Senior Engineering Manager, Data & AI
Lead the engineering team behind Foundry, Insights, Intel, and Voice: the agents, analytics, and data intelligence of the modern freight platform.
About the Role
Remote, United States. Some travel is required for team onsites, customer visits, and industry events. Relocation assistance is not provided.
The Senior Engineering Manager, Data & AI leads the engineering group behind Foundry, Insights, Intel, and Voice. You'll own the group's technical strategy, delivery, and quality, hire and develop its engineers, and stay hands-on by prototyping, writing evals, reading traces, and reviewing architecture in depth.
The team is about eight engineers today and growing. It also owns the shared foundation those products run on: a context graph that connects loads, trips, carriers, drivers, customers, documents, and conversations; event-sourced platform data streaming into the warehouse; and the evals, tracing, guardrails, and model routing every agent depends on.
Alvys facilitates more than $1 billion in funds every month across invoices, carrier payments, and driver settlements. Behind that volume is one of the richest operational datasets in freight. This team turns it into agents that do real work and intelligence customers can't get anywhere else.
Engineering leaders at Alvys are builders. Expect to spend about a third of your time building. You'll set the standard for how an AI-first team works: coding agents in the daily workflow, evals before scale, and production evidence over demos.
The platform runs on .NET (C#, and increasingly F#), TypeScript, and Python on Azure and AKS, with Cosmos DB, Postgres, Elasticsearch, Snowflake, dbt, and Fivetran underneath.
We're looking for someone who treats AI as a first-class material, both in what we build for customers and in how the engineering team works.
Industry Insight
Freight runs on phone calls, emails, PDFs, and tribal knowledge. The U.S. trucking industry is worth approximately $1 trillion today and is projected to grow by roughly 60% to nearly $1.5 trillion over the next decade.
Yet the work that moves that freight is still largely manual. Nearly 580,000 active U.S. motor carriers operate in a highly fragmented market; 91.5% run 10 or fewer trucks, and 99.3% run 100 or fewer. Few of these businesses will ever build a data team of their own. Every check call answered, rate confirmation read, and exception caught by software is time back for a small team running on thin margins.
Freight data is also structurally messy. A single load spans brokers, carriers, drivers, shippers, and documents, each with its own identifiers, and the truth lives across EDI messages, phone calls, and free text. Generic AI tooling doesn't model any of this. That's why we're building a context graph grounded in how freight actually moves.
Agents can now answer the phone, read documents, query operational data, and take actions inside a TMS. In freight, those actions move trucks and money. They must be correct, auditable, and safe.
About Alvys
Alvys is building the operating system for modern freight. Our AI-powered, cloud-native platform brings dispatch, driver mobile, safety and compliance, billing and settlements, native EDI, reporting, integrations, and automation into one product.
We were founded in 2020 by freight industry insiders who were tired of software built by people who had never moved a load. That combination of deep customer empathy and ambitious technology still defines us. We visit customers, learn how the work actually happens, prototype quickly, debate ideas openly, and turn the best ones into products people rely on.
More than 3,000 trucking and brokerage companies use Alvys today, including larger fleets with increasingly sophisticated operations. We've raised $77M to date, including a $40M Series B. That gives us real momentum and room to make bold bets, while remaining early enough that a great engineering leader can materially shape the product, team, and company.
We are building more than a modern interface for a traditional TMS. Foundry, our agent platform within Alvys, helps freight teams make decisions and complete work, and this team builds it. You'll work with curious, direct, low-ego people who solve hard problems, move quickly from prototype to production, and measure customer impact.
Our Principles
AI makes building cheap. It does not make judgment cheap.
The constraint has moved from writing code to deciding what to build and proving it is right. Agents belong in the middle of the pipeline. People remain accountable at both ends. These principles turn that into how we work every day.
Own the outcome
You own what you ship. "AI wrote it" is not an answer.
Judgment stays human. People decide what matters and whether the result is correct.
Verify independently
Generation and verification are separate. Tests, review, and approval run independently of the agent that did the work.
Autonomy is earned per workflow. Agents advance only on measured precision against human-verified outcomes. No number, no promotion.
Design for control
AI-first means security-first. Customer data stays on approved infrastructure under managed identity.
Cost is an engineering constraint. Every shared workflow has termination conditions and bounded fan-out.
Build durable systems
Knowledge is tool-agnostic. Reviewed intent lives once; vendor-specific machinery is generated from it.
Multiple vendors are a design assumption. Durable workflows don't couple to one model or harness.
Twice is a pattern. Automate repeated work and share it within 48 hours.
The Data & AI Portfolio
The Data & AI portfolio covers Foundry, our embedded automation and agent platform, including a unified agent chat that answers questions and takes actions; Insights, conversational analytics grounded in each customer's own operating data; Intel, proprietary data intelligence drawn from third-party, licensed, and proprietary data sources; and Voice, AI voice and chat agents for load status, driver check calls, and the follow-ups in between. It also includes the shared foundation: the context graph, the data platform that feeds it, and the evals, tracing, guardrails, and model routing behind every agent.
Why This Role
Few engineering leadership roles combine frontier AI work, a proprietary dataset, and an industry this underserved. This one does.
You build at the frontier, in production.
Context graphs, self-learning agents, voice agents, and agentic automation are still being figured out across the industry. Here you ship them to real customers, on live freight operations, not benchmarks.
You work with data no one else has.
More than 3,000 trucking and brokerage companies run on Alvys, and more than $1 billion in funds moves through the platform every month. Combined with third-party and licensed sources, that data is the raw material for intelligence no single fleet or brokerage could build alone.
Your work changes how an industry operates.
With 91.5% of carriers running 10 or fewer trucks, most of our customers will never hire a data team. The agents you build give a small business the leverage of a much larger one.
You own a portfolio, not a feature.
Four products share one platform. You set its architecture, choose its models and vendors, and decide where the team invests as it grows.
You shape the team from the start.
The group is about eight engineers today. You'll hire the next wave and set the standard for how an AI-first engineering team works at Alvys.
You stay close to the decisions.
You report to the Head of Engineering, work directly with customers and our Forward Deployed Engineering team, and have a direct line into company planning, backed by a $40M Series B.
