You'll work with screenwriters, AI video creators, and editors, taking creative ownership from script review to the final finished episode. You won't need to write the scripts or generate every video yourself. Your role is to guide the creative execution, identify what needs improvement, and ensure every episode meets our standards. WHAT YOU'LL DO 1. Script Review & Creative Direction - Review season storylines and individual episode screenplays. - Evaluate storytelling, emotional impact, character motivations, hooks, and cliffhangers. - Approve scripts or provide specific, actionable feedback to screenwriters. - Add directing instructions only when necessary. If the script is already strong and production-ready, approve it without unnecessary changes. 2. About the role We are seeking a Financial Controller to take full ownership of VALD's day to day finance function across all group entities. You will join a strong, capable finance team already in place, and your role is to manage, mentor and empower them to take the function to the next level. You will oversee the monthly close, consolidation, audit, tax compliance, treasury and transactional finance. This is a hands on leadership role in a fast growing, multi-entity, multi-currency SAAS business. You will coach the team, build their technical and commercial capability, and create the structure, processes and controls that let them scale with the business. You will also own the control environment and act as the first point of contact for finance matters across the business. Success means a confident, high performing team delivering accurate, on time numbers that the executive team trusts, with minimal escalation. The ideal candidate is a technically strong CA/CPA with an audit background and several years in an industry controller or senior finance role, ideally in technology or subscription businesses. You will have a genuine track record of developing people and raising a team's performance. Experience with NetSuite, mergers and acquisitions, international tax and multi-jurisdiction groups is highly regarded. You will be a team player with a can do attitude, comfortable moving between hands on tasks, detailed review and big picture process design. What will you do? Finance operations and month-end close • Own the monthly, quarterly and annual close across all group entities, delivering to an agreed close calendar. • Oversee multi-entity consolidation, intercompany reconciliations and eliminations, and foreign currency translation. • Ensure balance sheet reconciliations are completed, reviewed and supported each month. • Own revenue accounting for bundled hardware and subscription contracts (AASB 15 / ASC 606), including deferred revenue and billing integrity. • Deliver monthly management reporting packs. Transactional finance and treasury • Oversee accounts payable, expense management and payroll across jurisdictions. • Manage daily cash, bank relationships, cash flow forecasting and FX exposure. • Maintain banking facilities, covenant monitoring and lender reporting. Financial reporting, audit and compliance • Review statutory financial statements under AASBs and US GAAP. • Ensure statutory and local entity filings are lodged on time. • Review technical accounting positions, including business combinations, share-based payments. Tax • Oversee tax compliance across all jurisdictions: income tax, GST/VAT/sales tax, payroll taxes and R&D tax incentive claims. • Coordinate external tax advisors and maintain transfer pricing documentation and intercompany agreements. • Monitor sales tax nexus and indirect tax obligations as the business expands into new markets. Controls, systems and process improvement • Design, document and maintain a scalable internal control framework, including delegations of authority. • Act as finance system owner for NetSuite and connected tools, driving automation and ERP enhancements. • Integrate acquired businesses into VALD's finance processes, systems and reporting. • Continuously improve close efficiency, data quality and reporting turnaround. Team leadership and business partnering • Lead, coach and develop the finance team, setting clear priorities and standards. • Act as the day to day finance contact for the business, resolving queries without escalation. • Provide actuals, data and analysis to support budgeting, forecasting and strategic projects led by the Head of Finance. Skills, Experience and Competencies Technical skills and knowledge • Strong working knowledge of AASBs; US GAAP experience highly regarded. • Proven ownership of month end close and consolidation for a multi-entity, multi-currency group. • Solid understanding of revenue recognition for subscription arrangements. • Working knowledge of Australian and international tax compliance, including indirect taxes and R&D incentives. • Experience designing and operating internal controls in a growing business. To qualify for the role, there are some basic minimum requirements: • CA/CPA qualified (or equivalent). • 8+ years' experience, including at least 2 years in commercial roles. • Audit background (Big 4 or mid-tier) highly regarded. • Technology, SAAS or hardware enabled subscription experience an advantage. • Hands on NetSuite experience strongly preferred; system administration or implementation experience a bonus. • Exposure to acquisitions and post acquisition integration desirable.
