BUILD SOMETHING PEOPLE LOVE
Wealthsimple is Canada’s leading financial innovator. The company offers a full suite of simple, sophisticated financial products across managed investing, do-it-yourself trading, cryptocurrency, tax filing, spending and saving. Wealthsimple currently serves more than 4 million Canadians and holds over $155 billion in assets under administration. The company was founded in 2014 by a team of financial experts and technology entrepreneurs, and is headquartered in Toronto, Canada.
We're proud of what we've built — and we're just getting started. Read our Culture Manual https://www.wealthsimple.com/en-ca/culture and learn more about how we work https://www.wealthsimple.com/en-ca/careers.
About the team
We build the products and infrastructure that millions of Canadians trust with their financial lives. Data & Engineering at Wealthsimple spans everything from the client-facing apps to the systems running underneath them — and we hold ourselves to a high bar on both. We move fast, but we build thoughtfully: quality, security, and scalability aren’t trade-offs here, they’re the standard.
The Production Engineering team sits within Platform Experience, on the boundary between Platform and Product. Our mandate is to raise reliability across Wealthsimple’s most critical flows — reducing incidents, helping service teams ship safely, and turning individual fixes into platform-wide improvements. We measure ourselves against two targets: 99.9% uptime on critical flows, and fewer than 1% of weekly active users experiencing errors in the app. If you want to work on hard problems with people who care deeply about craft, you’ll fit right in.
About the role
This is a new role — one that doesn’t yet exist at Wealthsimple — and it’s a meaningful one. As a Staff Software Developer on Production Engineering, you’ll bring senior technical leadership to the work of making Wealthsimple more reliable at scale. You’ll work across platform and product teams, identify the highest-leverage reliability problems, and build solutions that don’t just fix the immediate issue but raise the floor for everyone. This isn’t a role where you sit in one corner of the codebase. It’s a role where you shape how engineering gets done across the company.
What you’ll do
- Improve the platform to prevent incidents — designing and driving adoption of guardrails, sensible defaults, and engineering standards that reduce the likelihood of failures across services
- Build tooling that reduces time to mitigation when incidents occur, including contributing to our in-house product on AI-assisted incident response
- Own the investigation and follow-through on load test findings — translating results into concrete reliability improvements across critical flows
- Work across platform and product engineering teams as a technical influencer — participating in architecture and readiness reviews, coaching service owners, and driving adoption of scalable reliability practices
- Identify recurring failure patterns and design platform-level fixes that prevent them from showing up again in a different service
- Contribute to the team’s reliability syncs with product engineering, helping align on incident themes, critical-flow risks, and the next highest-leverage initiatives
Skills you bring
- 8+ years of software engineering experience, with significant time in platform, infrastructure, or SRE work
- Demonstrated track record of improving reliability at scale — reducing incidents, building guardrails, or driving operational standards across multiple teams
- Strong proficiency in backend systems and distributed architecture; you can diagnose complex failure modes across a service mesh
- Experience with load testing and capacity planning, and the ability to translate findings into concrete engineering improvements
- Proven ability to work across engineering teams as a technical influencer — driving adoption of standards and practices without direct authority
- Familiarity with Kubernetes, Helm, Argo and modern deployment tooling
- Strong written and verbal communication — comfortable presenting findings and recommendations to both engineering teams and senior leadership
Who you are
- You think in systems — you’re not looking for the fix, you’re looking for what caused the problem and how to make sure it doesn’t happen elsewhere
- You’re comfortable working without direct authority; you build credibility through the quality of your thinking and the clarity of your recommendations
- You hold a high bar for operational excellence without making it someone else’s problem to catch up to — you bring people along
- You’re energised by ambiguity, not slowed down by it; you know how to prioritise when everything feels urgent
- You’re curious about where AI-assisted tooling is headed in reliability engineering, and you want to help shape how we use it — not just observe it from a distance

Technology & Innovation at Wealthsimple: We move quickly and build thoughtfully. It’s an exciting time to join us: we’re creating a company with the scale, talent, and technology to help more organizations put their data to work with greater speed, confidence, and impact.
