ABOUT BASETEN
Baseten powers mission-critical inference for the world's most dynamic AI companies, like Cursor, Notion, OpenEvidence, Abridge, Clay, Gamma, and Writer. By uniting applied AI research, flexible infrastructure, and seamless developer tooling, we enable companies operating at the frontier of AI to bring cutting-edge models into production. We're growing quickly and recently raised our $1.5B Series F https://www.baseten.co/blog/announcing-our-series-f/, led by Altimeter Capital, Conviction Partners, and Spark Capital. Join us and help build the platform engineers turn to ship AI products.
THE ROLE
We're looking for distributed systems engineers and product-minded generalists to build the distributed runtime that powers large-scale LLM inference on Baseten. Our inference platform empowers customers to deploy and operate cutting-edge models with industry-leading performance, scalability, and reliability. It also powers Model APIs, our hosted endpoints for the latest open-source models. You'll work across the stack, from the developer experience customers use to deploy models, through the libraries behind features like tool calling and reasoning, down to the systems that orchestrate deployments on Kubernetes and route traffic efficiently. Your job is to make sure every model on our platform is fast, reliable, and cost-efficient. You'll join a small, high-impact team at the intersection of distributed systems, model performance, infrastructure, and product, helping define how developers use AI models at scale. This role is ideal for engineers who enjoy owning systems in production, solving hard integration problems, and making complex infrastructure simple and reliable for users.
EXAMPLE INITIATIVES
You'll get to work on these types of projects on our Inference Platform:
- The Baseten Inference Stack at NVIDIA Dynamo Day https://www.baseten.co/blog/nvidia-dynamo-day-baseten-inference-stack/
- 2x faster inference with KV cache-aware routing https://www.baseten.co/blog/how-baseten-achieved-2x-faster-inference-with-nvidia-dynamo/
- How Baseten multi-cloud capacity management (MCM) unifies deployments https://www.baseten.co/blog/how-baseten-multi-cloud-capacity-management-mcm-powers-cloud-self-hosted-and-hybr/#comparing-deployment-options-cloud-vs-self-hosted-vs-hybrid
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Build the infrastructure and orchestration systems that deploy and run large-scale distributed LLM inference, including routing, autoscaling, scheduling, and runtime management.
- Design, build, and operate Model APIs, with a focus on advanced inference capabilities: structured outputs (JSON mode, grammar-constrained generation), tool/function calling, and multimodal serving.
- Implement platform fundamentals such as API versioning, validation, usage metering, quotas, and authentication.
- Instrument deep observability (metrics, traces, logs) and build repeatable benchmarks for speed, reliability, and quality. Help set best practices for testing, release automation, and operational excellence.
- Debug and harden complex production systems spanning Kubernetes, distributed runtimes, networking, and GPU workloads to improve reliability and scalability.
- Partner with Inference Performance engineers and other teams to make new optimizations broadly available to customers and easy to configure.
- Own projects end to end, from architecture through deployment, monitoring, and iteration on customer feedback. Along the way, make thoughtful tradeoffs between performance, reliability, operational simplicity, and developer experience.
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 3+ years building and operating distributed systems, backend infrastructure, or large-scale APIs where reliability, latency, and scale are first-class concerns.
- A proven track record of owning low-latency, reliable backend services, including rate limiting, auth, quotas, metering, and migrations.
- Infrastructure instincts with a feel for performance: profiling, tracing, capacity planning, and SLO management.
- Comfort debugging performance and reliability issues across multiple layers of the stack, from application behavior down to runtime and infrastructure internals.
- A strong sense of developer experience. You think about how systems are used, not just how they work.
- Eagerness to learn new languages, frameworks, and systems, and a real interest in inference engineering. Prior ML or LLM experience isn't required, though experience with model serving or inference systems is a plus.
- Excellent written communication and collaboration skills, including writing clear design docs and working across functions.
NICE TO HAVE
- Experience with or contributions to LLM inference engines and frameworks such as vLLM, SGLang, TensorRT-LLM, TGI, or Dynamo.
- Deep Kubernetes experience, including operators and custom resources, plus familiarity with service meshes or API gateways.
- Experience with distributed scheduling, autoscaling, or service orchestration.
- Experience operating GPU workloads in production.
