An overview of this role
What does software planning look like when people and artificial intelligence agents work together? As a Staff Product Manager for Planning at GitLab, you'll help answer that question and lead the team toward a clear product direction. This isn't just about improving traditional agile planning. You'll rethink how intent becomes actionable work, how that work moves through software development, and where human involvement is needed.
You'll develop a point of view on planning's future and turn it into product decisions with engineering, design, and product leadership. That includes exploring how planning could connect work to business priorities and budgets, rather than assuming the answer is already decided. Alongside that strategic work, you'll share ownership of existing planning capabilities with another product manager.
We're opening this role at Staff level, with flexibility to consider Principal level based on your experience and scope of impact.
What you'll do
Define a clear direction for planning as software development shifts toward collaboration between people and artificial intelligence agents, and help the team move from open questions to concrete priorities.
Shape how users capture intent, break it into actionable work, and determine which work can proceed autonomously and which needs human involvement.
Evaluate whether and how planning should connect software delivery to company priorities, business objectives, and budgets.
Share ownership of planning capabilities, including work items, boards, specifications, and portfolio planning, with a fellow product manager. Help define how that scope is divided.
Work with engineering and design to translate product direction into a roadmap and improvements to planning workflows across GitLab.
Communicate your recommendations clearly to senior leaders, challenge assumptions constructively, and lead the team through changes in direction.
What you'll bring
Experience leading product strategy and execution for software development, developer tools, or planning products, with the depth to make decisions in a specialized product area.
A strong understanding of software development and development and operations (DevOps) workflows, including how planning decisions affect downstream delivery.
The ability to form and defend a product point of view in an uncertain, changing market, while staying open to different ideas.
Clear communication with technical teams and senior executives, including experience challenging leadership decisions constructively and building support for a direction.
The ability to connect a forward-looking strategy to practical product decisions and work collaboratively across product, engineering, and design.
About the team
The Planning team builds the capabilities at the start of GitLab's software development workflow, including work items, boards, specifications, and portfolio planning. Decisions here affect how work moves through the rest of the platform, so the team's scope extends beyond standalone project management tools.
You'll work alongside another product manager and partner with engineering and design across this product area. The division of product ownership is still being shaped, and you'll help define it. The hiring manager wants you to bring a different perspective, question established approaches, and challenge senior leaders constructively, with room to influence decisions beyond your immediate product scope.
GitLab's mission is to enable everyone to contribute to and co-create the software that powers our world. Our platform brings software development, security, and operations together.

Synthesia is the world’s leading AI video platform for business, used by over 90% of the Fortune 100. Founded in 2017, the company is headquartered in London, with offices and teams across Europe and the US.
As AI continues to shape the way we live and work, Synthesia develops products to enhance visual communication and enterprise skill development, helping people work better and stay at the center of successful organizations.
Following our recent Series E funding round, where we raised $200 million, our valuation stands at $4 billion. Our total funding exceeds $530 million from premier investors including Accel, NVentures (Nvidia's VC arm), Kleiner Perkins, GV, and Evantic Capital, alongside the founders and operators of Stripe, Datadog, Miro, and Webflow.
THE ROLE...
Synthesia's API and platform capabilities are quickly becoming the way developers embed AI video into their own products — automated training pipelines, localization workflows, customer-facing apps, and more. We're looking for our first Developer Advocate to make sure the developer world knows it, understands it, and gets building.
This is a builder-and-storyteller role. You'll be the face and voice of the Synthesia API to the outside world — writing, coding, speaking, and showing up wherever developers already are — while also being the internal champion who brings their feedback back into the product. You won't just talk about what's possible with Synthesia; you'll build the sample apps, tutorials, and demos that prove it, and you'll do it consistently enough that developers start to recognize your name before they recognize the logo.
You'll be part of the Developer Services team and work closely with Product, Engineering, Marketing, and Developer Support to turn technical capability into developer adoption.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Create technical content that developers actually use
- Write blog posts, tutorials, and how-to guides that show real, working integrations — not just feature announcements
- Build and maintain sample apps, starter kits, and code snippets across common languages and frameworks
- Produce video walkthroughs and livestreams using Synthesia's own product wherever it makes sense to "eat our own dog food"
- Keep a fast, honest cadence — regular, dependable output builds more trust than occasional big launches
Show up where developers are
- Represent Synthesia at conferences, meetups, hackathons, and webinars — as a speaker, workshop host, and booth presence
- Run livestreams and community AMAs that go deep on real implementation questions, not marketing talking points
- Build relationships with individual developers, technical bloggers, and community leaders who influence adoption
- Travel as needed to be physically present in the communities that matter most to our growth
Be the credible technical voice
- Get hands-on with the Synthesia API well enough to build things yourself, debug alongside developers, and speak with authority — not from a script
- Earn trust the way any evangelist does: by being genuinely useful before asking for anything in return
- Play the long game — plant seeds in developer communities today that turn into adoption months or years down the line
Close the loop with product
- Channel developer feedback, friction points, and feature requests back to Product and Engineering in a structured way
- Partner with Developer Support and Documentation to identify where the API's rough edges are creating support burden or lost adoption
- Help prioritize the developer experience roadmap based on what you're hearing on the ground
Build the flywheel
- Grow and nurture channels — Discord/Slack community, developer newsletter, social — where developers can find each other and find help
- Identify and cultivate community advocates and early power users who can become case studies, co-speakers, or contributors
- Measure what's working (content engagement, API sign-ups, community growth, sentiment) and adjust the playbook accordingly
ABOUT YOU...