During this transition period, you may see references to both Fivetran and dbt Labs throughout our recruiting process as we integrate our teams, systems, and career sites.
About the Role
We're hiring an Engineering Manager to lead the Semantic Layer team in Bengaluru. You'll own the health, delivery, and growth of the team behind MetricFlow — building and coaching a group of engineers, setting technical direction in partnership with your leads, and ensuring one of the most important projects in the modern data stack keeps shipping with quality and momentum.
This is a hands-on leadership role. You'll spend most of your time growing people, running a healthy delivery process, and shaping strategy — but you'll stay close enough to the code and the architecture to make sound technical calls and earn the trust of a senior engineering team. You'll also be the steward of a public, community-facing open-source project, balancing the needs of internal roadmap and external contributors.
About the team
The Semantic Layer team owns the systems that turn dbt models into trusted, reusable business metrics. At the heart of this is
MetricFlow
— the open-source semantic engine that powers the dbt Semantic Layer. MetricFlow lets data teams define metrics once in code and consume them consistently across BI tools, notebooks, AI agents, and downstream applications.
This team is the steward of MetricFlow as an open-source project: shipping releases, reviewing community contributions, evolving the query compiler, and ensuring it integrates cleanly with the broader dbt ecosystem. The team works at the intersection of language design, query compilation, and distributed data execution — solving problems that directly shape how thousands of organizations measure their business.
What you'll do
Lead, coach, and grow a team of software engineers building MetricFlow — hiring, onboarding, career development, performance management, and day-to-day support.
Own delivery for the Semantic Layer team: planning, prioritization, execution, and predictable shipping of high-quality software.
Partner with your senior and staff engineers to set technical direction across metric definitions, query compilation, dimensional modeling, and SQL generation for multiple data warehouses (Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks, Redshift, and others).
Steward MetricFlow as an open-source project — set the bar for how the team triages issues, reviews external pull requests, manages releases, and engages the community on GitHub and in Slack.
Collaborate with engineering leaders across the dbt platform, dbt Core, and the Semantic Layer service to ensure MetricFlow integrates seamlessly with the rest of the dbt ecosystem.
Partner with product, design, and developer-relations counterparts to translate customer and community feedback into a clear, well-sequenced roadmap.
Drive engineering excellence in performance, reliability, and observability of metric query execution at scale.
Foster a culture of design docs, thoughtful code review, and durable engineering — shipping fast without shipping sloppy.
Skills we're looking for
Experience managing software engineering teams, including hiring, coaching, and performance management, with a track record of shipping production systems.
A strong engineering foundation — you've built and shipped production software yourself and can engage credibly on architecture and technical tradeoffs with a senior team.
Familiarity with the technical domain: SQL fundamentals, how analytical query engines and data warehouses execute queries, and systems that involve parsing, compilation, or transformation (query planners, DSL compilers, type systems, or rule-based engines).
Solid grasp of software design principles: clean APIs, modularity, testability, and backwards compatibility — and the judgment to hold a team to them.
Excellent written and verbal communication — you can explain complex tradeoffs clearly to engineers, product managers, and external community members.
Experience leading in a distributed, asynchronous team environment.
Nice to have
Experience leading or contributing to a popular open-source project, including managing a community of external contributors.
Familiarity with dbt, MetricFlow, LookML, Cube, or other semantic-layer technologies.
Background in data warehousing internals, query optimization, or analytical SQL dialects.
Experience with CI/CD, GitHub Actions, and release engineering for Python libraries.
Exposure to building developer-facing APIs, SDKs, or CLIs.
Why join us
Impact at scale: Your team's code will run inside the data platforms of tens of thousands of companies, including some of the world's largest enterprises.
Open-source ownership: You'll lead the team behind a foundational open-source project — visible, reviewed, and used by the global data community.
A team that values craft: We invest in design docs, code review, and durable engineering. We ship fast, but we don't ship sloppy.
Competitive compensation: Market-leading salary, equity, comprehensive health insurance, generous time off, learning and wellness stipends, and home-office support.