- A background in developer-facing infrastructure or APIs, or contributions to open-source infrastructure or ML systems.
- Familiarity with observability tooling, CI/CD systems, or release automation.
BENEFITS
- Competitive compensation, including meaningful equity
- (U.S. only) 100% coverage of medical, dental, and vision insurance for employee and dependents
- Flexible PTO policy including company wide Winter Break (our offices are closed from Christmas Eve to New Year's Day!)
- Paid parental leave
- Fertility and family-building stipend through Carrot
- (U.S. only) Company-facilitated 401(k)
- Exposure to a variety of ML startups, offering unparalleled learning and networking opportunities.
Apply now to embark on a rewarding journey in shaping the future of AI! If you are a motivated individual with a passion for machine learning and a desire to be part of a collaborative and forward-thinking team, we would love to hear from you.
At Baseten, we are committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace. We provide equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants without regard to race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, age, genetic information, disability, or veteran status.
We are an Equal Opportunity Employer and will consider qualified applicants with criminal histories in a manner consistent with applicable law (by example, the requirements of the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance, where applicable).

ABOUT US:
AI NEEDS A NEW INFRASTRUCTURE LAYER. WE'RE BUILDING IT AT MODAL.
Every era of computing brought new workloads that previous infrastructure couldn't support: mainframes, databases, and the cloud. Each time, the company that rebuilt the layer underneath defined the decade. AI is no different, except it touches everything instead of one slice, and the window to build the layer underneath it is open right now.
Our customers include category-defining companies like Ramp https://modal.com/blog/how-ramp-built-a-full-context-background-coding-agent-on-modal, Cognition, DoorDash, and Suno. They rely on Modal for instant GPU access, sub-second container starts, and native storage, so it's simple to serve low-latency inference, fine-tune models, and access production-ready sandboxes at scale.
We've passed $1B in annualized run rate, up 15x from a year ago. In October 2026 we raised a $750M Series D led by Accel at a $15.75B valuation.
Our team includes creators of popular open-source projects (e.g.,Seaborn https://github.com/mwaskom/seaborn,Luigi https://github.com/spotify/luigi), academic researchers, international olympiad medalists, and experienced engineering and product leaders with decades of experience.
THE ROLE:
We're hiring a Field Marketing Manager in San Francisco to build and run the programs that turn Modal's target accounts into active customers. You'll work closely with our Sales team to plan regional campaigns, run events for the engineers and technical leaders we sell to, and report on how those programs contribute to pipeline and revenue. This is a hands-on role for someone who has run account-based field programs at a technical company and wants to help shape the function as it grows.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
- Act as a strategic partner to Sales, aligning field programs with sales priorities and helping AEs create and accelerate pipeline in their territories.
- Develop and execute account-based programs for named accounts, working with Sales to identify key stakeholders and the right mix of touchpoints for each.
- Decide which industry conferences and sponsorships are worth investing in. Own what we bring, who we send, and whether we go back next year.
- Plan and host high-touch 1:1 and 1:few events for prospects and customers, such as executive dinners, roundtables, and technical workshops, in partnership with AEs.
- Own pre-event and post-event execution, including targeted invitations, meeting booking, and timely follow-up with Sales.
- Build co-marketing programs with VCs, accelerators, and ecosystem partners to reach their portfolio companies and customers.
- Track and report on program performance, including meetings booked, account engagement, and sourced and influenced pipeline, and use the results to plan future investment.
- Own the VIP experience at Modal's flagship events, including our annual conference, Runtime.
- Build repeatable processes and playbooks as the team grows.
REQUIREMENTS:
- A track record running field programs at a technical company. You can point to specific ones and clear outcomes.
- You've worked directly with AEs and you're happy sharing a number with them.
- Good judgment about where to spend. A lot of sponsorships look better than they perform, and you can tell which is which. Experience in AI or developer tools helps here.
- Organized and self-directed. This role runs many events, partners, and vendors at once.
- Experience producing events across a range of formats, from small executive dinners to large conference sponsorships and brand events.
- Strong attention to detail and a high bar for taste and the quality of every event and touchpoint.
- Comfort with data and reporting, including CRM, attribution, and pipeline analysis.
- Familiarity with ABM, intent data, and marketing automation tools.
- Experience building AI into marketing workflows, such as account research, audience development, event operations, and reporting.