- Experience in developer relations, developer advocacy, technical evangelism, or a similar hybrid technical/communication role — ideally at a platform, API-first, or infrastructure company
- Genuinely hands-on: comfortable writing code, working with APIs and SDKs, and building demo apps yourself, not just narrating what engineering built
- A strong, authentic communicator across formats — written, live, and on stage — who can make technical concepts land with a developer audience
- Comfortable with regular travel and public speaking; energized by meeting developers in person, not just online
- A track record of sustained output (blog, video, or community content) rather than one-off campaigns — evangelism is a long game, and consistency is what earns trust
- Skilled at listening as much as broadcasting: you can sit in a developer's frustration and turn it into a clear, actionable signal for the product team
- Comfortable operating with a lot of autonomy in a fast-moving, still-forming function
- Bonus: existing following or credibility within a developer community relevant to Synthesia's platform (video, AI/ML, automation, or enterprise software)
THE GOOD STUFF..
In addition to being a part of a great team, working in a fun and innovative environment, we offer:
- A competitive salary + stock options in our fast-growing Series E startup
- Hybrid working environment or remote friendly
- 100% Medical, Dental & Vision
- 401k Plan
- Paid parental leave
- 25 days of annual leave + Public holidays + paid sick leave
- Fun culture with regular socials
- A generous referral scheme
- A brand new computer + monitor
- Budget and support for conference travel, community events, and content production

ABOUT US
Constructor is the next-generation platform for search and discovery in ecommerce, built to explicitly optimize for metrics like revenue, conversion rate, and profit. Our search engine is entirely invented in-house utilizing transformers and generative LLMs, and we use its core and personalization capabilities to power everything from search itself to recommendations to shopping agents. Engineering is by far our largest department, and we’ve built our proprietary engine to be the best on the market, having never lost an A/B test to a competitive technology. We’re passionate about maintaining this and work on the bleeding edge of AI to do so.
Out of necessity, our engine is built for extreme scale and powers over 1 billion queries every day across 150 languages and roughly 100 countries. It is used by some of the biggest ecommerce companies in the world like Sephora, Under Armour, and Petco.
We’re a passionate team who love solving problems and want to make our customers’ and coworkers’ lives better. We value empathy, openness, curiosity, continuous improvement, and are excited by metrics that matter. We believe that empowering everyone in a company to do what they do best can lead to great things.
Constructor is a U.S. based company that has been in the market since 2019. It was founded by Eli Finkelshteyn and Dan McCormick who still lead the company today.
ABOUT THE POSITION
You'll be designing the future of product discovery. Constructor powers search and recommendations for some of the world's largest retailers and your work will shape how we show that to prospective customers. You'll own the demo experience: how big brands first see what's possible, and how they imagine their own shoppers using it. You'll also work on onboarding helping customers go live faster with less friction. It's a mix of vision work and practical tooling, with real impact on how Constructor grows.
ABOUT YOU
You're a product designer who owns problems, not screens. You're comfortable with ambiguity, can partner with PMs to shape direction, and know how to translate research insights into production-ready interfaces, working closely with engineers. You ship work that matters.
Beyond being a thoughtful designer, user advocate, and strong collaborator, here are a few things we really value:
- A goal-oriented, iterative mindset — You focus on solving high-impact problems and are comfortable learning, improving, and shipping quickly.
- Practical experience with research — You’ve led user interviews, usability tests, and data analysis.
- Experience designing for unfamiliar problems — You’ve worked on products where you had to understand complex workflows outside your own experience—especially in B2B contexts.
- Experience turning ambiguity into structure — You spot patterns, define systems, and design scalable, reusable solutions.
REQUIREMENTS

STAFF PRODUCT MANAGER, PRODUCT DISCOVERY ENGINE
ABOUT US
Constructor powers product search and discovery for some of the largest retailers in the world. We serve billions of requests every week, and you’ve probably seen our results somewhere and used our product without knowing it. We differentiate ourselves by focusing on metrics over features, and reinventing search and discovery from the ground up as a machine learning challenge with the specific goal of improving metrics like revenue. We’re approximately doubling year over year despite the market slowing down and have customers in every eCommerce vertical. We’re a passionate team of technologists who love solving problems and want to make our customers’ and coworkers’ lives better. We value empathy, openness, curiosity, continuous improvement, and are excited by metrics that matter. We believe that empowering everyone in a company to do what they think is best can lead to great things.