About Pinecone
Pinecone is the trusted AI knowledge company. Its trusted AI knowledge platform—including its Database, Nexus, and Marketplace products—power accurate, fast, and cost-effective AI applications for more than 10,000 customers and 1M developers worldwide. Pinecone's mission is to make AI knowledgeable. For more information, visit pinecone.io http://pinecone.io.
About the Team and Role:
We are hiring a senior/staff software engineer to help design and build core components of our next-generation knowledge retrieval system built for the AI era – search and retrieval infrastructure that powers high-quality, scalable, and enterprise-grade agentic systems. You’ll build the framework that allows our customers to connect knowledge–synthesized from structured and unstructured data–to modern LLM-powered applications, leveraging the world’s best-in-class vector DB supporting semantic search and hybrid retrieval. This role is ideal for someone who loves backend system architecture, distributed systems, and applied AI infrastructure. It is a high impact role with significant ownership across architecture, performance, and system reliability.
Responsibilities:
- Design and build scalable platform components leveraging advanced retrieval via query planning, semantic and hybrid search, metadata-aware search, and LLM generation
- Design and build optimized indexing pipelines for structured and unstructured data
- Build backend services for semantic and hybrid retrieval, knowledge graph construction, and retrieval orchestration
- Improve retrieval quality through evaluation and observability frameworks
- Design APIs for internal and external user and agentic consumers
- Optimize latency, throughput and cost across large-scale inference and retrieval workloads
- Drive technical direction for reliability and security
What You’ll Bring to the Table:
To thrive in this role, you don't need to check every single box, but you should be deeply passionate about how to turn data into knowledge.
Systems Expertise
- Architectural Depth: You have a proven track record (typically 6+ years) of shipping production-grade backends for large-scale systems. You don’t just write code; you design for high throughput, low latency, and long-term maintainability.
- Data Engineering Savvy: You’re comfortable building high-throughput indexing pipelines that handle both the messy world of unstructured data and the rigid world of structured schemas.
AI & Retrieval
- Retrieval Intuition: You understand that "search" is more than just a keyword match. You have direct experience (or deep theoretical knowledge) in semantic search, vector databases, hybrid retrieval strategies, or with traditional search engines like Elastic or OpenSearch.
- RAG & Orchestration: You understand the nuances of Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) patterns, from embedding pipelines and hybrid search techniques to how query planning and metadata filtering can make or break an LLM's performance.
Technical
- Language Fluency: You are an expert in at least one major language like Go, Rust, C++, Java, or Python.
- Infrastructure: Familiarity and experience with modern infrastructure tools, such as Kubernetes, cloud-native architectures, and observability frameworks, as well as infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform or Pulumi.
Ownership & Impact
- Product Thinking: You don't just build to spec; you build for the user. You can design clean, intuitive APIs that both human developers and autonomous agents will love.
- Ambiguity Navigator: You’re comfortable in a high-growth environment. You prefer "owning a problem" over "executing a ticket."
Bonus Points
- Experience building multi-tenant SaaS platforms.
- Experience with retrieval evaluation frameworks—knowing how to actually measure "good" search results.
- Experience with query planning or agentic reasoning loops (e.g., teaching a system how to break down a complex prompt into multiple specific steps).
Perks & Benefits:
- Comprehensive health coverage including medical, dental, vision, and mental health resources
- 401(k) Plan
- Equity award
- Flexible time off
- Paid parental leave
- Annual Company Retreat
- WFH Equipment Stipend
All qualified applicants will receive considerations for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, age, disability, marital status, familial status, sexual orientation, pregnancy, gender identity, gender expression, national origin, ancestry, citizenship status, veteran status, and any other legally protected status under federal, state, or local anti-discrimination laws.

What You'll Be Doing:
Shape e-commerce and GTM strategy -
define the customer problem, identify priority segments, and shape the value proposition, market sequencing, channel approach, and commercial roadmap.

build dashboards, decision-ready reporting, and review rhythms that turn data into recommendations, owners, and measurable performance improvements.
