BUILDING THE FUTURE OF OPEN FINANCE
Payward - the parent company behind Kraken, NinjaTrader, Breakout, xStocks, Payward Services and CF Benchmarks - has spent the last 15 years building one of the most modern and globally accessible financial infrastructure platforms in the industry, built to advance an open, global financial system.
THE TEAM
Founded in 2011, Kraken is one of the world's longest-standing crypto platforms, trusted by over 10 million individuals and institutions across the globe. It offers spot trading, margin, futures, staking, and OTC services, with products built for both individual investors and institutional clients.
The Consumer team owns the Kraken app experience used by millions of traders and crypto newcomers worldwide, the product that turns someone's first crypto curiosity into a long-term relationship with Kraken. We build the interfaces people actually use to buy, sell, manage their portfolio, and interact with their assets. Our stack is React on web and React Native on mobile, and we ship fast, measure everything, and iterate based on real user behaviour. We work agile, globally distributed, and we care as much about why we build something as how we build it.
We're looking for a world-class Senior Frontend Engineer to join our product-minded engineering team: we care about customer problems, measurable outcomes, frontend craft, and fast iteration. We work across web and mobile surfaces, partner closely with Product, Design, Data, and Platform teams, and use experimentation, observability, and user behaviour to guide what we build next.
THE OPPORTUNITY
- Design, develop, and maintain high-quality consumer-facing features across web (React) and mobile (React Native), owning the full experience from concept to production monitoring.
- Own the full lifecycle of product work, from discovery and technical design through release, monitoring, experimentation, and iteration.
- Drive A/B testing and experimentation strategies forming hypotheses, designing experiments, analysing results, and iterating based on data.
- Partner with Product, Design, Data, and Mobile engineers to create coherent experiences across Kraken’s consumer surfaces.
- Make opinionated technical decisions on framework and architecture choices (we want engineers who have strong views on things like TanStack Router vs Next.js App Router and can back them up with real experience).
- Set the standard for high-quality code — functional correctness, accessibility, performance, and testability are non-negotiables.
- Mentor engineers across seniority levels and contribute to a culture of craft and continuous improvement.
- Lead and collaborate on complex cross-platform initiatives, driving alignment across web and mobile surfaces.
- Stay ahead of the curve on React ecosystem tooling, React Server Components, concurrent features, streaming, and bring those insights back to the team.
- Work AI-natively, we use AI tools across the full SDLC and expect engineers to have a structured, opinionated workflow, not just autocomplete.
WHAT YOU BRING
- 6+ years of professional software development experience with a strong focus on consumer-facing web and/or mobile products.
- Deep expertise in TypeScript and the React ecosystem, you have opinions about state management, data fetching patterns, and component architecture, and you can articulate the trade-offs.
- Production experience with React Native and cross-platform mobile development, including App Store and Google Play release pipelines.
- Experience with Next.js — specifically familiarity with App Router, React Server Components, and the client/server boundary decisions that come with them.
- Hands-on experience with A/B testing, feature flags, and experimentation frameworks (LaunchDarkly, Optimizely, or similar).
- Experience with WebSockets or Server-Sent Events for real-time UI updates.
- Strong testing culture Jest, React Testing Library, Playwright or Cypress, and the judgement to know when to use each.
- Familiarity with modern build tooling (Vite, Webpack, CI/CD pipelines) and performance profiling.
- Experience in fintech, crypto, payments, or other high-trust consumer products where correctness and user confidence matter.
- Strong written and verbal English, you can write a clear RFC, give direct feedback in a PR review, and explain a technical trade-off to a non-technical stakeholder.
- An active AI-assisted development workflow, Cursor, Claude Code, Copilot, or equivalent with the engineering rigour to review and own what gets produced.
Unless a specific application deadline is stated in the job posting, applications are accepted on an ongoing basis.
Please note, applicants are permitted to redact or remove information on their resume that identifies age, date of birth, or dates of attendance at or graduation from an educational institution.
We consider qualified applicants with criminal histories for employment on our team, assessing candidates in a manner consistent with the requirements of the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance.
OUR COMMITMENT
Payward is powered by people from around the world and we celebrate the diverse talents, backgrounds, contributions, and unique perspectives that everyone brings to the table. We hire based on merit, seeking out people with the right abilities, knowledge, and skills for the job. We encourage you to apply for roles where you don't fully meet the listed requirements, especially if you're passionate or knowledgeable about crypto.
We may ask candidates to complete job-related skills or work-style assessments as part of our hiring process. These assessments evaluate competencies relevant to the role and are applied consistently across candidates for similar positions. Results are considered alongside experience and interviews, and are not the sole basis for any employment decision.
As an equal opportunity employer, we don't tolerate discrimination or harassment of any kind, whether based on race, ethnicity, age, gender identity, citizenship, religion, sexual orientation, disability, pregnancy, veteran status, or any other protected characteristic as outlined by federal, state, or local laws.