NICE-TO-HAVE:
- Experience at an AI, developer tools, or cloud infrastructure company.
- Experience marketing to technical audiences such as engineers, ML teams, and technical executives.
- Experience bridging product-led and sales-assisted growth.
- Existing relationships with Bay Area VCs, accelerators, or AI communities.

ABOUT US
At LangChain, our mission is to make intelligent agents ubiquitous. We build the foundation for agent engineering in the real world, helping developers move from prototypes to production-ready AI agents that teams can rely on. We began as widely adopted open-source tools and have grown to also offer a platform for building, evaluating, deploying, and operating agents at scale.
With $125M raised at Series B from IVP, Sequoia, Benchmark, CapitalG, and Sapphire Ventures, we’re at a stage where we’re continuing to develop new products, growth is accelerating, and all team members have meaningful impact on what we build and how we work together. LangChain is a place where your contributions can shape how this technology shows up in the real world.
Today, our platform includes LangSmith (Observability, Evaluation, Deployment, Fleet, and Sandboxes), our open source frameworks (LangChain, LangGraph, and Deep Agents), and the newly launched LangSmith Engine for autonomous agent improvement. We have 100M+ monthly open source downloads, 6,000+ active LangSmith customers, and 5 of the Fortune 10 use LangSmith in production (+ 35% of the Fortune 500 overall), including teams at Klarna, Clay, Coinbase, Workday, Lyft, Cloudflare, Harvey, Rippling, Vanta, LinkedIn, Monday.com, Nvidia, and Bridgewater.
About the team
SmithDB is LangChain's internal database team. We're building a storage and query layer purpose-built for AI observability and evaluation. Within six months we went from idea to a production system that offers industry leading performance and scalability for agent observability data. We're a small, fast team of systems engineers tackling genuinely hard problems: storage layout, query execution, compaction, and scaling toward trillions of agent traces. We develop in Rust, run on Kubernetes, and integrate tightly with S3/GCS/Azure Blob. There are no legacy constraints; this is a greenfield system with real production load and ambitious engineering goals.
About the role
We're looking for a hands-on Engineering Manager to lead the SmithDB team. This is not a pure people-management role. You'll write production code, review PRs at the systems level, make architectural calls, and be in the weeds alongside your engineers. At the same time, you'll own team health, hiring, technical roadmap, and coordination with the broader LangSmith platform. The ideal candidate has deep systems or database engineering experience and genuinely prefers to stay technical while growing a team.
What you'll do
- Write and review production Rust code across ingestion, query execution, and storage layers
- Lead architectural decisions on storage format, compaction, indexing, and query planning
- Drive performance investigations using memory and CPU profiling tools; own the path from profiling to shipped fix
- Design and harden the distributed deployment of SmithDB services on Kubernetes (multi-tenant, high-throughput, low-latency)
- Contribute to cloud object store integrations (S3, GCS, Azure Blob) and set the standard for how SmithDB manages data at rest and in flight
- Build and maintain observability for the engine itself: metrics, tracing, debug tooling
- Manage a small but growing team of systems engineers: set goals, run 1:1s, provide technical mentorship, and grow careers
- Own the SmithDB technical roadmap in partnership with LangSmith product and engineering leadership
- Communicate progress, risks, and tradeoffs clearly to the broader organization: you write concise, decision-ready updates
What you'll bring
- 7+ years in systems or database engineering, with at least 2 years in a technical lead or engineering management role
- Production Rust experience — you can write it, review it, and have opinions on how to structure it at scale
- Deep understanding of database or storage engine internals: query execution, storage layouts, indexing, compaction
- Proficiency in systems performance analysis: memory allocators, CPU hotspots, lock contention, async runtimes (Tokio)
- Experience deploying and operating distributed services on Kubernetes in a production, multi-tenant environment
- Familiarity with cloud object storage (S3-compatible APIs, consistency models, cost/performance tradeoffs)
- Proven track record of managing engineers — you can recruit, retain, and level-up a team without losing your technical edge
Nice-to-have:
- Experience building or contributing to columnar storage formats (Parquet, Arrow), OLAP query engines, or time-series stores
- Background in observability infrastructure or tracing pipelines (OpenTelemetry, ClickHouse, Prometheus)
- Experience scaling a system from early-stage to hundreds of billions / trillions of records
Compensation
Salary Range: $240,000-$300,000 USD
Compensation Philosophy:
We offer competitive compensation that includes base salary, variable compensation for relevant roles, meaningful equity, benefits, and perks.
