About Onedome
We're a UK fintech building high-throughput digital infrastructure for the mortgage and property space. Recently acquired Trussle. We're taking our platform to the next level: fully automated, self-healing, observable, and built to handle real traffic spikes (we have a TV launch coming up).
The role
You'll be our senior platform engineer. Not a traditional ops role. You'll treat infrastructure as a product, build the internal developer platform our engineers deploy through, and bring SRE discipline into the application tier when it's needed.
You won't have a platform team to lean on. You'll be building that capability. We know exactly what we need.
What you'll do
Own 5 AWS accounts across the organisation (QA, Prod, Infra, plus two others)
Architect and maintain infrastructure as code with Terraform. Replace the click-ops that's still around
Stand up CI/CD pipelines engineers actually want to use. Blue/green and canary where it makes sense
Run releases reliably and reduce key-person risk on the deploy process
Set up monitoring, alerting, and incident response so we catch issues before customers do. Define SLIs and SLOs that map to real user journeys
Lead incident response as the primary infra responder. Run blameless post-mortems
Patch and harden the platform. We're a fintech, this matters. IAM least privilege, secrets management, vulnerability scanning, MFA enforcement
Lead infrastructure work for the TV launch: traffic spikes, autoscaling, capacity planning, runbooks
Partner with backend engineers when production issues cross into the app tier. JVM tuning, connection pools, async patterns, memory leaks
Architect multi-region DR. Drive the platform toward self-healing
Optimise cost across DynamoDB, Lambda, and the wider AWS footprint
Set architectural guardrails with tech leads and SWEs. Mentor engineers as the platform capability grows
You must have
6+ years hands-on AWS in production (VPC, IAM, EC2/ECS/EKS, Lambda, S3, CloudFront, Route53, RDS, DynamoDB, SQS)
Production Terraform (Terragrunt a plus). Multi-environment state management
Production Kubernetes and Docker. EKS specifically
Strong CI/CD experience: GitHub Actions, GitLab, Jenkins, or ArgoCD. GitOps practices
Strong infrastructure security: IAM least privilege, secrets, patching, vulnerability scanning, MFA enforcement
Observability from scratch: CloudWatch, Datadog, Grafana, Prometheus, OpenTelemetry, or ELK
Solid backend competency in Java (Spring Boot), Python, or Node. Understanding of JVM, concurrency, async systems
Comfort being the senior infrastructure person. Self-directed, opinionated, disciplined about documentation
B2/C1 Level English
Nice to have
Fintech or other regulated industry experience
DynamoDB at scale (we run many tables with PITR and S3 exports, Lambda-driven daily incrementals)
AWS cost optimisation track record
Past experience as a first infrastructure hire at a small team
Building internal developer platforms or self-service tooling
AWS DevOps Pro, Solutions Architect Pro, or CKA
Service mesh experience (Istio, Linkerd) and DevSecOps practices
Firebase or GCP exposure (we have a small footprint there)
What you won't get from us
A platform team to lean on. You'll be building that capability
Click-ops everywhere. You'll be replacing what exists with IaC
Ambiguity about the work. We know exactly what we need
Working setup
UK working hours.
Fully remote across the EU
Tooling: Microsoft 365, Teams, Planner, Nuclino, GitHub
aws-vault with MFA enforcement on all accounts
Sustainable on-call rotation
Salary: $4,000 – $5,000 / month

An overview of this role
As a Staff Security Governance Engineer, you will be the individual contributor who owns how GitLab writes, maintains, communicates, and measures its security policies and standards. You will turn emerging regulations, including AI regulation, into clear requirements that engineering, product, and legal teams can act on, and you will use automation to keep governance lightweight and continuous rather than a point-in-time exercise. You will sit on the Security Governance team within Security Assurance and work closely with Security Compliance, Security Risk, and GRC Engineering. You will report to the Director, Customer Trust & Security Governance.
What you'll do
Policies and standards
Own the end-to-end lifecycle of GitLab's security policies, standards, procedures, and guidelines: drafting, stakeholder review, approval, publication, annual review, and retirement.
Define and run the exception management process, including risk-based approvals, expiry tracking, and trend reporting that shows where policies need to change.
Run policy attestation and investigate non-adherence.
Keep policies clear, practical, and aligned with how GitLab's engineering teams work in a DevSecOps environment.
Regulatory and framework alignment
Monitor emerging regulations and standards (e.g., EU AI Act, NIST AI RMF, ISO 42001, sector or regional requirements) and partner with Legal well ahead of compliance deadlines to assess impact and update policy.
Maintain mappings between our policies and frameworks such as SOC 2, ISO 27001, ISO 42001, FedRAMP, and NIST CSF, so requirements are written once and reused.
Measurement and assurance
Define KPIs for policy adherence and report trends to Security leadership.
Run targeted internal assessments of adherence and drive remediation to closure.
Support audit activities by coordinating evidence, testing, and remediation management.
