INTERVIEW PROCESS
We believe that the interview process should be transparent, consistent, and enjoyable. We value your time and hope to complete the interview process in two to four weeks, if schedules allow. Through your interviews, you will meet a mix of individual contributors, managers, and senior leaders.
AI USE DURING THE INTERVIEW PROCESS
As an AI company, Coder embraces the use of AI tools, and we want to be transparent about our expectations as you navigate our interview process.
Not permitted: Using AI assistance during conversational interviews.
Permitted: Using AI tooling for take-home assessments. Please flag where and to what extent it was used in your take-home. Your submission will not be penalized for using AI as long as it is done honestly.
OUR USE OF AI IN HIRING
We use AI tools to help manage our recruitment process efficiently and fairly. Specifically:
- Ashby and Brainerr help us review inbound applications by surfacing candidates who best match the role requirements we've defined. This tool does not make hiring decisions; it helps our team prioritize which applications to review first.
- Granola takes notes during our interview calls so our team can focus on the conversation with you.
All hiring decisions are made by humans. Our team reviews applications, conducts interviews, and makes final selections. AI tools assist us but never replace human judgment, and these practices are conducted in compliance with applicable data protection, AI governance, and labor laws. Your data is not used to train AI models.
In accordance with New York City Local Law 144, an independent bias audit has been conducted on "Automated Employment Decision Tools"; results are available for Ashby https://www.ashbyhq.com/downloadables/ashby-bias-audit-08-2024.pdf.
If you're applying for a role at Coder and have questions about how we use AI in our process, or if you'd like to request information about the data we collect, please contact careers@coder.com.

We've raised $116M from some of the world's best investors: GV (Google Ventures), Redpoint, Balderton, Point Nine, and 01A.
We hire builders who thrive on complex technical challenges, hold themselves to a high bar, and genuinely care about delighting the people who use what they build. The team here brings sharp judgement, real craft, and the drive to do exceptional work. We're obsessed about the details and energized by the frontier.
If you want to do the best work of your career, this is the right place.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Our Engineering team tackles the toughest challenges, so our users never have to. Real-time infrastructure, AI-native architecture, and a frontend that feels effortless - all powered by a team that moves fast, thinks rigorously, and holds an exceptionally high bar for quality.

- A passion for growing the skills of others. As you deliver projects through your technical leadership, you’ll be keen to grow the next generation of technical leaders. You’ll have demonstrated impact through mentoring and coaching, and be able to flex your style depending on the needs of your colleagues. ABOUT BASETEN
Baseten powers mission-critical inference for the world's most dynamic AI companies, like Cursor, Notion, OpenEvidence, Abridge, Clay, Gamma, and Writer. By uniting applied AI research, flexible infrastructure, and seamless developer tooling, we enable companies operating at the frontier of AI to bring cutting-edge models into production. We're growing quickly and recently raised our $1.5B Series F https://www.baseten.co/blog/announcing-our-series-f/, led by Altimeter Capital, Conviction Partners, and Spark Capital. Join us and help build the platform engineers turn to ship AI products.
THE ROLE
Forward Deployed Engineers work directly with the largest and fastest-growing AI companies in the world, owning their technical outcomes on Baseten and taking on the hardest problems in serving and improving models at scale. The work spans the model lifecycle: inference, post-training, and the systems that tighten the loop between them.
- Act as each account's de facto CTO on Baseten, with final accountability for how their workloads are designed, run, and scaled.
- Take customer objectives from vague to shipped: frame the problem, define the spec and success criteria, build the PoC, and carry it through to production quickly, using the right tools for the problem.
- Design the evals and benchmarks that isolate where quality or performance falls short, then close the gap yourself, whether that means optimizing inference, improving the model through post-training, or reworking the eval itself.
- Be the first responder to mission-critical failures including triage, owning the fix directly or route to the owning team and stay accountable until it ships.
- Build internal systems so that each engagement is faster than the last. This includes tooling and automation for eval and deployment infrastructure, and the recipes and reference implementations that make the product more self-serve.
- Shape the product itself, channeling what your accounts need into the roadmap and shipping fixes and features into Baseten's codebase yourself.
