Demonstrate sound engineering principles and directly contribute toward your team’s goals
Set and manage expectations with other engineering teams, management, and external stakeholders

Metabase is the easiest way for people to get insights from their data, from tiny startups who get up and running quickly to major corporations with tens of thousands of users. That's why people love us.
We bring data tools with the elegance and simplicity of consumer products to the crufty world of enterprise business intelligence. We provide an opinionated open source starting point for how companies should measure, analyze and share their data, which is used by tens of thousands of companies.
We built Metabase because existing tools for business intelligence didn’t feel like things we wanted to use. We wanted faster, simpler ways to ask questions about data, and wanted to strip away the colder feel of most Enterprise software. Folks seemed to agree, and now Metabase is used daily by tens of thousands of companies to give people in all sorts of roles access to insights they wouldn’t have otherwise had. None of this could happen without our user interface and that’s where you come in. We’re looking for someone with strong product sensibilities, extraordinarily good frontend skills, and solid software engineering fundamentals to join our team to advance the state of the art in our product and our industry.
We are hiring for multiple Engineering Manager positions.
You Will
Directly manage a team of engineers and help them ship features that delight Metabase users.
Work closely with Product, Design, and Success teams to plan and execute on the product roadmap, balancing feature development, tech improvements and bug fixes.
Coach individuals, tune processes, remove obstacles, and optimize the environment to continuously increase the speed of iteration.
Be technical, deeply understand the problems the team is solving and make decisions within that context.
Hire, onboard, and nurture top-level engineering IC talent.
Skills and Experience
Strong written and verbal communication, with a bias to written communication to support async processes in a fully remote and distributed team.
2+ years of engineering management experience or equivalent (you can demonstrate skill at key aspects of building and improving an engineering team, and supporting and developing people's careers).
Ability to debug project execution to identify issues and changes to one or more of people, process, and project scope.
Strong product sensibilities - you can critically navigate product proposal docs and Figma designs and translate them to engineering requirements that span the Metabase product stack, and identify and mitigate risks to building them.
Strong technical background in one of: Clojure or Frontend (React + Typescript) ecosystems.
Main attributes we look for in candidates
Outcome focused, with the ability to ship code by removing obstacles and making decisions.
Highly technical - can fluently read code, tech design docs, can engage in technical discussions that make the technical artifacts better, can provide constructive technical feedback, and is very close to the implementation details
Use their technical understanding to make decisions regarding project execution and delivery.
Problem decomposition to reduce risk, increase surface area for feedback and to be able to continuously adjust plans taking reality into account.
Ability to coach and grow engineers, especially in a low structure environment without formal titles and well-defined career ladders.
Why should you consider Metabase
We're relentlessly user-focused and believe in building long-term value, not short-term hacks. And we raised a $30M Series B to take our approach to the next level for years to come.
We are
open source
and you can check out the code to see what exactly we do. Look at
our roadmap
to see what we plan to build next!
The problems we face are genuinely interesting and aren’t trivial. Data influences so much of our world but isn’t that easy to interact with or understand. You’ll make tools that people rely on for their real jobs.
The business is growing and so is the company!
We're a fully remote global team (in 30 countries and growing). We get things done asynchronously with plenty of uninterrupted time and supporting each other to do the best work of our careers.
We offer flexibility (define your own schedule and work from wherever you want), autonomy, and an environment that helps you grow.
Compensation
The US base salary range for this role is $200K–$250K annually, plus equity and benefits.
Compensation is determined by role, level, location, and individual qualifications, including skills, experience, and scope of responsibility. Pay may vary by geographic location and other job-related factors.
Benefits
We offer meaningful equity and a comprehensive US benefits package, including fully employer-covered medical, dental, and vision insurance (with 75% coverage for dependents), a 401(k) with employer match available to enroll after the first 30 days, flexible and unlimited paid time off including sick time, and an asynchronous, remote-first environment.

Our Business Development Managers build long-term relationships with financial institutions and public sector organizations to help them prevent and investigate financial crime and address risk and compliance challenges. You’ll work with leading Japanese banks, securities firms, and other financial institutions to connect their business priorities with Chainalysis solutions across financial crime threat intelligence, anti-money laundering (AML), compliance, investigations, fraud prevention, and security.