We are hiring for this role across a range of scope, and the compensation band reflects that. Your offer depends on what we learn about your impact, craft, leadership, and communication during the interview process. We will tell you early where you’re tracking and talk comp with you before offer stage. Team members in the EU, UK, and APAC receive locally competitive benefits aligned with regional norms and regulations.
BENEFITS
Benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage, flexible vacation, a 401(k) plan, meals on in-office days in the US and more.

About the Team
Cloud Onboarding Architects work alongside Customer Onboarding Managers, Technical Instructors, Resident Solutions Architects within Professional Services. This team ensures that every new managed enterprise customer has a fully configured dbt platform account and is confident using it.
Guided Setup is often a customer’s first hands-on experience with dbt. The team sits at the intersection of technical implementation, customer experience, and product feedback; helping customers navigate the complexity of their data, identity, security, and development environments while ensuring they are set up for long-term success.
About the Role
The Cloud Onboarding Architect Lead is the technical leader for Guided Setup across our dbt enterprise customer base. You’ll own the most complex and highest-visibility setup engagements while also helping define how the entire team delivers setup at scale.
This role combines hands-on technical delivery with technical leadership. You’ll be the person other Cloud Onboarding Architects turn to when a customer has an unusual architecture, an implementation has stalled, or the existing playbook doesn’t quite fit. You’ll also work across Professional Services, Engineering, Product, and Design to turn those individual challenges into better processes, documentation, and product experiences for everyone.
This is a role for someone who enjoys being both deep in the technical details and responsible for the bigger picture.
Technologies You’ll Use
Modern Data Warehouses (Snowflake / Databricks / BigQuery / Redshift), Repositories (GitHub / GitLab / Azure DevOps), Identity Providers (Okta / Entra ID / Google), PrivateLink / Private Service Connect, AWS, Azure, GCP, SQL, SSO, OAuth, Rocketlane
What You’ll Do
Own complex and escalated setup engagements
Lead Guided Setup for our most technically complex, strategically important, and highest-visibility enterprise accounts across all four milestones: data warehouse/repository configuration, SSO, RBAC/SCIM, and user access
Serve as the senior technical escalation point when setup issues threaten onboarding timelines or customer activation, including complex PrivateLink, OAuth, SSO, networking, and identity scenarios
Work directly with customer technical stakeholders and administrators to understand their environment, identify risks, and guide them toward a successful configuration
Anticipate technical blockers early and create clear plans to resolve them before they impact the broader onboarding program
Make sound scoping decisions about what belongs in Guided Setup versus Customer Solutions Engineering, Product, or post-onboarding work
Ensure complex engagements maintain the same high bar for customer experience, documentation, and technical quality as standard setups
Raise the bar for the team
Act as a technical mentor and coach for Cloud Onboarding Architect I/IIs, helping them develop their troubleshooting, platform expertise, and customer-facing skills
Serve as a thought partner for COAs working through technically challenging or ambiguous customer situations
Own and continuously improve the Guided Setup checklist, playbooks, kickoff materials, troubleshooting guidance, and internal documentation
Identify patterns across customer engagements and turn those patterns into repeatable processes, tooling, documentation, or product feedback
Identify recurring setup blockers and drive them toward resolution, whether the underlying fix is a documentation update, process change, enablement opportunity, or product improvement
Help establish and maintain consistent standards for setup quality across the team
Represent setup cross-functionally
Be the primary point of contact into Engineering, Product & Design for setup-related bugs, feature requests, and onboarding UX feedback
Work with Customer Solutions Engineering on the setup/support boundary and on customers struggling to reach utilization post-onboarding
Collaborate with Training on on-demand content for the setup steps that create the most friction for new customers
Contribute setup expertise to Engineering team (EPD/Transport) conversations on PrivateLink and network architecture
Bring the voice of enterprise customers into internal discussions about product usability, administration, security, and onboarding
Use data, customer feedback, and experience from individual engagements to identify opportunities to improve setup time and activation readiness
Skills We’re Looking For
