Metabase is the easiest way for people to get insights from their data, from tiny startups who get up and running quickly to major corporations with tens of thousands of users. That's why people love us.
We bring data tools with the elegance and simplicity of consumer products to the crufty world of enterprise business intelligence. We provide an opinionated open source starting point for how companies should measure, analyze and share their data, which is used by tens of thousands of companies.
We built Metabase because existing tools for business intelligence didn’t feel like things we wanted to use. We wanted faster, simpler ways to ask questions about data, and wanted to strip away the colder feel of most Enterprise software. Folks seemed to agree, and now Metabase is used daily by tens of thousands of companies to give people in all sorts of roles access to insights they wouldn’t have otherwise had. None of this could happen without our user interface and that’s where you come in. We’re looking for someone with strong product sensibilities, extraordinarily good frontend skills, and solid software engineering fundamentals to join our team to advance the state of the art in our product and our industry.
We are hiring for multiple Engineering Manager positions.
You Will
Directly manage a team of engineers and help them ship features that delight Metabase users.
Work closely with Product, Design, and Success teams to plan and execute on the product roadmap, balancing feature development, tech improvements and bug fixes.
Coach individuals, tune processes, remove obstacles, and optimize the environment to continuously increase the speed of iteration.
Be technical, deeply understand the problems the team is solving and make decisions within that context.
Hire, onboard, and nurture top-level engineering IC talent.
Skills and Experience
Strong written and verbal communication, with a bias to written communication to support async processes in a fully remote and distributed team.
2+ years of engineering management experience or equivalent (you can demonstrate skill at key aspects of building and improving an engineering team, and supporting and developing people's careers).
Ability to debug project execution to identify issues and changes to one or more of people, process, and project scope.
Strong product sensibilities - you can critically navigate product proposal docs and Figma designs and translate them to engineering requirements that span the Metabase product stack, and identify and mitigate risks to building them.
Strong technical background in one of: Clojure or Frontend (React + Typescript) ecosystems.
Main attributes we look for in candidates
Outcome focused, with the ability to ship code by removing obstacles and making decisions.
Highly technical - can fluently read code, tech design docs, can engage in technical discussions that make the technical artifacts better, can provide constructive technical feedback, and is very close to the implementation details
Use their technical understanding to make decisions regarding project execution and delivery.
Problem decomposition to reduce risk, increase surface area for feedback and to be able to continuously adjust plans taking reality into account.
Ability to coach and grow engineers, especially in a low structure environment without formal titles and well-defined career ladders.
Why should you consider Metabase
We're relentlessly user-focused and believe in building long-term value, not short-term hacks. And we raised a $30M Series B to take our approach to the next level for years to come.
We are
open source
and you can check out the code to see what exactly we do. Look at
our roadmap
to see what we plan to build next!
The problems we face are genuinely interesting and aren’t trivial. Data influences so much of our world but isn’t that easy to interact with or understand. You’ll make tools that people rely on for their real jobs.
The business is growing and so is the company!
We're a fully remote global team (in 30 countries and growing). We get things done asynchronously with plenty of uninterrupted time and supporting each other to do the best work of our careers.