- Do all of this across multiple accounts at once, sequencing the work, pulling in the right people at the right time, and keeping customers and internal stakeholders aligned on status and risk.
REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum 1-2 years of software engineering experience, shipping and maintaining code in large production systems, ideally with breadth across the stack
- Experience debugging complex production issues - working through logs, metrics, and traces to root-cause problems in unfamiliar systems
- Confidence owning ambiguous technical problems. This includes triaging, making decisions under uncertainty, and knowing when to pull in other engineers who own the underlying systems
- Motivation beyond pure engineering. An interest in wanting to work directly with customers, understand their problems firsthand, and influence the product
- Clear communication on complex technical topics, whether you're talking to a customer's engineers or their leadership
- Genuine curiosity about AI inference and training, and a drive to become an expert in the infrastructure powering it
- Willingness to respond to customers outside regular working hours and participate in an on-call rotation
- Excitement about solving problems for some of the largest and fastest-growing companies in the world running mission-critical AI workloads
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
We don't expect any one person to cover all of this - the strongest candidates may spike in one or two of the following:
- Depth in a core infrastructure domain such as storage systems or networking (anywhere from the cloud layer to cluster interconnects like InfiniBand and RoCE)
- Experience operating distributed compute platforms like Kubernetes, Slurm, or Ray, especially for GPU workloads
- A detailed understanding of LLM architectures and modern inference engines like vLLM, TensorRT-LLM, or SGLang
- The ability to profile and optimize GPU workloads, in training or serving
- Hands-on experience with post-training techniques like SFT and RL, or a broader deep learning background plus fluency in a tensor computation library like PyTorch or JAX
- Operational depth - running on-call, leading incident response, debugging distributed systems under pressure
BENEFITS
- Competitive compensation, including meaningful equity
- (U.S. only) 100% coverage of medical, dental, and vision insurance for employee and dependents
- Flexible PTO policy including company wide Winter Break (our offices are closed from Christmas Eve to New Year's Day!)
- Paid parental leave
- Fertility and family-building stipend through Carrot
- (U.S. only) Company-facilitated 401(k)
- Exposure to a variety of ML startups, offering unparalleled learning and networking opportunities.
Apply now to embark on a rewarding journey in shaping the future of AI! If you are a motivated individual with a passion for machine learning and a desire to be part of a collaborative and forward-thinking team, we would love to hear from you.
At Baseten, we are committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace. We provide equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants without regard to race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, age, genetic information, disability, or veteran status.

From Fivetran’s founding until now, our mission has remained the same: to make access to data as simple and reliable as electricity. With Fivetran, customer data arrives in their warehouses, canonical and ready to query, with no engineering or maintenance required. We’re proud that more organizations continue to leverage our technology every day to become truly data-driven.
About Us
Fivetran and dbt Labs are bringing together two industry-leading companies with a shared mission: helping organizations unlock the full value of their data. Together, we’re delivering the data infrastructure layer that helps organizations move, transform, and trust their data — from the moment data moves, through every transformation, to the context teams and AI systems rely on. Fivetran helps organizations automate data movement across the systems, clouds, engines, and tools they rely on. dbt Labs pioneered analytics engineering, helping teams transform data into reliable, governed insights. Together, we support thousands of organizations as they build a trusted foundation for analytics, AI, and better business decisions. As we bring our teams and technology together, we’re building on the strengths of both companies while continuing to deliver the products and experiences our customers know and trust. It’s an exciting time to join us: we’re creating a company with the scale, talent, and technology to help more organizations put their data to work with greater speed, confidence, and impact. During this transition period, you may see references to both Fivetran and dbt Labs throughout our recruiting process as we integrate our teams, systems, and career sites.
The way data practitioners write, debug, and ship dbt code is changing fast — and you'll be the person shaping what that experience looks like at the frontier of AI-assisted development.
As the Product Manager for Developer Experience, you will own the end-to-end developer workflow in dbt Cloud: the
Studio IDE
,
Developer Agent
(our AI coding assistant), the
Cloud CLI

dbt VS Code Extension

✨ ONE PLATFORM, A WHOLE WORLD OF OPPORTUNITY
The best jobs have always clustered in a handful of the world's wealthiest cities. But talent is everywhere. Oyster set out to close that gap - building a global employment platform that lets companies hire, pay, and care for brilliant people anywhere.
