The Role
Math Learning Designers at Brilliant design interactive learning games to teach a wide range of concepts, from foundational logic and arithmetic thinking to calculus, linear algebra, and beyond. We’re hiring exceptional learning designers who can teach mathematical thinking creatively, as well as brainstorm new interactive experiences that bring the principles of mathematical problem solving to life.
You will work in a small, nimble team to redefine the future of education. You will use your pedagogical instincts and taste to expand Brilliant’s library of Math learning games and achieve the best possible outcomes for our learners and our business. You will be joining a passionate and experienced team of entrepreneurial-minded people who are working to make a meaningful impact on the world.
To be considered for this role, please include your best example(s) of how you've taught mathematical concepts interactively online.
Responsibilities
Develop interactive courses that teach foundational principles of algebra, geometry, probability, calculus, and beyond.
Design visual, puzzle-driven learning experiences that guide learners along problem-solving journeys that promote mathematical thinking and deeper understanding.
Decompose complex mathematical ideas into approachable, well-sequenced steps that empower learners to reason from first principles.
Create content that is clear, creative, and intuitive — using visuals, interactivity, and problem sequencing to help learners build confidence and mastery.
Collaborate with product, design, and engineering teams to imagine and create new interactive features, visuals, and mechanics that elevate the learning experience on both computers and phones.
You
Have an undergraduate degree or above in a STEM field, and you’ve developed a strong grounding through research or teaching that extends beyond traditional math curricula.
Have a knack for teaching complex topics using a progression of clear, simple, hands-on steps.
You have experience with building or using interactivity to motivate, engage, and challenge learners, in synchronous or asynchronous contexts.
Have a way with words, especially when communicating challenging concepts, and your writing skills (in English) are top notch.
Are great at context switching and prioritizing across a large workload.
Have an openness to change and a willingness to experiment with formats and platforms.
Are not afraid to jump into any aspect of a project to fill a vacuum, no matter how big or small.
Why join Brilliant?
Brilliant has a mission you can get behind. We’re a company that’s inspiring and developing people to achieve their goals in STEM – one person, one question, and one small commitment to learning at a time.
We also offer:
• Competitive compensation
• Medical, dental, and vision benefits – we pay 100% of the premiums
• Equipment budget for computer and peripherals
• 401(k) plan (non-matching)
• Paid parental leave
• Free lunch in the office
• Weekly happy hour
• Flexible vacation time
• Fully-stocked pantry and refrigerator with snacks and drinks
• Sponsorship for conferences and professional development
• A stimulating work environment and a chance to change the world

Compensation and Benefits
We use a systematic compensation framework: salary scales are set each year for each job vertical, managers level folks on their team, and those levels are mapped directly to our compensation scales. A location-based adjustment is applied outside of SF and NYC (typically 5-10%) - feel free to ask us about your location!
Given the systematic approach, we always make First and Best offers - there is no negotiation (for new hires nor our existing teammates). This ensures people are paid based on their expected contribution, not their negotiation skills.
We offer top-notch health care plans, with 100% of the premiums covered for medical, dental, and vision for employees.
We offer flexible PTO, with a norm of taking off about 6 weeks per year (including federal holidays). We also provide home office equipment, a professional development stipend, and free food at our offices.

GiveWell’s mission is to help people in need as much as we can by researching the most cost‑effective ways to save and improve lives, sharing our work openly, and directing donations to the programs we believe will do the most good. Our work, which focuses on global health and well-being, is funded by tens of thousands of donors who rely on our research to inform their giving. We’ve grown from directing $1.5 million in 2010 to directing more than $400 million in 2025. We anticipate our total grantmaking is likely to approach or even exceed $1 billion this year, and we are working toward a future that could be several times that scale. Through years of deliberate groundwork, we’ve been growing our research capacity and scope in order to direct substantially more funding to the most impactful opportunities we can find.
The role
You will be joining a small grantmaking team to contribute to our ambitious research agenda on malaria. You’ll sift through the countless questions we could try to answer, and honing in on those that matter most. You’ll also communicate externally about your work and mentor and advise other researchers on the team.
You will shape a research agenda that brings rigor and creativity to the thorniest questions the GiveWell malaria team faces. Your work will combine empirical evidence review and critical synthesis, cost-effectiveness modeling, discussions with subject matter experts, understanding of the broader context, and your own judgment. In the course of your work, you might approach questions like these:
How should GiveWell’s portfolio of investments change in response to new technologies and shifts in government or funder priorities?
