WHO ARE WE?
Cohere is the leading security-first enterprise AI company. We build cutting-edge foundation AI models and end-to-end products that are designed to solve real-world business problems.
We’re training and deploying frontier models for enterprises who are building AI systems. We believe that our work is instrumental to the widespread adoption of AI and we are looking for folks that want to be part of that.
We obsess over what we build. Each one of us is responsible for contributing to increasing the capabilities of our models and the value they drive for our customers. Cohere is a team of researchers, engineers, designers, and more, who are all passionate about their craft.
We are a global technology company headquartered in Toronto with key offices in London, New York City, San Francisco, Montreal, Paris, Berlin and Seoul. Join us!
Why this role?
The Data Infrastructure team at Cohere is responsible for the storage and data movement layer underlying every model training run. We're building the unified storage layer that feeds our training workloads. It needs to serve petabytes of training data and model checkpoints fast enough to keep thousands of GPUs busy across several training clusters. In this role, you’d have an opportunity to build this system from the ground up. You’d be a key contributor, working on a problem few teams have had to solve at this scale.
In this role, you will:
- Design, build, and operate the distributed storage system that feeds model training and evaluation.
- Run this system multiple on Kubernetes clusters at petabyte scale.
- Work with researchers and training-infra teams on how jobs actually read and write data, and turn that into throughput, latency, and durability requirements
- Work through the networking, I/O, and consistency problems of moving large datasets and checkpoints across regions and backends, with GPU idle time and time-to-insight as the measures of success
You may be a good fit if you have:
- Strong storage fundamentals, including replication, consistency, caching, and data lifecycle management.
- Strong coding ability. We work in Python and Go; experience in either is enough, but you should be willing to pick up the other
- Experience running stateful systems on Kubernetes, including Persistent Volumes, CSI drivers, and StatefulSets.
- Hands-on experience with cloud object storage such as S3 as well as POSIX-style filesystems.
It’s a bonus if you have:
- Experience with parallel or HPC filesystems such as Weka, VAST, or Lustre.
- Familiarity with the data-loading and checkpointing patterns used in large-scale model training.
- An interest in how large models are trained and evaluated, including the trajectory and eval data those runs generate, and a desire to understand the workloads the platform is serving.
FULL-TIME EMPLOYEES AT COHERE ENJOY THESE PERKS:
- A weekly lunch stipend of $75/£75 or equivalent in your local currency for lunch.
- Full health and dental benefits, including a separate budget for mental health.
- RRSP matching, 401K, Pension Scheme.
- 100% Parental Leave top-up for up to 6 months, for either parent.
- Annual enrichment benefits:
Arts & culture, fitness/wellness, quality time, and a workspace improvement credit.
Education & learning stipend for conferences, courses, and coaching.
- 6 weeks of paid vacation (30 working days!)
- Budget for traveling to other offices if you are remote, plus an annual company offsite.
HOW AND WHERE WE WORK:
- Cohere is remote-friendly, but we also have offices in Toronto, London, New York City, San Francisco, Montreal, Paris, Berlin and Seoul with more opening soon.
- For those in the office: a daily lunch program, plenty of snacks, and regular community and social events.
- For those not near an office: a co-working benefit so you can work alongside others in your city.
- Everyone receives a $500 home office stipend to set up your workspace properly.
If any of the above doesn’t line up exactly with your experience, we still encourage you to apply.
We strive to create an inclusive work environment for all; we welcome applicants from all backgrounds and are committed to providing equal opportunities. Should you require any accommodations during the recruitment process, please submit an Accommodations Request Form https://docs.google.com/forms/d/12a6IrLdF3kI2nonKSr4tiFuz18rLQbaeYV-JM9L4o9Q/edit, and we will work together to meet your needs.
We may use AI-enabled tools to screen and assess applicants against the criteria for this position. This helps our recruiters identify potentially qualified candidates, but it doesn't limit the applications our recruiters may review or consider.
Beware of Scams: Cohere will never ask for payment or third-party services (e.g., CV writing) as part of our hiring process. All legitimate roles are listed on the Cohere careers page and LinkedIn only, with all communications from Cohere employees coming from an @cohere.com or @cw.cohere email alias. GiveWell’s mission is to help people in need as much as we can by researching the most cost‑effective ways to save and improve lives, sharing our work openly, and directing donations to the programs we believe will do the most good. Our work, which focuses on global health and well-being, is funded by tens of thousands of donors who rely on our research to inform their giving. We’ve grown from directing $1.5 million in 2010 to directing more than $400 million in 2025. We anticipate our total grantmaking is likely to approach or even exceed $1 billion this year, and we are working toward a future that could be several times that scale. Through years of deliberate groundwork, we’ve been growing our research capacity and scope in order to direct substantially more funding to the most impactful opportunities we can find.
Summary
GiveWell is seeking a Senior Researcher on our Cross-Cutting team to help us make better funding decisions across our entire portfolio. The Cross-Cutting team works on methodological questions, research quality, and big-picture problems that don't sit naturally inside any single program area.
Cross-Cutting team’s work has included pressure-testing our work through retrospective evaluations of completed grants (
"lookbacks"
) and scrutinizing grantmaking areas (
"red teaming"
), collecting
more on-the-ground quantitative and qualitative information
to check what our grantmaking might be missing, looking for
ways to use AI
to improve our research process, experimenting with new ways to
solicit feedback
, figuring out how to quantify the
“value of information”
in our grantmaking, and answering
thorny research questions
that affect our entire portfolio.
As a Senior Cross-Cutting Researcher, you'll shape ambitious research agendas that cut across GiveWell's portfolios and answer complex questions that inform grantmaking decisions across the organization. The researchers on our team combine rigorous evidence review, cost-effectiveness modeling, and thoughtful judgment.
We're open to a wide variety of professional development pathways depending on your preferences and our needs.