We're proof that a high-performing culture doesn't need an office. Distributed across 60+ countries since 2020, we've built something the industry keeps noticing:
- Ranked #10 of 250 on TIME and Statista's 2026 list of America's Top WorkTech Companies https://www.oysterhr.com/library/oyster-hr-named-10-of-americas-top-worktech-companies-of-2026-by-time
- Named one of America's Greatest Startup Workplaces 2026 https://www.oysterhr.com/library/oyster-2026-newsweek-award by Newsweek
- A G2 Spring 2026 Leader https://www.oysterhr.com/library/oyster-named-best-roi-for-any-global-employment-platform-for-g2-spring-2026 across Employer of Record, Global Employment, Multi-country Payroll, and HR Compliance
- The only B Corp-certified global employment platform ~ independently verified since 2023
Two of those rankings measured our business impact from the outside. One measured how our own people feel about working here. They landed in the same place ~ because at Oyster, culture and performance aren't separate conversations. They're the same one.
And we're just getting started. If you want to do the best work of your career alongside people who care as much as you do, we'd love for you to apply.
Location: To create the best experience for this employee and meet business needs, this role requires you to be based within the EMEA region.
ROLE SUMMARY
This is an exciting time to join Oyster. The Netherlands is one of our most important markets—this role will give you real ownership over how payroll runs, with the scope to help us achieve best-in-class payroll standards at scale.
You'll be a valued member of our in-house payroll team: someone we trust to accurately produce your assigned stream of Dutch payroll each cycle, follow our AFAS processes closely, and flag anything that doesn't look right. If you have hands-on native Dutch payroll experience, are comfortable executing structured processes with care, and want to build your skills within a payroll function that's still taking shape, this role is for you.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Process payroll accurately. Produce your assigned stream of the native Dutch payroll cycle in-house each period; accurate, compliant, and on time.
- Master data accuracy. Process and check employee payroll master data — new hires, terminations, salary changes, variable pay, benefits, absences, and garnishments (loonbeslag) — following defined procedures and flagging anything unclear or that looks off.
- Payroll controls & quality. Run pre- and post-payroll validations each cycle; check your own work carefully, and flag anything that doesn't look right before issues reach team members, customers, or Finance.
- Handle all statutory filings & accesses. monthly loonaangifte filings to the Belastingdienst, UWV wage declarations, and the annual jaarloonopgaaf, filing of Ziektewet and WAZO reimbursement claims with UWV, owning the retrieval and maintenance of employee loonheffingskorting data: you follow established procedures for these activities and flag anything that looks off. You'll support the setup and maintenance of required government accesses as directed.
- Follow the payroll system procedures. Follow defined steps to help maintain the in-house payroll system, test legislative updates before they go live as directed, and flag issues or ideas to your team lead or our Product team.
- Build your subject matter knowledge. Learn and follow Loonheffingenrecht, Socialezekerheidsrecht, Arbeidsrecht, and CAO (Collectieve Arbeidsovereenkomst) as they apply to your work, and ask questions when something is unclear.
- Check your numbers. Check payroll journals and GL mappings against your outputs, and flag any data integrity issues you notice.
- Handle assigned tickets. Handle assigned client payroll tickets well, and escalate anything that exceeds your frame to senior team members. Pair careful, accurate work with a customer-first mindset.
- Reporting. Help prepare statutory and ad-hoc reports to meet regulatory requirements, including EU Pay Transparency Directive obligations, Ondernemingsraad (OR)-facing pay assessment documentation, and AVG/GDPR compliance across payroll data.
- Audits. Provide structured data and documentation to support internal and external audits.
- Support the team. Follow SOPs closely and flag gaps when you spot them. Share knowledge when asked and support your peers informally, helping keep our living knowledge base — playbooks and SOPs — documented and shared.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- 1–3 years running native (in-house) payroll processes for the Netherlands, comfortable independently handling a defined volume of payslips per month.