How does expanding the use of newly-developed insecticides in nets affect cost-effectiveness?
What is the potential cost-effectiveness of novel interventions such as attractive toxic sugar baits at scale across contexts?
Team structure
Our research department has over 60 people, and is currently organized into seven teams:
Five of the teams (Water, Livelihoods, Nutrition, Malaria, and Vaccines) focus on specific areas of grantmaking.
The New Areas team focuses on interventions in domains that are new to GiveWell.
The Cross-Cutting team focuses on methodological issues, research quality, and other big-picture concerns that cut across all of our research work.
The Commons team provides generalized research support to each of the other teams, including landscaping research, vetting, and publishing.
Our malaria team has three subteams: two of them focus on grantmaking in vector control and chemoprevention, respectively, and the third is focused on cross-team research questions. You might sit on any of the three teams.
Team values
We think our research team has unique qualities:
We care deeply and centrally about finding and sharing truth.
Truth-seeking is one of our
core values
. We post
our mistakes
and we prize our team members who keep our culture of free-flowing feedback strong.
We are independent.
We focus 100% on finding the most cost-effective opportunities to save and improve lives. Our researchers assist in communicating our research findings to the public and our donors, and on occasion we provide tailored advice to ultra-high-net-worth donors who want to rely on our expertise to direct their giving—but we never ask our researchers to trade off against honesty, or to hide their real beliefs.
We don’t waste time.
Once it’s clear that a particular research question is unlikely to change our bottom-line funding recommendation, we drop it as quickly as possible. We encourage our research staff to constantly re-evaluate their portfolios and only work on the highest-priority questions.
Lean research team = huge personal impact.
In 2026,
our research team of ~80 people is directing close to 1 billion dollars and we expect grantmaking dollars per research team member to increase in the future.
We work well together.
Our research team is lean because we’re able to attract top-tier people, all of whom complete skills-based assessments before joining our staff. We maintain a high-performing, collegial culture and pay our staff accordingly.
About you
We expect the Senior Malaria Researcher to have
A quantitatively oriented advanced degree (e.g., in epidemiology, statistics, economics or related fields)
Substantial professional experience in the malaria landscape (broadly defined). This could include experience in epidemiological or health economics modeling, and/or in program implementation or funding.
We expect that people with the soft qualities below will be the most successful and happy on our team. This isn’t a full list, but hopefully it conveys the gist of our team’s professional personality:
GiveWell’s mission and methods are personally energizing—you like our approach to research and you find personal meaning in our story of impact.
You’re abnormally curious—you ask lots of questions, and you’re willing to interrogate others’ work. Your curiosity also extends to your own work—you aren’t defensive when your research comes under scrutiny.
You routinely think about and surface the value judgments, background knowledge, and strategic commitments that undergird your work. You understand the potential effects of mistaken mental models, so you strive to improve yours and your team’s.
You dislike it when people express strong confidence in views that don’t seem to rely on commensurate evidence. You carefully and legibly communicate about your confidence levels.
You appreciate the value of an excellent reputation and strong relationships. You can moderate your directness and intensity when you’re communicating with external folks.
You love a
gnarly problem
. You figure out the most important questions to answer, go deep on the details where they matter (and move on where they don’t), and reassess your mental models based on what you’ve learned.
You constantly assess whether you and the team are working on the most important things.
If you’re interested in working on GiveWell’s research team but don’t have malaria expertise, consider applying to our generalist
Senior Researcher
role.

Benefits:
Our
benefits
include:
Fully funded health, dental, vision, and life insurance (we cover 100% of premiums within the US for you and any dependents)
Four weeks of paid time off per year
16 weeks of fully paid parental leave
Ergonomic home workstations or coworking space memberships
Automatic contribution equal to 5% of your gross salary into your 403(b) retirement plan (for U.S. based staff)
Countries we can hire from:
GiveWell is a remote-first organization. However, for the time being, we can only hire within a select number of countries (US, UK, Canada, Switzerland, and Germany). To be considered for a role with GiveWell, you need to already be based in one of those countries or be willing to move to one of them. We expect to expand the list of locations where we can hire over the course of 2027, and our job descriptions always reflect the current status — so we'd encourage you to check back and apply again for a role you're eligible for.
Visa sponsorship:
The US is the only country where visa sponsorship is possible for a number of roles, and it's assessed on a case by case basis. For all other countries, you need to already have work authorization, we cannot sponsor visas.