This role focuses on a select group of priority institutions, building on existing relationships and opportunities rather than starting solely through outbound prospecting. You’ll help customers evaluate how Chainalysis can support their current needs and the responsible development of on-chain finance, including tokenized assets, digital payments, and custody services. While financial institutions are the primary focus, you’ll also support selected public sector opportunities where your expertise can help the Japan team address financial crime, compliance, and investigative needs.
You’ll work alongside Account Executives and specialists across Chainalysis to develop long-term account strategies, prepare proposals, and support customer evaluation, internal approvals, procurement, and implementation planning. Success means advancing strategic opportunities, expanding customer adoption, and contributing to the Japan team’s commercial results.
We are looking for a Business Development Manager to join our Japan team, reporting to the Country Manager, Japan. This is an individual contributor role with no people management responsibilities.
IN THIS ROLE, YOU'LL
- Develop and execute strategic business development plans for priority Japanese banks and financial institutions, building on existing relationships and opportunities.
- Build trusted relationships with executives and stakeholders across business strategy, financial crime, AML, compliance, risk, technology, and operations.
- Understand customers’ business plans, regulatory requirements, and onchain finance strategies, and translate their needs into clear proposals and practical roadmaps.
- Partner with Account Executives to advance strategic opportunities and support customers through evaluation, internal approvals, procurement, and contract execution.
- Help customer stakeholders evaluate options, build internal consensus, and reach informed decisions.
- Develop proposals that connect Chainalysis solutions across compliance, investigations, fraud prevention, security, and visibility into fund flows.
- Work with Solutions Architecture, Product, Global Services, Marketing, and Government Affairs to develop customer use cases, proof of value success criteria, and implementation plans.
- Collaborate with systems integrators and other partners on joint proposals, co-selling, solution integration, implementation, and customer training.
- Identify opportunities to expand Chainalysis adoption across customer business units, subsidiaries, and services as their needs grow.
- Work with Government Affairs to understand regulatory developments and support appropriate dialogue with regulators and industry associations.
- Partner with Account Executives and technical specialists to develop proposals and advance selected opportunities with regulators, government agencies, and law enforcement, supporting customer evaluation, procurement, and contract execution.
- Share customer and market insights with the Japan team to strengthen positioning, prioritize opportunities, and support commercial planning.
WE'RE LOOKING FOR CANDIDATES WHO HAVE
- Experience working with major Japanese financial institutions in business development, strategic account management, consulting, technology sales, or business transformation.
- A track record of building trusted relationships with executives and business leaders and helping stakeholders reach informed decisions.
- Experience advancing strategic opportunities involving multiple stakeholders, long buying cycles, and enterprise procurement processes.
- The ability to understand business, operational, regulatory, and risk challenges and translate them into practical proposals and customer outcomes.
- A strong understanding of Japanese financial services industry dynamics, internal approval processes, and budget cycles.
- Experience collaborating with sales teams and technical specialists to develop opportunities and deliver commercial results.
- Strong business communication and presentation skills in Japanese, with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly to executive audiences.
- The ability to collaborate with global colleagues in English.
- An interest in on-chain finance and a willingness to learn about emerging financial technologies, relevant regulation, and Chainalysis solutions. Prior blockchain expertise is not required.
- The ability to work independently, prioritize strategic opportunities, and bring colleagues and partners together around shared customer priorities.
NICE TO HAVE
- Experience in banking, securities, trust banking, payments, or another financial institution before moving into consulting, business development, or technology sales.
- Experience with financial crime threat intelligence, AML/CFT, KYC, sanctions, fraud prevention, transaction monitoring, investigations, or risk management.
- Experience selling or advising on enterprise software, data, RegTech, FinTech, or cybersecurity solutions.
- Experience partnering with systems integrators on joint proposals, co-selling, integration, implementation, or embedding technology into customer services.
- Familiarity with stablecoins, tokenized deposits, tokenized assets, digital securities, custody, or onchain and cross-border payments.
- Experience working with Japanese public sector organizations, including an understanding of their decision-making, procurement, and budget processes.
- Familiarity with structured enterprise sales methodologies such as MEDDPICC or Challenger.
- An established network of senior stakeholders across Japan’s financial services and technology sectors.
