- Draft invention memos and patent applications, translating complex technical ideas into clear, defensible disclosures.
- Manage global patent prosecution, including office action responses and outside counsel, to ensure high-quality filings.
- Develop and maintain internal IP processes, tools, and documentation, including dashboards for tracking filings, deadlines, and portfolio metrics.
- Support M&A due diligence by assessing IP portfolios, freedom-to-operate risks, and competitive positioning of targets.
- Administer and evolve the inventor recognition program, including bonuses, awards, and visibility initiatives.
- Align patent strategy with Mistral’s open-source objectives and recommend participation in defensive patent networks or alliances.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- Proven experience drafting patents in complex software/AI domains, with a deep understanding of AI patent eligibility in the US and Europe.

- Experience selecting, managing, and optimizing external patent firms to ensure high-quality, cost-effective prosecution.
- Ability to engage with researchers and engineers, extract critical information, and explain IP concepts to non-legal audiences.
- Self-driven and resourceful, with a talent for anticipating needs, engaging stakeholders, and documenting processes.
- Business acumen to understand how patents drive value for a scale-up, combined with familiarity with open-source licenses and their intersection with patents.
- Fluent English (required for legal/technical writing);

You will:
— Design, implement, and maintain both internal and public-facing APIs used across various Supabase products, including Studio, CLI, management APIs, and OAuth applications.
— Integrate with third-party platforms and partners, either by developing custom integrations or providing clear API points for them to connect with Supabase.
— Collaborate closely with various teams across Supabase (DevOps, Frontend, etc.) to ensure smooth integration and implementation of API functionality for the rest of the platform.

We’re introducing Rust where correctness, performance, and reliability truly matter.
Narvar
is Growing! Narvar is a multi-language platform, and we’re intentional about where we apply Rust. We’re looking for senior engineers to help us
bring Rust into the backbone of the system
— the parts that must be fast, safe, and correct under real-world scale.
This role is for engineers who want agency: people who enjoy identifying the right problems, choosing the right tools, and owning systems end-to-end. You won’t be handed a narrow ticket queue. You’ll help decide
what
gets built and
how
it should be built.
For this role, you should be located in Canada and able to work within EST/EDT or PDT/PST hours. We are fully remote.
Day-to-day
Design and build
high-correctness Rust services
that sit on critical platform paths
Introduce Rust into areas where safety, determinism, and performance are essential
Own systems from
architecture → implementation → rollout → operations
Make real decisions around concurrency, async boundaries, data integrity, and failure modes
Work across service boundaries in a
polyglot environment
(Rust alongside other stacks)
Collaborate with product, design, and frontend engineers to build systems that are technically sound
and
product-aware
Improve reliability, observability, and system behavior through design, not just patching
Mentor other engineers and raise the bar on system quality and ownership
What We’re Looking For
We care more about
judgment and ownership
than credentials.
You’re likely a strong fit if you:
Have built and operated
distributed systems
in production
Have
deep hands-on Rust experience
(not just experiments or side projects)
Understand where Rust shines — and where it doesn’t
Are comfortable reasoning about
concurrency, async systems, and correctness guarantees
Have experience designing APIs and data contracts that evolve safely over time
Have worked with
relational and/or NoSQL databases
at scale
Have deployed and operated services in
AWS or GCP
(We are a GCP Shop though!)
Take initiative naturally and are comfortable operating with ambiguity
Communicate clearly and make tradeoffs explicit
Bonus Points
These aren’t hard requirements, but strong indicators:
You’ve worked in
startup or high-ownership environments
You’ve owned systems in production, including on-call responsibility
You’re comfortable moving across the stack when needed (backend-first, full-stack aware)
You’ve influenced architecture by earning trust, not by mandate
You use modern tooling (including AI-assisted workflows) to
increase leverage
, not outsource thinking
(Note: we care about outcome and judgment, not how flashy your tools are.)
Why Rust at Narvar?
Because some parts of the system deserve stronger guarantees.
We use Rust where:
Bugs are expensive
Latency and throughput matter
Safety and correctness are non-negotiable
You’ll help define
where Rust belongs
, not just write Rust in isolation.
Why Narvar (From an Engineer’s Perspective)?
Real scale, real customers, real impacts
Startup-level ownership with platform-level impact
Teams that value
thinking, judgment, and responsibility
Low ego, high trust, and room to do your best work
Why Narvar?
We're on a mission to simplify the everyday lives of consumers. Post-purchase is a critical phase of the customer journey. That's why we created Narvar - a platform focused on driving customer loyalty through seamless post-purchase experiences that allow retailers to retain, engage, and delight customers. If you've ever bought something online, there's a good chance you've used our platform!

Pioneering the post-purchase movement means navigating into the unknown. Our team thrives on this sense of adventure while nurturing a mindset of innovation. We're a home for big hearts and we leave our egos at the door. We work hard but we always make time to celebrate professional wins, baby showers, birthday parties, and everything in between.
We are an equal-opportunity employer and value diversity at our company. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.

The Candidate Journey:
- Initial Screening: Our Talent Team will review your application.
- First Assessment: If selected to move forward, you’ll receive a multiple-choice assessment by email.
- Second Assessment: Candidates who achieve a passing score will be contacted by a member of our team to complete a more comprehensive assessment focused on their area of expertise.
- Video Screen: If selected to move forward, you’ll have a short video call with a member of our Operations Team.
- Final: Selected candidates will receive an Independent Contractor Agreement.
As an independent contractor, you maintain control over how you complete your work and may work with multiple clients simultaneously. We request that you declare any external work relationships with Cohere’s direct competitors and always maintain the IP confidentiality of the Cohere project. Independent contractors are not eligible for health benefits or other benefits provided to employees. Compensation for services is provided to contractors by self-invoicing for services provided pursuant to the terms of our agreement with the contractor.
It is important to understand that, as an independent contractor, continuous work is not guaranteed. The client-contractor relationship is fundamentally project-based, meaning engagements may be temporary, periodic, or intermittent based on our organizational needs and project availability. As an independent contractor, you should anticipate fluctuations in workflow and, therefore, compensation for services when Cohere does not require as many hours of services in a week.
Prospective candidates, please be advised: this role involves working with human-generated and model-generated tasks that may involve exposure to not safe for work (NSFW) text content as part of data annotation tasks, including explicit, offensive, or other inappropriate material.
If the above qualifications do not perfectly align with your experience, we still encourage you to apply!
We value and celebrate diversity and strive to create an inclusive work environment for all. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and are committed to providing equal opportunities. Should you require any accommodations during the recruitment process, please submit an Accommodations Request Form, and we will work together to meet your needs.