Why we work this way:
Focusing on countries where we already have tested onboarding processes lets us move candidates through hiring faster and with fewer surprises. Every additional country brings its own labor laws, EOR requirements, and new processes to work through, which slows things down for hiring teams and new colleagues alike. Concentrating our footprint keeps the experience consistent and supports GiveWell’s wider absorption capacity goals.
Flexibility:
We support and encourage flexible working, including flexible hours, working remotely, and working from the office when you choose. The majority of our staff, including senior management, work flexibly in one way or another.
Travel:
Research team members are sometimes required to attend international site visits and conferences (on average 1-2 per year), with additional travel for those interested in traveling more. Additionally, we strongly encourage staff members to attend quarterly whole-org and department retreats to bond with other team members and complete in-person work. We'll discuss travel obligations in more detail during late stages of the hiring process, and we’ll accommodate staff who have conflicting family or other obligations.
Start date:
We’d like a candidate to start as soon as possible after receiving an offer, but we’ll offer flexibility for candidates whose personal or professional circumstances require them to moderately delay their start date.
Miscellaneous details:
Please apply to only one Senior Researcher posting.
If you have deep expertise in this area, this pod-specific role is the right fit. If not, there's no need to apply here — our generalist Senior Researcher role is designed for strong researchers who don't have a single specialization, and you don't need to apply to both. Applying to the generalist role won't put you at any disadvantage!
Please note that our hiring process consists of the same work trials for the following roles: Researcher, Senior Researcher, Senior Cross-Cutting Researcher, Senior Livelihoods Researcher, Senior Malaria Researcher, Senior New Areas Researcher, Senior Nutrition Researcher, Senior Vaccines Researcher, and Senior Water Researcher. If, within the last year, you applied and were rejected for one of these roles, you should hold off on applying to the other roles, unless explicitly asked to do so by a member of our team. If you're interested in all of these roles, please just apply once and note in your application that you'd like to be considered for the other roles, too.
After application review, our hiring process consists of a short application exercise and up to 15 hours of compensated work trials. You can see more details about our hiring process on our
FAQs page
!
We devote significant staff capacity to initial application review, and we respond to all applications as quickly as possible.
We have a strong preference for full-time applicants, but we’ll consider applications for part-time work. We aren’t interested in reviewing applications for contract or project-based work at this time.
If we settle on an application deadline, we’ll write it in bold here. If you’re on our website job posting and don’t see a deadline, there is no deadline. If you’re reading this on an external job board and don’t see a deadline, you should double-check on our
website
.
You don't need to submit a cover letter—we rely mainly on your resume and answers to the application questions below when we're making early decisions.

Summary
GiveWell is seeking exceptional Senior Researchers to help us direct hundreds of millions of dollars annually to the most cost-effective global health and poverty alleviation programs. As part of our lean research team, you will have an outsized influence on our funding decisions and help us save and improve lives on a global scale.
You’ll create and lead ambitious research agendas, answer complex questions, and inform high-impact grantmaking decisions by combining rigorous evidence review, cost-effectiveness modeling, and thoughtful judgment.
Some Senior Researchers may eventually choose to transition into an equivalently-leveled Senior Program Officer role to lead a large grantmaking portfolio, while others choose to stay focused on leading significant research agendas. We’re open to a wide variety of internal development options depending on your preferences and our needs.
The role
Senior Researchers are the intellectual leaders of GiveWell’s work. In this role, you’ll join a small senior team in setting ambitious research agendas, sifting through the countless questions we could try to answer and honing in on those that matter most. Your decisions will inform the allocation of hundreds of millions of dollars to dozens of grantees. You’ll also communicate externally about our work and mentor and advise other members of the team.
You will shape a research agenda that brings rigor and creativity to the thorniest questions GiveWell faces. You’ll execute that agenda by combining thorough review of empirical evidence, cost-effectiveness modeling, discussions with subject matter experts, understanding of the broader context, and your own judgment. In the course of your work, you might approach questions like these:
What should we believe about the impacts of improved water quality on all-cause mortality?
What is the impact of building footbridges in rural communities?
How can we model the general equilibrium effects of cash transfers?
How should we prioritize programs that reduce poverty relative to programs that reduce deaths?
How should we think about the opportunity cost of other actors’ contributions to programs we fund?
How should we account for high levels of uncertainty in our cost-effectiveness estimates?