JOB SUMMARY
We’re looking for a systems-minded Staff Product Manager to take Constructor’s search and discovery to the state of the art — and keep it there — across every retail industry we serve. This is a highly technical, high-leverage role at the core of our Product Discovery Engine chapter: the teams responsible for how we retrieve, understand, and rank the right products for every shopper, on every query, for every customer.
Your job is to raise discovery quality and, through it, our customers’ business metrics. You won’t be measured on features shipped — you’ll be measured on relevance and business outcomes, like conversion, revenue per visit, and search-attributed GMV, moving up.
You’ll start embedded with our Search Quality team, owning its strategy and roadmap and getting deep into the systems that decide what shoppers actually see. Over time, your mandate grows to setting direction for the entire Product Discovery Engine chapter — deciding where we’re heading and why across recall, ranking, query understanding, personalization, and the ML infrastructure underneath. This is a Staff role today with a clear path to Director as you take on chapter-wide leadership.
Search at Constructor is fundamentally a machine learning problem, so this role lives and breathes ML. You’ll partner closely with ML, data science, and engineering to turn the latest research into production wins, keep us ahead of both commercial competitors and academic state of the art, and be the connective tissue that aligns multiple teams — ML Recall, ML Infra, and, over time, teams like CORE, SABR, and Catalog Management — behind a single, coherent vision for great discovery.
If you’re excited about driving innovation across dozens of the world’s largest retailers, being held to relevance and business outcomes, and pushing an already best-in-class product further ahead, this role is for you.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Own business impact, not features. Drive measurable lift in search-attributed conversion, revenue per visit, and GMV alongside relevance across our customer base.
- Deliver across every retail industry. Move quality and business metrics across all the verticals we serve, accounting for the differences in catalog, language, and shopper intent.
- Keep us at the state of the art. Continuously translate the latest ML / IR research and competitive moves into production wins, and ship SOTA ML / LLM-assisted capabilities that beat our previous best on relevance.
- Set chapter vision and strategy. Define the multi-quarter direction for the Product Discovery Engine — where we’re heading and why — tie it directly to customer business outcomes, and rally teams behind it.
- Lead Search Quality first. Own its strategy and roadmap, driving measurable improvements in the relevance and correctness of results.
- Orchestrate across the pipeline. Unify recall, ranking, query understanding, and personalization behind one definition of quality and one set of business metrics, so improvements compound instead of colliding.
- Turn ML research into production wins. Partner deeply with ML and data science to take models — from candidate generation and recall to LLM-assisted interpretation — from idea to production, balancing accuracy, latency, and cost.
- Make quality measurable and explainable. Build the metrics, evaluation frameworks, and tooling the whole chapter uses to measure, attribute, and explain discovery quality and its business impact.
- Own quality under pressure. Lead investigation and triage when issues arise, and design durable, systemic fixes rather than one-off patches.
- Grow the mandate. Expand into chapter-wide leadership spanning ML Recall, ML Infra, and — over time — teams like CORE, SABR, and Catalog Management.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
Within your first year, you will have:
- Driven measurable lift in search-attributed conversion and revenue per visit — moving business metrics, not just quality metrics.
- Driven measurable business-metric lift (conversion, revenue per visit, GMV) and relevance lift across every major retail vertical we serve.
- Shipped at least one state-of-the-art ML / LLM-assisted capability into production that beats our previous best on relevance.
- Won head-to-head quality benchmarks against every major competitor in the verticals we compete in, with a repeatable, defensible methodology.
- Taken core quality metrics to best-in-class levels and kept them improving quarter over quarter.
- Stood up an evaluation framework and tooling that ties model and system investments directly to customer business outcomes.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
- Extensive product management experience (typically 8+ years) in search, discovery, ML, or NLP-heavy products, including time operating at a senior or staff level.
- A track record of moving business metrics at scale — conversion, revenue, engagement — not just shipping features, and of setting strategy across multiple teams.
- Deep understanding of the end-to-end search pipeline: query interpretation → recall / candidate generation → ranking → reranking → personalization → delivery.
- Strong ML product depth — owning production models and reasoning about tradeoffs between high-capacity (LLM / batch) and low-latency (real-time) approaches — and a habit of staying current with state-of-the-art research.
- Fluency with retrieval and recall, query understanding (tokenization, synonyms, spelling correction, multilingual support), and search evaluation frameworks.
- A rigorous, measurement-first mindset that ties every quality investment back to business outcomes.
- Excellent cross-functional leadership — able to align teams with different goals behind a shared definition of quality and a shared set of business metrics, working shoulder-to-shoulder with engineering, data science, and ML Ops.
- Comfort operating with ambiguity, setting direction where none exists yet, and leading through clarity and credibility rather than the org chart.
BENEFITS
- Unlimited vacation time — we strongly encourage all of our employees to take at least 3 weeks per year.
- A competitive compensation package including stock options.
- Company-sponsored US health coverage (100% paid for employee).
- Fully remote team — choose where you live.
- Work-from-home stipend! We want you to have the resources you need to set up your home office.
- Apple laptops provided for new employees.
- Training and development budget for every employee, refreshed each year.
- Parental leave for qualified employees.
- Work with smart people who will help you grow and make a meaningful impact.