- Hands-on AFAS and / or Nmbrs by Visma and / or Loket.nl http://Loket.nl processing experience.
- Completed the Praktijkdiploma Loonadministratie (PDL) and/or NIRPA Register Salarisadministrateur (RSa) registration.
- Working knowledge of Dutch wage tax, social insurance, and labor law, with a willingness to build deeper expertise over time.
- Dutch at C1/C2 for interaction with local authorities and fluent English for collaborating with our async global team.
- Comfortable handling assigned client queries and escalating anything beyond your scope with clear context; balancing careful, accurate work with a genuine customer-first mindset.
- A careful, detail-oriented mindset. You check your own work thoroughly and flag patterns or issues as you notice them.
- Comfortable navigating ambiguity within your own workstream, and know when to escalate something that falls outside your frame.
- You're happy to share knowledge when asked and support your peers informally.
- Comfortable working largely asynchronously in a fast-paced, remote-first environment.
DESIRABLE SKILLS
- A broader accounting background or qualification (e.g. RA/AA accountancy qualification); particularly useful for the GL mapping and reconciliation side of the role.
- Proven experience working on and delivering cross-functional HR/Payroll projects.
- Hands-on capability working with AI tools to optimize payroll or operations workflows.
- Strong data transformation skills and practical experience with data analytics platforms.

ABOUT THE ROLE
We're hiring someone to lead Employee Programs based in our San Francisco office.
You'll own new hire onboarding end to end, designing and running programs that get people productive fast and fluent in how we work. You'll design and confidently facilitate the in-person programming that makes this happen, in our SF office and for our distributed teams, and build lightweight tools to track whether it's actually working.
You'll partner with leadership and cross-functional teams to build training that supports competencies that scale as the company grows.
RESPONSIBILTIES
- Own end-to-end design of new hire onboarding, including in-person programming in our SF office (e.g. culture and communication) and support individual team onsites (twice annually per team)
- Build structured onboarding curriculum covering role ramp-up, cross-functional context, roadmap understanding, and how decisions get made
- Measure onboarding effectiveness (time to productivity, ramp feedback, manager input) and iterate each cohort
- Collaborate with our operations team to contribute content and programming for company-wide offsites
- Design and facilitate a new manager training program covering core management skills and how management works here specifically
- Own personal growth and upskilling programs for employees who need targeted skill development: identify gaps, build or source training, track progress
- Partner with managers and leadership to spot where upskilling closes a real performance or capability gap
- Confidently facilitate large-group sessions, comfortable running a room for onboarding cohorts, manager training, or team onsites, not just designing the content
- Use AI-forward, no-code tools to build lightweight internal tools that track ramp progress and distribute onboarding content automatically, reducing manual, one-off work
REQUIREMENTS
- Have 5+ years in internal events, employee experience, learning & development or People programs at a high growth startup
- Are an exceptional communicator, both written and verbal
- Confident public speaker and experienced facilitator: can run sessions for large or mixed-seniority groups and hold a room
- Experience building new manager or leadership training programs
- Have strong operational instincts and excellent project management skills
- Care deeply about creating memorable employee experiences
- Think in systems and continuously improve programs based on feedback
- This is an in-person role, alongside building community

Staff Backend Engineer - Mimir Query, Databases
This is a remote position. We are looking for candidates in the USA time zones.
What is Grafana Cloud?
Grafana Cloud is our composable observability platform that integrates metrics, logs, traces, and profiles with Grafana. It allows our customers to leverage the best open source observability software – including Prometheus, Mimir, Loki, Tempo, and Pyroscope – without the overhead of installing, maintaining and scaling their own observability stack.
The Databases team owns and operates the telemetry databases that are
Mimir for metrics
,
Loki for logs
,
Tempo for traces
, and
Pyroscope for profiles
. Our databases are offered as a hosted service in Grafana Cloud, and additionally as on-premise solutions with
Grafana Enterprise Metrics
,
Grafana Enterprise Logs
, and
Grafana Enterprise Traces
. They are multi-tenant distributed systems implemented in Go and operating at scale on Kubernetes across all major Cloud service providers (AWS, GCP, Azure).
As a company we are remote-first and global, we embrace people of different experiences and backgrounds to build diverse teams where every person brings a new perspective to the software.