How do we use effects from trials conducted 30 to 40 years ago to predict impacts today?
After gaining experience on the team, Senior Researchers pursue a few pathways for career development based on their preferences and GiveWell’s needs. Some choose to develop wider and more autonomous research agendas as individual contributors, while others take on people management responsibilities. Another potential pathway is to transition into a Senior Program Officer role, which is a lateral move—we don’t conceptualize the Senior Researcher role as a training ground for program work. All of GiveWell's Senior Program Officers are also researchers with strong technical training and a penchant for sketching out a model when they’re not sure how to approach a problem.
Senior Program Officers typically own high-impact, cost-effective grantmaking portfolios by deepening their expertise, growing their networks, and understanding the broader context within a specific grantmaking area. They think through questions like:
How should we balance exploring and seeding new, smaller opportunities with funding cost-effective opportunities at scale today?
How can we triangulate empirical evidence against expert opinion on other qualitative features, like organizational track record?
What is research we can fund today that could substantially impact our grantmaking five years from now?
How much uncertainty are we willing to accept before making a grant? What key research questions do we need to answer before making a grant, and which ones can we deprioritize or answer later?
Team structure
Our research department has over 60 people, and is currently organized into eight teams:
Five of the teams (Water, Livelihoods, Nutrition, Malaria, and Vaccines) focus on specific areas of grantmaking.
The New Areas team focuses on interventions in domains that are new to GiveWell.
The Cross-Cutting team focuses on methodological issues, research quality, and other big-picture concerns that cut across all of our research work.
The Commons team provides generalized research support to each of the other teams, including landscaping research, vetting, and publishing.
New Senior Researchers typically begin on our Cross-Cutting team, where they complete a structured onboarding program with one-on-one feedback on core GiveWell skills like evidence review, cost-effectiveness analysis, and clear research writing. Onboarding usually lasts one to two months.
We generally decide which team a new hire will join by the end of onboarding. Most move onto one of our grantmaking teams (for example, malaria, nutrition, vaccines, or New Areas), and some stay on Cross-Cutting. Placement is based mainly on the research team's needs. In most cases, we won't know at the time of the offer which team someone will join, but if a candidate brings specialized expertise, we may settle on a team sooner. Once placed, team members usually stay on that team long-term.

We care deeply and centrally about finding and sharing truth.

Senior Researchers must have quantitatively-oriented advanced degrees and substantial relevant experience using empirical tools to make rigorous, evidence-based decisions in the real world. Practically, our senior research staff typically has 5-10 years of post-grad work experience prior to joining GiveWell. We're happy to consider applicants who do not have advanced degrees, but we'll look for a commensurate amount of relevant experience. You can review our staff bios

We are building AI to simulate the world through merging art and science.
We believe that world models are at the frontier of progress in artificial intelligence. Language models alone won’t solve the world’s hardest problems – robotics, disease, scientific discovery. Real progress requires models that experience the world and learn from their mistakes, the same way that humans do. And this kind of trial and error can be massively accelerated when done in simulation, rather than in the real world.
World models offer the most clear path to general-purpose simulation, changing how stories are told, how scientific progress is made and how the next frontiers of humanity are reached.
Our team consists of creative, open minded, caring and ambitious people who are determined to change the world. We aspire to continuously build impossible things and our ability to do so relies on building an incredible team. If you are driven to do the same, we'd love to hear from you.
*Titles posted to our careers page are updated regularly to best advertise the role and expected seniority, but internally we have a flat titling system with two types of titles: one for individual contributors and one for people managers.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Building general world models — systems that understand and simulate reality across tasks, modalities, and domains — demands training data that is as rich and varied as the real world itself. We’re looking for Research Engineers to own the data behind our models: what they learn from, how well they learn it, and what new capabilities that unlocks. You will design datasets, run modeling experiments, and build the infrastructure to generate and curate data at scale — directly shaping what our models can do, with applications ranging from creative tools to robotics.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Design multimodal, multitask datasets that teach world models new capabilities — deciding what data to collect, generate, or curate and measuring its effect on model behavior
- Run controlled training experiments to understand how data composition drives model performance across tasks and domains
- Build and operate large-scale pipelines for synthetic data generation, filtering, and quality control
- Define evaluations and benchmarks that measure whether our models are actually improving at the things that matter
- Partner with product and creative teams to translate target behaviors and capabilities into concrete data strategies
WHAT YOU'LL NEED
- 4+ years of experience in machine learning, bonus points for data-centric approaches
- Experience with large multimodal datasets and generative models (video, image, or multimodal)
- Deep intuition for how data composition and quality translate to model capabilities
- Comfort working across the full research stack: data analysis, dataset creation, model training, evaluation, and back again
- Proficiency with at least one ML framework (e.g. PyTorch, JAX) and distributed compute tools (e.g. Ray, Kubernetes)
- Excitement about building AI that simulates the world
Runway strives to recruit and retain exceptional talent from diverse backgrounds while ensuring pay equity for our team. Our salary ranges are based on competitive market rates for our size, stage and industry, and salary is just one part of the overall compensation package we provide.