About us
OpenZeppelin is the security standard onchain finance is built on. Founded in 2015, our mission is to accelerate the world's transition to an open financial system, built on open standards and secured by rigorous research.
Our open-source Contract Libraries have facilitated over $35 trillion in onchain value and are used by 10 of the top 10 tokenized money market funds and 9 of the top 10 stablecoins by market cap.
We combine AI-native security tooling with deep research and a decade of audit expertise to support leading institutions and crypto-native teams shaping the next generation of digital assets like DTCC, Fidelity, Coinbase, Uniswap, Aave, the Ethereum Foundation, and many more across the full secure development lifecycle.
Please note:
Always refer to OpenZeppelin's official job page for the most accurate information about our open roles, as we have seen multiple third party job sites posting inaccurate information.
The Security Services Team
OpenZeppelin's Security Services team is responsible for the security of the world's leading web3 protocols and top financial institutions building onchain. Our researchers partner with client teams across the full lifecycle of a protocol: working on architecture and design before any code is written, co-creating novel mechanisms and primitives with engineering teams, conducting deep audits of pre-launch codebases, and providing continuous coverage as production systems evolve. Our clients range from emerging projects shipping their first contracts to global financial institutions running production onchain systems at scale.
What you'll be doing
Review smart contracts for top decentralized applications, blockchain infrastructure and financial institutions before they launch. Find vulnerabilities, prioritize them, and present findings to the client.
Drive audits independently from start to finish, with AI as your primary collaborator. When useful, partner with another researcher to attack the code together and pressure-test findings.
Partner with client teams during the design phase of new protocols, analyzing architecture, trust assumptions, and operational constraints before any code is written (Design Reviews, Applied Research engagements).
Use AI efficiently throughout the audit process, and build skills, agents, and workflows that compound across the team.
Conduct open-ended research into cutting-edge blockchain technologies, vulnerability classes, and emerging attack vectors, and contribute findings back to OpenZeppelin's internal knowledge base and to the broader ecosystem.
You have
Hands-on and practical experience in one or more of the following: software development, cybersecurity, applied mathematics, distributed systems, cryptography, cryptoeconomics or game theory, or DeFi mechanisms.
Experience designing and developing smart contracts, not only auditing them.
Strong working knowledge of Solidity and the broader Ethereum / EVM ecosystem (common libraries, frameworks, smart contract patterns).
Modern AI tooling is central to how you work, not a novelty. You use it daily to expand audit coverage, reason about complex systems, and produce high-quality outputs faster. You evaluate AI-generated code with a critical eye.
Comfort building and extending your own tooling (skills, agents, prompts, scripts, or full workflows) that the rest of the team can adopt and build on.
An advanced English level and strong communication skills (oral and written).
Nice to have
Experience with non-EVM ecosystems and languages, such as Canton, Move (Sui, Aptos), Golang (Cosmos SDK), Cairo (Starknet), Rust-based blockchains (Solana, Stellar), or ZK circuits and cryptography-heavy systems.
Experience with risk assessment work in the crypto industry (smart contract risk assessment, threat modeling).
Working hand-in-hand with protocol teams on co-creative engagements, helping design, specify, and implement smart contracts alongside the research.
Web2 security expertise (penetration testing, web application security, infrastructure security, or appsec).
Experience with formal verification, invariant testing, or advanced fuzzing tools (Echidna, Foundry, Halmos, Certora).
A track record in audit contests (Code4rena, Sherlock, Cantina) or bug bounty platforms (Immunefi, HackerOne).
Public security research output, such as published findings, blog posts, conference talks, or contributions to open-source security tooling.
Logistics
Our interview process takes place on Google Meet and tends to consist of the following stages:
Recruiter call (30 minutes)
Manager interview (60 minutes)
Technical interview (60 minutes)
Paid work trial (paid code review assessment)
Reference checks
Please let us know if you require any accommodations for the interview process, and we’ll do our best to provide assistance.

We’re looking for exceptional software engineers to join our team in doing the hard work that makes our users’ lives easy. We run on a mix of Clojure and JavaScript (and TypeScript), and the ideal candidate has shipped production code in one or more of these languages. You’ll be expected to ship major features end to end across our JavaScript and Clojure codebase, as well as deal with some of our trickier backend issues as they arise. Some familiarity with machine learning, compiler theory and modern big data infrastructures would be helpful. You should have strong product sensibilities and deeply care about the end user experience.
We are hiring for multiple backend software engineer positions.
About You
Experience in Clojure (or a strong desire to learn)
Track record of shipping products of significant complexity
Solid CS background (acquired through either a CS program or shipping software in a production setting)
Able to make good technical judgements and back them up articulately
Nice to have: Experience with JDBC and database integrations
Nice to have: Experience and knowledge of the Java ecosystem and JVM tuning
Nice to have: history of open source contributions
Nice to have: experience in JavaScript / Typescript (our frontend is in JS and TS)
Compensation
The US base salary range for this role is $110K–$210K annually, plus equity and benefits.
Compensation is determined by role, level, location, and individual qualifications, including skills, experience, and scope of responsibility. Pay may vary by geographic location and other job-related factors.

We offer meaningful equity and a comprehensive US benefits package, including fully employer-covered medical, dental, and vision insurance (with 75% coverage for dependents), a 401(k) with employer match available to enroll after the first 30 days, flexible and unlimited paid time off including sick time, and an asynchronous, remote-first environment.
We're a global team (50% outside the US), fully distributed (from Thailand to California), who get things done asynchronously, with plenty of uninterrupted time, supporting each other to do the best work of our careers. We offer flexibility (define your own schedule and work from wherever you want), autonomy, and an environment that fosters growth, learning, and development. We're relentlessly user-focused and believe in building long-term value, not short-term hacks. And we raised a $30M Series B to take our approach to the next level for years to come.
