About the Role
Fivetran and dbt Labs are building data pipelines to power the modern data stack for thousands of companies.
We're looking for a staff software engineer to be a technical leader on our Metadata team, which owns the metadata layer of the dbt platform — the discovery API, catalog, lineage, and run history services that let customers understand, trust, and act on what their data is doing.
As a
Staff Software Engineer
, you'll contribute to the technical direction for the team. You'll own the architecture of major subsystems, lead complex projects that span multiple engineers, and raise the bar for design and code quality across the team. You'll spend your time on the hardest technical problems, and multiply the team through design reviews, coaching, and mentorship.
Technologies You'll Use
Python, GraphQL, Postgres, Snowflake, Kafka, Kubernetes, Docker, AWS, GCP, Datadog
What You'll Do
Lead the design and delivery of complex, team-level projects across the Metadata services, coordinating development across multiple engineers
Independently design and develop the architecture of new subsystems, and own team-level subsystems end to end
Use AI tooling and agents — across development and SDLC artifacts such as TDDs, PRDs, post-mortems, and test plans
Review and approve technical designs, ensuring they meet a high quality bar, and identify design deficiencies before they ship
Drive technical initiatives across the team's responsibility areas — discovery API, catalog, lineage, and run history
Set and uphold design, architecture, and coding best practices, and hold teammates accountable for code quality
Coach and mentor engineers, demonstrably improving the quality of code across the team
Write technical specs, document common components, and keep the team accountable for necessary project documentation
Fix and optimize critical parts of the codebase, drive incident follow-through, and advance the reliability and performance of the services you own
Participate periodically in the on-call rotation
Skills We're Looking For
8+ years of software engineering experience with a track record of leading complex, team-scope technical work to completion
Deep expertise designing and owning subsystems in distributed, cloud-based systems
Demonstrated ability to set technical direction for a team and drive multi-engineer initiatives across an area of ownership
Excellent design and architecture judgment; identifies design flaws in existing systems and proposes sound solutions with clear trade-offs
Writes exemplary, well-tested code that serves as a model for others, and reliably estimates and delivers sprint to sprint
Strong track record of raising quality through code review, coaching peers, and enforcing accepted engineering practices
Experience partnering with QE on test strategy and owning operational health — incidents, post-mortems, reliability, and performance
Proficiency in a modern backend or systems language such as Python, Java, C++, or C#
Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure), containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and managing dev infrastructure
Fluent in using AI code assistants and coding agents to generate and investigate code, and conversational AI (e.g. Claude, ChatGPT) to author, review, and synthesize SDLC artifacts — and able to model those practices for a team
Bonus Skills
Experience in data processing (ETL, ELT) and/or cloud-based data platforms
Experience architecting metadata, catalog, lineage, or discovery/search systems
Experience with GraphQL APIs and high-throughput, multi-tenant data services
Familiarity with the analytics engineering workflow and the dbt ecosystem

About the Role
Fivetran and dbt Labs are building data pipelines to power the modern data stack for thousands of companies. We're looking for an engineering manager to lead our Metadata team, which owns the metadata layer of the dbt platform: the discovery API, catalog, lineage, and run history services that let customers understand, trust, and act on what their data is doing.
You'll own technical excellence and delivery of a single team, from evolving high-throughput APIs and data models, to hardening reliability and latency for enterprise and single-tenant customers, to shipping new discovery and catalog capabilities in close partnership with product. You'll set direction, review designs and code, remove roadblocks, and grow the engineers on your team through coaching, feedback, and clear career development.