What You'll Be Responsible For
Leading and Growing the Team
Manage, coach, and develop a team of about eight engineers, including senior engineers and tech leads, and grow it as the portfolio expands.
Hire senior and staff engineers, and keep the quality bar high as the team scales.
Run the team AI-first, with coding agents in the daily workflow and clear standards for how AI-written code is reviewed, tested, and shipped.
Owning Technical Strategy
Set technical direction for agents, data, and the context graph, and make the build, buy, and model calls with cost, quality, and speed in view.
Make tradeoffs across four products that share one platform, including what gets built, what gets cut, and where the team invests.
Building Agents That Learn
Own the agent development lifecycle from prototype to production to continuous improvement.
Build self-learning loops so agents improve from outcomes, user corrections, and transcripts, and make that improvement measurable.
Make evals a release gate. No agent ships without tests for quality, safety, latency, and cost.
Data and the Context Graph
Own the context graph that links loads, trips, carriers, drivers, customers, documents, and conversations, and the entity resolution that keeps it trustworthy.
Partner on the data platform that feeds it, including event streams, CDC into Snowflake, data quality, and lineage, so agents and analytics share one source of truth.
Capture decision traces (the inputs gathered, the rule applied, any exception, who approved it, and why) so precedent becomes searchable for agents and people, while rules stay explicit.
Combine third-party, licensed, and proprietary data sources into intelligence customers can act on, with the provenance, licensing terms, and tenant boundaries of each source respected.
Safety, Isolation, and Reliability
Design agents that change data with scoped permissions, human approvals, and audit trails, and defend against prompt injection and tool misuse.
Enforce tenant isolation and least privilege across every agent, tool, and data path.
Own reliability and unit economics. Track cost per task, per call, and per tenant, and keep margins healthy as usage grows.
Staying Hands-On
Spend about a third of your time building: prototype, write evals, read traces, and debug production.
Review your team's designs and code with real depth, and stay current on models and tools, separating what works in production from what demos well.
Cross-Functional Partnership
Work as a peer to product and design leadership on direction, architecture, sequencing, and delivery.
Work directly with customers and our Forward Deployed Engineering team, and turn repeated patterns into platform features.
The AI Fluency We Expect
We measure AI fluency by how you verify, not by how much you use AI. More autonomy is not always better. You match the level of autonomy to the risk of the work, and you hold yourself and the team to the same five competencies.
Delegation:
You decide whether to use AI at all, which task to hand off, and how much autonomy it gets.
Description:
You state goals, requirements, and limits clearly, from a single prompt up to project instructions, specs, and policy.
Discernment:
You check output against evidence: diffs, acceptance checks, evals, and production monitoring.
Diligence:
You own the effects, including data access, permissions, memory isolation, budgets, and kill switches.
Systems:
You know how models, context, tools, harnesses, and memory work, and where each one fails.
How You Work With Agents
Design multi-agent systems on paper before you build them. For each step, choose a rule, a small model, a frontier model, or a person, and measure cost per outcome, not cost per token.
Start from code-orchestrated workflows and add model-led autonomy only where the task needs exploration. Keep agent-to-agent handoffs few, and give each agent a contract: inputs, allowed tools, and output schema.
Put limits in code, not in prompts: hooks, sandboxed worktrees, and a stop condition, retry cap, and budget on every loop.
Separate the agent that writes from the agent that checks, and give the checker fresh context.
Work in an explore, plan, execute, verify, and compound rhythm, where every correction becomes a rule, skill, hook, or test.
Move fluently across Claude Code, Codex, and Cursor, and choose an editor-first or agent-first surface based on who should hold the controls for the next step.
Where You Take the Team
Bring every engineer to running goal-based loops, where specs and checks are written first, never weakened to pass, and run by the agent itself.
Move the team from steering every turn to designing the system that steers the agent: its context, its harness, and its loop.
Build toward agents that run continuously in hosted sandboxes, each with its own least-privilege identity, a named owner, a budget, and a tested kill switch, with risk-scaled human review on financial actions, auth, settlements, and customer data.
Close the improvement loop. Capture traces, run error analysis on real failures every week, encode the fixes, and gate every change to rules, memory, or evals behind evals and a human approver. Self-improving never means self-approving.
Minimum Qualifications
8+ years building software, including 3+ years managing engineers.
You've grown senior engineers and tech leads and remain a hands-on builder who can prototype, debug production, and review code credibly.
Production LLM systems.
You've shipped LLM-powered products to real users, not demos, and can explain what broke, what you measured, and what you changed.
Agentic engineering in your own work.
You build with coding agents every day and can show the multi-agent workflows, contracts, hooks, and loops you put into production, and the checks that kept them honest.
Depth in agent systems.
You've built with tool use, function calling, MCP, orchestration, memory, and retrieval, and you understand where agents fail.
Evaluation discipline.
You've built eval systems that combine offline suites, online metrics, human review, and transcript analysis, and used them to gate releases.
Strong data engineering judgment.
You've worked with event streams, CDC, cloud warehouses, dbt, and data quality, and you know how the shape of the data limits what models can do.
Distributed systems in production.
You've designed and operated production services with real reliability requirements.
Multi-tenant security.
You've secured multi-tenant SaaS and isolated customer data, and you treat agent permissions as a security boundary.
Language fluency.
You write Python or TypeScript fluently and are comfortable reading C#, F#, and .NET. Experience with F# or another functional language is a plus.
Startup-stage fit.
You've operated at Series B/C velocity amid ambiguity, thin support, competing priorities, and a bias toward shipping and learning.
Clear technical communication.
You can explain a tradeoff to an engineer, a customer, and an executive.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge graphs, context graphs, entity resolution, or GraphRAG in production.
Real-time voice agents, including telephony, speech-to-text, text-to-speech, turn-taking, and latency budgets.
Fine-tuning, reinforcement learning from feedback, or prompt optimization against eval sets.
Embedded automation or workflow platforms such as Activepieces, n8n, or Temporal.
SRE experience, or a record of running systems other teams depend on.
Logistics or freight experience, or another vertical where data is deeply entangled with operations.
Founder or early-stage engineering leadership experience.
A history of hiring, growing, and retaining excellent engineers.
Built by people who've moved freight. Come build the intelligence layer with us.

