server and IoT hardware.
We believe that Engineering Directors should be outstanding engineers themselves. They should be very comfortable reviewing a patch or a software design spec. They are trusted engineers who understand the importance of a whole-team effort in creating great products, and who enjoy seeing colleagues develop. They should contribute code themselves to set the standard for coding, but know that the code they write is far less significant than their ability to shape the whole team’s direction, focus and delivery. We grow management skills, and train engineers who are interested in soft skills to be managers. Even though this is a director level position, managing managers, we expect Engineering Directors to be outstanding system software engineers with the confidence to lead by example across the full range of activities in their teams. You’ll need to know how to drive testing and benchmarking to improve the clarity in your teams around quality and performance. You’ll also need to be confident to set and defend high expectations of work ethic, consistency, focus and learning.
In this Engineering Director role, you will lead the strategy and the team responsible for quality coordination and integration testing of our software stacks with hardware. We are looking for a quality expert with the ability to establish quality processes from the ground up. The candidate must understand today's PC and ARM IoT hardware, and be excited about the new generation of RISC-V hardware that is on the horizon. They should understand the board and device product lifecycle and know the tools and techniques used to introduce new products. They will work with teams across the company to drive quality improvements through the entire development cycle. This challenging role demands a high degree of technical skill combined with management experience.
Today, most Linux certification is poor quality. Vendors run one set of tests and then declare that 'the hardware is certified'. But Linux is not a static platform. We make many more security fixes in the Linux world than people traditionally made in the proprietary OS world - all of these need to be tested on hardware which has been certified, even if that certification is 'old'. Also, Linux and open source evolve significantly every six months, and even more between major enterprise releases like the Ubuntu LTS versions. During the lifespan of an LTS, new kernel improvements will be available to users, and they want to be sure that their hardware will work. Today's Linux certification programs do not meet the needs of its users, and we want to change that.
Our intention is to deliver
continuous quality and certification
across the entire portfolio of certified hardware. Once we have enabled and certified a device, we intend to keep testing it to ensure that every single change we deliver to Ubuntu users globally is verified on all the hardware we know about. We also intend to
measure energy consumption
on a continuous process, as part of our commitment to
measure, manage and drive down the carbon footprint of Ubuntu
usage around the planet. We are building the world's largest and best-equipped Linux device certification facility in Taipei, which will enable this continuous testing. We are also structuring our renewed partnership and customer agreements to facilitate this process going forward.
We believe that open source is just starting to transform the tech sector and enterprise compute. Our goal is to make open source easier, more reliable and more secure for deployment and development. We strive to be the provider of ‘most software to most companies’. To deliver on that ambition, our engineers are carefully selected from the applicants across the globe. We select for brilliance and motivation to take open source to the next level. Our engineering directors and managers help teams achieve more than they thought they could, and feel proud of the result.
As an Engineering Director at Canonical your primary responsibility is to the teams you lead, to ensure that they measure outcomes, make process improvements, do valuable work, and find career satisfaction at Canonical. Technical leadership is a requirement, so that you’re able to challenge and grow your teams. Strong aptitude for planning, management and operations are necessary too. You will have the opportunity to influence our culture, facilitate technical delivery, and work with your teams on strategy and execution. You’ll select, develop, retain and lead teams of excellent software developers to design and implement software that runs on various CPU architectures, such as ARM, RISC-V, and x86. You will meet with stakeholders, prioritize requests, plan your roadmap and ensure the team can deliver their goals.
Location:
As an Engineering Director position, this requires a candidate who is confident to run a project which spans several teams and time zones, hiring and managing both engineering managers and staff engineers. The role is part of our global Canonical and Ubuntu engineering organisation. We prefer to appoint a candidate who will base themselves in our Taipei Minsheng office, alongside other enablement engineering leaders, and close to the stream of new hardware that goes into the certification lab.
Key responsibilities
Manage, mentor and grow the software engineering teams addressing hardware enablement quality assurance and testing