The role
You will be joining a small team focused on the methodological and cross-portfolio questions that shape how GiveWell does research. You'll sift through the countless questions we could try to answer, hone in on those that matter most, and partner with grantmaking teams (Malaria, Water, Nutrition, Vaccines, Livelihoods, New Areas) to pressure-test and extend their work. You'll also communicate externally about your work and mentor and advise other researchers on the team.
You will shape a research agenda that brings rigor and creativity to the thorniest questions GiveWell faces across its grantmaking. Your work will combine empirical evidence review and critical synthesis, cost-effectiveness modeling, discussions with subject matter experts, understanding of the broader context, and your own judgment. In the course of your work, you might approach questions like:
Are our grants actually achieving what we predicted? How do we know, and how can we improve our decisions over time?
How do we systematically incorporate field insights, monitoring data, and external feedback into our work?
How do we design M&E systems that tell us whether grants are working, not just whether grantees are reporting what we asked for?
How can we use AI tools to speed up or increase the quality of our work?
How should we model spillover effects? Do health programs affect income, and vice versa? Are we consistent in how we handle this across program areas?
How should we set our cost-effectiveness bar over time when funding and spending vary unpredictably year to year?
How should we value averting a death versus improving health outcomes versus increasing income? (Our "moral weights" problem)
Where are the systematic risks in our research (i.e., the areas where if we're wrong, we're making big mistakes in how we allocate funding)?
Team structure
Our research department is currently organized into eight teams, including Cross-Cutting:
Five of the teams (Water, Livelihoods, Nutrition, Malaria, and Vaccines) focus on specific areas of grantmaking.
The New Areas team focuses on interventions in domains that are new to GiveWell.
The Commons team provides generalized research support to each of the other teams, including landscaping research, vetting, and publishing.
The Cross-Cutting team works closely with other grantmaking teams. Projects typically involve partnering with a team to pressure-test or extend their work, or running methodological projects that set standards across the department.
Team values
We think our research team has unique qualities:
We care deeply and centrally about finding and sharing truth.
Truth-seeking is one of our
core values
. We post
our mistakes
and we prize our team members who keep our culture of free-flowing feedback strong.
We are independent.
We focus 100% on finding the most cost-effective opportunities to save and improve lives. Our researchers assist in communicating our research findings to the public and our donors, and on occasion we provide tailored advice to ultra-high-net-worth donors who want to rely on our expertise to direct their giving—but we never ask our researchers to trade off against honesty, or to hide their real beliefs.
We don’t waste time.
Once it’s clear that a particular research question is unlikely to change our bottom-line funding recommendation, we drop it as quickly as possible. We encourage our research staff to constantly re-evaluate their portfolios and only work on the highest-priority questions.
Lean research team = huge personal impact.
In 2026,
our research team of ~80 people is directing close to 1 billion dollars and we expect grantmaking dollars per research team member to increase in the future.
We work well together.
Our research team is lean because we’re able to attract top-tier people, all of whom complete skills-based assessments before joining our staff. We maintain a high-performing, collegial culture and pay our staff accordingly.
About you
Senior Cross-Cutting Researchers typically have quantitatively oriented advanced degrees and substantial relevant experience using empirical tools to make rigorous, evidence-based decisions in the real world. Practically, our senior research staff typically has 5-10 years of post-grad work experience prior to joining GiveWell. We're happy to consider applicants who do not have advanced degrees, but we'll look for a commensurate amount of relevant experience.
We expect that people with the soft qualities below will be the most successful and happy on our team. This isn’t a full list, but hopefully it conveys the gist of our team’s professional personality:
GiveWell’s mission and methods are personally energizing—you like our approach to research and you find personal meaning in our story of impact.
You’re abnormally curious—you ask lots of questions, and you’re willing to interrogate others’ work. Your curiosity also extends to your own work—you aren’t defensive when your research comes under scrutiny.
You routinely think about and surface the value judgments, background knowledge, and strategic commitments that undergird your work. You understand the potential effects of mistaken mental models, so you strive to improve yours and your team’s.
You dislike it when people express strong confidence in views that don’t seem to rely on commensurate evidence. You carefully and legibly communicate about your confidence levels.
You appreciate the value of an excellent reputation and strong relationships. You can moderate your directness and intensity when you’re communicating with external folks.
You love a
gnarly problem
. You figure out the most important questions to answer, go deep on the details where they matter (and move on where they don’t), and reassess your mental models based on what you’ve learned.
You constantly assess whether you and the team are working on the most important things.
Senior Cross-Cutting Researcher vs. other Senior Researcher roles
We're hiring Senior Researchers for both our Cross-Cutting team and our grantmaking teams. If you're energized by variety and methodological questions that span multiple program areas, Cross-Cutting may be a better fit. If you're excited to develop deep expertise in a specific program area and eventually own a grantmaking portfolio, our grantmaking-team-specific Senior Researcher roles (e.g., Senior Malaria Researcher or Senior Livelihoods Researcher) may be a better fit.
Not sure? Apply to whichever sounds more appealing—we'll help you figure out the right fit during the process, and we're open to moving candidates between tracks.
The details
Compensation:
We set salaries using a location-based tier system. Our pay for this role:
NYC or the San Francisco Bay Area: $308,000.
All other U.S. locations: $280,000
International: Similar to the “all other U.S. locations” salary, based on historical exchange rates and delivered in locally-denominated currency. We can share a precise figure upon request after the first work trial stage.
Benefits:
Our
benefits
include:
Fully funded health, dental, vision, and life insurance (we cover 100% of premiums within the US for you and any dependents)
Four weeks of paid time off per year
16 weeks of fully paid parental leave
Ergonomic home workstations or coworking space memberships
Automatic contribution equal to 5% of your gross salary into your 403(b) retirement plan (for U.S. based staff)
Countries we can hire from:
GiveWell is a remote-first organization. However, for the time being, we can only hire within a select number of countries (US, UK, Canada, Switzerland, and Germany). To be considered for a role with GiveWell, you need to already be based in one of those countries or be willing to move to one of them. We expect to expand the list of locations where we can hire over the course of 2027, and our job descriptions always reflect the current status — so we'd encourage you to check back and apply again for a role you're eligible for.
