The position is 100% remote. The role involves designing, implementing, and maintaining the EDB Postgres Distributed (PGD) product, a multi-master distributed PostgreSQL solution providing high availability, geographic distribution, and active-active replication for enterprise workloads.
Responsibilities:
— Design, develop, test, and document new PGD capabilities
— Maintain and improve performance and usability of existing PGD capabilities
— Analyze business requirements and translate them into executable tasks
— Provide world-class production support to PGD customers
— Participate in code reviews and collaborate with a globally distributed team
Requirements:
— 5+ years of software engineering experience
— Strong proficiency in C programming
— Experience with PostgreSQL internals (storage engine, WAL, replication, catalog system, or extension development)
— Understanding of distributed systems concepts including replication topologies, consensus, conflict resolution, eventual consistency, and failure modes
— Experience with multi-version/multi-branch codebases and active backporting workflows
— Familiarity with build systems and CI/CD practices
— Comfortable working with Git on large, long-lived codebases with complex branching
— Strong debugging and performance analysis skills
Advantages:
— Prior contributions to PostgreSQL or other open-source database projects
— Experience with logical replication, logical decoding, or custom replication solutions
— Knowledge of distributed consensus algorithms such as Raft
— Familiarity with PostgreSQL extension API and hook system
— Experience with high availability architectures and failover mechanisms
— Experience with Python and Rust
— Experience with major cloud providers: AWS, Azure, GCP
— Experience with Ansible, Docker, and Kubernetes