There are many factors that go into salary determinations, including relevant experience, skill level and qualifications assessed during the interview process, and maintaining internal equity with peers on the team. The range shared below is a general expectation for the function as posted, but we are also open to considering candidates who may be more or less experienced than outlined in the job description. In this case, we will communicate any updates in the expected salary range.
Lastly, the provided range is the expected salary for candidates in the U.S. Outside of those regions, there may be a change in the range, which again, will be communicated to candidates.

Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems to the global enterprise and technology markets. Our platform, Ubuntu, is very widely used in breakthrough enterprise initiatives such as public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation and IoT. Our customers include the world's leading public cloud and silicon providers, and industry leaders in many sectors. The company is a pioneer of global distributed collaboration, with 1000+ colleagues in 70+ countries and very few office based roles. Teams meet two to four times yearly in person, in interesting locations around the world, to align on strategy and execution.
The company is founder led, profitable and growing.
We have created a new career path at Canonical for
Performance Engineers
who bring exceptional clarity to software performance, correctness and efficiency. We are adding these roles to every engineering team at the company.
As an open source platform, we have teams that work at every level of the software stack - from the kernel up through server and desktop applications, all the way to the web. We are adding roles with this focus in every engineering team in the company, to act as
drivers of performance engineering skills, tools, culture and insights to our entire product range
. We have also created a central performance engineering team, where we will drive shared tools, dashboarding capabilities, measurement frameworks, analytical capabilities and skills. We call this career focus '
percorr
' because we have found that the same deep insights that enable sophisticated performance measurement and design also enable teams to improve their harnesses and frameworks for correctness. Understanding not only the application, but the runtime, the compiler, and the system, all the way down to the CPU, gives an engineer the ability to think creatively and with insight about the right things to measure, and the right ways to verify correctness. We have found that performance engineers will often improve the deepest and trickiest areas of our test harnesses, and unblock their teams to test and measure previously 'dark' aspects of their work.
We also have teams that work with every major silicon vendor and cloud, with a particular emphasis on performance optimisation of the entire stack for that architecture, CPU family or hypervisor. Our goal is to ensure that Ubuntu users can select whatever platform they want for their workloads and know they have access to the very best performance and efficiency across the entire stack from kernel to codec.
If they wish, we will enable performance and correctness engineers to move between products every two years, so that they have the opportunity to raise the bar for performance in an array of products over time, and also that teams have the benefit of fresh eyes on their processes, thinking, harnesses, dashboards and code. Our performance and correctness leads are expected to be
truly exceptional individuals, and also leaders
who are confident setting expectations of change, sharing insights and skills, running initiatives and programs.
There is no way to move a meaningful codebase without also moving the people behind it.
This is a career path for perfectionists and precision artists. Whether you have a particular language focus - C, C++, Rust, Golang, Python, Java, Flutter-Dart or others - or a particular love of the kernel or hardware or CPU instruction set, whether you see yourself as driving perceived user experience through performance or optimising the efficiency of data centers to reduce carbon footprint, this process is the best way to find a role at Canonical that speaks to your precision, rigour, insight and drive.
Location
: We have teams in every time zone, and can accommodate applications from almost any country.
