Senior Platform Engineer

Location: Barcelona, Spain Workplace: remote About seQura seQura provides innovative, flexible and easy-to-use payment technologies that help merchants acquire, convert and retain more customers. We make a difference in sales performance by tailoring our solutions to different sectors, to address their unique pain points and deliver superior results in Retail, Education, Eyewear, Repairs and Travel. We also empower smart shopping to consumers who seek more value, convenience, and flexibility in their shopping, with new payment experiences that allow them to save, access interest-free credit, or pay in small, comfortable installments of up to 24 months. Born in Barcelona, seQura is a privately-owned fintech, currently expanding throughout southern Europe and Latin America, growing above 50% CAGR. Over 6000 businesses, almost 3 million shoppers, and almost 400 employees continue to rate us as one of the most loved and trusted fintechs out there, with an NPS of 87%, a Trustpilot rating of 4.7/5, and a Glassdoor rating of 4.1/5. About the role 🤓 We're looking for a Senior Platform Engineer to join our Platform team and help us build the platform that lets every engineer at seQura ship safely, quickly, and on their own. seQura is expanding into new international markets, and the platform has to grow with it without growing its cost at the same pace. At the same time, AI is changing how infrastructure is built and run. We already put AI agents to work on our everyday platform work, from reviewing infrastructure changes and explaining plans to helping engineers resolve incidents on their own. Our goal is to go much further: independent agents working across the whole scope of the platform, with engineers who decide what matters and own the outcome. You'll work in a cloud-native AWS environment, in a regulated fintech, where security, compliance, and reliability are part of the product we offer to the rest of engineering. How we build at seQura 🤖 AI-assisted development is how our engineers work every day. We use AI agents to think through problems, write, review and iterate on code, and we're looking for engineers who already work this way, or are actively making the shift. What matters to us isn't whether you know the syntax and idioms of your preferred programming language or tech stack by heart. It's whether you understand the problem you're solving, can explain the business logic behind it, and own every line you ship, no matter who (or what) wrote it first. AI helps you move faster, challenge assumptions, explore different approaches and improve your solutions. But knowing which questions to ask, making sound technical and product decisions, and taking responsibility for the outcome is always up to you. Our technical interviews reflect this approach: you'll use your own AI tools, and we'll ask you to walk us through your solution, both the business reasoning and the code. If you're only interested in technical challenges without engaging in the product decisions behind them, or you'd rather not work with AI, this probably isn't the right role for you. About the Platform team 🧩 Team Mission To empower engineers with secure, efficient, and compliant infrastructure, while continuously improving through automation and collaboration. What we own Our multi-account AWS foundation and the Kubernetes (EKS) clusters where seQura's products run Infrastructure as Code with Terragrunt, delivered through pull requests and Atlantis Deployment and GitOps tooling: Helm charts, shared deploy configuration, and CI/CD pipelines The observability stack used across engineering: metrics, logs, traces, and alerting Security and compliance foundations: secrets management, access control, PCI DSS, and the controls required to operate regulated entities across multiple countries under regulations such as DORA, NIS2 and those still to come. Internal developer tooling, including the AI agents and Claude Code plugins that engineers use to work with our platform on their own How we work We're enablers: internal teams are our customers, and we measure success by how much they can do without us We're autonomous end-to-end: we code, deploy, observe, improve, and document what we build Everything as code, everything through a pull request, everything reviewed, and every important decision written down in an ADR Strong opinions, held weakly; collaborators over rock stars; blameless by default We plan by quarter and choose initiatives by their impact on users and on the business We work closely with every product engineering team, with Security, with the Data Platform team, and with Compliance. What challenges you'll be solving 🚀 International expansion : help seQura launch in multiple new markets, with the isolation, compliance, and reliability each one requires AI-native platform : move from AI that assists us to independent agents that operate across the whole scope of the platform, from infrastructure changes to support and incident response Keeping up with open source in the AI era : define new strategies to adopt, upgrade, and secure the open source software we depend on, now that it moves faster than ever Scale without raising our baseline cost : design the strategies that let the business keep growing while our base infrastructure cost stays flat What to expect in the next 90 days 🏁 Month 1: Learn the terrain 🧭 You'll join initiatives the team already has in motion, pairing with your teammates and shipping your first changes to production. You'll learn how we work, why we made the decisions we made, and what the rest of engineering expects from us. By the end of the month: you've shipped to production and you know who to ask for what. Month 2: Own your first mission 🎯 We'll hand you an opportunity the team has already identified, and it's yours: from the technical design to running it in production. You'll keep discovering seQura along the way, and we'll be there whenever you need context. By the end of the month: you've delivered an initiative end-to-end and you have your own opinion on where the platform should go next. Month 3: Shape what comes next 🚀 With more context, you'll be the one finding the opportunity. You'll talk with other teams to understand their friction, lead a cross-team initiative, and bring your own proposals to the planning of next quarter. By the end of the month: part of next quarter's roadmap has your name on it. What we are looking for🤝 Must have: You've designed and operated highly available distributed systems in production, and you've lived through what happens when they fail : incidents, post-mortems, and the changes that made sure it didn't happen again Proven experience scaling infrastructure at a global scale Strong hands-on experience with AWS , Kubernetes , and Terraform in production A product mindset : you put users and the business at the center of your decisions, and you can explain why one initiative matters more than another Hands-on experience working with AI agents in your daily engineering work Agency: you don't wait for a ticket. You spot the problem, decide it's worth solving, bring people along, and own it until it runs in production Professional proficiency in English, both written and spoken Nice to have: Experience in fintech, payments, or other regulated environments (PCI DSS, DORA, or similar) Experience with Terragrunt, Atlantis, or GitOps workflows Scripting or programming in Python, Go, or similar Experience with Prometheus, Grafana, the Elastic stack, or Tempo Experience building internal developer platforms or self-service tooling Experience building your own AI agents, skills, or automations for engineering teams Experience being part of an on-call rotation Spanish Tech stack 🛠️ AWS (multi-account), Kubernetes (EKS), Terragrunt, Atlantis, Helm, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, SOPS, Prometheus, Grafana, Thanos, Elastic, Tempo, Python, and AI coding agents such as Claude Code as part of our daily workflow.
