About the role 💭
We’re looking for a commercially minded, AI-native BDR who enjoys understanding what technical teams are building and finding thoughtful ways to start conversations with them. You’ll combine account research, AI-assisted prospecting and engagement with the startup community to create qualified opportunities for our sales team. This is a hands-on outbound role: researching accounts, reaching out, following up and qualifying prospects are central to the job.
Responsibilities ✔️
- Creative Outbound Prospecting: Generate new leads through targeted outbound activities, including cold calls, emails, LinkedIn outreach, events and other channels. We are looking for resourcefulness and innovation crafting new outbound strategies.
- AI-Powered Workflows: Build and improve lightweight AI-assisted workflows for account research, identifying relevant buying signals and preparing outreach. Validate sources, review messages before sending and use results to refine your approach. The goal is more relevant conversations and qualified opportunities, not automation or message volume for its own sake.
- Account Research: Research and identify key prospects, decision-makers, and stakeholders within target accounts to tailor your outreach efforts. Understand what a company is actually building — their stack, their auth setup, their scaling problems.
- Lead Qualification: Engage with prospects to understand their pain points, business needs, and how WorkOS can help solve their challenges, qualifying them for the sales team.
- Pipeline Development: Set up high-quality meetings and demos for Account Executives by nurturing leads through the sales funnel.
- CRM Hygiene: Diligently log all prospecting activities, conversations, and pipeline data in Salesforce (or other CRM systems) to maintain accurate records and forecast pipeline health.
- Metrics-Driven: Meet and exceed monthly quotas for outbound activities, including the number of meetings set, emails sent, calls made, and qualified opportunities created.
- Continuous Learning: Stay up-to-date on industry trends, WorkOS product developments, competitor offerings, and what's changing in AI and developer tooling — so you can position yourself as a trusted advisor to technical buyers.
Qualifications 🌟
- Experience: You have experience creating opportunities for a product, business or community. That could come from sales development, growth, partnerships, community building, a startup or your own project. A BDR title isn’t required, but you should be able to explain how you identified an audience, earned their attention, followed up and turned interest into a meaningful next step.
- Target Personas: Experience outbounding to cofounders and CTOs.
- AI-Native: You have personally built or materially improved an AI-assisted workflow and used it in practice. You can explain the problem, how the workflow works, what you contributed and how you checked its output. You know where automation helps and where human judgment is essential, and can describe what improved or what you changed when it failed.
- Community Engagement: You actively engage with startup or technical communities and can share how you have contributed, learned from others or built useful relationships. This might happen through your work, online discussions, events, customer communities or a project. We value curiosity, consistent contribution and thoughtful follow-through, not the size of your network or who you know.
- Writing Skills: Able to independently craft messages and campaigns to technical leaders. You use AI to draft and scale, but you have the judgment to know when the output isn't good enough to send.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to craft personalized messages that resonate with different audiences.
- Technical Aptitude: Comfort with understanding technical products and effectively communicating the value of WorkOS to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Bonus if you can read API docs, poke at a codebase, or have shipped something yourself.
- Tools: Experience with a modern sales stack and AI tools. Examples include Salesforce, Gong, Loom, Outreach, Claude, ChatGPT and Clay; experience with these specific tools is not required.
- Curiosity & Adaptability: Willingness to learn, adapt quickly to new strategies, and stay curious about the industry and your prospects' needs.
- Self-Starter: Highly motivated, self-sufficient, and able to manage your time effectively.
- You are located in the greater San Francisco Bay Area, able to work locally, available for in-person meetings with clients and customers, and able to attend in-person events as needed.