What You'll Do
Lead and grow a team of software engineers, owning hiring, onboarding, coaching, career development plans, and regular 1:1s and check-ins
Own project delivery for your team against the quarterly plan, and be accountable for the reliability and performance of the services you own (e.g. uptime and latency targets)
Review technical designs and code, and provide feedback grounded in a deep understanding of the Metadata product area and architecture
Drive the team to address technical quality — incidents, bugs, tech debt, and post-mortems — within SLA and metric targets
Partner with product and business stakeholders on planning, and maintain a realistic, prioritized feature and project backlog with a high completion rate
Contextualize and communicate the engineering vision and strategy to your team, and share the team's work and business impact with adjacent teams
Ensure engineering processes (e.g. FDLC) are implemented and consistently followed
Delegate effectively and build autonomy and a positive, high-trust culture within the team
Address performance issues and conflict promptly and fairly
Ensure your team uses AI tooling — IDE assistants like GitHub Copilot, coding agents like Claude Code, and conversational AI — to accelerate development and to author and review SDLC artifacts such as TDDs, PRDs, post-mortems, and test plans
Skills We're Looking For
Experience managing and growing a software engineering team(ideally a customer-facing product development team); including hiring, coaching, and running a full performance and career-development cycle
Strong technical foundation with the ability to review designs and code and make sound architectural trade-offs in a distributed, cloud-based systems environment
Track record of delivering complex projects on schedule while holding the team to high standards of quality, reliability, and performance
Experience owning production services and driving operational health — incident response, on-call practices, tech-debt reduction, and meeting SLAs
Ability to plan and prioritize with product partners, maintain a realistic backlog, and drive high sprint and quarterly completion rates
Communicates clearly and effectively across the team and with adjacent teams and stakeholders; keeps people well informed
Fluent in using AI code assistants, coding agents, and conversational AI (e.g. Claude, ChatGPT) to support the software development lifecycle, and able to establish those practices across a team
Bonus Skills
Experience building or operating metadata, catalog, lineage, or discovery/search systems
Experience with GraphQL APIs and high-throughput, multi-tenant data services
Familiarity with the analytics engineering workflow and the dbt ecosystem
Experience supporting enterprise or single-tenant customers with strict reliability and latency requirements

About the Role
dbt Fusion is building the next generation of data execution and connectivity infrastructure, enabling dbt workloads to run efficiently across diverse compute engines and data platforms. As a Senior Engineer on the Fusion Adapters and Connectivity team, you’ll design and ship core abstractions powering how dbt communicates with execution systems — leveraging Rust, Go, Arrow, and emerging open standards. This is a rare opportunity to work at the intersection of systems programming, database internals, and high-visibility open-source development. Your work will shape a foundational platform leveraged across the dbt ecosystem and the broader data community.
What You’ll Do
Design, build, and maintain Rust-first connectivity layers, execution APIs, and adapter scaffolding.
Partner with teams building the dbt compiler, semantic layer, and runtime to evolve adapter interfaces and system boundaries.
Contribute to Arrow/ADBC and other open-source specifications or implementations, strengthening the data ecosystem.
Own CI, testing frameworks, profiling, error reporting surfaces, and release readiness for Fusion adapters.
Debug complex interoperability and performance issues across drivers, engines, and compute domains.
Collaborate with internal and community maintainers to review PRs, write RFCs, and evolve public code architectures.
Mentor engineers on systems best practices and contribute to shared patterns around resilience, debuggability, and API clarity.
Skills We’re Looking For
Strong programming background in Rust, Go, C++ or similar performance-oriented languages.
Experience designing or maintaining SDKs, libraries, connectors, or compute/data integration codebases.
Exposure to data warehouses, query engines, Arrow/columnar ecosystems, or execution runtimes.
A desire to build foundational platform components that other teams and community members rely on.
Comfort working in public code review loops, async-first communication, and collaborative RFC processes.
A mindset grounded in debuggability, reliability, and ownership in ambiguous problem spaces.
You’ll have an edge if you have:
Contributed to or interacted with Arrow, ADBC, DuckDB, Presto, DataFusion, Spark, ClickHouse, or similar engines.
Experience shaping adapter/plugin standards, driver contracts, or architectural interfaces used by others.
Familiarity with Rust async ecosystems (tokio, tower, tracing) or Go concurrency practices.
Prior OSS governance experience — triaging issues, reviewing PRs, or working with community maintainers.
An interest in building developer-experience layers or scaffolding frameworks for adapter authors.
Qualifications:
6+ years experience in software engineering, with strong systems-level skills.
2+ years working in open-source, SDK, runtime, or low-level integration environments.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science / related field or equivalent experience through industry OSS contributions.

WHO ARE WE?