About Anthropic
Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. We want AI to be safe and beneficial for our users and for society as a whole. Our team is a quickly growing group of committed researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders working together to build beneficial AI systems.
About the role
As the Content Strategy Lead for Executive Programs, you will own what Anthropic brings to the table when we sit down with senior leaders from our most strategic customers. That covers Executive Briefings, Customer Advisory Boards, Executive Councils, and the other small-room gatherings where a C-level audience meets with our leaders, product teams, and researchers. You will set the content strategy across these programs, build the library of modules and the bench of speakers, and lead the team that keeps our content fresh as our models and products evolve.
This role works cross-functionally with Product & Solutions Marketing, who owns positioning and messaging across industries and products, and customer programs which owns each program's operations, intake, and customer experience. You own the layer in between: turning Anthropic's product, research, and policy story into sessions built for an executive audience, deciding who is best placed to deliver them, and designing interactive formats and demos that work for customers building on the frontier.
The right candidate has a product marketing or narrative background, has built content for C-level customer audiences at an enterprise technology company, and has managed a team.
Key responsibilities
Set and execute the content strategy across Executive Briefings, Customer Advisory Boards, Executive Councils, and other gatherings of strategic customers: the themes for the year, the narrative that connects them, and how content differs by program, audience, and purpose.
Build and maintain an evergreen library of content modules that program leads and account teams can assemble into an agenda without starting from scratch. Modules span product and roadmap, research, safety and policy, industry and use-case sessions, demos, and discussion guides.
Keep the library current. Set a refresh cadence tied to model and product launches, retire what is stale, maintain a pipeline of net-new content modules, and make sure nothing in front of a customer executive is out of date.
Identify, recruit, develop and certify speakers from Anthropic's executive, product, research, and go-to-market teams. Maintain the cross-program roster, shape each speaker's session, and prepare them for the room.
Design the experience, not only the presentation. Choose the format that fits the audience and the goal, whether that is a working session, a live demo, a conversation with a researcher, or a peer discussion among customers.
Partner with program leads on agendas for the highest-priority engagements, tailoring modules to the customer's objectives. Set the standards and templates that let every other engagement meet the same bar.
Work with Product & Solutions Marketing, Product, and Research so that executive-level content is ready when a launch happens, not weeks after.
Capture what customers say in these rooms, including themes, objections, and requests. Route it to Product, Research, Marketing, and go-to-market leadership, and use it to improve the content.
Measure what works, including session feedback, module usage, and speaker performance, and work with program leads to connect content to program outcomes.
Hire, manage, and develop the team responsible for executive program content, and set its quality bar.
Use Claude to scale the work: build workflows that tailor modules to a customer's industry and priorities so a customized session does not require a rebuild.
Minimum qualifications
Built content for C-level customer audiences in executive briefings, advisory boards, executive councils, or similar programs.
Built a content system that other people rely on, such as a module library, a session catalog, or a speaker program, and kept it current through frequent product change.
The technical fluency to work directly with researchers and engineers, understand what they have built, and explain it accurately to a business executive.
Experience coaching senior executives and technical experts as speakers, including giving direct feedback on their material.
Judgment about format: you know when a room needs a presentation, a demo, or a facilitated discussion, and you can design each one.
Experience managing people, including hiring and developing a team.
A high bar for writing. You can draft an executive session narrative yourself and improve one written by someone else.
Genuine interest in AI and in helping the world's largest enterprises adopt it responsibly.
Preferred qualifications
12+ years in product marketing, executive content, or executive customer programs at a B2B technology company. You have owned positioning and messaging for a technical product and know how to adapt it for different audiences.
Experience at a company where the product changes quickly and content has a short shelf life.
Hands-on experience using AI tools to produce or tailor content.
Experience facilitating executive discussions, not only preparing others to lead them.
Worked with customers in regulated industries such as financial services, healthcare, or the public sector.
The annual compensation range for this role is listed below.
For sales roles, the range provided is the role’s On Target Earnings ("OTE") range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role.
Annual Salary:
$320,000
—
$400,000 USD
Logistics
Minimum education:
Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience
Required field of study:
A field relevant to the role as demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience
Minimum years of experience:
Years of experience required will correlate with the internal job level requirements for the position
Location-based hybrid policy:
Currently, we expect all staff to be in one of our offices at least 25% of the time. However, some roles may require more time in our offices.
Visa sponsorship:
We do sponsor visas! However, we aren't able to successfully sponsor visas for every role and every candidate. But if we make you an offer, we will make every reasonable effort to get you a visa, and we retain an immigration lawyer to help with this.
We encourage you to apply even if you do not believe you meet every single qualification.
Not all strong candidates will meet every single qualification as listed. Research shows that people who identify as being from underrepresented groups are more prone to experiencing imposter syndrome and doubting the strength of their candidacy, so we urge you not to exclude yourself prematurely and to submit an application if you're interested in this work. We think AI systems like the ones we're building have enormous social and ethical implications. We think this makes representation even more important, and we strive to include a range of diverse perspectives on our team.
Your safety matters to us.

How we're different
We believe that the highest-impact AI research will be big science. At Anthropic we work as a single cohesive team on just a few large-scale research efforts. And we value impact — advancing our long-term goals of steerable, trustworthy AI — rather than work on smaller and more specific puzzles. We view AI research as an empirical science, which has as much in common with physics and biology as with traditional efforts in computer science. We're an extremely collaborative group, and we host frequent research discussions to ensure that we are pursuing the highest-impact work at any given time. As such, we greatly value communication skills.
The easiest way to understand our research directions is to read our recent research. This research continues many of the directions our team worked on prior to Anthropic, including: GPT-3, Circuit-Based Interpretability, Multimodal Neurons, Scaling Laws, AI & Compute, Concrete Problems in AI Safety, and Learning from Human Preferences.
Come work with us!
Anthropic is a public benefit corporation headquartered in San Francisco. We offer competitive compensation and benefits, optional equity donation matching, generous vacation and parental leave, flexible working hours, and a lovely office space in which to collaborate with colleagues.