Nice-to-have skills we value
Low-level CPU insights and assembly language - understanding cache, registers, vectorization, memory
Kernel performance insights - scheduling, context switching, hardware acceleration
Distributed systems performance insights - tracing, debugging
Compiler level performance insights - profile guided optimization, inlining, assembler
Runtime performance insights - Golang, Python, JVM, NodeJS
Database performance evaluation - plans, indexing, data modelling, tracing, monitoring
Web browser performance insights - JS, web frameworks, tracing, CSS
Performance measurement tooling - profiling, eBPF, D-Trace, flamegraphs
Benchmarks and performance measurement tools - Phoronix Test Suite, others
Test harnesses and capabilities in C, C++, Rust, Python, Golang, NodeJS, JavaScript
The role entails
Drive software performance and correctness in a specific project
Collaborate with colleagues and community around the globe
Work on shared tools and infrastructure for performance measurement, analysis and reporting
Teach, train and develop skills in your team for performance culture and design
Strengthen test capabilities, harnesses and pipelines
Analyze systems and code to understand performance and scalability
Solve problems directly or through influence, leadership and skills development
Review code and technical designs
What we are looking for in you
Exceptional academic track record from both high school and university
Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Mathematics or Physics
Demonstrable personal initiatives to measure and improve performance, efficiency and correctness in code
Confidence to respectfully speak up, exchange feedback, and share ideas without hesitation
Track record of going above-and-beyond expectations to achieve outstanding results
Leadership and commitment to skills development and mentorship
Passion for technology evidenced by personal projects and initiatives
The work ethic and confidence to shine alongside motivated colleagues
Professional written and spoken English with excellent presentation skills
Experience with Linux (Debian or Ubuntu preferred)
Excellent interpersonal skills, curiosity, flexibility, and accountability
Appreciative of diversity, polite and effective in a multi-cultural, multi-national organisation
Thoughtfulness and self-motivation
Result-oriented, with a personal drive to meet commitments
Ability to travel internationally twice a year, for company events up to two weeks long
What we offer colleagues
We consider geographical location, experience, and performance in shaping compensation worldwide. We revisit compensation annually (and more often for graduates and associates) to ensure we recognise outstanding performance. In addition to base pay, we offer a performance-driven annual bonus or commission. We provide all team members with additional benefits, which reflect our values and ideals. We balance our programs to meet local needs and ensure fairness globally.
Distributed work environment with twice-yearly team sprints in person
Personal learning and development budget of USD 2,000 per year
Annual compensation review
Recognition rewards
Annual holiday leave
Maternity and paternity leave
Employee Assistance Programme
Opportunity to travel to new locations to meet colleagues

At
Automattic
, we have the power to create opportunities for people in every corner of the earth. We offer flexible, challenging, and rewarding careers with true impact and scale. You could be on the outskirts of a jungle, living a nomadic life out of a van, in a major city or a small town that doesn’t have a central business district—as long as you have an active Wi-Fi connection, you can be an Automattician.
We’re seeking experienced Technical Account Managers to join our
Newspack
team—individuals who combine strategic thinking with hands-on execution, thrive on complexity, and believe in the power of collaborative problem solving.
This role requires someone who can think strategically and work independently while thriving in a highly collaborative team environment. You'll balance technical problem solving with relationship management, applying broad experience across multiple areas rather than deep expertise in just one. The Newspack platform and its applications are vast and continuously evolving—there's no way any one person can hold it all in their brain, which makes our team's collaborative approach essential to success.
This is a blended role that combines migration project management with ongoing publisher support. You'll typically manage multiple concurrent migration projects while also contributing to our shared support responsibilities, helping publishers optimize their use of Newspack post-launch. This balance ensures that you stay connected to both the launch experience and the long-term publisher relationship, providing you with insight into the full publisher lifecycle.
The role requires flexibility and strong organizational skills to shift context between project work and support work—between heads-down, independent tasks and collaborative team problem solving. If you thrive on variety and can maintain momentum across different types of work, you'll find this structure engaging and rewarding.
As a Newspack Technical Account Manager, You Will:
Manage publisher migrations from alignment through launch, owning timelines and coordinating a variety of stakeholders across technical and business requirements. You’ll proactively navigate obstacles, make strategic decisions about scope and priorities, and ensure successful outcomes even when facing unexpected challenges. Your project management will strike a balance between thoroughness and momentum, keeping complex initiatives moving forward while maintaining quality and meeting deadlines.
Develop close relationships with news publishers by understanding their business goals, operational needs, and technical challenges. You’ll troubleshoot technical and editor-facing issues as they arise, help publishers leverage and optimize Newspack's features, set realistic expectations that align with our scope of support, and proactively identify opportunities to drive customer success.
Maintain a deep and current knowledge of the Newspack platform, WordPress functionality, and the news publishing landscape. You’ll provide top-notch guidance to publishers, identify product improvement opportunities based on publisher needs, surface bugs and feature requests, and collaborate with engineering to resolve issues. Your closeness to publishers will make you a valuable voice in shaping the product’s evolution.
