The Workplace Engineering function sits at the intersection of traditional HR analytics and modern Product Engineering. We transform raw workforce data into a suite of "People Products" that drive high performance. We don’t just "report" on what happened; we engineer the tools and insights that determine what happens next.
This new role will report directly to the Global Head of Workplace Engineering, and sits within our Data discipline inside of our People department. Experienced data professionals at Canonical live at the intersection of software, data, and the business. They don't just help surface analytic artifacts; they help transform them into a strategic asset that elevates decision making and innovation across our global operations (e.g., sales, marketing, engineering, and human resources). They balance technical precision with business pragmatism, designing and iterating on experiments, automations, and products that transform insights into valued outcomes. They shape tomorrow's AI/Data stack in open source, ensuring that Canonical remains at the forefront of data-driven excellence. Product Ownership on People Science: Bridge the gap between "HR-speak" and "Dev-speak", ensuring engineers understand the human behavioral intent behind the code.
Strategic Insight & Business Outcomes: Move beyond descriptive metrics (e.g., turnover rate) to predictive and prescriptive insights (e.g., predicting attrition risk based on "Time-Product" engagement data).
Data Stewardship & Product Storytelling: Act as the "Translator-in-Chief". Take complex data models and turn them into compelling narratives. Lead the development of AI Agents that can surface insights to managers in real-time. Ensure the "People Data Stack" is secure, GDPR/privacy-compliant, and acts as a "Single Source of Truth" across all People related offerings, products and services.
“Effectiveness at Work” Strategy: Identify opportunities to leverage “High Tech” solutions in our People offerings, and free up more time for “High Touch”, human involvement, thereby maximizing human value.
What we are looking for in you
Background in data science, mathematics, or engineering, skilled in advanced statistics, data wrangling/science, databases (SQL, etc.) or software engineering.
Strength in coding/scripting languages (Python, R, JavaScript, etc.), software engineering, visualization (e.g. Superset, Tableau), and automation.

Ability to identify the best methodology to execute research, synthesize and analyze findings.
Proven ability to lead and drive others to execute against well planned roadmaps, with a strong mentor/coaching mindset.
Willingness to examine the status quo and be resilient in the face of challenges.

We're proof that a high-performing culture doesn't need an office. Distributed across 60+ countries since 2020, we've built something the industry keeps noticing:
- Ranked #10 of 250 on TIME and Statista's 2026 list of America's Top WorkTech Companies https://www.oysterhr.com/library/oyster-hr-named-10-of-americas-top-worktech-companies-of-2026-by-time

- The only B Corp-certified global employment platform ~ independently verified since 2023
Two of those rankings measured our business impact from the outside. One measured how our own people feel about working here. They landed in the same place ~ because at Oyster, culture and performance aren't separate conversations. They're the same one.
And we're just getting started. If you want to do the best work of your career alongside people who care as much as you do, we'd love for you to apply.

From Fivetran’s founding until now, our mission has remained the same: to make access to data as simple and reliable as electricity. With Fivetran, customer data arrives in their warehouses, canonical and ready to query, with no engineering or maintenance required. We’re proud that more organizations continue to leverage our technology every day to become truly data-driven.
About Us
Fivetran and dbt Labs are bringing together two industry-leading companies with a shared mission: helping organizations unlock the full value of their data. Together, we’re delivering the data infrastructure layer that helps organizations move, transform, and trust their data — from the moment data moves, through every transformation, to the context teams and AI systems rely on. Fivetran helps organizations automate data movement across the systems, clouds, engines, and tools they rely on. dbt Labs pioneered analytics engineering, helping teams transform data into reliable, governed insights. Together, we support thousands of organizations as they build a trusted foundation for analytics, AI, and better business decisions.
As we bring our teams and technology together, we’re building on the strengths of both companies while continuing to deliver the products and experiences our customers know and trust. It’s an exciting time to join us: we’re creating a company with the scale, talent, and technology to help more organizations put their data to work with greater speed, confidence, and impact. During this transition period, you may see references to both Fivetran and dbt Labs throughout our recruiting process as we integrate our teams, systems, and career sites.
Location:
Austin, TX (3 days in office preferred). Our hybrid work model offers a blend of remote flexibility and in-person collaboration, including 2-3 days in the office each week to connect and build as a team.
About the Role:
Your role as a Customer Solutions Architect is to help current customers gain the most value from their dbt Cloud deployment, in partnership with the Sales Director and Solutions Architect on the account. Your end goal will be to drive customer satisfaction, resulting in renewal and expansion among our existing customers.
Internally, you will help our team by acting as the voice of the customer to ensure that we continue to build product that solves real problems and delights our customers, and be an integral part of the early Customer Solutions Architect team as we continue to build out our processes and playbooks. This person will be based in Austin and will be in office 2 days per week.
What You'll Do
Manage a portfolio of Commercial or Enterprise customers and proactively monitor the health of your accounts, product adoption, and utilization across your book of business to identify opportunities for potential expansion and churn or contraction risks
Improve customer loyalty and retention through building and maintaining strong relationships with key technical stakeholders within customer accounts, and understanding their analytics needs and use cases to determine where dbt Cloud can help them achieve their goals
Increase the value customers obtain from dbt Cloud through educating your customer base on new products and features as they are launched and on existing products and features that they may not be making use of
Collaborate closely with Sales Directors and Solutions Architects on your accounts, building strong trust-based relationships and providing strategic input on the customer lifecycle and renewals processes
Be the voice of the customer in product discussions, work with the team to improve the way we work together, and participate in other cross-functional activities
Participate in the knowledge loop helping to improve our processes and assets and enabling others on the team