📆 APPLICATION DEADLINE: MONDAY SEPT 28TH, 11:59PM EST
ABOUT THE TEAM
The Options Clearing team sits within Brokerage Operations, the group responsible for how Wealthsimple executes on behalf of clients across billions of dollars a day. We own the full options life cycle — reconciliations, settlements, exercises, assignments and expirations — and make sure every position we hold matches what it should. It's precise, deadline-driven work, and we take it seriously because clients are trusting us with their money.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Options Clearing, you'll own the daily execution of reconciliations, settlements, and expirations across our options book. This work protects client assets directly, so accuracy isn't optional — you're the person who catches a break in the data before it becomes a client-facing problem, and who improves the processes that keep pace as the business grows.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Own daily reconciliation, settlement, and expiration processing across the options book, catching and resolving breaks before they reach clients
- Act as the team's subject matter expert on OCC and CDCC clearing (including SOLA), covering exercises, assignments, and institutional options transfers
- Partner with the Trade Desk, engineering, and other operations teams to resolve trade and position discrepancies and reduce risk
- Use data — pivot tables, lookups, and SQL — to find the cause of inefficiencies and fix them
- Build and improve the tools and workflows that let the team scale as options volume grows
- Develop processes to increase the efficiency of our back-office operations.
SKILLS YOU BRING:
- 2+ years handling back-office reconciliations, settlements, or options clearing (OCC/CDCC) at a broker-dealer or registered investment dealer
- Comfortable with large data sets — you can take a few thousand rows of position data, find the breaks, and explain what caused them
- Working knowledge of SQL, or ready to learn it fast — you'll be querying data daily
- Available to support early and late hours on a rotating basis around market events and settlement cycles
- A clear communicator who can work easily with trading, product, and operations teams
NICE TO HAVE
- Progress toward or completion of CSC, DFOL, or similar industry courses
- Familiarity with CDS or DTCC settlement
- Familiarity with Claude AI or Claude Code
WHO YOU ARE
- Naturally curious — when something looks off, you want to know why
- Someone who builds trust with the people around you by being reliable and clear
- Are organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to work accurately against tight, non-negotiable deadlines.
- Willing to escalate early when something needs it, rather than sitting on it
- Genuinely interested in how markets and technology intersect

About Anthropic
Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. We want AI to be safe and beneficial for our users and for society as a whole. Our team is a quickly growing group of committed researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders working together to build beneficial AI systems.
About the role
Training and serving frontier AI models requires compute infrastructure at a scale and density that pushes past what conventional data center designs were built to handle. Anthropic's Data Center Infrastructure team is responsible for delivering that physical infrastructure — partnering with build partners, equipment manufacturers, and utilities to stand up facilities that can reliably power some of the largest accelerator clusters in the industry.
As a Data Center Electrical Engineer – Design, you'll own the electrical architecture of our facilities from the utility service entrance through to the rack — substation interface, medium- and high-voltage distribution, on-site generation and storage integration, UPS, switchgear, busway, and rack power. You'll develop and maintain the basis of design, reference architectures, and technical specifications that our build partners and A/E firms design against, and you'll be the point of technical authority when their drawings and calculations come back for review. You'll run the engineering studies — short-circuit, protection coordination, arc flash, load flow, and power quality — and you'll keep the architecture ahead of rapidly increasing rack densities and the unique load characteristics of large-scale ML training.
A central part of this role is speed-to-capacity through prefabrication: you'll shape Anthropic's offsite-manufactured electrical strategy — modular skids, e-houses, and prefabricated power assemblies — and drive its standardization across sites. You'll work closely with colleagues across the infrastructure team, with our hardware and compute teams to translate accelerator requirements into electrical design criteria, and with supply chain to qualify and diversify regional equipment vendors. Expect roughly 10–25% travel for design reviews, partner and vendor meetings, factory witness testing, and site visits to support commissioning and startup.
Responsibilities
Electrical design & engineering
Lead the electrical design of critical data center infrastructure across the US portfolio, including the utility interface and substation, site medium- and high-voltage distribution, generators, UPS, switchgear, transformers, busway, and grounding
Develop and maintain Anthropic's electrical basis of design, reference architectures, and technical specifications for critical power distribution — covering switchgear, UPS systems, PDUs, busway, and rack power delivery — producing designs that meet our reliability and maintainability requirements while staying within budgetary targets
Perform and validate engineering studies — including short-circuit, protection coordination, arc flash, load flow, and power quality analysis — and use the findings to steer topology, redundancy, equipment-selection, and protection-setting decisions
Design and plan data center hall power distribution layouts for newly allocated spaces in coordination with the telecom, mechanical and cooling design
Prefabrication & modular delivery
Drive Anthropic's prefabricated and modular electrical strategy — developing modular skids, e-houses, and prefabricated power assemblies, and partnering with external engineering and manufacturing teams on a productization roadmap that accelerates deployment and reduces onsite labor
Design for offsite manufacture and onsite assembly: define the interfaces between prefabricated components and site-built work, and the electrical interfaces and switchover points for temporary-to-permanent power sequencing
Drive standardization of modular electrical designs across sites to compress deployment timelines while preserving flexibility for site-specific constraints and evolving hardware generations
Partner, vendor & utility coordination
Work with regional vendors and manufacturers to specify and qualify major electrical equipment, and partner with supply chain to build a diversified vendor base that mitigates lead-time and single-source risk
Work with utilities and interconnection/transmission operators (e.g., ISOs/RTOs) to define site utility service and interconnection requirements, and with local authorities having jurisdiction to ensure designs comply with the National Electrical Code (NFPA 70/NEC), NFPA, IEEE, UL/ANSI, and local requirements
Work with Anthropic's hardware and compute teams to translate accelerator power, density, and power-quality requirements into electrical design criteria, and keep the reference architecture aligned with upcoming hardware generations
Present findings and design positions to internal stakeholders, build partners, and operations teams through clear reports and presentations, and defend them under challenge
Design review & quality
Review and approve electrical design packages, calculations, submittals, and shop drawings from build partners and MEP consultants; track clarifications, deviations, and exceptions against the basis of design, and hold the line on capacity, reliability, maintainability, and safety requirements