Our Strategic & Leadership Hiring team leads Director, Senior Director, VP and C-suite hiring across functions and global locations. We’re looking for an experienced, research-led recruiter to deliver the market insight, candidate engagement and initial assessment behind these business-critical searches. You’ll own research, sourcing and screening for assigned roles, turning complex briefs into thorough talent maps and credible shortlists. This is a hands-on opportunity to take ownership, work closely with senior stakeholders and help shape Checkout.com http://Checkout.com’s leadership teams.
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
- Turn role briefs into focused search plans. Build thorough company and talent maps, understanding organisational structures, role scope and transferable experience to identify strong candidates beyond the obvious talent pools.
- Write tailored outreach that gives senior, passive candidates a compelling reason to engage. Build rapport, communicate the opportunity credibly and sustain interest through thoughtful follow-up.
- Lead substantive screening conversations to explore expertise, achievements, leadership behaviours and motivation. Make evidence-based recommendations, highlighting strengths, gaps and areas for further assessment.
- Keep multiple searches moving. Get up to speed quickly on unfamiliar roles and markets, prioritise effectively and adapt your approach when feedback or results point to a better route.
- Build trusted relationships with candidates and stakeholders through responsive communication, discretion and clear expectations. Share concise search updates, candidate summaries and useful market intelligence.
- Maintain accurate candidate intelligence, market maps and applicant tracking system records. Stay on top of commitments and next steps, and flag search risks early.
- Use research platforms, market intelligence and AI tools to improve search speed and quality, checking accuracy and protecting confidential information.
WHAT WE LOOK FOR
- Recruitment experience with substantial hands-on responsibility for research, sourcing and candidate screening, and a track record of building strong pipelines for senior or specialist roles.
- Thorough market-mapping skills. You can build a clear picture of a talent market, identify relevant organisations and people, and explain the reasoning behind your recommendations.
- Compelling written and verbal communication. You create personalised outreach, engage senior candidates and ask thoughtful, probing questions.
- Sound judgement across functional expertise, interpersonal skills and leadership behaviours. You distinguish demonstrated capability from polished presentation and recognise where more evidence is needed.
- High attention to detail and reliable follow-through. Your candidate notes, research, written updates and records are accurate, organised and handled with discretion.
- Pace, resilience and adaptability. You learn new briefs quickly, balance competing priorities and respond to unanswered outreach, candidate declines and changing requirements with practical alternatives.
- A collaborative, low-ego approach. You take ownership, welcome feedback, share insights and ask for help early when needed.
NICE TO HAVES
- Executive search or search-firm research experience, particularly on confidential leadership appointments.
- Experience sourcing across fintech, payments or technology, and using AI or market-intelligence tools to strengthen research and outreach.
WHY JOIN
You’ll take ownership of meaningful search work, partner with senior decision-makers and build deep knowledge of leadership talent across functions and markets. Your research and judgement will help Checkout.com http://Checkout.com make better-informed leadership hiring decisions.

THE TEAM
Payward Services is an enterprise infrastructure platform that enables companies to seamlessly integrate trading, payments, funding, and digital asset services through a single unified system. It provides coordinated liquidity, custody, compliance, risk management, and settlement capabilities, reducing operational complexity for fintechs, banks, brokerages, and payment providers.
Payward’s Payments & Blockchain team builds the capabilities that move money into and out of its products, connecting banking partners, payment providers and local rails for millions of users.
We’re building a peer-to-peer marketplace for Asia-Pacific that lets users buy and sell digital assets directly with each other using familiar local payment methods. Payward will provide the marketplace infrastructure, merchant network, escrow, transaction management, and trust and safety capabilities.
We’re looking for an experienced product leader who has launched crypto P2P in APAC and can turn that expertise into a shared platform serving multiple Payward products.
THE OPPORTUNITY
- Strategy and market expansion: Set the P2P vision, business objectives and roadmap. Prioritize markets, customer segments and payment methods based on demand, competitive conditions, economics and regulatory requirements.
- Merchant network and liquidity: Develop the merchant acquisition, onboarding, incentives and retention strategy. Work with commercial and local teams to build dependable liquidity, competitive pricing and coverage across relevant payment methods.
- Marketplace economics: Define fee structures and incentive programs. Set commercial targets and improve revenue, transaction costs and contribution margin with finance and commercial partners.
- Core P2P capabilities: Lead product development across matching, escrow, order management, payment confirmation, transaction limits, merchant controls and dispute handling.
- Platform adoption: Build reusable capabilities and integration requirements that allow multiple Payward products to offer P2P. Make the platform straightforward to integrate, operate and extend into new markets.
- Buyer, seller and merchant requirements: Define transaction workflows, exception handling and acceptance criteria. Bring customer research and marketplace expertise into interface decisions, and use transaction data to identify friction and improve completion.
- Trust and marketplace integrity: Partner with risk, compliance, legal and operations to build merchant verification, fraud prevention, dispute resolution and appeals into the product from the outset.