Visa sponsorship:
The US is the only country where visa sponsorship is possible for a number of roles, and it's assessed on a case by case basis. For all other countries, you need to already have work authorization, we cannot sponsor visas.
Why we work this way:
Focusing on countries where we already have tested onboarding processes lets us move candidates through hiring faster and with fewer surprises. Every additional country brings its own labor laws, EOR requirements, and new processes to work through, which slows things down for hiring teams and new colleagues alike. Concentrating our footprint keeps the experience consistent and supports GiveWell’s wider absorption capacity goals.
Flexibility:
We support and encourage flexible working, including flexible hours, working remotely, and working from the office when you choose. The majority of our staff, including senior management, work flexibly in one way or another.
Travel:
Research team members are sometimes required to attend international site visits and conferences (on average 1-2 per year), with additional travel for those interested in traveling more. Additionally, we strongly encourage staff members to attend quarterly whole-org and department retreats to bond with other team members and complete in-person work. We'll discuss travel obligations in more detail during late stages of the hiring process, and we’ll accommodate staff who have conflicting family or other obligations.
Start date:
We’d like a candidate to start as soon as possible after receiving an offer, but we’ll offer flexibility for candidates whose personal or professional circumstances require them to moderately delay their start date.
Miscellaneous details:
Please note that our hiring process consists of the same work trials for the following roles: Researcher, Senior Researcher, Senior Cross-Cutting Researcher, Senior Livelihoods Researcher, Senior Malaria Researcher, Senior New Areas Researcher, Senior Nutrition Researcher, Senior Vaccination Researcher, and Senior Water Researcher. If, within the last year, you applied and were rejected for one of these roles, you should hold off on applying to the other roles, unless explicitly asked to do so by a member of our team. If you're interested in all of these roles, please just apply once and note in your application that you'd like to be considered for the other roles, too.
After application review, our hiring process consists of a short application exercise and up to 15 hours of compensated work trials. You can see more details about our hiring process on our
FAQs page
!
We devote significant staff capacity to initial application review, and we respond to all applications as quickly as possible.
We’re aiming to hire four to six full-time Senior Researchers.
We have a strong preference for full-time applicants, but we’ll consider applications for part-time work. We aren’t interested in reviewing applications for contract or project-based work at this time.
If we settle on an application deadline, we’ll write it in bold here. If you’re on our website job posting and don’t see a deadline, there is no deadline. If you’re reading this on an external job board and don’t see a deadline, you should double-check on our
website
.
You don't need to submit a cover letter—we rely mainly on your resume and answers to the application questions below when we're making early decisions.
About GiveWell
GiveWell is dedicated to finding and evaluating highly cost-effective global health and development opportunities, and we publish all the work, reasoning, and uncertainties behind our funding decisions. Our
giving funds
enable donors to contribute to the most impactful and cost-effective programs our researchers identify.
GiveWell is one of the world’s largest private funders of global development efforts. Trusted annually by tens of thousands of donors, GiveWell searches for highly cost-effective programs that save or improve lives the most. Since 2007, more than 150,000 donors have given over $2.6 billion through GiveWell to the most promising programs its research has identified, which we estimate will save more than
340,000 lives
.
GiveWell is most well-known for recommending a small number of
Top Charities
, which currently support
seasonal malaria chemoprevention
,
insecticide-treated nets
,
vaccine incentivization
, and
vitamin A supplementation
. However, most of our research capacity and grantmaking is devoted to
cost-effective opportunities outside of those programs

GiveWell
grants
have:
Helped governments
navigate changes to the funding landscape
and implement high-impact health programs, like
HIV/syphilis screening and treatment
for pregnant people in Zambia and Cameroon.
Sought to scope and scale promising interventions that don’t have clear existing implementers. We are supporting the
Clinton Health Access Initiative’s Incubator
to identify potentially cost-effective interventions and create programs that we would be excited to support in the future. For example, we
funded a program
to prevent tuberculosis among young children in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, India, that we co-designed with CHAI through the Incubator program.
Provided funding to ensure that programs that recently faced foreign aid funding cuts could continue, like
healthcare support and malnutrition treatment
in northern Cameroon.
Funded program delivery alongside strengthened monitoring and evaluation, as in our grants to support
treatment of clubfoot

through further research and data collection, including
improved estimates of disease burden
and studies on
the effect of water chlorination on mortality
and

We make our reasoning public and transparent so others can challenge it (sometimes we even
pay people to point out our errors
). We go to unusual lengths to check our assumptions and assess our impact, including
funding research
to address our uncertainties and gathering
independent monitoring and evaluation data
about the programs we support. We

Summary
GiveWell is seeking a Senior Vaccination Researcher to help us direct tens of millions of dollars annually to the most cost-effective vaccination programs that we can find. You will have an outsized influence on our funding decisions and help us save and improve lives on a global scale.
Our vaccination grantmaking is focused on increasing coverage of routine immunization in children under the age of two in areas with high burden of vaccine-preventable disease. This has included supporting targeted outreach and mobile vaccination, demand-side incentives, and support for malaria vaccine rollout. In the future, we may expand into new areas such as campaigns, subsidizing vaccine procurement, supply chain support, surveillance and outbreak response, and R&D for vaccines or vaccine delivery technology. Vaccination is one of our fastest-growing areas, from $12 million in 2024 to $50 million in 2025 and more than $70 million expected in 2026.
As a Senior Vaccination Researcher, you’ll create and lead ambitious research agendas related to our portfolios of work and answer complex questions that will inform GiveWell’s grantmaking decisions. The researchers on our team combine rigorous evidence review, cost-effectiveness modeling, and thoughtful judgment.
We’re open to a wide variety of professional development pathways depending on your preferences and our needs.