Perform technical due diligence and design reviews on data center developer and partner projects — evaluating their electrical single-lines, equipment selections, studies, and specifications against Anthropic's reliability, maintainability, and capacity requirements
Define project electrical scope and serve as the design authority on RFIs and field changes that affect design intent during procurement and construction
Support factory acceptance testing, commissioning, and startup — reviewing test procedures and results against design intent, participating on site for key milestones, and closing as-built changes back into the reference design
Manage concurrent projects across multiple geographies
Continuously improve Anthropic's internal electrical design standards, tooling, and delivery practices, and act as a technical leader within the engineering group and across the internal and external teams that support our data centers
You may be a good fit if you
Have 10+ years of electrical engineering experience in mission-critical facilities, with substantial time spent on data center or other high-availability electrical distribution design — from concept through construction documents and into commissioning support
Have deep familiarity with US electrical codes and standards — including the National Electrical Code (NFPA 70/NEC), NFPA 70E, IEEE standards (e.g., 1584 for arc flash), and UL/ANSI equipment standards (e.g., UL 891, UL 1558) — and with utility interconnection processes
Have hands-on experience producing and reviewing electrical construction documents, single-line diagrams, and equipment specifications, and can interpret data center floor plans and technical layouts with confidence
Have strong knowledge of power distribution and cooling infrastructure in high-availability data center environments
Are fluent in power systems analysis and comfortable running or critically reviewing studies in tools such as SKM, ETAP, or EasyPower
Understand critical power topologies (2N, N+1, distributed redundant, block redundant) and can articulate the trade-offs between them for different reliability and cost targets
Have working knowledge of HV/MV substations, on-site generation, and energy storage integration, and how each shapes the overall electrical architecture
Have hands-on experience with prefabricated and modular data center electrical infrastructure — design for offsite manufacture, modular skids/e-houses, and the interfaces between prefabricated components and onsite assembly
Have worked directly with electrical equipment manufacturers, A/E consultants, and contractors, and can evaluate products and designs on technical merit, not just datasheet claims
Hold a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field, or have equivalent practical experience; Professional Engineer (PE) licensure is valued but not required
Communicate clearly with both technical peers and non-specialist stakeholders, and are comfortable defending a design position under scrutiny from partners and internal reviewers
Strong candidates may also have
Experience owning the electrical basis of design or reference architecture for a hyperscale or large colocation program, and driving its adoption across multiple sites or by external build partners
A track record building modular prefabricated products in the electrical or mechanical scope of a data center, and driving designs toward offsite manufacturing
Background in medium-/high-voltage distribution, on-site generation, or battery energy storage system (BESS) integration, and how those shape the building-side electrical design
Exposure to liquid-cooled infrastructure and its implications for electrical room layout and load distribution
Prior work at a hyperscaler, colocation provider, or MEP consultancy serving large data center clients
Direct project experience delivering data centers in multiple US markets (e.g., Virginia, Texas, Arizona, Ohio, Oregon)

About Niantic Spatial
AI has learned from almost everything online, but it still struggles with the physical world, where 99.5% of economic activity happens. It doesn’t know where things are, how spaces fit together, or what changes over time.
That’s one of the biggest unsolved problems in AI, and it’s the one we’re solving at Niantic Spatial. We build spatial AI models and services so people and machines can reason, learn and act safely in the physical world. We turn camera imagery, video, sensor data and archives into accurate, AI-readable representations of real places that robots can train in and machines can use to know exactly where they are.
In physical AI, mistakes have real consequences. That’s why we build AI grounded in measured reality, not guesswork, so the people and machines relying on it can trust it to get things right.
Our team built some of the world’s most widely used maps. Now we’re building something bigger: a living, measured record of the real world that machines can query, learn from and use to understand how places change over time. If you want to help AI understand the world we actually live in, come build with us.
About the Role
You’ll join a small infrastructure team with broad, shared ownership — the engineers who keep Niantic Spatial running. The team covers the cloud platform, the developer tooling every engineer depends on, and the edge services our customers’ requests pass through. You’ll work across SRE, infrastructure, and developer platform alongside teammates who know the stack well, and you’ll grow into owning parts of it yourself. Because every engineer here builds on what this team provides, your work will also shape how the whole engineering org builds, ships, and operates.
What You'll Do
- Cloud and SRE: Build and maintain cloud infrastructure as code, and help improve reliability through monitoring, alerting, and service-level objectives.
- Developer Platform: Help run our source control, CI/CD pipelines, and build infrastructure so engineers can ship quickly and safely.
- Production Operations: Share on-call, take part in incident response and follow-up, and automate away repetitive operational work.
- Edge and Delivery: Help run the edge API gateway, CDN, and authentication and authorization systems with the rest of the team.
- Compute and GPU Management: Help provision and monitor compute and GPU capacity across teams.
- AI-Assisted Operations: Use AI tools to help build, automate, and maintain our infrastructure, and help shape how the team uses them.
What You'll Bring
- Years of Experience: 3+ years in infrastructure, SRE, DevOps, or platform engineering.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Infrastructure as Code: Experience managing infrastructure as code with tools such as Terraform, Pulumi, or similar.
- Cloud: Hands-on experience with GCP, AWS, or another major cloud provider in production.
- CI/CD: Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines in GitLab, GitHub Actions, or similar.
- Containers: Production experience with containers and container orchestration, such as Kubernetes.
- Core Technical Skills: Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Python, Go, TypeScript, or C++, plus shell scripting and Linux systems.
- AI in Your Workflow: Comfort using AI-assisted tools in your engineering work, or a strong interest in building that habit. We’ll help you ramp up on how we use AI here.
Nice to Have
- Familiarity with API gateways, load balancers, or CDNs.
- Familiarity with modern authentication and authorization, such as OAuth 2.0, OIDC, or cloud IAM.
- Experience with GPU workloads or ML infrastructure.
- Experience with message queuing systems.
Location & Work Model
This role is based in our San Francisco or Sunnyvale, CA office, or in Bellevue, WA. We work in a high-collaboration environment and ask team members to be on-site a minimum of 3 days per week.
Compensation & Benefits
The base salary range for this position is $171,000 - $230,000 for Bay Area candidates and $162,500 - $218,500 for Seattle/Bellevue candidates. Actual salary is based on assessed skills, experience, and location. This role is also eligible for equity, bonus, and benefits. Your recruiter can answer questions about total compensation during the hiring process.