Work independently using existing resources to solve problems efficiently, while actively engaging with the team to share learnings, contribute to discussions, and drive continuous improvement. You’ll participate in our highly collaborative team culture: sharing unique solutions, seeking input on complex challenges, and contributing to the collective knowledge that helps all of us serve publishers better. This balance between autonomy and collaboration is crucial to our work approach.
Develop and refine project management, time management, and communication systems to work more effectively and efficiently. You’ll document solutions, identify patterns across projects that could inform process improvements, and contribute insights from your work to enhance our workflows, product features, and publisher success strategies.
In this role, success means:
Meeting launch timelines while maintaining quality and managing scope effectively.
Building strong publisher relationships that lead to successful long-term partnerships.
Responding to publisher needs and providing timely, effective support.
Thinking strategically about both individual projects and broader process improvements.
Collaborating openly with the team, sharing knowledge, and continuously learning.
Maintaining product expertise and contributing insights that improve Newspack for all publishers.
About you:
Solid working knowledge of
WordPress
core functionality, common plugins, and the WordPress ecosystem. (You don’t need to be a developer, but you should be comfortable troubleshooting WordPress sites and understanding how things work under the hood.)
Background in client services, account management, or technical support, where you’ve managed relationships and solved problems directly with customers.
Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects with multiple stakeholders, competing priorities, and dependencies—proactively, not just reactively.
Comfort with technical troubleshooting, investigating root causes, and finding creative solutions within constraints.
Clear, professional written and verbal communication skills; ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences and set appropriate expectations.
Benefits
Open vacation policy (no set number of days per year). We encourage all employees to take the time they need for vacation, to pursue their own interests, to stay healthy, and to spend time with friends and family.
Home office setup and coworking allowances. Working from a coffee shop? You can use your coworking allowance for the requisite latte!
We happily provide or reimburse the hardware and software you’ll need, as well as books or conferences that promote continued learning.
Company-sponsored life insurance.
Open parental leave (includes maternity, paternity, and adoption). If you’ve been with Automattic for 12 months, your leave is fully paid.
A spiffy set of wireless headphones at your seven-year anniversary.
Paid two to three-month sabbaticals encouraged every five years.
We cover all costs of company travel, so dust off that passport! Your team will get together one to three times per year in locations around the globe. Other benefits are country-specific and include health, vision, and dental insurance; matching retirement/pension contributions; childcare vouchers; income protection; travel insurance; and discount offers.
Salary range: $73,000-$130,000 USD

We are looking for a passionate Design Engineer to join Runway Labs — our research and exploration team pushing the frontier of AI video and General World Models. This is not a role focused on Runway core consumer products; instead, you’ll be embedded in a fast-moving lab environment where the work is exploratory, experimental, and technical.
This candidate should be a motivated self-starter with experience working closely with engineering and research teams to rapidly prototype and ship. You'll explore new interfaces and interaction paradigms for AI generated video, world models, and agentic systems helping translate cutting-edge research into tangible, usable experiences.
This role requires a blend of design skills and technical expertise, along with a genuine passion for both. As part of a small team, you’ll collaborate with researchers, engineers, and product designers to develop concept prototypes, design high-value interactive features, and build tools that enable new creative and research workflows.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Prototype and implement novel user experiences at the intersection of AI video, world models, and emerging generative media
- Design and build agentic tools and interfaces that allow researchers and creatives to interact with and direct AI systems in real time
- Explore new application areas for AI video and general world models — from simulation and interactive media to research tooling
- Stretch the limits of front-end engineering to broaden what’s possible in research and experimentation contexts
- Create internal tools and frameworks used across design and engineering teams at Runway Labs
- Work alongside researchers, engineers, and product designers to shape how we think about the future of AI-driven creativity
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
- Genuine curiosity about AI video, world models, agentic engineering and generative media and an intuition for how to design meaningful interactions with these systems
- Experience designing flows, prototypes, and high-fidelity UIs for web and agentic products
- Experience building agentic tools or interfaces — i.e., systems where AI takes actions, reasons over state, or drives multi-step workflows
- Strong understanding of visual and interaction design, as well as usability testing
- Comfort working in ambiguous, research oriented environments where the problem space is still being defined
- Strong understanding of visual and interaction design, as well as usability testing.