- Launch and operating performance: Lead cross-functional launch planning and establish the processes needed to run each market. Track liquidity, order completion, time to trade, repeat usage, dispute rates, fraud losses and platform reliability.
- Product leadership: Align senior stakeholders around priorities and tradeoffs, work closely with engineering on system capabilities, and develop product talent as the platform scales. Apply proven P2P playbooks and move quickly from decisions to live transactions.
WHAT YOU BRING
- A demonstrated record of launching and scaling a crypto P2P marketplace in APAC, ideally including a launch from zero.
- Senior product leadership experience with responsibility for strategy, roadmaps and measurable commercial outcomes.
- Deep understanding of merchant operations, two-sided liquidity, pricing, incentives and the economics of P2P trading.
- Practical knowledge of APAC payment methods, local banking and wallet ecosystems, and how customer behavior differs across markets.
- Experience building shared platform capabilities used by multiple products, channels or external partners.
- Strong judgment about fraud, payment verification, transaction disputes and the operational realities of running a financial marketplace.
- Technical fluency across APIs, transaction lifecycles, payment integrations and reliable financial systems.
- The ability to influence senior stakeholders and lead through partnerships with engineering, interface product teams, operations, risk and commercial teams.
NICE TO HAVES
- Experience expanding P2P across several APAC markets.
- Experience with stablecoins and local fiat on/off-ramps.
- Experience building and leading product teams.
- Fluency in one or more APAC languages.

Kraken's engineers build a lot of software. Developer Platform AI builds the AI systems they use to do it: agents that write and review code, simple access to the best models in the tools they already use, and the infrastructure that connects AI to our internal systems.
This is a small team with a lot of reach. The tools you ship will change how engineers across Kraken work every day, and you'll see that happen directly. The work spans agent platforms, code review, LLM routing and cost controls, MCP integrations with tools like Slack, Jira and GitLab, and the security and observability that make all of it safe to run.
If you want to work on applied AI with real users from day one, this is that job.
THE OPPORTUNITY
- LLM traffic doesn't behave like normal API traffic. Requests are long-running, streaming and expensive. One prompt can cost a few cents or a few dollars. One team's burst can burn another team's budget. Providers change their rate limits, failure modes and pricing without warning. Running this well is a problem few companies have solved, and it's the job.
- Own the reliability of the platform engineers depend on: the AI Gateway, the agent runtime and the connections to internal tools. Set the SLOs, own the error budgets and decide what happens when they're spent.
- Design resilience across model providers: routing, failover, retries, rate limiting and graceful degradation when a provider is slow, throttling or down.
- Make LLM traffic legible. Build observability that shows latency, errors, token usage and cost by team, model and use case, so engineers can see what their workloads cost and where they're spending their time waiting.
- Treat capacity and cost as one problem. Routing decisions affect both latency and spend, and you'll own the tradeoff directly.
- Work with Security, Finance and AI governance to put access controls, budgets, audit logging and data handling into the platform, not into a spreadsheet next to it.
- Lead incident response and blameless post-incident reviews. Turn what breaks into fixes that stay fixed.
- Automate operations with infrastructure as code, safe deployments and progressive rollouts, so the platform gets more reliable as it grows rather than more fragile.
- Mentor engineers and raise the operating standard across the team.
This is a Staff role. You'll set the technical direction for how the platform runs, not just keep it running. The platform is small enough that your decisions shape it directly, and used broadly enough that they affect every engineering team at Kraken.
SKILLS YOU SHOULD HODL
- Extensive experience in site reliability, infrastructure or platform engineering, with a track record of owning high-traffic, business-critical services in production
- Deep hands-on experience with Kubernetes, a major cloud provider and infrastructure as code such as Terraform
- Strong command of SLOs, observability and incident management, and the judgment to know which reliability work actually matters
- Proficiency in Rust or Python, and comfort reading and changing a production service's code
- Experience with API gateways, reverse proxies or traffic management: load balancing, rate limiting, failover and caching
- Experience operating multi-tenant internal platforms, including authentication, authorization and per-tenant cost controls
- Staff-level influence: you set direction across teams, write clear design documents and bring other engineers with you
NICE TO HAVES
- Experience operating LLM gateways or integrating LLM provider APIs at scale: streaming, token-based rate limiting, model routing and caching
- Experience serving models yourself, including vLLM or Ray: GPU scheduling, batching, autoscaling and cost per token
- Experience building Kubernetes controllers or operators with controller-runtime or kubebuilder
- Experience with Consul and Vault for service discovery, configuration and secrets
- Experience with model evaluation pipelines for catching quality regressions before and after rollout
- Familiarity with coding agents and agent harnesses, and running them safely in sandboxed environments
- Experience with cost attribution, budgeting or FinOps for usage-based services
- Background in security-sensitive or regulated environments such as financial services or crypto
- Contributions to open-source gateway, proxy or observability projects