Inclusive Application
We know the strongest candidates don't always tick every box. If you're excited about this role and believe you could do it well, we encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't match every qualification listed — you may be exactly who we're looking for.
Equal Opportunity
Niantic Spatial is an equal opportunity employer.
At the scale we build, our campuses are typically served by dedicated high-voltage substations and a medium-voltage distribution network that may also integrate on-site generation and battery energy storage — and the protection, control, and automation layer is what keeps all of it selective, coordinated, and observable.
As a Data Center Substation, Protection & Automation Engineer, you'll own the protection and automation architecture across Anthropic's US portfolio — from the utility point of interconnection (POI) through the HV/MV substation, the MV distribution loop, and down into LV switchgear. You'll develop and maintain our protection philosophy and reference relay settings, run and review the short-circuit, coordination, and arc-flash studies that underpin them, design the substation automation and SCADA architecture, and define how relays and meters integrate into the electrical power monitoring system (EPMS) — giving operators real-time visibility and sequence-of-events data when something trips. You'll also be our technical lead on the protection side of utility interconnection — working relay settings, transfer-trip, and ride-through requirements with transmission owners and ISOs/RTOs.
Protection engineering and substation automation are the core of this role; substation physical design is a strong plus but not a prerequisite — we'd like to hear from protection and P&C engineers who have spent their careers on relays, schemes, and studies even if they haven't owned a substation general arrangement. You'll work closely with colleagues across the infrastructure team, our build partners' A/E firms, relay and switchgear vendors, and utility protection groups. Expect roughly 20–35% travel for witnessing factory acceptance and relay testing, and supporting site energization and commissioning.
Responsibilities
Protection engineering
Own Anthropic's protection philosophy and basis of design across the electrical system — HV substation, MV distribution, generator and energy-storage interties, and LV switchgear — and maintain the reference relay settings and protection one-line templates our build partners design against
Specify protective relays and develop relay settings for transformer, feeder, bus, generator, motor, and arc-flash protection applications, working across major platforms (e.g., SEL, GE Multilin, ABB, Siemens, Schneider)
Perform and critically review short-circuit, protective-device coordination, and arc-flash studies; use findings to steer equipment selection, settings, and incident-energy mitigation
Implement automatic transfer, load-shed, and restoration schemes in protection and automation logic, and make sure they stay secure and coordinated under every credible contingency
Review protection and control design packages, relay settings calculations, and coordination studies from build partners and A/E firms against our basis of design, and drive closure on deviations and exceptions
Substation automation & SCADA
Design the substation automation architecture for each site — IEC 61850 station and process bus, GOOSE messaging, RTUs/gateways, local HMI, sequence-of-events recording, and time synchronization — and drive standardization of that architecture across the portfolio
Integrate protective relays, meters, and switchgear controls into the electrical power monitoring system (EPMS) and substation SCADA; define electrical points lists and event/waveform capture, applying the site alarm and HMI standards
Help define the network topology, redundancy, and cybersecurity boundaries between substation automation, EPMS, and the facility BMS/DCIM layer, and how protection events surface to operations
Evaluate and qualify relay, RTU, gateway, and EPMS platforms on technical merit, and work with supply chain to build a diversified vendor base that mitigates lead-time and single-source risk
Substation design & utility interface
Review HV/MV substation design packages from build partners — single-line and three-line diagrams, bus configuration, general arrangement, equipment specifications, grounding-grid design, and control-building layout — and confirm the protection and control design is buildable and maintainable
Work with local utilities, transmission owners, and ISOs/RTOs on interconnection protection requirements — relay settings submittals, transfer-trip and communications-assisted schemes, POI study review, and protection settings that satisfy ride-through and grid-code requirements
Review the protection and control interface for on-site generation and battery energy storage interconnections, including anti-islanding, synchronizing, and intertie protection
Support NERC PRC compliance for applicable facilities — settings documentation, misoperation analysis, and periodic maintenance and testing basis
Testing, commissioning & standards
Develop relay test plans and factory and site acceptance test procedures for protection and automation systems, and witness FAT, relay secondary-injection testing, GOOSE messaging and end-to-end scheme testing, and integrated systems testing
Review the protection and control steps of energization and switching methods of procedure (MOPs), support first-energization of substations and MV distribution, and resolve protection and control issues found in the field
Lead root-cause analysis of protection operations and misoperations using relay event records, sequence-of-events data, and disturbance records, and feed findings back into settings and standards
Build and continuously improve Anthropic's internal protection and automation standards — settings templates, scheme logic libraries, test procedures, and commissioning checklists — so each new site starts from a proven baseline
You may be a good fit if you
Have 10+ years of experience in power system protection engineering, substation automation, or substation design for utility, heavy-industrial, or mission-critical facilities
Hold a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field, or have equivalent practical experience; Professional Engineer (PE) licensure is valued but not required

Experience owning NERC PRC compliance evidence for a generation or transmission asset — settings basis documentation, misoperation reporting, and PRC-005 maintenance programs
Proficiency with vendor relay engineering tools such as SEL AcSELerator, GE EnerVista, ABB PCM600, or Siemens DIGSI, and with IEC 61850 system configuration tools
Designed IEC 61850 station- or process-bus systems with GOOSE-based protection or interlocking schemes
Prior work at a utility, relay or switchgear manufacturer, protection-engineering consultancy, or hyperscaler serving large-load interconnections

Provectus is an AWS Premier Partner and an Anthropic Strategic Partner, working at the frontier of applied AI. We help enterprises turn Claude, agentic systems, and their own data into measurable business outcomes — through bespoke applications, managed services, and advisory engagements. With offices in North America, LATAM, and EMEA, we partner with clients worldwide.
Our work centers on two verticals — Financial Services & Insurance and Healthcare & Life Sciences — where we deploy five pre-built AI Blueprints: Submission Flow, Portfolio Lens, Asset Flow, Revenue Flow, and Evidence Lens. Each Blueprint rebuilds a critical business process front to back, shipped from working code and tuned to a client's specific book, regulators, and operating posture.
Our team holds 100+ AWS certifications, is Claude Code certified, and co-delivers Anthropic's Agentic SDLC program, Cowork Activation, and AI Blueprint engagements.
