- Senior Backend Software Engineer (Tactical Access)
- Business Automation - Engineering
- Location: Espoo, Finland
- Reports to: Engineering Lead of Tactical Access squad
- Contract type: Permanent
- Hybrid, 3 days per week in the Espoo office
- Employment is subject to applicable security screening (incl. SUPO)
THE MISSION OF THE SENIOR BACKEND SOFTWARE ENGINEER
You will own the backend systems that let customers plan and manage satellite tasking through Tactical Access, ICEYE's tactical customer access product.
Tactical Access is customer-facing on two fronts, API and web, so this role sits at the intersection of backend engineering rigor and product ownership. You will design and operate the services and data models that power satellite tasking for real customers, and you will be trusted to make API design and reliability decisions that customers depend on directly, not just internal consumers.
WHO WE ARE
ICEYE delivers space-based intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities to governments and allied nations. This includes sovereign and turnkey ISR missions leveraging ICEYE's world-leading synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellite technology, as well as access to data from the world's largest SAR satellite constellation. These capabilities enable partners to detect and respond to critical changes anywhere on Earth with unprecedented speed and accuracy, day or night and in any weather, supported by ultra high-resolution imagery and high-frequency revisits.
As a trusted partner for defense, intelligence, security, and maritime domain awareness, ICEYE's near real-time data creates a tactical advantage for mission-critical operations. Designed for dual use, the platform also serves civil protection and commercial users for natural-catastrophe intelligence, insurance, maritime monitoring (including oil-spill detection), and finance, contributing to global security and community resilience.
ICEYE operates internationally with offices in Finland, Poland, Spain, Japan, the UAE, Greece, and the US. The company has more than 900 employees, inspired by the shared vision of improving life on Earth by becoming the global source of truth in Earth Observation.
EXPECTED OUTCOMES & REQUIREMENTS
Outcomes
- Own end-to-end delivery of at least one significant Tactical Access backend capability, from API design through production operation, with documented tradeoffs
- Reduce production risk in owned services through improved observability (metrics, traces, alerting) and demonstrated root-cause fixes, not just symptom patches
- Ship API changes that account for client/customer impact (versioning, backwards compatibility) with no unplanned breaking changes to integrators
- Collaborate directly with product managers, customers, and other engineering teams to turn business needs into the right technical tradeoffs
- Contribute full-stack when end-to-end delivery requires it, without backend ownership slipping as a result
- Actively raise the engineering bar in code review and architecture discussions for the team, not just their own PRs
Role-specific Competences
- Production backend engineering experience in Go (or a closely comparable typed language) building and operating APIs and backend systems in production
- API design and lifecycle ownership: versioning, backwards compatibility, and reasoning about customer impact of changes
- Cloud (AWS) and container/orchestration experience (Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform); on-prem environment awareness is a plus
- Data and messaging experience: PostgreSQL for storage, NATS for event-driven communication
- Observability experience: building and maintaining dashboards and alerting with Prometheus, Grafana, and OpenTelemetry; comfortable distinguishing metrics, logs, and traces during a live incident
- Treats testing, documentation, and code review as core engineering practice, not overhead
- Applies security and quality best practices in a production, customer-facing system
- Good experience in AI-assisted engineering tools (Cursor, Devin, or similar)
- Familiarity with authentication/authorization standards (OAuth, OpenID Connect, JWT) and geospatial data (PostGIS, GeoJSON)
KEY COMPETENCES
In addition to the requirements above, we evaluate candidates on these key qualities throughout the hiring process:
Intellectual Firepower: Rapidly comprehends, structures and synthesizes complex information, draws accurate conclusions, and communicates them with clarity.
Passion & Work Ethic: Brings sustained motivation, resilience, and high personal standards to every challenge.
Ownership & Action: Assumes full accountability for outcomes, acting decisively, and ensuring commitments are delivered.
Team Player: Works collaboratively across teams, contributing to shared success, and engaging in constructive debate.
Integrity & Growth Mindset: Operates with transparency and humility, learns from setbacks, and actively seeks opportunities to grow.

ABOUT MISTRAL
Mistral provides full-stack AI solutions: from frontier models to developer tools, applications, and compute. We partner with enterprises tackling the hardest problems across high-stakes industries like finance, manufacturing, defense, healthcare, and the public sector, co-creating customized AI systems that they can run on their terms.
We are a dynamic, collaborative team passionate about AI and its potential to transform society. Our diverse workforce thrives in competitive environments and is committed to driving innovation. Our teams are distributed between Europe, North America, Asia and the Middle East. We are creative, low-ego and team-spirited.
THE ROLE
Mistral AI is seeking Applied Scientists and Research Engineers to drive innovative research and collaborate with clients on complex research projects.
You will develop SOTA models across different modalities such as text, image, and speech. By developing novel methods and research ideas you will apply these models across a diverse set of use cases and domains. Working cross-functionally with both external and internal science, engineering, and product teams you will deliver high-impact AI solutions that turn the needle.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
• Run pre-training, post-training and deploy state of the art models on clusters with thousands of GPUs. You don’t panic when you see OOM errors or when NCCL feels like not wanting to talk.
• Generate and curate data for pre-training and post-training, working on evaluations and making sure the model’s performance beats expectations.
• Develop the necessary tools and frameworks to facilitate data generation, model training, evaluation and deployment.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to tackle complex use cases using agents and RAG pipelines.
• Manage research projects and communications with client research teams.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
• You have excellent communication skills. You are at ease explaining complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• You’re an expert with PyTorch or JAX.
• You’re not afraid of contributing to a big codebase and can find yourself around independently with little guidance.
• You write clean, readable, high-performance, fault-tolerant Python code.
• You don’t need roadmaps: you just do. You don’t need a manager: you just ship.
• Low-ego, collaborative and eager to learn.
• You have a track record of success through personal projects, professional projects or in academia.
NICE TO HAVE
• Hold a PhD / master in a relevant field (e.g., Mathematics, Physics, Machine Learning, Computer Science & Engineering), but if you’re an exceptional candidate from a different background, you should apply.
• Can bring a variety of research experience (agents, multi-modality, robotics, diffusion, time-series).
• Have contributed to a large codebase used by many (open source or in the industry).
• Have a track record of publications in top academic journals or conferences.
• Love improving existing code by fixing typing issues, adding tests and improving CI pipelines.

