About the Job:
We’re looking for an Engineering Manager to lead LaunchDarkly’s Cloud Engineering team, responsible for foundational infrastructure including AWS accounts, networking, multi-region Kubernetes infrastructure, Terraform and GitOps workflows, CockroachDB operations, disaster-recovery capabilities, and FedRAMP infrastructure posture.
Responsibilities:
— Lead and develop a senior Cloud Engineering team with coaching, feedback, performance management, and career development.
— Own operational health of cloud infrastructure including incident response, on-call health, service-level objectives, resilience, and disaster recovery.
— Launch and deliver a multi-quarter infrastructure insourcing program from planning through completion.
— Guide technical priorities and tradeoffs across AWS infrastructure, networking, Kubernetes, infrastructure as code, GitOps, datastore operations, and compliance-related infrastructure.
— Build leverage through software, automation, and paved paths to help product engineering teams use infrastructure safely and independently.
— Support migrations with guidance and enablement while maintaining clear ownership boundaries.
— Establish team norms for AI-assisted engineering and identify opportunities to reduce operational toil through AI and automation.
— Maintain team health and continuity through change, fostering an inclusive, collaborative, and accountable environment.
— Partner with various platform and product engineering teams on shared infrastructure priorities and dependencies.
— Communicate roadmaps, operational risks, investment needs, and progress to leadership and stakeholders.
— Participate in hiring and team planning as the organization grows.
Qualifications:
— 2+ years managing infrastructure, platform engineering, or site reliability engineering teams at a product company, including people management of on-call teams.
— Demonstrated ownership of incident response, on-call health, and service-level objective frameworks.
— Experience leading multi-quarter infrastructure migration or insourcing programs.
— Technical fluency with AWS, Kubernetes, and infrastructure-as-code practices.
— Experience managing leadership transitions and maintaining team engagement and retention.
— Clear perspective on team norms and practices for AI-assisted engineering.
— Strong communication skills.
— Calm and accountable leadership, especially during incidents and change.
Nice to Haves:
— Experience with vendor negotiations or cloud cost management.
— Experience supporting FedRAMP or compliance-related infrastructure.
— Experience operating large-scale datastores or OLAP systems.
— Experience growing a team through funded expansion.
Pay:
— Target pay ranges based on US geographic zones from $163,000 to $263,670 annually, inclusive of a 10% bonus target.