Cohere is the leading security-first enterprise AI company. We build cutting-edge foundation AI models and end-to-end products that are designed to solve real-world business problems.
We’re training and deploying frontier models for enterprises who are building AI systems. We believe that our work is instrumental to the widespread adoption of AI and we are looking for folks that want to be part of that.
We obsess over what we build. Each one of us is responsible for contributing to increasing the capabilities of our models and the value they drive for our customers. Cohere is a team of researchers, engineers, designers, and more, who are all passionate about their craft.
We are a global technology company headquartered in Toronto with key offices in London, New York City, San Francisco, Montreal, Paris, Berlin and Seoul. Join us!
Why this role?
Role Overview:
In this role, you will have ownership of the full sales cycle - from identifying leads to closing deals with Global 2000, large enterprises within the Energy (oil and gas) and Utility sectors. We’re looking for an approachable and compelling communicator who loves working with prospects to uncover their needs and feels comfortable developing tailored value propositions around how Cohere’s platform can help them achieve their business goals. You’ll lay the foundation for Cohere’s growth by owning your territory and collaborating with teammates across customer success, sales development, marketing, and solution architecture. You’ll be the voice of the field and help our product and engineering teams prioritize the Cohere roadmap with customer-centric care. It’s a highly self-directed role, so you should be someone who thrives in an unstructured and quickly evolving environment. And your opportunity for impact will be astronomical — Cohere has skies-the-limit potential, and you’ll help us reach it.
Key Responsibilities:
As a Strategic Account Executive focused on the Energy & Utilities industry, you will:
- Focus on net-new logo acquisition via outbound activity and relationship building with key stakeholders while also bringing a strong network of key decision-maker and influencer contacts and relationships in the energy (oil and gas) and utility industries to accelerate engagements, drive strategic partnerships and win sales opportunities
- Work closely with customers and prospects as a consultative, trusted advisor who deeply understands their challenges and goals, their technology ecosystem, and will tailor solutions to drive measurable impact for their businesses
- Work in close partnership with channel partners to find opportunities to scale outreach and customer satisfaction in your region
- Collaborate with product and engineering teams as well as customer success on strategic motions to deliver solutions to large enterprise customers
- Collaborate with Sales Development Representatives to drive top of funnel activity
- Own the full sales cycle – from initial outreach through proof-of-concept, pilot, deal close, and deployment ; this is not a transactional sale that you can walk away from after the contract is signed but rather requires ongoing oversight of the project to ensure success
Key Responsibilities:
You may be a good fit if you have:
- 8+ years of previous B2B sales experience with Global 2000, large enterprises in the energy (oil and gas) and utility sectors, negotiating and closing transformational multi-year (2-5 year) SaaS deals in the 7 figure range, and a track record of high performance and exceeding quota
- Previous experience as a technical consultative salesperson, selling complex products, such as developer tools, API products, or AI / NLP solutions, are a plus, with a focus on applications in the energy (oil and gas) and utility sector
- Previous experience working with customers during the deployment phase of the engagement, aligning on how best to configure and customize the solution that supports success in production and builds trust to set up for expansion and growth
- Previous experience working with channel partners such as cloud hyperscalers and system integrators to drive sales cycles and hit shared revenue goals
- High tolerance for ambiguity - as an early sales hire, you’ll have to be a self-starter, doer and a strategist who is capable of wearing many hats and doing what it takes to figure out a path to success
- Curiosity - you want to go deep on NLP and become an expert on our technology while considering how to fit into a large organization’s technology landscape with a focus on its applications in the energy (oil and gas) and utility sectors
- Fantastic communication skills - you are a great listener, have a knack for understanding what matters most to others, build strong relationships, can speak to the c-suite, and feel comfortable speaking to both technical and non-technical audiences in the energy (oil and gas) and utility sectors
Qualifications:
- Deep understanding of the energy (oil and gas) and utility industries, including key trends, challenges, and opportunities
- Ability to articulate the value of AI and NLP solutions in the context of energy (oil and gas) and utility operations, such as predictive maintenance, supply chain optimization, and customer engagement
- Experience working with regulatory and compliance requirements specific to the energy (oil and gas) and utility industries
Cohere is committed to fair and transparent pay practices. The salary range listed for this role reflects the expected base compensation. Actual compensation offered will be determined by factors such as location, level, job-related knowledge, skills, education, and experience.