Lead cross-functional orchestration and change -

Commercial modelling experience including opportunity sizing, forecasting, scenario analysis, business-case development, and assessing incremental revenue and customer value.
Strong hands-on analytical capability including working with SQL, Tableau or similar BI tools, spreadsheets, KPI modelling, segmentation, funnel diagnostics, and AI-enabled analytical tools to generate actionable insights.
Structured, hypothesis-driven problem-solving with the ability to bring clarity to complexity, test assumptions, and make practical recommendations from incomplete information.

- Senior Backend Software Engineer (Tactical Access)
- Business Automation - Engineering
- Location: Espoo, Finland
- Reports to: Engineering Lead of Tactical Access squad
- Contract type: Permanent
- Hybrid, 3 days per week in the Espoo office
- Employment is subject to applicable security screening (incl. SUPO)
THE MISSION OF THE SENIOR BACKEND SOFTWARE ENGINEER
You will own the backend systems that let customers plan and manage satellite tasking through Tactical Access, ICEYE's tactical customer access product.
Tactical Access is customer-facing on two fronts, API and web, so this role sits at the intersection of backend engineering rigor and product ownership. You will design and operate the services and data models that power satellite tasking for real customers, and you will be trusted to make API design and reliability decisions that customers depend on directly, not just internal consumers.
WHO WE ARE
ICEYE delivers space-based intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities to governments and allied nations. This includes sovereign and turnkey ISR missions leveraging ICEYE's world-leading synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellite technology, as well as access to data from the world's largest SAR satellite constellation. These capabilities enable partners to detect and respond to critical changes anywhere on Earth with unprecedented speed and accuracy, day or night and in any weather, supported by ultra high-resolution imagery and high-frequency revisits.
As a trusted partner for defense, intelligence, security, and maritime domain awareness, ICEYE's near real-time data creates a tactical advantage for mission-critical operations. Designed for dual use, the platform also serves civil protection and commercial users for natural-catastrophe intelligence, insurance, maritime monitoring (including oil-spill detection), and finance, contributing to global security and community resilience.
ICEYE operates internationally with offices in Finland, Poland, Spain, Japan, the UAE, Greece, and the US. The company has more than 900 employees, inspired by the shared vision of improving life on Earth by becoming the global source of truth in Earth Observation.
EXPECTED OUTCOMES & REQUIREMENTS
Outcomes
- Own end-to-end delivery of at least one significant Tactical Access backend capability, from API design through production operation, with documented tradeoffs
- Reduce production risk in owned services through improved observability (metrics, traces, alerting) and demonstrated root-cause fixes, not just symptom patches
- Ship API changes that account for client/customer impact (versioning, backwards compatibility) with no unplanned breaking changes to integrators
- Collaborate directly with product managers, customers, and other engineering teams to turn business needs into the right technical tradeoffs
- Contribute full-stack when end-to-end delivery requires it, without backend ownership slipping as a result
- Actively raise the engineering bar in code review and architecture discussions for the team, not just their own PRs
Role-specific Competences
- Production backend engineering experience in Go (or a closely comparable typed language) building and operating APIs and backend systems in production
- API design and lifecycle ownership: versioning, backwards compatibility, and reasoning about customer impact of changes
- Cloud (AWS) and container/orchestration experience (Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform); on-prem environment awareness is a plus
- Data and messaging experience: PostgreSQL for storage, NATS for event-driven communication
- Observability experience: building and maintaining dashboards and alerting with Prometheus, Grafana, and OpenTelemetry; comfortable distinguishing metrics, logs, and traces during a live incident
- Treats testing, documentation, and code review as core engineering practice, not overhead
- Applies security and quality best practices in a production, customer-facing system
- Good experience in AI-assisted engineering tools (Cursor, Devin, or similar)
- Familiarity with authentication/authorization standards (OAuth, OpenID Connect, JWT) and geospatial data (PostGIS, GeoJSON)
KEY COMPETENCES
In addition to the requirements above, we evaluate candidates on these key qualities throughout the hiring process:
Intellectual Firepower: Rapidly comprehends, structures and synthesizes complex information, draws accurate conclusions, and communicates them with clarity.