Where this role sits
You will work in a small, senior pod alongside an FDE and an FDX,
Forward Deployed Executives (FDX) own the commercial relationship and the business outcome. Works alongside the client's leadership or C-suite level to move the client's KPIs.
Forward Deployed Engineers (FDE) embed with a client, map the client workflow, identify the business problem underneath it, design and build a working AI solution, present to the client, and transfer the knowledge to the client's team. Owns technical direction of the whole solution.
Senior AI Engineer. When an FDE comes back from the client with the business problem, you will help turn that into an agentic system that runs in production and will be responsible for evaluation, observability, and guardrails. You'll have real ownership of components and of the technical decisions inside them.
Requirements:
Mindset
Proactive and self-directed; you push for clarity rather than waiting for a ticket
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
Comfort with ambiguity and ownership.
B2+ English, comfortable collaborating across distributed, multicultural teams.
Technical depth
5+ years in software or ML engineering, with production systems you were accountable for.
Solid AI/ML foundations. You understand what the models do well enough to reason about failure modes.
Shipped to production LLM applications and agentic workflows — not demos, not POCs, not notebooks.
Agentic orchestration: multi-step workflows, graph-based orchestration, tool use, state management, and recovery from partial failure
Experience with LLM APIs (Anthropic, AWS Bedrock, or OpenAI) and agent frameworks.
Experience building and optimizing RAG systems in production.
Strong engineering fundamentals. Full-stack mindset, comfortable across AI, backend development, and cloud infrastructure. Python and/or TypeScript proficiency; depth matters more than stack. Dropped into an unfamiliar codebase, you're productive.
Hands-on AWS in production: Bedrock, Bedrock AgentCore, Lambda, ECS, S3, SQS, ECR, or similar. GCP or Azure is a plus.
Cloud-native delivery: containers, ECS or Kubernetes, IaC, and CI/CD applied to AI pipelines.
You evaluate. You have built or owned an eval suite for a non-deterministic system, and you can explain what you measured, how you produced ground truth, and what gated a release.
Model and agent monitoring, drift detection.
Cost and latency discipline: model tiering, caching, and the ability to say what a workload costs to run before it runs.
Hands-on production experience with the Claude ecosystem — Claude Code, CLAUDE.md, hooks, skills files. Spec-driven development — writing the intent, constraints, and acceptance criteria before you let an agent build — is a strong plus.
MCP: you can say why an agent would prefer it to a REST integration. Having authored a server is a plus.
Nice to Have:
Experience in one of the industries: financial services, insurance, healthcare.
Consulting, professional services, or other embedded customer-facing delivery.
AWS and Claude Code Certifications
A2A: you can explain agent-to-agent interoperability
CI/CD pipeline experience (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI)
Practical experience with one or more use cases from the following: NLP, LLMs, and Recommendation engines.
Experience in an additional language (Go, TypeScript, or Rust).
Experience with Apache Spark, Apache Airflow, Kafkа
Responsibilities:
Work in a pair with an FDE and an FDX.
Build and ship production GenAI systems into the customer’s environment (cloud-native data, LLM-based, and agentic AI solutions).
Build and optimize RAG systems for production use cases
Build the evaluation harness before you build the feature.
Write production code across the stack — AI, backend services, data pipelines. We choose tools to fit the customer.
Integrate AI components into backend services and RESTful APIs
Take systems to production on AWS (GCP or Azure where the customer requires it): containerised, CI/CD. Implement LLMOps and AgentOps practices: agent tracing, prompt and version management, cost and latency monitoring, regression testing, drift detection
Start from the blueprint, contribute to enablement and handover: clear documentation, runbooks, and pairing with the client engineers who will inherit the system. Feed reusable components and lessons back into the Provectus Blueprints
Participate in technical discussions and architectural decisions
Conduct model evaluation, improve failure modes you find, optimize model performance, efficiency, and reliability
Mentor junior and mid-level AI engineers, conduct code reviews and share knowledge across the team through documentation, presentations, and workshops.
What We Offer:
The chance to shape how leading enterprises across LATAM, Europe, and North America adopt AI, from strategy through first deployment
A forward-deployed model working in small, senior teams alongside FDE and FDX
A growing AI delivery practice where you help build the tooling and frameworks, not just use them

The loads involved are large enough — and arrive fast enough — that utility supply alone often can't meet the need on the timeline required, and the step-load behavior of large accelerator clusters creates power-quality and ride-through demands that conventional backup-generation designs weren't built for. Anthropic's Data Center Infrastructure team is responsible for solving that problem: delivering facilities that can be energized early, ride through grid disturbances, and present a well-behaved load at the point of interconnection (POI).
As a Data Center Power Generation & Microgrids Engineer, you'll own the behind-the-meter generation and storage architecture for Anthropic's data center portfolio. That means the on-site generation fleet — reciprocating engine gensets, gas turbines, fuel cells — and the battery energy storage systems that buffer load steps and provide ride-through. It means the microgrid layer that ties them together: islanding and resynchronization, black-start, load-shedding, and generation dispatch. And it means the grid side: interconnection studies and agreements, IEEE 1547/2800 compliance, and power quality at the point of interconnection. You'll also own our temporary- and bridging-generation strategies — the plans that let a site energize and start serving load before permanent utility service is available, and transition cleanly once it is.
This is a deeply cross-functional role. You'll work closely with colleagues across the infrastructure team on where and how generation and storage tie into the site electrical distribution, controls, and SCADA, and with our hardware and compute teams to understand the load characteristics you're designing against. You'll be Anthropic's technical counterpart to on-site generation providers, BESS integrators, utilities, and ISOs/RTOs. Expect roughly 20–35% travel for design reviews, factory witness testing, and site startup.