Mimir Squad
The Mimir squad has 3 sub-squads, Ingest, Storage, and Query, which together maintain the
Mimir OSS project

Engineers on the team focus on optimizing the efficiency and resilience of processing, storing, and querying metrics at large volumes. These services operate at a large scale and performance is key to keeping the offering competitive and running smoothly.
A Mimir engineer has various work streams. They are likely engaged in a larger project with another engineer, and they are also incorporating some performance and reliability improvements discovered through operating the system in production. They are also responsible for writing and reviewing PRs and design documents from other engineers in the squad, shepherding automated release rollouts, and participating in the on-call rotation for their systems.
What will you be doing:
Take an active role in influencing our roadmap and your own career objectives
Work with your team to deliver new features, then use the results to iterate and improve.
Drive projects from initial idea all the way to operations once it is in the hands of customers
Embrace our open-source culture and contribute to other projects that may not directly fall within your team’s scope
Design, build, operate, and maintain critical systems, owning the reliability, performance, and availability
Be a part of your team’s follow-the-sun on-call rotations and take ownership of the services you’re running
Support other team members, participate in design discussions and collaborate with the team
Learn new skills by gaining a deeper understanding of our cloud product and our customers and getting to know the codebase of a large distributed system
We invest heavily in developer productivity. You can use modern AI coding assistants as part of your daily workflow (your choice of tools, within security guidelines), backed by a company-funded usage budget so you can iterate quickly without unnecessary friction. We encourage pragmatic AI-assisted development: faster prototyping, test generation, refactors, documentation, and incident follow-ups—always with strong code review and quality standards. You'll also have access to the latest frontier models from OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google.
What makes you a great fit:
You are a motivated self starter with a bias towards action. You are customer focused. We build everything with our users in mind. You have a passion for creating intuitive products that fit customers’ needs. You have good time management skills, which you leverage to work on the right things at the right time.
Pragmatism: You are able to take on complex challenges and break them down to achieve short feedback loops: to analyze, design, and build modular solutions, deliver MVPs, gather data and feedback and then progress iteratively
Collaboration and communication: The smallest unit we have is a squad. You’ll be working with your teammates in a fully remote setup. Good communication and time management skills are a must.
Solid experience with at least one programming language. We use Go, but if you have familiarity with Python, C, C++, Rust or similar then that translates well
Experience with leading and delivering projects from gathering requirements, brainstorming ideas all the way to shipping a product to the customer’s hands in a self-driven and collaborative way

ABOUT DOCKER
Docker has been one of the most loved brands in developer tooling, trusted by more than 20 million monthly users and over 20 billion container image pulls. From solo founders to the world's largest companies, developers rely on Docker to build, share, and run their applications across our suite of products including Docker Desktop, Docker Hub, and Docker Scout.
We are a globally distributed, remote-first team building the tools that define how software gets built and delivered. As AI agents redefine software development, Docker is at the center of that shift, providing the sandboxed environments, verified images, and secure infrastructure that make autonomous workflows trustworthy by default.
_______________________________________________________________________
Nowhere is that shift harder, or higher stakes, than in government. Federal agencies are being asked to adopt AI quickly while proving that every model, every artifact, and every build step is governed, attested, and auditable. We are hiring a Principal Sales Engineer to own the technical side of that conversation across the US Public Sector.
This is a single seat covering both the Department of War and Federal Civilian. You will be the technical face of Docker to agency CIOs, CISOs, program offices, and the platform teams who actually run the pipelines, partnering with our Federal Account Executives to shape requirements early and win competitive technical evaluations.