About North:
North https://cohere.com/north is Cohere's cutting-edge AI workspace platform, designed to revolutionize the way enterprises utilize AI. It offers a secure and customizable environment, allowing companies to deploy AI while maintaining control over sensitive data. North integrates seamlessly with existing workflows, providing a trusted platform that connects AI agents with workplace tools and applications.
Why this role:
The Data Abstractions & Tools team is the group inside North responsible for how users bring their data into the platform and put it to work. We own the systems that let users upload, organize, and share their files and knowledge bases, the framework for extending agents with skills and third-party integrations, and the data-sync pipeline that connects enterprise data sources to North's agents.
North connects to a growing set of external tools and data sources so its agents can act on a user's real workflow. This role owns the integration pipeline end-to-end: adding new integrations to the platform, helping other engineers do the same, and becoming the owner of the process that makes that repeatable. You will also create the evals and tests that make sure those integrations work as expected and keep working as the platform evolves.
In this role, you will:
- Build new integrations (tools) on the North agentic platform, and maintain the ones already in production.
- Own the integration pipeline: the process for adding a new tool, from design to shipping to ongoing maintenance.
- Help other engineers add integrations of their own, and raise the bar for how the team does it.
- Create evals and tests to make sure integrations work as expected and alert on regressions.
- Tune tool descriptions to improve performance based on feedback and evals.
- Use AI actively in your work, while staying accountable for the quality and reliability of what you ship.
You may be a good fit if:
- You have shipped production code and are comfortable building integrations against external APIs.
- You have a background in evaluating agentic systems (ideal), or at minimum know what an eval is and are comfortable with prompt engineering and tool-description tuning.
- You excel in fast-paced environments and can execute while priorities are a moving target.
- You bring high agency: you learn quickly and drive change without waiting for perfect instructions.
- You've owned things end-to-end before and care about the quality of what ships, not just that it shipped.
- You enjoy helping other engineers succeed, not just shipping your own work.
Working Location:
This role can be based remotely or from one of our office locations listed on the job description - there is no minimum in-office qualification requirement. We care most about hiring exceptional people regardless of locations, though please check the location listed on the posting for guidance around the core time zone or working hours alignment expected for the role.

This is a full-time, fully remote position. We do expect the successful candidate to come to the Oakland, CA office from time to time.

From Fivetran’s founding until now, our mission has remained the same: to make access to data as simple and reliable as electricity. With Fivetran, customer data arrives in their warehouses, canonical and ready to query, with no engineering or maintenance required. We’re proud that more organizations continue to leverage our technology every day to become truly data-driven.
About Us
Fivetran and dbt Labs are bringing together two industry-leading companies with a shared mission: helping organizations unlock the full value of their data.
Together, we’re delivering the data infrastructure layer that helps organizations move, transform, and trust their data — from the moment data moves, through every transformation, to the context teams and AI systems rely on.
Fivetran helps organizations automate data movement across the systems, clouds, engines, and tools they rely on. dbt Labs pioneered analytics engineering, helping teams transform data into reliable, governed insights. Together, we support thousands of organizations as they build a trusted foundation for analytics, AI, and better business decisions.
As we bring our teams and technology together, we’re building on the strengths of both companies while continuing to deliver the products and experiences our customers know and trust. It’s an exciting time to join us: we’re creating a company with the scale, talent, and technology to help more organizations put their data to work with greater speed, confidence, and impact.
During this transition period, you may see references to both Fivetran and dbt Labs throughout our recruiting process as we integrate our teams, systems, and career sites.
About the Role
Fivetran is building data pipelines to power the modern data stack for thousands of companies.
We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our core team and perform a healthy mix of design and implementation tasks to advance the technical foundation behind the Fivetran product offering.
