About the Risk & Analytics Team:
The Risk & Analytics (R&A) team makes crucial decisions that direct Affirm’s business strategy. They partner with Machine Learning, Product, Engineering, Capital Markets, and Commercial teams to grow Affirm responsibly by optimizing approval, conversion, losses, and profitability. The team operates across the entire customer and merchant lifecycle, tackling challenges such as optimizing checkout conversion, mitigating fraud risk, building scalable data foundations, and enabling international growth. They analyze performance to determine where to invest resources for maximum impact by building tools, scalable data infrastructure, and analytical frameworks. They also improve the analytics experience by streamlining workflows and fostering a culture of learning and documentation. The team takes ownership of the entire analytical lifecycle, turning complex data and systems into clear, actionable signals to ensure efficient and intelligent growth.
One Role, Multiple Teams:
Affirm is hiring multiple Analyst I roles across the Risk & Analytics organization through a single job posting. Candidates undergo a shared interview process assessing core skills across R&A. Selected candidates will be matched to teams based on interests, experience, strengths, and business needs. Potential team placements include:
- Point of Sale (POS): Optimize merchant and checkout performance to improve conversion, approvals, and unit economics.
- Direct to Consumer (DTC) / Card: Drive engagement, repeat usage, and lifecycle health across Affirm's app, web, and card experiences.
- Fraud: Prevent and reduce fraud losses while maintaining a frictionless user experience.
- Core Analytics: Build quantitative research, machine learning models, performance monitoring, and scalable data foundations.
- Servicing: Enhance post-origination customer experience by analyzing repayment behavior, collections strategies, and operational efficiency.
- International Expansion: Build measurement and decision foundations for launching and scaling Affirm in new global markets.
About the Role:
As an Analyst I, you will join one of several analytical teams working across the customer and merchant lifecycle. Tasks depend on team placement but share a foundation of using data to understand business performance, identify opportunities, and help Affirm make better decisions. You will learn consumer lending fundamentals while executing scoped analytical work under senior guidance. You will use SQL, Python, and modern analytical tools to optimize strategies, monitor performance, and convert complex data into actionable insights. The role requires eagerness to build a strong technical foundation, navigate market changes, and integrate AI tools to solve problems efficiently.
What You Will Do:
- Derive Insights & Support Strategy: Use data analytics to uncover insights optimizing product, risk, or growth strategies across geographies.
- Monitor Portfolio Health: Track performance metrics, user behavior, and macroeconomic trends impacting business outcomes; flag risks and anomalies.
- Technical Execution: Write clean SQL and Python to build scalable reporting; partner with Engineering to support deployment of machine learning and risk models.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with Product, Legal, and Compliance to understand consumer lending regulations and market requirements; assist in translating them into data models and policies.
- Drive Launch Alignment: Support discussions ensuring new product launches and market entries align with operational capabilities and risk appetite.
- AI Fluency & Efficiency: Integrate AI tools like Cursor, Claude Code, and copilots into workflows to accelerate data mining and routine tasks, verifying outputs carefully.
What We Look For:
- 1–3 years experience in analytically driven roles.
- Relevant internships or experience in consumer lending, fintech, or financial services valued.
- Degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering, Economics, or related quantitative field.
- Solid working knowledge of SQL, Python, or other scripting languages.
- Familiarity with data mining, visualization, and foundational statistical modeling.
- Basic understanding or curiosity about consumer lending regulations, fair lending principles, and machine learning applications.
- Exceptional communication skills, humility, and ability to collaborate cross-functionally.
Pay Grade - I:
Affirm offers a simple, transparent pay structure based on location, experience, and skills. Base pay is part of total compensation including monthly stipends for health, wellness, tech spending, and benefits (100% subsidized medical, dental, vision for employees and dependents). Employees may be eligible for equity rewards from Affirm Holdings, Inc.
USA base pay range per year:
- CA, WA, NY, NJ, CT: $115,000 - $165,000
- All other U.S. states: $101,000 - $151,000
Work Format:
Remote-first with flexibility; most roles can be done from almost anywhere within the country of employment. Some positions may require occasional in-person work or be office-based. All new hires attend in-person onboarding.
