An overview of this role
As an Intermediate Backend Engineer on GitLab's Security Factory: Code Scanning team, you'll help developers find and fix security issues in their code by contributing to the static analysis engine that finds them.
Your work spans both the engine and the tools we use to evaluate it. You'll extend how the engine models programs, from parsing source code and resolving symbols to building call graphs and tracking tainted data across files and languages. You'll also build and apply tooling to test its findings against benchmark applications with known vulnerabilities, measuring both false positives and missed vulnerabilities.
We build the engine with artificial intelligence (AI) agents that write and review code from written specifications, under human direction. You'll implement component specifications within the team's architecture, working with engineers and AI agents. Good judgment about when to trust agent output, and when to bring it to human review, is central to the role.
What you'll do
Extend the program model, including parsing, symbol resolution, intermediate representations, call graphs, and taint and data-flow analysis, to support new languages and frameworks.
Build and apply AI-assisted tooling to implement, review, and validate engine changes and findings, in collaboration with the team's technical leadership. Measure detection quality against known vulnerabilities, judging changes primarily on false positive and false negative rates.
Develop static application security testing (SAST) rules mapped to Common Weakness Enumeration (CWE) and the Open Worldwide Application Security Project (OWASP), along with test fixtures that demonstrate they work.
Implement component specifications with engineers and AI agents through phased plans and small, reviewable changes. Keep specifications and code in sync.
Improve the harness, agent instructions, and skills that keep agent-written code trustworthy. Use separate coding and reviewing agents, performance checks, application programming interface (API) checks, and dependency checks, and escalate risky changes to human review.
Solve technical problems of moderate scope and complexity, and identify and address technical debt that slows the team down.
Write maintainable code that meets our internal standards, and help maintain those standards through code review.
Participate in on-call rotations to help troubleshoot product operations, security operations, and urgent engineering issues.
Take part in on-call or operational support where your team’s ownership model requires it.
What you'll bring
Experience using AI or large language model (LLM) tools to generate or evaluate technical content, with the judgment to assess when their output is trustworthy.
Solid professional experience writing and testing production code in a systems language, particularly Rust or Go. Our engine is written in Rust, the analyzer wrapper in Go, and the monolith integration in Ruby. You'll be willing to work across them.
An interest in static analysis and application security, including parsing, intermediate representations, taint and data-flow analysis, and how vulnerabilities arise in code. Deep expertise isn't required; we'll help you grow it.
Organize and progress your work independently in a remote, largely asynchronous environment.
The ability to communicate technical problems clearly and concisely and propose iterative solutions.
Helpful but not required: experience with performance optimization, Docker and continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD), web or mobile frameworks, guardrails for agent-written code such as mutation testing and fuzzing, or program analysis and security research through publications or open source contributions. Willingness to learn performance optimization and containerized workflows is also welcome.
About the team
The Security Factory: Code Scanning team develops GitLab's SAST capabilities for customer software repositories. We work closely with the Code Security team on scanning rules and flows, with Composition Analysis on the broader software supply chain, and with other groups across the Sec section. We rely heavily on asynchronous work across time zones.
At GitLab, our mission is simple: to enable everyone to contribute to and co-create the software that powers our world.

An overview of this role
We're looking for a strategic, data-driven owner for about.gitlab.com, the site where developers, platform teams and enterprise buyers first meet GitLab. You'll build a performance-based strategy for where the site goes next, align partners around it, and see it through: from the roadmap and experimentation program to the pages behind every major product launch and event.
You set direction and orchestrate the work; you don't need to build it yourself.
What You'll Do
Build a performance-based strategy and quarterly roadmap for about.gitlab.com, tied to pipeline and self-serve trial goals, and align Marketing leadership and partners around it.
Set the experimentation roadmap based on business goals and manage the optimization program, partnering with User Experience (UX) Design so design shapes what we test from the start.
Own launch page production for major product launches and events, from calendar and brief to launch readiness and post-launch cleanup, with UX Design, Product Marketing, Content and Marketing Engineering.
Set direction for information architecture and content governance, so a site with many contributors stays coherent, on brand and easy for search and artificial intelligence (AI) answer engines to understand.