The role
You will be joining a small grantmaking team to contribute to our ambitious research agenda on vaccination. You will shape a research agenda that brings rigor and creativity to the thorniest questions the GiveWell vaccination team faces. Your work will combine empirical evidence review and critical synthesis, cost-effectiveness modeling, discussions with subject matter experts, understanding of the broader context, and your own judgment.
What you might work on in your first year:
How should GiveWell’s portfolio of investments change in response to new technologies and shifts in government or funder resources and priorities?
What are the most promising opportunities for grant-making in areas such as surveillance and outbreak response and R&D for vaccines or vaccine delivery technology? How should we prioritize those relative to current core areas?
How can we improve our methods for evaluating the impact of programs on vaccination coverage? How can we collect more useful data and combine various sources of information to generate a holistic picture of which programs to expand and which to exit?
What are the core differences between GiveWell's cost-effectiveness model and other vaccine cost-effectiveness models and what learnings from the external models should we apply to our model?
What is the best design for a study to improve available estimates of the impact of key childhood vaccines on disease-specific mortality or all-cause mortality?
The Senior Vaccination Researcher will help shape a major annual grantmaking portfolio, own grant investigations end-to-end (from research question through grant recommendation), and represent GiveWell to external counterparts. You'll have significant latitude to propose new areas of work.

. You figure out the most important questions to answer, go deep on the details where they matter (and move on where they don’t), and reassess your mental models based on what you’ve learned.
You constantly assess whether you and the team are working on the most important things.
If you’re interested in working on GiveWell’s research team but don’t have vaccination expertise, consider applying to our generalist
Senior Researcher
role.
The details
Compensation:
We set salaries using a location-based tier system. Our pay for this role:
NYC or the San Francisco Bay Area: $308,000.
All other U.S. locations: $280,000.
Four weeks of paid time off per year, plus a one week organization-wide summer break
Additionally, we strongly encourage staff members to attend whole-org and department retreats 3 times per year to bond with other team members and complete in-person work.
Please apply to only one Senior Researcher posting.
If you have deep expertise in this area, this pod-specific role is the right fit. If not, there's no need to apply here — our generalist Senior Researcher role is designed for strong researchers who don't have a single specialization, and you don't need to apply to both. Applying to the generalist role won't put you at any disadvantage!
You can see more details about our hiring process on our
FAQs page
.
We devote significant staff capacity to initial application review, and we respond to all applications as quickly as possible.
Since 2007, more than 150,000 donors have given over $2.6 billion through GiveWell to the most promising programs its research has identified, which we estimate will save more than
340,000 lives
.
GiveWell is most well-known for recommending a small number of
Top Charities
, which currently support
seasonal malaria chemoprevention
,
insecticide-treated nets
,
vaccine incentivization
, and
vitamin A supplementation
. However, most of our research capacity and grantmaking is devoted to
cost-effective opportunities outside of those programs
.
GiveWell
grants
have:
Helped governments
navigate changes to the funding landscape
and implement high-impact health programs, like
HIV/syphilis screening and treatment
for pregnant people in Zambia and Cameroon.
Sought to scope and scale promising interventions that don’t have clear existing implementers. We are supporting the
Clinton Health Access Initiative’s Incubator
to identify potentially cost-effective interventions and create programs that we would be excited to support in the future. For example, we
funded a program
to prevent tuberculosis among young children in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, India, that we co-designed with CHAI through the Incubator program.
Provided funding to ensure that programs that recently faced foreign aid funding cuts could continue, like
healthcare support and malnutrition treatment
in northern Cameroon.
Funded program delivery alongside strengthened monitoring and evaluation, as in our grants to support
treatment of clubfoot
and to
evaluate the program
.
Tested our
assumptions and refined our understanding
through further research and data collection, including
improved estimates of disease burden
and studies on
the effect of water chlorination on mortality
and
the impact of a tree-planting program on farmers’ income
.
We make our reasoning public and transparent so others can challenge it (sometimes we even
pay people to point out our errors
). We go to unusual lengths to check our assumptions and assess our impact, including
funding research
to address our uncertainties and gathering
independent monitoring and evaluation data
about the programs we support. We
change
our minds when the evidence demands it. For more about GiveWell, listen to Ezra Klein’s

ABOUT RAMP
Ramp is building the smart infrastructure for finance teams, embedded in the transaction flow of every dollar a business spends. We automate how over $200B in annualized spend flows in and out of 70,000+ companies: authorizing payments, flagging risk, categorizing spend, and closing books.
The problems are high-stakes, data-dense, and unforgiving.
We hire people with high agency and high urgency. We look for slope over intercept. We care less about where you trained and more about what you’ve built. At Ramp, everyone is a builder who owns problems end to end and makes consequential decisions that shape the outcome.
The median Ramp customer saves 5% and grows revenue 16% in their first year – far in excess of businesses operating without Ramp. We believe every ambitious company deserves the same.
If you want to build systems that directly shape how companies move and manage billions, Ramp is the place to do it.
Ramp is building an AI-native platform that changes how Go-to-Market and Product Growth teams create, launch, and improve customer-facing experiences. We are looking for a product-minded backend engineer to help build the infrastructure and services that power modern growth and marketing at Ramp.
The next chapter for this team is to build marketing-led products: intelligent tools that turn strategy into execution, automate complex workflows, and help teams operate across channels with dramatically more leverage.
The team will build across creative production, lifecycle marketing, paid media, account-based marketing, experimentation, incentives, and cross-channel orchestration. Examples include AI-powered systems that produce on-brand campaign assets, automate complex marketing workflows, coordinate audiences and execution, and deliver personalized experiences across email, sales outreach, external channels, and Ramp’s product.
A core part of this mandate is Ramp’s incentives platform. We are building shared infrastructure to safely target, authorize, distribute, redeem, and measure incentives across channels and mediums—including in-app experiences tied to product adoption and growth goals. This requires combining marketer-friendly workflows with governed policies, budget controls, reliable financial operations, and closed-loop measurement.