Are you an engineer who loves diving deep into ML models, building standalone CLI tools, and exploring how far AI agents can go in autonomous coding? Do you want to rethink how software is built and use the tools you create every single day?
About JetBrains
We create intelligent software development tools for developers and teams. More than 15 million users, over 300,000 companies, and 88 of the Fortune Global Top 100 rely on our products to solve real, complex problems. Our mission is simple: make development teams more productive and AI adoptable at scale.
What you’ll do
We build Junie, our AI coding agent, available across JetBrains IDEs and as a standalone CLI. We're combining the latest advancements in AI and LLMs with our decades of software development expertise.
We are working in three main areas: growing Junie CLI into a general-purpose agent independent of any IDE, optimizing model ensembling and setups for the best cost-to-intelligence ratio without compromising code quality, and pushing next-level autonomy so Junie can own, maintain, and evolve entire subsystems over multi-day horizons.
You’ll have end-to-end ownership over these initiatives, taking work from early research to production code while shaping the future of autonomous development.
Day to day, you will:
Develop and ship new features for Junie across CLI and model integrations.
Experiment with model setups, ensembling, and cost efficiency strategies.
Build and test autonomous agent behaviors for long-term project maintenance.
Own the full development cycle from initial research to production-ready code.
Use Junie daily to continuously iterate on its quality and user experience.
What you’ll bring
Comfort taking full ownership of decisions and implementation.
The curiosity to challenge assumptions and experiment with new ideas.
The ability to learn new concepts quickly and adapt quickly.
A mindset focused on long-term impact rather than short-term workarounds.
Strong interest in autonomous AI systems and software engineering tools.
What you’ll need
A proven track record of developing and shipping machine learning or full-stack software products.
Hands-on experience working with LLMs, prompt engineering, or agentic workflows.
The ability to write high-quality production code across the full development lifecycle.
Practical experience building or fine-tuning ML models.
What success looks like
In this role, success means taking bold experiments in agent autonomy and cost efficiency and turning them into reliable, production-ready capabilities. You'll know you're succeeding when Junie can tackle complex multi-day engineering tasks autonomously and the tool you build every day actively improves your own engineering workflow.
Why join JetBrains?

The Role
We’re looking for a
Software Engineer
to build software that makes network operations safe, scalable, and boring — even as we launch new data centers and expand fast. This is not a “write scripts for configs” role: you’ll build the tooling and services that sit between the network core (switches/ports/VLANs, traffic processors) and the cloud platform on top, using open source where it fits and building the missing pieces where it doesn’t.
Your responsibilities will include:
Build and maintain services and tooling that automate the network lifecycle: day-0 provisioning, day-N changes, drift detection, and operational verification
Make network changes safe and transparent: CI/CD workflows, diff/review tooling, staged rollouts/rollbacks, audit trails, and guardrails
Develop observability systems that scale across many sites: telemetry pipelines, signal quality, and tooling that shortens incident investigations
Close “last mile” gaps between the network and the platform: integrate source-of-truth data, expose APIs, and build reliable automation around it
Collaborate closely with network engineers and SREs to turn real operational pain into product-quality tooling
We expect you to have:
5+ years of professional software engineering experience (or equivalent practical background)
Strong coding skills and ownership mindset: you can ship and operate reliable services
Proficiency in
Go
or readiness to switch;
Python
is also welcome (other languages can be useful for OSS debugging/fixes)
You don’t have to be Network expert
but we expect you to have interest in infrastructure and/or network
It will be an added bonus if you have:
Background in networking (ex-network engineer, CCNP/education, DC networking exposure) or strong interest and proven ability to learn fast
Experience building automation/infra tooling: CI/CD, IaC, testing/staging environments, or “network-as-code” style workflows
Low-level networking / datapath experience: eBPF/XDP, DPDK, kernel networking, traffic processing systems
Experience designing high-load services and observability platforms (metrics/logs/traces, alerting, regression detection)
Contributions to open source or experience extending/debugging OSS components in production environments
We expect Engineers to:
Manage large-scale projects involving multiple stakeholders
Break down complex tasks and guide both their own work and that of more junior colleagues
Be experts in specific technologies and write high-quality code that can serve as a reference
Assess task priority and focus on high-impact work, avoiding low-value efforts
Have strong architectural thinking and contribute to system design
Be involved in hiring and actively contribute to interviews
Be willing to share knowledge and mentor others
Benefits & Perks:
Competitive compensation
Career growth and learning opportunities
Flexibility and ownership
Collaborative and innovative culture
Opportunity to work on impactful AI projects
International environment and talented teams
