- Experience designing reward functions and training RL policies in simulated environments; solid understanding of common failure modes (reward hacking, distribution shift, sim-to-real gap).
- Experience with NVIDIA Isaac Sim & IsaacLab specifically.
- Experience with domain randomization, system identification, or other sim-to-real transfer techniques.
- Publications at top-tier robotics or RL conferences or equivalent open-source contributions.
- Familiarity with robocasa, robosuite or similar open-source manipulation simulation frameworks.
WHAT WE OFFER
- Competitive equity: stock options with meaningful upside as we scale.
- 30+ paid days off, including 23 days of annual leave, all UK bank holidays, and additional company closure days (including Christmas–New Year shutdown).
- Private healthcare, including virtual and in-person care.

About the Job:
As a Staff Engineer on LaunchDarkly's Experimentation team, you'll build the platform that helps engineering teams make data-driven decisions with confidence. Our Experimentation product enables customers to run A/B tests, measure the impact of feature changes, and optimize experiences — integrated with a feature management platform that processes trillions of evaluations daily.
This role sits at the intersection of data science and platform engineering. You'll design the statistical engine, warehouse-native analysis pipelines, and adaptive experimentation systems (including contextual bandits) that power our customers' most important decisions. We want someone who brings genuine depth in applied statistics and ML — as fluent in statistical validity as in system architecture.
You'll also architect warehouse-agnostic features that run analysis directly inside customers' data warehouses (Snowflake, Databricks, Redshift, BigQuery) — modular computation layers that abstract across warehouse environments while maintaining statistical correctness.
Deep technical experience, a scientific mindset, and the ability to influence product and technical direction are critical. You'll lead by example: setting the bar for rigor, mentoring teammates, and owning systems end to end, including on-call.
Responsibilities:
Build the experimentation statistical engine — hypothesis testing, sequential analysis, variance reduction (
CUPED
, Winsorization), power analysis. Ensure statistical correctness across all experiment types.
Design warehouse-native experimentation that runs analysis inside customer warehouses (Snowflake, Databricks, Redshift, BigQuery). Build modular, warehouse-agnostic abstractions for rapid new backend support.
Lead adaptive experimentation — contextual bandit systems, Bayesian optimization, automated allocation beyond simple A/B tests.
Drive the platform roadmap with product, design, and data science. Shape what we build, not just how.
Collaborate cross-functionally with Warehouse Integrations, SDK, Platform, and Data Science teams.
Mentor engineers and raise the team's bar for statistical rigor and system design.
Own operational excellence — monitoring, observability, incident response, on-call. Robust telemetry and alerting.
Qualifications:
10+ years building large-scale experimentation platforms, statistical analysis systems, or data-intensive backend services.
Applied-statistics knowledge: hypothesis testing, sequential analysis, variance reduction (
CUPED
), power analysis, experiment design. Comfortable with frequentist vs. Bayesian trade-offs.
Experience with adaptive experimentation ML — contextual bandits, Thompson sampling, Bayesian optimization, or
RL
-based allocation.
Track record designing warehouse-agnostic systems across Snowflake, Databricks, Redshift, BigQuery, or similar.
Expertise in Go, Python, or similar for backend services and statistical computation.
Experience with event-driven architectures, data pipelines, and large-scale data processing.
Cloud environments (AWS, GCP) with infrastructure-as-code.
Technical leadership: setting direction, breaking down complex problems, influencing across teams.
Ability to translate statistical concepts for product and engineering audiences.

WHAT WE OFFER
- Competitive equity: stock options with meaningful upside as we scale.
- 30+ days time off, including 23 days annual leave, all UK bank holidays, and additional company closure days (including Christmas–New Year shutdown).
- Private healthcare, including virtual and in-person care.
- Pension scheme with 8% total contribution (5% employee, 3% employer) on full earnings.
- Free daily breakfast, catered lunch, and snacks in-office.
- Work at the frontier - collaborate daily with world-class engineers, researchers, and product experts building the next generation of AI and humanoid robotics.
- Real ownership - direct access to founding leadership, meaningful input on product direction, and the ability to drive key initiatives from day one.

The Role
As Director / Senior Director of Platform Software Engineering, you will own the software platform that powers every Nex Playground in the world — from the moment a family unboxes the device through years of daily play. You will lead end‑to‑end across PlayOS (our Android‑based device OS) and cloud services: OS that gives hardware life, OTA updates that reach a growing global fleet, the Play Pass subscription engine, and the compliance infrastructure that lets us launch in new countries with confidence. You will drive architectural direction, set engineering standards, and grow a high‑performing team. You'll stay hands‑on when it counts most and know when to let your leaders lead.
The Mindset
First‑principles, customer‑obsessed, decisive. Perseveres to the highest standards and challenges assumptions. Resilient through production incidents, coachable at every level. Grows engineers into owners and leaders. Empathetic, leads with trust, gives tough feedback, builds a culture of accountability. Executes with discipline — insists on engineering excellence to deliver reliable, secure outcomes at scale.
Success Looks Like
Millions of Playgrounds worldwide, reliably updated over the air. PlayOS that delights families from first unbox through years of daily play — across every market Nex enters. Standards that let the team ship fast with confidence. Strong leaders in your team across device and cloud who own outcomes independently. The platform behind every game, every feature, every market launch.