You will act as a trusted technical advisor and champion owner, partnering closely with Account Executives, Post Sales, Product, and our partner and reseller ecosystem to drive measurable mission and technical value through:
- Technical Selling and Deal Shaping
- AI Governance and Secure Software Supply Chain Thought Leadership
- Federal Compliance and Accreditation Fluency
- Technical Champion Ownership
- Customer and Internal Advocacy
- Competitive and Strategic Selling
This role reports to the Director of Solutions Engineering and operates at the intersection of technical depth, mission understanding, and competitive selling discipline.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Technical Selling and Deal Shaping
- Lead deep technical discovery across program offices, platform and DevSecOps teams, security organizations, and AI/ML groups to understand:
- AI governance and responsible AI requirements, including agency guidance and NIST AI Risk Management Framework alignment
- Software supply chain risk posture and secure software development expectations
- Accreditation and authorization constraints, including ATO timelines and continuous authorization goals
- Air-gapped, classified, and disconnected environment requirements
- Shape technical requirements early in the acquisition cycle so that agency evaluation criteria reflect Docker's differentiated value in AI governance, container and artifact security, and software supply chain integrity.
- Design, position, and execute structured PoCs and PoVs focused on:
- Policy enforcement and policy-as-code
- Image and artifact integrity, provenance, and attestation
- SBOM generation and visibility
- Hardened and minimal base images for regulated workloads, including FIPS and STIG-aligned variants
- AI workload governance controls and sandboxed agentic development
- Secure build pipelines in constrained and disconnected networks
- Define clear success criteria, evaluation frameworks, and executive-ready value summaries that a program executive can carry into a funding conversation.
- Influence decision-making through demos, workshops, architecture reviews, technical exchange meetings, and executive briefings.
- Translate complex AI security and governance capabilities into mission outcomes for CIOs, CISOs, Chief Data and AI Officers, and program leadership.
AI Governance and Secure Software Supply Chain Thought Leadership
- Establish credibility as a trusted advisor on:
- Responsible AI development practices in government
- Secure AI model and agent lifecycle management
- Software supply chain integrity and provenance
- Container and artifact security in accredited environments
- DevSecOps practice in federal platform organizations
- Guide agency teams in implementing governance controls across AI-enabled SDLC workflows, including identity and access governance for AI workloads and policy-as-code enforcement.
- Represent Docker publicly in the federal community through industry days, agency technical exchange meetings, conference sessions, webinars, and written content such as reference architectures and whitepapers.
Federal Compliance and Accreditation Fluency
- Serve as the team's subject matter expert on how Docker's products fit inside federal security and accreditation frameworks, and on what evidence agency assessors and authorizing officials will ask for.
- Position and explain the compliance artifacts Docker Hardened Images produce, including FIPS image variants built on FIPS 140 validated cryptographic modules, STIG scan results aligned to the DoW General Purpose Operating System SRG, and the signed attestations that accompany both. Help customers understand precisely what those artifacts do and do not establish for their own authorization package.
- Work fluently with the language and constraints of FedRAMP, NIST 800-53 and 800-171, the NIST Secure Software Development Framework, DISA STIGs and SRGs, DoW Impact Levels, and continuous ATO models.
- Support responses to RFIs, RFPs, security questionnaires, and technical evaluation criteria, partnering with Sales, Legal, Product, and Security.
- Advise on deployment patterns for on-premises, air-gapped, and government cloud environments, and work with partners and system integrators where they carry the delivery.
Technical Champion Ownership
- Build, own, and expand relationships with technical champions across security, platform, DevSecOps, and AI teams inside agencies and their supporting integrators.
- Leverage champion relationships to influence broader buying groups, shape requirements, and uncover expansion across programs and sub-agencies.
- Maintain engagement beyond initial award so outcomes are realized and renewals and expansions are earned.
Customer and Internal Advocacy
- Advocate for federal customer needs with Product and Engineering, providing clear, actionable feedback informed by field experience. You will be the primary voice inside Docker for what the public sector actually needs.
- Coordinate with Post Sales and Support to ensure continuity across the customer lifecycle, including in environments where Docker staff have limited access.
- Develop reusable technical assets (workshops, demos, reference architectures, compliance briefings, enablement content) that scale across agencies and across the wider Solutions Engineering team.
Competitive and Strategic Selling
- Actively support competitive motions, identifying differentiation and influencing evaluation criteria throughout the acquisition cycle.
- Partner with Account Executives, channel partners, and system integrators to develop technical win strategies for strategic federal programs.
- Support the technical side of contract vehicle and partner-led motions where Docker is sold through a reseller or integrator.
QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIRED
- 8+ years in technical pre-sales as a Sales Engineer, Solutions Engineer, or Solutions Architect, selling infrastructure software, developer tools, or security products into complex enterprise or government accounts.
- 3+ years selling into US Federal, covering DoW, Federal Civilian, or both, with a demonstrable record of technical wins inside federal acquisition cycles.
- Working knowledge of federal security and accreditation frameworks: FedRAMP, NIST 800-53, DISA STIGs, DoW Impact Levels, and the ATO process.

Application Platform is part of Product Platform within Figma’s Infrastructure organization. We build shared foundations that help engineers ship backend product work quickly, safely, and reliably. The team owns a large Ruby application that powers Figma’s REST APIs, asynchronous jobs, and workflow orchestration. Our systems sit on critical production paths and shape the day-to-day experience of backend engineers across Figma.
We’re looking for an experienced backend engineer with meaningful production Ruby experience who enjoys building for other engineers. You don’t need to be a Ruby language specialist. You should be comfortable making informed tradeoffs in a substantial shared codebase and turning recurring problems into durable systems, tools, and paved paths that improve engineering velocity across the company.
This is a full time role that can be held from one of our US hubs or remotely in the United States.
What you’ll do at Figma:
Design and evolve shared Ruby frameworks for REST APIs, asynchronous jobs, workflow orchestration, and data access
Improve the availability, reliability, scalability, and performance of backend systems that support critical product functionality
Modernize a large Ruby codebase through safe architectural changes, including moving REST APIs from Sinatra toward Rails and introducing stronger endpoint abstractions and type safety
Make backend development faster by improving hot reloading, local workflows, test infrastructure, CI reliability, debugging tools, and iteration speed
Strengthen the scalability, isolation, observability, and recovery capabilities of Figma’s asynchronous job platform
Partner with product engineers—your customers—and Infrastructure teams to identify recurring pain points and turn them into reusable platform capabilities
Establish pragmatic engineering practices through shared libraries, APIs, documentation, tooling, code review, and technical guidance
Mentor other engineers and contribute to a culture of thoughtful execution, high technical standards, and shared ownership
We'd love to hear from you if you have:
Bring 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 3+ years building production systems with Ruby
Build, maintain, and evolve large Ruby applications and shared backend codebases that support multiple engineering teams
Design reliable distributed systems at production scale, including APIs, background processing, testing, observability, and operations
Improve complex, established systems through architecture, modularization, migrations, performance, reliability, or developer tooling
Create scalable abstractions, navigate technical tradeoffs, and collaborate with and mentor engineers across teams
While not required, it’s an added plus if you also have:
Experience with background-job or workflow systems, including retries, idempotency, scheduling, backpressure, isolation, and failure recovery
Experience with AWS services such as SQS and EKS, workflow systems such as Temporal, or infrastructure tools such as Kubernetes and Terraform
Experience improving test performance, local development environments, CI systems, or large-scale code migrations
At Figma, one of our values is Grow as you go. We believe in hiring smart, curious people who are excited to learn and develop their skills. If you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with the points outlined in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyways. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles.

ABOUT US:
AI NEEDS A NEW INFRASTRUCTURE LAYER. WE'RE BUILDING IT AT MODAL.
Every era of computing brought new workloads that previous infrastructure couldn't support: mainframes, databases, and the cloud. Each time, the company that rebuilt the layer underneath defined the decade. AI is no different, except it touches everything instead of one slice, and the window to build the layer underneath it is open right now.
Our customers include category-defining companies like Ramp https://modal.com/blog/how-ramp-built-a-full-context-background-coding-agent-on-modal, Cognition, DoorDash, and Suno. They rely on Modal for instant GPU access, sub-second container starts, and native storage, so it's simple to serve low-latency inference, fine-tune models, and access production-ready sandboxes at scale.
We've passed $1B in annualized run rate, up 15x from a year ago. In October 2026 we raised a $750M Series D led by Accel at a $15.75B valuation.
Our team includes creators of popular open-source projects (e.g.,Seaborn https://github.com/mwaskom/seaborn,Luigi https://github.com/spotify/luigi), academic researchers, international olympiad medalists, and experienced engineering and product leaders with decades of experience.