Represent content contributors on the content management system (CMS) roadmap, and bring AI into their workflows with clear guardrails for human review.
Build a two-way partnership with localization content managers so learnings flow between the English and localized sites.
Define the site's success metrics (conversion on key paths, site-sourced pipeline, test velocity and win rate, on-time launches) and report progress to Marketing leadership.
What You'll Bring
Experience owning strategy for a high-traffic business-to-business software-as-a-service website, ideally one with many audiences and contributors.
A track record of setting an experimentation roadmap and running a program that delivered measurable conversion or pipeline lift.
Experience running website launches across design, content, product marketing and engineering teams.
Skill at turning analytics, research and A/B test results into clear priorities.
The ability to lead through influence: you build credibility with designers, engineers and marketers, and act as a partner, not a gatekeeper.
Technical fluency with modern websites and content management systems, enough to make tradeoffs with engineers. You don't need to write production code.
Curiosity about AI and experience using it to improve content or web workflows.
Clear, concise asynchronous writing and the ability to thrive in GitLab's all-remote, handbook-first culture.
Bonus points: experience marketing to developers, running localized sites, or working with technical search engine optimization (SEO) and answer engine optimization (AEO).
About the team
You'll lead through a dedicated team of specialists in UX design, technical SEO, AEO, marketing analytics, content, paid and campaigns, and partner with Marketing Engineering to ship.
If this role excites you but you don't meet every requirement, we still encourage you to apply.

An overview of this role
As a Journey Architect on GitLab's Digital Customer Outcomes team, you'll design journeys that turn meaningful customer actions into retention, consumption and revenue outcomes. You'll own journey design and service blueprints for assigned customer cohorts, products or coverage models, leading cross-functional work from design through launch. Digital Orchestration builds and runs the journeys day to day; you'll remain accountable for their outcomes and ongoing improvement. You'll add design capacity to help priority journeys, including artificial intelligence (AI) and consumption journeys, launch in fiscal year 2028 (FY28).
What you’ll do
Design journeys backward from business outcomes to meaningful customer actions, audiences and engagement tactics. Map each cohort's intended path, timing, signals that customers need help and interventions to get them back on track.
Decide which steps are self-serve, AI-assisted or human-led, and define the handoffs between them. Design across in-product guidance, email, events and community, choosing the right channel for each moment.
Build service blueprints with Customer Experience (CX) Operations, documenting the people, systems, data, content and handoffs behind each touchpoint. Give every step a trigger, a response, an owner and a metric.
Write journey specifications covering steps, triggers, audiences, channels, content, handoffs and metrics. Set build plans, coordinate partner teams and clear dependencies to launch on time and to specification.
Specify the content and self-service resources each step needs, and work with content teams to create and govern them. Partner with Lifecycle Marketing on audience, sequencing and delivery so customers experience one coordinated journey.
Hand live journeys to Digital Orchestration to run, remain accountable for their outcomes and build in regular optimization cycles with the Digital Outcomes team's Data/Insights partner.
Measure journey coverage, step conversion, lift against comparison groups, meaningful actions, recovery after interventions, time to value and influence on retention. Track partner adoption of the shared journeys and blueprints.
Apply the framework and standards set by the Lead Journey Architect, and help improve them based on what your journeys teach the team.
What you’ll bring
Experience in customer journey design, service design or digital customer success.
A track record of turning journey designs into launched programs with measurable outcomes.
Hands-on experience building service blueprints and designing handoffs between digital and human teams.
Working knowledge of journey orchestration, in-app guidance and marketing automation platforms.
Comfort defining customer signals and success metrics, and interpreting funnel conversion and test results.
Experience leading cross-functional work through launch without direct authority.
Experience in business-to-business software as a service is helpful, as is domain knowledge of development and operations (DevOps) or development, security and operations (DevSecOps).
Please note that we welcome interest from candidates with varying levels of experience; many successful candidates do not meet every single requirement. Additionally, studies have shown that people from underrepresented groups are less likely to apply to a job unless they meet every single qualification. If you're excited about this role, please apply and allow our recruiters to assess your application.

THE ADVENTURE AHEAD
As a Senior Product Engineer (full-stack with a back-end focus), you bring strong expertise in backend engineering alongside the ability and willingness to work across the full stack. You own features end to end, working across customer facing applications, services, APIs, and integration boundaries to deliver complete product outcomes.