Our fast-growing customer base includes hundreds of modern software companies building the next generation of enterprise-ready products.
ABOUT THE ROLE 💭
The Platform team builds the shared backend components and development systems that every WorkOS product, workflow, and team member depends on.
On the platform side, we build common backend capabilities used across WorkOS, including our events infrastructure, webhooks, email delivery, outbox-pattern queues, and more. These systems allow product teams to scale without rebuilding the same critical primitives. Because they sit on critical paths across our products, scalability, latency, consistency, reliability, and operational simplicity matter deeply.
On the productivity side, we build the systems that take code from an idea to production, including CI/CD, build and test infrastructure, deployment workflows, and internal tooling. As agents play a larger role in software development and increase the volume of code and concurrent changes, we are rethinking this platform to scale with that volume through safe execution, fast feedback, relevant context, and verifiable outcomes.
Our internal teams are our customers. Success means they can build and operate products faster, adopt shared capabilities instead of creating one-off solutions, and confidently delegate more work to agents.
WHAT YOU’LL WORK ON ✔️
- Design, build, and operate high-throughput, low-latency shared backend systems that preserve consistency and durability through retries, duplicates, reordering, partial failures, and high concurrency
- Create platform interfaces, abstractions, and paved paths with a clean developer experience that makes shared capabilities easy for product teams to adopt
- Rotate across and embed with product teams to experience their workflows directly, understand their friction, and use those insights to shape platform investments
- Map evolving product-team needs and collaborate with the Foundations team to introduce new systems and primitives, such as scalable search, database partitioning, and archival strategies
- Own and evolve our CI/CD, build, test, deployment, and release infrastructure to shorten feedback loops and make production changes safer
- Reimagine CI/CD for an agentic software development lifecycle by building isolated, reproducible, and verifiable execution environments, along with automated loops that allow agents to diagnose failures, update changes, rerun validation, and safely move work through review, deployment, and production verification
- Instrument the entire software development lifecycle and use metrics such as feedback time, CI reliability, deployment frequency, lead time, and change failure rate to identify bottlenecks and verify that platform investments improve engineering outcomes
- Own platform reliability end to end, including observability, capacity planning, incident response, root-cause analysis, and prevention
- Shape the long-term platform strategy with a high bar for introducing new infrastructure. Thoroughly evaluate vendors and existing solutions, make deliberate build-versus-buy decisions, and account for operational complexity, lock-in, migration cost, reversibility, and long-term ownership
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR 🌟
- 8+ years of software development experience, with a track record of owning high-impact technical projects
- Experience building and operating distributed systems or platform services at scale, with a strong understanding of event-driven systems, queues, concurrency, idempotency, consistency, backpressure, retries, and failure recovery
- Experience building or operating CI/CD, build systems, test infrastructure, deployment platforms, or similar developer tooling
- A track record of designing platforms, frameworks, and tooling with a clean developer experience that makes complex capabilities easy for other engineers to adopt and operate
- Strong operational instincts across observability, capacity planning, incident response, and reliability
- Hands-on experience with AI coding agents, or a strong interest in building agentic CI/CD systems, verifiable execution environments, automated feedback loops, evaluations, and verification
- Exceptional pragmatism and technical judgment. You treat major infrastructure changes with the gravity they deserve and make deliberate, evidence-based decisions about when to build, buy, or improve an existing system
- Ability to move between long-term architecture and hands-on implementation while making thoughtful tradeoffs in an ambiguous environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience documenting systems and influencing technical direction across teams
- Familiarity with TypeScript, Node.js, React, Postgres, AWS, Terraform, and queueing or streaming systems such as SQS and Kinesis is helpful, but not required
We expect strong depth in either distributed platform systems or developer infrastructure, along with an interest in working across both.

How we're different
We believe that the highest-impact AI research will be big science. At Anthropic we work as a single cohesive team on just a few large-scale research efforts. And we value impact — advancing our long-term goals of steerable, trustworthy AI — rather than work on smaller and more specific puzzles. We view AI research as an empirical science, which has as much in common with physics and biology as with traditional efforts in computer science. We're an extremely collaborative group, and we host frequent research discussions to ensure that we are pursuing the highest-impact work at any given time. As such, we greatly value communication skills.
The easiest way to understand our research directions is to read our recent research. This research continues many of the directions our team worked on prior to Anthropic, including: GPT-3, Circuit-Based Interpretability, Multimodal Neurons, Scaling Laws, AI & Compute, Concrete Problems in AI Safety, and Learning from Human Preferences.

Come work with us!
Anthropic is a public benefit corporation headquartered in San Francisco. We offer competitive compensation and benefits, optional equity donation matching, generous vacation and parental leave, flexible working hours, and a lovely office space in which to collaborate with colleagues.