You will work at the intersection of product engineering, AI, data, marketing, and financial infrastructure. The ideal candidate is a product-minded backend engineer who can translate ambiguous workflows into durable systems. You will build the data models, APIs, integrations, and orchestration capabilities that allow marketers, product teams, and AI agents to safely execute complex work end to end.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Build the backend systems that power AI-native marketing and growth products across creative production, experimentation, incentives, and cross-channel orchestration.
- Build shared incentives infrastructure for eligibility, targeting, policies, budgets, authorization, issuance, redemption, and outcome tracking.
- Enable personalized content and offers across email, sales workflows, external channels, and in-product experiences using shared customer and campaign context.
- Design reliable orchestration for long-running work, approvals, scheduling, retries, human intervention, and safe AI or financial execution.
- Connect marketing actions and incentive spend to measurable activation, conversion, retention, and revenue outcomes.
- Partner across Marketing, Product Growth, Product, Data Science, Finance, and GTM Platform to own systems from early discovery through production adoption and iteration.
WHAT YOU NEED
- 5+ years of software engineering experience building production backend systems, with strong proficiency in Python or another modern server-side language.
- A track record of owning production services, APIs, data models, and distributed or event-driven workflows.
- Strong product judgment and system-design fundamentals, including data modeling, asynchronous processing, reliability, testing, and observability.
- Experience building governed systems involving permissions, policies, budgets, balances, entitlements, or financial actions.
- Experience applying AI to real product workflows—or strong interest in doing so—with an understanding of where deterministic controls and human approval are required.
- Excellent cross-functional communication and a bias toward rapidly shipping measurable user and business outcomes.
NICE TO HAVES
- Experience building incentive, rewards, promotion, loyalty, payments, ledger, or financial-authorization systems.
- Experience building workflow engines, automation platforms, agent systems, or orchestration infrastructure.
- Experience with lifecycle marketing, product growth, paid media, experimentation, CRM, or other marketing technology.
- Experience designing human-in-the-loop AI systems, including approvals, evaluations, tool execution, and recovery.
- Experience with customer-data platforms, identity systems, behavioral event streams, or analytical data infrastructure.
- Experience building experimentation or attribution systems that connect interventions to customer and business outcomes.

ABOUT DOCKER
Docker has been one of the most loved brands in developer tooling, trusted by more than 20 million monthly users and over 20 billion container image pulls. From solo founders to the world's largest companies, developers rely on Docker to build, share, and run their applications across our suite of products including Docker Desktop, Docker Hub, and Docker Scout.
We are a globally distributed, remote-first team building the tools that define how software gets built and delivered. As AI agents redefine software development, Docker is at the center of that shift, providing the sandboxed environments, verified images, and secure infrastructure that make autonomous workflows trustworthy by default.
_______________________________________________________________________
The DHI Content team builds and maintains Docker Hardened Images: a catalogue of security-hardened system packages, container images and Helm charts designed to be minimal, up to date and safe to use in security-conscious and regulated environments.
This is a supply-chain and open-source maintainer role rather than a conventional backend engineering role. You will work across upstream OSS projects, package and image definitions, Helm charts, Kubernetes, integration tests, vulnerability remediation and the controls that prove content is ready to publish. The work is broad by design: customers should be able to select hardened packages and images and, where relevant, deploy them through hardened charts without the pieces drifting apart.
We are moving DHI content production towards a machine-first factory. Routine work should begin with a machine-produced change and pass through automated build, test, policy and review controls. Engineers add the most value by handling difficult ecosystems, making security judgements, improving standards and turning repeated human corrections into better tooling. You will use AI-assisted engineering extensively, but remain accountable for the evidence and quality behind every result.
As a Senior Supply Chain Security Engineer, you will own substantial content and improvement work from upstream discovery through release and ongoing maintenance. You will be expected to close the loop on customer and security outcomes, not only submit individual definition changes.
SUCCESS IN THIS ROLE LOOKS LIKE
You will succeed by becoming a trusted end-to-end owner for hardened content. Within your first year, you should have delivered complex new or updated DHI content across packages, images and Helm charts, improved the factory or its quality gates, reduced recurring manual work and raised the capability of the engineers around you.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Author and maintain definitions for hardened system packages and container images, including build steps, upstream tracking, multi-architecture support and reproducibility controls.
- Adapt and maintain upstream Helm charts so they work correctly with DHI images under non-root, restricted and production-shaped Kubernetes security constraints.
- Track upstream releases, semver patterns, monorepos, dependency chains and breaking changes, then make pragmatic decisions about when to update, patch, pin or deviate.
- Triage and remediate vulnerabilities across OS packages, application dependencies, images and charts, including VEX and no-upstream-fix cases that require explicit security judgement.
- Write and improve Go-based integration tests, validators and policy checks that prove packages, images and charts behave correctly in real environments.
- Review human-authored and machine-authored pull requests against DHI standards, distinguish blocking issues from advice and give contributors a clear path forward.
- Improve the DHI Factory by converting repeated work, review corrections and escaped defects into automation, tests, validators and reusable authoring patterns.
- Help classify work into deterministic, specialist and judgement paths so people spend time where their expertise changes the outcome.
- Partner with Product, Security, Support and customer-facing teams to turn demand and incidents into prioritised content and durable improvements.
- Engage constructively with upstream maintainers when hardened deployment requirements expose issues or useful improvements.
- Participate in the team's paid on-call rotation and drive learning from customer escalations, failed builds and content defects.
- Communicate decisions, risks and progress clearly in a remote, async-first environment.
QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIRED
- Strong experience with containers, Linux and Kubernetes in production or production-shaped environments.
- Practical experience reading, adapting or maintaining Helm charts and diagnosing how chart templates, values and workload security settings affect deployment behaviour.
- Experience maintaining software you did not originate, such as Linux packages, container images, open-source integrations, charts or a comparable downstream distribution.