Responsibilities
On-site generation engineering
Own Anthropic's behind-the-meter generation architecture across the portfolio — prime-mover selection and sizing (reciprocating engines, gas turbines, fuel cells), paralleling topology, redundancy, fuel systems, and emissions controls — and maintain the generation basis of design and technical specifications that build partners and generation providers design against
Set the day-one vs. day-N plant sizing and expansion strategy — what the plant needs on day one so it can be expanded or augmented later, and how to add units, storage, or a grid tie to a system already running
Characterize the data center load for external generation partners — step changes, ramps, oscillation, fault behavior, and non-IT load — so providers can size and tune their plant against the real duty
Model generation response against the load profile of large-scale ML training — step-load acceptance, block loading, transient frequency and voltage response, load rejection — and set the acceptance criteria (e.g., per ISO 8528-5) that generation packages are tested against
Develop temporary- and bridging-generation strategies that deliver early site energization ahead of permanent utility service, including the sequencing, protection, and controls changes needed to transition from temporary to permanent power without stranding equipment or capacity
Ensure generation designs meet NFPA 37, NFPA 110 where the plant provides emergency or legally required standby power, fuel-gas and fuel-storage codes (e.g., NFPA 54, NFPA 30), and applicable emissions requirements, and coordinate with environmental and permitting counterparts on the technical inputs to air permits
Energy storage & microgrid architecture
Size and specify battery energy storage systems for ride-through, step-load buffering, and power-quality support — including cell chemistry and enclosure selection, inverter selection (grid-forming vs. grid-following), UL 9540 listing, UL 9540A large-scale fire test data, and NFPA 855 installation requirements — and own the thermal and fire-protection interfaces
Define the site microgrid topology and operating modes — grid-parallel, islanded, and black-start — and the transition logic between them, including load-shedding schemes, resynchronization criteria, and the conditions under which the site separates from and reconnects to the utility
Specify the functional requirements for the microgrid controller — generation dispatch, set-point coordination across rotating and inverter-based sources, mode management — and drive its implementation, testing, and integration into site SCADA and the electrical power monitoring system (EPMS)
Help define the protection and control requirements for generation and storage sources so that interconnection protection, anti-islanding, and source-transfer schemes are consistent from the generator terminals through the point of interconnection
Grid interconnection & power quality
Lead the technical side of utility interconnection for sites with on-site generation or storage — interconnection applications, studies, and agreements, ISO/RTO processes, IEEE 1547/2800 compliance, and interconnection protection
Own power quality at the point of interconnection — flicker per IEEE 1453, harmonics per IEEE 519, voltage regulation, reactive-power and power-factor requirements — and design the generation, storage, and filtering mitigations needed to keep the site within its interconnection limits under real training-load behavior
Run or critically review the power-system studies that support interconnection and microgrid design — load flow, short-circuit contribution from rotating and inverter-based sources, transient stability, motor-starting and step-load studies, and electromagnetic-transient studies where inverter controls matter
Vendor diligence & delivery
Lead technical due diligence on on-site generation providers, BESS integrators, and microgrid-controller vendors — evaluating equipment and controls on engineering merit, stress-testing performance and availability guarantees, and reviewing proposed architectures against Anthropic's basis of design
Define the technical performance terms in energy-services agreements with on-site generation providers — availability, power quality, ramp, and ride-through, each with a definition, meter, test protocol, and acceptance criteria — working with energy commercial and legal counterparts
Review and disposition design packages, submittals, shop drawings, and deviation requests from generation providers and their EPCs, and hold partners to Anthropic's reliability and maintainability requirements
Support commissioning of generation, storage, and microgrid systems — witnessing factory and site acceptance tests, defining and observing integrated systems tests (islanding, resynchronization, black-start, load-step), and resolving field issues against design intent
Manage concurrent generation and microgrid scopes across multiple sites, and contribute to the continuous improvement of Anthropic's generation and interconnection design standards as the portfolio and the technology both evolve
You may be a good fit if you
Have 10+ years of engineering experience in power generation, microgrids, battery energy storage, or utility interconnection, with substantial time spent on on-site or distributed generation for mission-critical, data center, or large industrial loads, and deep hands-on delivery experience in at least one of these areas (generation, storage, microgrids, or interconnection)
Have deep hands-on experience with one or more generation technologies — reciprocating engine gensets (diesel and natural gas), gas turbines, or fuel cells — including sizing, paralleling, fuel systems, and emissions controls
Understand the thermal generation asset classes — reciprocating engines across the size range (sub-MW through 10–20 MW units), small- and medium-frame combustion turbines, and combined cycles — and how each responds to fast load changes and holds stable islanded operation
Understand battery energy storage sizing for a defined duty (ride-through, load-step buffering, peak shaving), inverter selection (grid-forming vs. grid-following), UL 9540 listing, UL 9540A test data, and NFPA 855 installation requirements
Understand microgrid architecture end to end — islanding detection and transition, resynchronization, black-start, load-shedding, and generation dispatch
Are fluent in interconnection standards and processes — IEEE 1547, IEEE 2800, utility interconnection requirements, and ISO/RTO study and queue processes
Are comfortable running or critically reviewing power-system studies — load flow, short-circuit, transient stability, and power quality — in tools such as ETAP, SKM, PSS®E, PSCAD, or EasyPower
Hold a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, or a closely related field, or have equivalent practical experience; Professional Engineer (PE) licensure is valued but not required
Have worked directly with generation OEMs, BESS integrators, generation-as-a-service providers, or utilities, and can evaluate equipment and proposals on technical merit rather than datasheet claims
Communicate clearly with technical peers, utilities, regulators, and non-specialist stakeholders, and are results-oriented with a bias toward practical solutions and a willingness to pick up work outside your core remit when the team needs it
Strong candidates may also have
Designed or delivered battery energy storage systems at MW scale
Specified or commissioned a microgrid controller for a site that can island and resynchronize
Taken at least one large load or generation interconnection from application through agreement
HV/MV substation design experience — main one-line development, equipment specification, grounding, and layout — since on-site generation and storage tie in at the substation and the two scopes are tightly coupled
A protection-engineering background covering generation and interconnection protection — relay selection and settings, anti-islanding schemes, and coordination between on-site sources and utility protection
Experience integrating renewable generation (solar PV, wind) with storage into hybrid behind-the-meter plants
Experience on the technical side of air permitting for stationary generation (e.g., Title V, NSR/PSD, or state equivalents) and emissions-control equipment selection
Electromagnetic-transient (EMT) modeling experience in PSCAD or EMTP for inverter-based resource and microgrid-transition studies
Direct experience with data center, hyperscaler, or other large-campus microgrids, or at a generation provider, BESS integrator, or developer serving those customers
A track record of authoring generation or interconnection reference designs or standards that were adopted across multiple sites or by external partners