Customer trust
Support customer questionnaires and customer meetings, and help turn recurring customer requests into better policies and self-service content.
Automation and AI
Identify and implement automation and AI-assisted workflows for policy management, evidence collection, control monitoring, and assessment work, in partnership with GRC Engineering.
Technical leadership
Act as a technical and program leader across Security, Product, Legal, and Engineering, influencing without direct authority.
Mentor other team members and help set the direction of the Security Governance roadmap.
What you'll bring
10+ years in security governance, GRC, or IT risk, with hands-on ownership of a policy and standards lifecycle and measurable outcomes, ideally at a global technology company.
Working knowledge of SOC 2, ISO 27001, ISO 42001, FedRAMP, and NIST CSF, including how to put them into practice, not only how to read them
Experience creating and maintaining an enterprise Information Security Management System (ISMS), ideally including hands on involvement in ISO 27001 certification or recertification.
Understanding of cloud, SaaS, and DevSecOps practices, and the ability to write policy that engineers will follow.
A risk-based mindset that balances compliance with real security risk.
Demonstrated use of automation or AI to reduce manual GRC work.
Strong written and verbal communication, including translating technical concepts for engineers, executives, auditors, and customers.
Experience collaborating with Security, Product, Legal, and Engineering.
Certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CISA, or similar are highly desirable.
What success looks like
First 30 days: Assessed the current policy library and exception process, built relationships with key stakeholders, and proposed a prioritized roadmap.
First 90 days: Uplift the existing security policy library to align with NIST CSF, ISO 27001/27017/27018/42001, and PCI-DSS.
First 120 days: A refreshed review cadence is in place, exception reporting is running, and can demonstrate a measurable improvement in policy adherence.
First six months: Develop Policy as Code and collaborate with Security, Product, Legal, and Engineering for implementation into existing workflows.
About the team
The Security Assurance organization helps GitLab build and maintain trust by strengthening how we approach security, compliance, and risk. Security Governance sits within it and owns customer trust, security awareness, policies and standards, and other governance functions. Our counterparts are Security Compliance, Security Risk, and GRC Engineering.
You will join a small team of four direct reports under the Director, where each person has broad scope and visible impact. We work remote-first and asynchronously, and we write things down and share them openly, so you'll draft and revise policies and standards in the open with input from Security, Legal, Product, and Engineering.

An overview of this role
Credit-based and consumption-based offerings are becoming central to how GitLab monetizes. The systems that meter, rate, and bill that consumption sit underneath all of it. You'll own the backend usage billing pipeline and its product direction while supporting the Monetization Platform and Infrastructure team as it modernizes the foundations underneath it.
When another GitLab team launches a credit-consuming capability, you'll help them make it billable across GitLab.com, self-managed, and GitLab Dedicated. This is a technical, systems-oriented product role: success means building a monetization platform other teams can launch on quickly and correctly, rather than shipping customer-facing UI.
What you’ll do
Own the product direction for metering, aggregation, and rating in GitLab's usage billing pipeline, including the Zuora and CustomersDot integrations that turn usage into invoiced revenue.
Make onboarding a new credit-consuming capability a repeatable process rather than a bespoke project each time.
Partner with product teams on what to instrument, how to meter and price usage across GitLab.com, self-managed, and GitLab Dedicated, and what it takes to be billable on launch day. Stay ahead of their roadmaps so billing doesn't delay launches.
Prioritize pipeline scalability, performance, and reliability as consumption grows, balancing those investments against new capability enablement.
Own billing defect detection and remediation so errors surface before they reach a customer's invoice and billing outcomes remain auditable.
Support the Monetization Platform and Infrastructure team by framing problems, explaining the value of platform investments, and prioritizing them against operational risk.
Define and track measures of billing accuracy, pipeline reliability, cost to serve per capability, and time to monetize so teams can make informed pricing decisions.
What you’ll bring
Experience owning the product direction of consumption- or usage-based billing systems.
Experience with Zuora or a comparable billing and revenue platform, and an understanding of how product and finance systems interact.
Experience with prepaid, commitment, or credit-drawdown pricing models (balances, reservations, overage, expiration) and the edge cases they create in billing and revenue.
Experience launching new products or pricing models while coordinating across engineering, Finance, Legal, Compliance and go-to-market teams.
Ability to bring together teams you don't manage around work their launches depend on.
Experience defining problems for platform or backend teams whose users are often other teams.
Clear written communication in an all-remote, asynchronous environment; you'll use issues, epics, and direction pages to lead.
Familiarity with developer tooling, financial audit or revenue recognition, or an engineering background can help, but isn't required.
You use AI tools as part of how you work: prototyping, analysis, spec writing, and investigation.
About the team
In Monetization, we coordinate across engineering, Finance, Legal, Compliance and go-to-market on new products and pricing models. Our remote, asynchronous work uses written issues, and epics to keep decisions visible.