Hi, I'm Brian, Senior Director of Engineering at Customer.io. We're looking for experienced engineers who want to own a channel end to end — from the infrastructure that delivers billions of messages reliably, to the product surfaces our customers use to build, send, and analyze their campaigns. You'll work across the stack, bringing both systems thinking and product craft to one of the most technically rich problem spaces in the industry.
You don't need email experience to apply.
We can teach you the email domain. The engineers who thrive here are the ones who love learning a deep problem space, not only the ones who arrive already knowing it.
About Customer.io
Over 9,000 companies — from scrappy startups to global brands — use our platform to send billions of emails, push notifications, in-app messages, and SMS every day. Customer.io powers automated communication that people actually want to receive.
We help teams send smarter, more relevant messages using real-time behavioral data. Under the hood: Go, React, Ember and AI help us ship fast and scale with confidence.
What We Value
Ownership
You own problems end to end. You move fast, act like an owner, and thrive in ambiguity. You've led complex projects before, whether officially or not, and you're ready to do it again.
Engineers with product taste
You think like a user, not just an engineer. You care how your systems power real customer value — and how to make them better.
A healthy skepticism for "the way things are done"
You bring rigor and creativity. Best practices matter — but never more than forward motion.
What You'll Do
Build and evolve the frontend experiences customers use to create, preview, and analyze campaigns — editors, configuration, and analytics dashboards
Design and scale backend systems that process high volumes of messages and events: queue management, retry logic, rate limiting, and real-time event pipelines
Build automated systems that respond intelligently to feedback signals from external providers — classification, suppression, throttling, and health scoring
Partner with in-house domain experts to turn their knowledge into automated tooling — you bring the systems skills, they bring the email depth
Instrument and monitor channel health end to end: signal detection, anomaly alerting, and observability
Own problems end to end — from architecture and schema design to testing, deployment, and monitoring
Participate in an on-call rotation as required, supporting the reliability of the systems you build
Share knowledge and raise the bar through short videos, thoughtful writing, and mentorship
Use AI agents to make multi-file changes by scoping the work, writing the prompt, and verifying the output
What We're Looking For
7+ years of experience building scalable, distributed systems in Go (or similar statically typed languages)
Experience building product-facing frontend features in React or similar frameworks, with attention to UX quality and polish
Experience building or consuming APIs that handle high-throughput async workloads — event streams, queues, and systems that degrade gracefully under load
Comfort integrating with external systems you don't control — third-party APIs, rate limits, opaque failure modes — and designing for resilience around them
Comfort working in cloud-native environments (AWS, GCP)
Familiarity with relational databases (we use MySQL primarily) and an understanding of performance tradeoffs
Experience with observability tooling and operating production systems
A bias for action over perfection, and pride in owning technical decisions
Nice to have:
Familiarity with email infrastructure — deliverability, authentication standards (SPF/DKIM/DMARC), sender reputation, or high-volume sending
Compensation & Benefits
We believe in transparency. Starting salary for this role is $150,000 - $200,000 USD (or equivalent in local currency) depending on experience and subject to market rate adjustment. In addition to base salary, this role includes an equity grant in the form of stock options, so you share in the success you help build.
We know our people are what make us great, and we're committed to taking great care of them. Our inclusive benefits package supports your well-being and growth, including
100% coverage of medical, dental, vision, mental health, and supplemental insurance premiums for you and your family
. We also offer
16 weeks paid parental leave
,
unlimited PTO
, stipends for remote work and wellness, a professional development budget, and more.

Join us and help build the platform engineers turn to ship AI products.
THE ROLE
As a Site Reliability Engineer at Baseten, you'll define and codify the gold standards of day 2 operations for our ML infrastructure platform. You'll envision and build robust systems, processes, automations, and observability tooling that keep our platform reliable at scale — and that empower the broader organization to operate confidently.
You'll work closely with engineering, forward-deployed and product teams: learning from recurring failure patterns, turning tribal knowledge into automated mitigations, and raising the operational floor for the entire company.
EXAMPLE INITIATIVES
You'll work on projects like these as part of the SRE team:
- Improve Baseten SRE Practices, by instrumenting SLOs and SLIs, improving alerting and observability for all services.
- Building AI-assisted tooling for incident triage and response.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Own the reliability of Baseten's multi-cloud Kubernetes infrastructure, including incident response, post-mortems, and remediation tracking.
- Build and maintain observability infrastructure — metrics, logging, dashboards, and alerting — as code.
- Author, validate, and improve runbooks for recurring failure patterns, ensuring they're structured for low-context, safe execution.
- Identify high-frequency failure patterns and convert them into automated mitigations or self-healing automations.
- Diagnose and resolve runtime issues related to latency, memory behavior, GPU utilization, concurrency, and model lifecycle management.
- Define and instrument SLOs and SLIs across customer workloads and internal services.
- Navigate ambiguity, make principled tradeoffs, and avoid unnecessary complexity in the systems you build and the processes you define.
REQUIREMENTS
- Extensive hands-on experience with Kubernetes (multi-cloud experience across EKS, GKE, or similar is a strong plus).
- Experience in building and maintaining scalable infrastructure.
- Strong foundation in observability tooling: metrics (VictoriaMetrics, Prometheus), logging (Loki, ELK), dashboards (Grafana), and alerting pipelines. Observability-as-code experience is a plus.
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Helm) and GitOps workflows (Flux CD, ArgoCD).
- Experience writing and improving runbooks, leading incident response, and doing post-mortem analysis.
- Comfort working at the intersection of engineering and operations — you write code, but you also think deeply about process, escalation paths, and operational leverage.
- Familiarity with incident management platforms (incident.io http://incident.io or similar) is a plus.
- No prior ML experience required, but curiosity about how ML models are deployed and served at scale will serve you well.
BENEFITS
- Competitive compensation, including meaningful equity
- (U.S. only) 100% coverage of medical, dental, and vision insurance for employee and dependents
- Flexible PTO policy including company wide Winter Break (our offices are closed from Christmas Eve to New Year's Day!)
