The Opportunity:
The Engineering Manager role is a key leadership position requiring a hands-on approach. Responsibilities include writing and reviewing code, coaching engineers, and leading engineering teams. The role demands passion for engineering, strong opinions on system architecture, and experience across the full technology stack including infrastructure, client side, backend, performance, and data.
Responsibilities:
— Be hands-on with coding and code reviews.
— Provide expert coaching and guidance to engineers.
— Lead one or more engineering teams.
— Develop and inspire team members to reach their potential.
— Recruit and integrate top talent into the business.
Requirements:
— Proficiency in at least one programming language: Java, Scala, or C#.
— Strong experience in systems architecture, especially complex, scalable, fault-tolerant distributed systems.
— Experience as a system owner with operational responsibility.
— Knowledge of lower-level engineering concepts such as garbage collection, context switching, and threading.
— Familiarity with DevOps culture, agility, leanness, automation, and CI/CD.
— Good understanding of application security.
— Experience leading engineering teams with 5+ direct reports.
— Ability to operate autonomously, make decisions, set KPIs, and take ownership.
— Data-driven decision-making skills.
It is a plus to have proficiency in more than one programming language.