Your primary strength may be building cloud native backend services and event driven systems, or developing complex frontend experiences and application architecture. We do not expect equal specialization in every part of the stack. We value strong fundamentals, depth in your primary area, and the ability to contribute effectively across system boundaries.
You work closely with Product, Design, QA, and other engineers to understand customer problems, make sound technical decisions, and take solutions from idea through production and iteration.
THE DAY TO DAY
- Own features end to end Take customer and product problems from discovery and technical design through implementation, production deployment, and iteration.
- Build across the stack Work across frontend applications, APIs, backend services, and integration layers to deliver complete customer outcomes.
- Bring technical depth Contribute strong expertise in your primary discipline while developing a broader understanding of the systems and technologies around it.
- Make good technical decisions Participate in architecture discussions, evaluate tradeoffs, and shape solutions that are scalable, maintainable, and pragmatic.
- Stay close to the product Partner with Product and Design to understand customer needs and translate them into effective technical solutions.
- Drive engineering excellence Contribute to strong testing, CI/CD, observability, code quality, and technical debt practices.
- Collaborate across functions Work with Engineering, Product, Design, QA, and platform teams to break down complex problems and deliver high quality software.
- Grow the team Support other engineers through code reviews, pairing, technical discussions, and knowledge sharing.
YOUR SUPERPOWERS
- Engineering depth and breadth Four to six or more years of software engineering experience, with strong expertise in either backend or frontend engineering and practical experience across the broader stack.
- End to end ownership Experience taking features from technical design through development, deployment, and production support.
- Strong fundamentals A solid understanding of software design, APIs, application architecture, testing, and maintainable production software.
- Cloud awareness Experience with cloud environments such as AWS and familiarity with modern CI/CD and observability practices.
- Product mindset The ability to understand customer problems, navigate ambiguity, and balance technical quality with meaningful delivery.
- Collaborative communication The ability to explain technical tradeoffs and work effectively across Engineering, Product, Design, and QA.
BONUS POINTS
- Cloud and event driven systems AWS serverless technologies, asynchronous workflows, distributed systems, or event driven architecture.
- Infrastructure and delivery Infrastructure as Code using CDK, Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar tools, plus CI/CD or deployment experience.
- Frontend architecture Large frontend applications, component architecture, state management, design systems, accessibility, or performance.
- Backend breadth Node.js and TypeScript services or experience with Go, Python, PHP, or other backend technologies.
- Production observability Monitoring, tracing, structured logging, metrics, and production diagnosis.
OUR STACK
Our product teams work primarily with TypeScript across frontend and backend development. Frontend applications include Angular and modern web technologies. Backend and platform systems span Node.js, TypeScript, Go, PHP, Python, AWS, REST APIs, event driven architectures, relational and NoSQL databases, CI/CD, and modern observability tooling.
You do not need deep expertise in every technology we use. We are looking for engineers with depth in a primary discipline, strong software engineering fundamentals, and the ability to become effective quickly in unfamiliar systems.

Senior Backend Engineer
As a Senior Backend Engineer on our Cloud Cost and Capacity capability, you'll build the internal software that helps us understand, attribute, and plan the cloud infrastructure that runs GitLab.com. You'll turn Google Cloud billing and usage data into pipelines, attribution models, and applications that help service owners understand what they consume and spend, plan reservations, and prevent capacity shortages.
You'll be the first engineer dedicated to this capability, setting the technical direction and building the foundations a growing team will extend. You'll treat cloud cost and capacity as one roadmap, choosing the architecture, data models, and tools that let service owners manage their usage and spending.
What you'll do
Build data pipelines that turn Google Cloud billing exports and Cloud Monitoring telemetry into a clean, queryable picture of fleet usage and utilization in BigQuery.
Attribute shared cost and usage across Google Kubernetes Engine clusters to the teams and services that drive them, using foundations such as OpenCost and Google Kubernetes Engine cost allocation.
Develop capacity and demand tooling that profiles infrastructure needs by machine family and region to support reservation planning and prevent capacity shortages.