Desire to be part of a team, both as an active member of the Customer Solutions Architect team as we continue to evolve and improve how we work, and in your day-to-day work with Sales Directors and Solutions Architects

- Named one of America's Greatest Startup Workplaces 2026 https://www.oysterhr.com/library/oyster-2026-newsweek-award by Newsweek
- A G2 Spring 2026 Leader https://www.oysterhr.com/library/oyster-named-best-roi-for-any-global-employment-platform-for-g2-spring-2026 across Employer of Record, Global Employment, Multi-country Payroll, and HR Compliance
Location: While this position is posted in a specific location, all of Oyster’s positions are fully remote and you can work from home. Forever. To create the best experience for our new hire, this role requires at least 3-4 hours of overlap with Central European Time (CET/CEST) business hours to support collaboration with the team.
Role Summary

As part of our Employment Law Team, you'll advise internal teams and external stakeholders on employment law matters across multiple jurisdictions, playing a direct role in how Oyster supports workers and companies around the world.
A core part of the role is researching and staying current on employment laws and regulations across jurisdictions; managing employment templates, policies, and standard employment processes; liaising with outside counsel on local legal requirements; creating clear, accessible guidance on hiring, managing, and terminating workers globally; and advising Oyster's Platform and Product teams on building a scalable, compliant technology platform. You'll also contribute to the strategic development of our employment-as-a-platform model.
Because Oyster operates as an Employer of Record (EOR), a solid understanding of how that model works, and the unique legal considerations it creates for Oyster, our customers, and their team members, is essential to this role.
The right candidate brings extensive employment law experience, including multi-jurisdictional and cross-border matters, and a track record of advising HR and business partners. Knowledge of immigration rules and employee benefits is a plus. Beyond legal expertise, we're looking for someone who translates complex issues into clear, practical guidance for non-legal audiences, balancing compliance with pragmatic problem-solving, anticipating emerging risks, and partnering strategically with the business to deliver outcomes that are both legally sound and operationally effective.
We also value candidates who embrace AI and other technology tools to enhance efficiency, streamline workflows, and scale the impact of their legal expertise.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and maintain employment templates, policies, and processes across multiple jurisdictions, ensuring Oyster's employment offering remains compliant, scalable, and operationally effective.
- Monitor legislative and regulatory developments globally, assess their impact on Oyster's products and operations, and drive implementation of required changes.
- Partner closely with Product, People team and other cross-functional stakeholders to design and implement compliant employment solutions that balance legal requirements with business objectives.
- Advise on a broad range of employment law and compliance matters across the employee lifecycle, including hiring, compensation, leave, performance management, terminations.
- Support strategic initiatives such as Direct Expansion, indirect-to-direct migrations, and the launch of new employment products and features.
- Research complex employment law issues and translate legal analysis into clear, practical, and business-focused recommendations.
- Develop and maintain employment guides, knowledge resources, and compliance documentation to support scalable operations across Oyster's global footprint.
- Support labor inspections, audits, regulatory inquiries, and other employment compliance initiatives.
- Use data, stakeholder feedback, and operational insights to identify risks, improve processes, and enhance the effectiveness of Oyster's employment compliance framework.
- Identify and champion opportunities to leverage AI, automation, and process innovation to improve team efficiency, reduce manual work, and enable the scalable delivery of employment compliance and legal support.
- Contribute to a highly collaborative, remote-first team culture and help drive continuous improvement across Employment Products.
Core Requirements
- Law Degree (e.g. JD or equivalent) and admission to practice law in one or more jurisdictions.
- 4+ years of experience practicing employment law, preferably with a combination of law firm and in-house practice.
- Deep expertise in employment law, including hands-on experience with standard employment processes: drafting and reviewing contracts, managing templates and policies, advising across a wide range of employment matters and interpreting local labor regulations across multiple jurisdictions.
- Understanding of the EOR model and ability to anticipate and navigate its unique legal challenges; prior experience working with or within an EOR is preferred.
- Experience managing multi-jurisdictional and/or cross-border employment matters, with the ability to work across diverse legal systems and regulatory environments.
- Strong business acumen with the ability to distill complex legal concepts into clear, practical, and actionable guidance for non-legal stakeholders; creativity and pragmatism in risk mitigation are essential.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and research skills, with a keen eye for detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, global environment.
- A technology-forward mindset, including curiosity and comfort with leveraging AI and automation tools to work more efficiently and continuously improve legal processes.
- A positive attitude and willingness to assist others, no matter how small the task.
You'll also need
- A reliable home internet connection.
- Fluency in both written and spoken English.