- Paid parental leave
- Fertility and family-building stipend through Carrot
- (U.S. only) Company-facilitated 401(k)
- Exposure to a variety of ML startups, offering unparalleled learning and networking opportunities.

Summary
GiveWell is seeking a Senior Water Researcher to help direct tens of millions of dollars annually to the most cost-effective water interventions we can find. You will have an outsized influence on our funding decisions and help us save and improve lives on a global scale.
Our water grantmaking has historically focused on improving drinking
water quality through chlorination
— primarily chlorine dispensers and in-line chlorination — in low- and middle-income countries with a high burden of waterborne disease. In 2025,
we ran a public Request for Information (RFI)
that resulted in 18 pilot grants to 12 implementing partners across six African countries, totaling roughly $20 million. In 2026, we are beginning to pivot from a narrow focus on chlorination toward a broader exploration of the water sector. This includes investigating alternative water quality interventions (e.g., filtration, in-line ultraviolet disinfection, chemical contamination remediation), different clean water delivery models (e.g. diarrheal outbreak prevention and response, safe water enterprises), exploring water access and infrastructure layering with multilaterals such as the World Bank, market shaping for chlorine supply chains and measurement technology, and R&D for hardware and better service delivery models.
As a Senior Water Researcher, you'll create and lead ambitious research agendas related to our portfolios of work and answer complex questions that will inform GiveWell's grantmaking decisions. The researchers on our team combine rigorous evidence review, cost-effectiveness modeling, and thoughtful judgment.
We're open to a wide variety of professional development pathways depending on your preferences and our needs.
The role
You will be joining a small grantmaking team to contribute to our ambitious research agenda on water. You'll sift through the countless questions we could try to answer, and hone in on those that matter most. You'll also communicate externally about your work and mentor and advise other researchers on the team.
You will shape a research agenda that brings rigor and creativity to the thorniest questions the GiveWell water team faces. Your work will combine empirical evidence review and critical synthesis, cost-effectiveness modeling, discussions with subject matter experts, understanding of the broader context, and your own judgment.
What you might work on in your first year:
How should we calibrate our cost-effectiveness estimates to real-world program performance?
How does chlorination compare with alternative water quality methods — such as filtration, in-line UV, and chemical contamination remediation — across different settings? Where, if anywhere, are these alternatives more cost-effective?
Can GiveWell unlock large amounts of cost-effective
room for more funding
by partnering with multilaterals (e.g. the World Bank) to layer water treatment onto large-scale piped water infrastructure projects? What are the practical and political constraints?
To what extent should our portfolio shift between water quality (our current focus) and water access? Are there access-related grantmaking opportunities — for example, supporting direct delivery of clean water, water kiosks, or boreholes paired with treatment — that meet our cost-effectiveness bar?
How do we improve our estimate of the all-cause mortality effect of chlorination on children under-5?
How should we use new funding mechanisms — such as regranting, prizes, and a possible Water Incubator with implementing partners — to identify and scale promising interventions?
The Senior Water Researcher will help shape a major annual grantmaking portfolio, own grant investigations end-to-end (from research question through grant recommendation), and represent GiveWell to external counterparts. You'll have significant latitude to propose new areas of work.
Team structure
Our research department is currently organized into eight teams:
Five of the teams (Livelihoods, Malaria, Nutrition, Vaccination, and Water) focus on specific areas of grantmaking.
The New Areas team focuses on interventions in domains that are new to GiveWell.
The Cross-Cutting team focuses on methodological issues, research quality, and other big-picture concerns that cut across all of our research work.
The Commons team provides generalized research support to each of the other teams, including landscaping research, vetting, and publishing.
About you
We expect the Senior Water Researcher to have
A quantitatively oriented advanced degree (e.g., in epidemiology, environmental engineering, environmental health, public health, economics, or related fields).
Substantial professional experience in the water sector or an adjacent field (broadly defined). This could include experience in water quality, WASH, water infrastructure, environmental health modeling, or in program implementation, evaluation, or funding. We're especially interested in candidates with hands-on familiarity with water systems, epidemiology, or both. We don't expect any single candidate to have deep expertise across all of the areas we're exploring (chlorination, filtration, in-line UV, water access, market shaping, R&D), and we're happy to consider strong researchers whose expertise sits in any subset of these.
If you’re interested in working on GiveWell’s research team but don’t have water expertise, consider applying to our generalist
Senior Researcher
role, or our Researcher role if you have limited post-graduation experience.

Please apply to only one Senior Researcher posting.
If you have deep expertise in this area, this pod-specific role is the right fit. If not, there's no need to apply here — our generalist Senior Researcher role is designed for strong researchers who don't have a single specialization, and you don't need to apply to both. Applying to the generalist role won't put you at any disadvantage!
Please note that our hiring process consists of the same work trials for the following roles: Researcher, Senior Researcher, Senior Cross-Cutting Researcher, Senior Livelihoods Researcher, Senior Malaria Researcher, Senior New Areas Researcher, Senior Nutrition Researcher, Senior Vaccines Researcher, and Senior Water Researcher.

Summary
GiveWell is seeking a Senior Livelihoods Researcher to help us identify and fund the most cost-effective ways to improve living standards among the global poor. You will have an outsized influence on our funding decisions and help us improve lives on a global scale.
Our livelihoods team is organized around thematic verticals, which includes cash transfers, broader social protection programs, education programs, and support for small and medium sized businesses in low-income countries. Across the portfolio, we try to maximize the social return on our investment, which we measure as the increase in relative consumption per $. We value consumption gains more highly among poorer populations, which has meant most of our grantmaking to date has focused on programs which support deprived populations within low-income countries (mostly in sub-Saharan Africa).
As a Senior Livelihoods Researcher, you’ll create and lead ambitious research agendas related to our portfolios of work and answer complex questions that will inform GiveWell’s grantmaking decisions. The researchers on our team combine rigorous evidence review, cost-effectiveness modeling, and thoughtful judgment.