Ship internal applications that let engineers and budget owners see and act on their cloud footprint, replacing manual snapshots and spreadsheets with software.
Establish the data models, services, and engineering standards that future team members will extend, and help shape technical direction and hiring as we grow.
Partner with Finance, product teams, service owners, and infrastructure engineers to turn their needs into technical designs.
Use artificial intelligence in your daily engineering workflow to improve efficiency and outcomes, as we expect of all GitLab team members.
Take part in on-call or operational support where your team’s ownership model requires it.
What you'll bring
A track record of designing and shipping production backend services that you've owned end to end, beyond operating existing systems.
Strong structured query language (SQL) skills with large datasets, experience building and maintaining data pipelines and models, and comfort working with cloud billing and usage data.
Working knowledge of a major cloud platform, preferably Google Cloud, including compute services, Kubernetes, and pricing and billing models.
Proficiency in a general-purpose programming language for tooling and pipelines. We value your ability to build and ship over mastery of a single language; Go and Python suit this work, and we use Ruby across our product code.
The ability to break a new problem into milestones and drive it to production with light direction, communicating clearly in a remote, asynchronous environment.
Helpful, not required: OpenCost, Kubecost, or Google Kubernetes Engine cost allocation; cloud financial management (FinOps) practices or certification; cost or capacity modeling, forecasting, or anomaly detection; Terraform; Looker, Looker Studio, or Grafana; founding engineering work; or artificial intelligence in engineering workflows.
About the team
We're part of the Cloud Cost Utilization team within Infrastructure Platforms, working with Fleet Management. We partner with Finance, product teams, service owners, and infrastructure engineers as our service-ownership model matures. You'll work with us asynchronously, using clear written communication to turn our partners' needs into technical designs.

An overview of this role
As a Senior Backend Engineer on Development Health, you'll help make the systems that engineering teams rely on more reliable, maintainable, and easier to extend. You'll build and improve the automation, tooling, and data that help teams spot problems early and ship with less friction.
As customer zero for GitLab, we support engineering workflows on GitLab's own product at scale. You'll use the product in demanding, real-world ways, surface the friction and gaps you find, and contribute to improvements that get built into the product for GitLab's customers.
You'll support work such as:
Health alerting and remediation routing for GitLab's core continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines
Flaky and slow test detection systems
Engineering analytics and reporting that engineering teams use to make decisions
What you’ll do
Own and evolve core Development Health systems, from design through production.
Improve the reliability, maintainability, and test coverage of long-lived automation, and reduce reliance on undocumented knowledge by documenting and simplifying legacy systems.
Partner with engineering managers and product teams to identify workflow pain points and turn them into well-scoped, measurable improvements.
Work with data to show whether changes improve engineering health, and use it to prioritize.
Mentor intermediate engineers through code review, design feedback, and pairing.
Communicate clearly in writing and asynchronously, including status, tradeoffs, and proposals for stakeholders across Engineering.
Monitor the health of production systems, troubleshoot incidents, and contribute to root cause analysis.
Use artificial intelligence (AI) agents and assistants to analyze issues and problem areas to help shape the team's product roadmap.
Take part in on-call or operational support where your team’s ownership model requires it.
What you’ll bring
Substantial experience as a backend or tooling engineer, with a track record of owning production systems end to end.
Strong proficiency in Ruby, or the ability to become productive quickly.
Experience maintaining or modernizing legacy codebases safely.
Comfort with CI/CD systems, application programming interfaces (APIs), and automation at scale.
Independent problem-solving and clear, concise written communication: you spot problems early, raise risks proactively, and drive work to completion without close direction.
Experience writing automated unit and integration tests and taking part in collaborative code review.
Experience using AI coding assistants to speed up development while critically reviewing their output.
Optional experience: Rails; developer productivity, engineering analytics, or internal tooling; GitLab's product and open source contribution workflow; data pipelines or metrics reporting; or agent-based workflows that run in production.
About the team
Development Health is part of Developer Experience. Our work is mostly internal, and our customers are GitLab team members across an engineering organization of hundreds of engineers.
We're all-remote, asynchronous by default, and documentation-driven, in line with GitLab's values of collaboration, results, efficiency, diversity, inclusion and belonging, iteration, and transparency.