Passion & Work Ethic: Brings sustained motivation, resilience, and high personal standards to every challenge.
Ownership & Action: Assumes full accountability for outcomes, acting decisively, and ensuring commitments are delivered.
Team Player: Works collaboratively across teams, contributing to shared success, and engaging in constructive debate.
Integrity & Growth Mindset: Operates with transparency and humility, learns from setbacks, and actively seeks opportunities to grow.

Synthesia is the world’s leading AI video platform for business, used by over 90% of the Fortune 100. Founded in 2017, the company is headquartered in London, with offices and teams across Europe and the US.
As AI continues to shape the way we live and work, Synthesia develops products to enhance visual communication and enterprise skill development, helping people work better and stay at the center of successful organizations.
Following our recent Series E funding round, where we raised $200 million, our valuation stands at $4 billion. Our total funding exceeds $530 million from premier investors including Accel, NVentures (Nvidia's VC arm), Kleiner Perkins, GV, and Evantic Capital, alongside the founders and operators of Stripe, Datadog, Miro, and Webflow.
ROLE OVERVIEW
Synthesia is used by over 90% of the Fortune 100, and the largest deployments now run thousands of creators across dozens of markets, languages, and compliance regimes. What decides whether those accounts expand or stall is not another avatar, it is whether admins, legal, and programme owners can actually stay in control.
You'll own that layer end to end: workspace setup and governance, the content lifecycle, and the analytics and integrations that close the loop. This is the work that turns a proof of concept into a seven-figure renewal, and right now it is wide open.
WHY THIS ROLE NOW
AI video has crossed from experiment to standard tooling inside the world's biggest companies. The next phase of growth is won or lost on whether we can make that scale safe and manageable. That is your remit.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
- Owning the end-to-end roadmap for content lifecycle, governance, and the operational layer that keeps enterprise deployments running - from workspace setup through compliance controls
- Getting close to enterprise customers: understanding how IT admins, legal teams, programme managers and content owners think about governance, and what "in control" actually looks like at scale
- Translating that into clear product direction, what to build, in what order, and why, and keeping engineering and design aligned to it as the strategy evolves
- Working closely with the engineering manager and designer in the team; writing clear specs, making good calls on trade-offs, and providing the context that helps engineers build the right thing first time
- Partnering with Solutions, CS, and Legal on complex enterprise deals. These features are frequently deal-critical and the commercial loop matters
- Defining the metrics that tell us whether this layer is working: adoption of admin tooling, compliance feature usage, reduction in support escalations related to governance gaps
WHO YOU ARE
You've excited by the challenge that comes with untangling the inherent complexity of enterprise platform products. You understand that governance and compliance work isn't glamorous, but you know it's the difference between a proof of concept and a seven-figure renewal.
You can hold a conversation with a CISO and with a content creator, and understand what each of them needs from the same system.
YOU MAY BE A GOOD FIT IF YOU BRING
- Significant experience owning a critical product domain - setting strategy, not just executing it
- A track record of connecting product outcomes to commercial results: ARR, retention, expansion, or equivalent
- Comfortable working across a broad surface area. You can prioritise ruthlessly and make the case for what gets built next
- Strong written communication: PRDs, strategy docs, and customer insight summaries that others can act on without a follow-up
- Ability to ramp quickly on to the complexity of enterprise buying motions. You'll be close to the commercial team on complex deals and that context matters
- Based in London or open to regular travel; the team is London-anchored and in-person time matters
We encourage you to apply even if you don't meet every point above. Strong candidates rarely match a list exactly, and we'd rather hear from you.
OUR CULTURE
At Synthesia we’re passionate about building, not talking, planning or politicising. We strive to hire the smartest, kindest and most unrelenting people and let them do their best work without distractions. Our work principles serve as our charter for how we make decisions, give feedback and structure our work to empower everyone to go as fast as possible. LOCATION