We’re open to a wide variety of professional development pathways depending on your preferences and our needs.
The role
You will be joining a small grantmaking team to contribute to our ambitious research agenda on livelihoods. You’ll sift through the countless questions we could try to answer, and honing in on those that matter most. You’ll also communicate externally about your work and advise other researchers on the team.
You will shape a research agenda that brings rigor and creativity to the thorniest questions the GiveWell livelihoods team faces. Your work will combine empirical evidence review and critical synthesis, cost-effectiveness modeling, discussions with subject matter experts, understanding of the broader context, and your own judgment. In the course of your work, you might approach questions like these:
What effect do rural trailbridges have on the consumption of nearby communities?
What are long-run effects of unconditional cash transfers and ultra poor graduation programs on recipients?
What would happen to prices and markets if we took cash transfer and ultra poor graduation programs to scale?
How should GiveWell value interventions which try to reduce the variance of consumption (as opposed to increasing the average)?
Several countries in sub-Saharan Africa have seen large scale-ups in donor-funded livelihoods programs over the last 30 years but very little movement in poverty headcount rates and median consumption per capita. Why?
Team structure
Our research department has over 60 people, and is currently organized into eight teams:
Five of the teams (Water, Nutrition, Malaria, Vaccines, and Livelihoods) focus on specific areas of grantmaking.
About you
We expect the Senior Livelihoods Researcher to have
A quantitatively oriented advanced degree (e.g., in economics, statistics, public policy or related fields)
Substantial professional experience in the livelihoods landscape (broadly defined). This could include experience in academic research and/or in program implementation or funding.
If you’re interested in working on GiveWell’s research team but don’t have livelihoods expertise, consider applying to our generalist
Senior Researcher
role.

ABOUT THE ROLE
Ramp is building something ambitious, and we believe our most important advantage is our people. This role sits at the foundation of that belief. You'll help shape how Ramp identifies, evaluates, and hires world-class engineering talent, with a particular focus on the engineers at the center of what we're building next.
This is a craft role. You'll own pipelines end-to-end, partner directly with our Engineering leadership, and be accountable for the quality of the people we bring through the door. We're looking for a Technical Recruiter who treats hiring as a discipline. Someone who cares as much about candidate experience and calibration as they do about closing.
You won't just be working off a req list. We're looking for someone who can take ambiguous or high-level direction from engineering leadership and turn it into a sharp, targeted search, knowing exactly who they want before the role even opens. You'll be expected to have strong opinions on talent, defend them with evidence, and push back on stakeholders when the bar is at risk.
Recruiting at Ramp is owned end-to-end, not handed off. This role requires someone who stays close to the candidate, close to the hiring manager, and close to the work, so context never gets lost between hand-offs.
What You’ll Do
- Partner closely with our Engineering leadership and hiring managers to deeply understand the requirements of each role and how it fits into the organization
- Manage full-cycle recruiting for multiple, complex searches across our Engineering organization, owning every stage from first touch to signed offer
- Build deeply targeted sourcing strategies. Know the companies, the teams, and the individual engineers worth pursuing before opening a search
- Partner with our sourcing team to iterate on creative strategies for talent pipelines and competitor mapping
- Run candidate process with urgency and care. Same-day follow-up, next steps booked before you hang up, no candidate left chasing us
- Manage pipeline activity, maintain data integrity, and proactively share data-centric updates with internal stakeholders. Spot funnel issues early and bring evidence to calibration conversations, not just gut
- Drive offer processes for candidates, including extending offers, negotiations, closing candidates, and generating offer letters
- Act as a strategic advisor, not a req-filler. Anticipate hiring needs, shape strategy alongside engineering stakeholders, and translate abstract asks into concrete target lists, comp frameworks, and close plans
- Lead initiatives that raise the bar on how technical recruiting operates at Ramp, including interview loops, interviewer training, scorecards, and other cross-functional efforts that increase hiring quality and speed
- Build excellent relationships across the recruiting team and your engineering client groups
What We’re Looking For
- 5+ years of full-cycle technical recruiting/sourcing experience in a similar role at a high-growth technology company or startup
- Demonstrated track record hiring for deeply technical engineering roles. You can hold a credible conversation with a hiring manager about the work, not just the title
- You build and use AI across every stage of the recruiting process, from how you find candidates to how you screen, calibrate, and close them. You're a sourcer at heart, don't wait for inbound, and treat your tooling as part of the craft
- Excellent written and verbal storytelling communication skills
- Ability to influence at various levels in an organization, anchoring on data-driven decision-making
- Operationally strong, detail-oriented, and comfortable navigating ambiguity in a fast-moving environment
- Genuine care for the candidate experience. You believe how someone is treated through the process is as much a reflection of Ramp as the offer itself
BENEFITS AVAILABLE TO ALL FULL-TIME RAMP EMPLOYEES (GLOBAL)
- Flexible PTO
- Centralized home-office equipment ordering
- Health and wellness stipend
- Budget for intra-office travel
- Weekly coffee stipend
UNITED STATES
- 100% medical, dental & vision insurance coverage for you, with partial coverage for dependents
- One Medical annual membership
- 401(k), including employer match on contributions made while employed by Ramp
- Fertility HRA (up to $10,000 per year)
- Parental leave: up to 16 weeks (birthing + bonding) or 8 weeks (bonding only) at 100% pay
- Pet insurance
- In-office perks: lunch, snacks, drinks, and more
- Relocation expense coverage to NYC or SF (if needed)
CANADA
- Group medical, dental, and vision coverage through Sun Life
- Life, AD&D, and disability coverage
- Fertility drug coverage (up to $4,000 lifetime)
- Group Retirement Plan with employer match (RRSP + DPSP)
- Parental leave: up to 16 weeks (birthing + bonding) or 8 weeks (bonding only) at 100% pay, with additional time available at reduced pay
- Employee Assistance Program and virtual care through Lumino Health
UNITED KINGDOM
- Private medical insurance through Freedom Elite