This team is tasked with evolving a high performance extract-load-trans form data integration system that enables our engineering teams to correctly implement hundreds of data connectors with minimal maintenance effort. The role will challenge you to reason about relational semantics, powerful abstractions, data representation, and software performance. You don’t need to be a subject matter expert before you join us (you will be one before you leave!), but you will need to have experience working carefully with a high impact software team — especially in environments where the best option may not be obvious, your decisions have cascading implications, and where you sometimes need to measure twice before you cut once. A successful candidate will be humble enough to collect diverse input and build consensus, will be experienced and confident enough to be decisive when it’s needed, and will be practical enough to build and iterate on the system while it’s in production. We are also looking for expertise and productivity with both modern and legacy software development environments.
This is a full-time position based out of our Novi Sad office. Our hybrid work model offers a blend of remote flexibility and in-person collaboration.
Technologies You’ll Use
C (our main language), Python (used in testing), relational databases (Postgres, Oracle, SQL Server), make
GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Jenkins, GCP , Azure, AWS
macOS/Linux/Unix/Windows, git
What You’ll Do
Learn deeply about Fivetran in order to focus development on practical and relevant system improvements
Contribute to the development and planning of our roadmap
Collaborate with a small but mighty core team, and with a broader set of stakeholders
Work across the project lifecycle: requirements, design, prototype, implementation, review, release, monitoring
Review and approve pull requests
Care and feel ownership of our product, and leverage your skills towards improving it
Skills We’re Looking For
You are execution-oriented, and understand the need to target your “innovation budget” for the greatest impact: you find the middle ground between “perfect, but takes forever to code” and “fixes it now, but nobody will ever be able to understand what I did”
You know how to design and code systems and software that is effective, intuitive, easy-to-operate, and elegantly simple
You have worked with the relevant tooling and techniques: cloud services, network protocols, serialization, relational databases, etc.
You have knowledge of complex structures, object orientation, exceptions, memory management techniques.
Bonus Skills
Experience with data replication, ETL/ELT tools, cloud and software defined infrastructure tools (for instance AWS Cloud Formation, Kubernetes, Docker), API technologies and analytics is definitely a plus
Knowledge of DBMS internals is a strong plus
Familiarity with low level concepts, such as encoding and the internals of network communication, is a strong plus
Familiarity with system level programming (such as process and memory management and inter-process communication) is a plus

About the role
We’re looking for a Staff Infrastructure Engineer with GCP, Azure, or AWS expertise to help us build a seamless, reliable platform for the dbt platform across AWS, Azure, and GCP. Our team’s mission is to create a seamless developers experience by providing a stable, observable, and easy-to-use infrastructure platform.
Over the past year, we’ve designed and operationalized a next-gen cell-based architecture, scaling the dbt platform across all three cloud providers. Now, we’re focused on automation, self-service, and improving developer velocity through better tooling, processes, and infrastructure design.

What You'll Do
Design, operate, and support infrastructure systems with parity across tenancy models (single vs multi) and public clouds (AWS, Azure, and GCP) - and work with engineering teams to get their services consistently deployed to those environments
Bring cloud infrastructure expertise to the team, helping us strengthen and scale our infrastructure as we expand dbt Cloud’s multi-cloud capabilities.
Help create a great developer experience while working with our close partners in Architecture, Release Engineering, Product Engineering and Security
Leverage tools and languages such as Terraform, Kubernetes, Python, Bash, Helm, ArgoCD, Go, and DataDog
Design and build automation to eliminate manual toil and streamline infrastructure operations at scale
Identify and implement infrastructure optimizations that reduce cloud spend without sacrificing reliability
Participate in a balanced on-call rotation in an environment that values continuous improvement, and help to upgrade our tooling and reduce toil
Skills We're Looking For
10+ years of Experience with the clouds, tools, and languages in our stack, especially: AWS\Azure\GCP, Terraform, Kubernetes, Python, and Bash
Solid experience with declarative Infrastructure as Code - ideally with Terraform or a willingness to learn while leveraging your CloudFormation or ARM\Bicep background
Love to automate tasks
Worked asynchronously as part of a fully-remote, distributed team - and have excellent communication and writing skills
Prior experience in a multiple cloud environment
More extensive Kubernetes administration and troubleshooting background
