We are around 180 people, fully remote, backed by a $150M Series C investment from a16z, Sequoia Capital and Paradigm.
As a UX Researcher at Phantom, you will help us understand how people manage their money, discover opportunities, and trade with confidence. You will combine direct user understanding with behavioral data to build shared evidence that informs strategy, priorities, and execution across Product, Design, Engineering, Data Science, Marketing, Support, and leadership. The role sits within Design and partners across functions to prioritize important questions, communicate what findings mean for their work, and follow through on how insights are used.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Partner with cross-functional teams to prioritize the questions that matter most, matching each study’s scope, method, and depth to the decision, available resources, and risk.
- Lead discovery and evaluation across the product lifecycle: uncover unmet needs, test early concepts, and assess how shipped experiences work in people’s real contexts.
- Partner with Data Science to connect user understanding with funnel and cohort analysis, experiments, and outcome measurement.
- Translate research into clear insights and recommendations that inform cross-functional strategy, priorities, and product decisions. Use concise narratives, visual evidence, and working sessions to help teams and leadership understand implications, raise risks, and follow through from findings to action.
- Bring Product, Design, and Engineering into the research process, and coach partners to run appropriate lightweight studies with a high quality bar.
- Make research easy to engage with through clear paths for researcher-led work, coached self-service, and specialist support, backed by a well-maintained participant panel, reusable evidence, and practical tools.
- Build a repeatable listening loop with Support, Marketing, and Data Science, combining direct research and targeted feedback to track changing needs across priority journeys and cohorts, while caring for participants and their information.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Significant experience leading product research end to end, with a portfolio showing your ownership and how your work changed product or business decisions.
- Strong qualitative research craft and judgment about which methods fit which questions, including interviews, observation, concept testing, usability studies, and surveys. Balance speed and evidence quality according to the decision’s importance.
- Sound analytical judgment, including the ability to partner with Data Science, interpret behavioral data, and explain sampling and evidence limitations.
- Experience building or improving a research practice in an environment where you needed to prioritize, work independently, and help others learn.
- Clear, direct, and kind communication, strong synthesis, and demonstrated ability to translate research into insights that inform decisions across functions. Explain implications for different audiences, challenge assumptions, surface risks, and build alignment through evidence.
- Proactive ownership and sound judgment: make deliberate tradeoffs, deliver with urgency and quality, and move work forward when information is incomplete.
- Curiosity about financial products and the ability to make complex or unfamiliar experiences understandable.
Nice to have
- Experience researching consumer fintech, investing, trading, payments, or crypto.
- Experience recruiting across diverse markets or studying trust, risk, onboarding, and repeat use.
- Familiarity with product analytics, SQL, or AI-assisted research workflows, supported by strong human judgment.
The target base salary for this role will range between $200,000 to $250,000 with the addition of equity and benefits. This is determined by a few factors including your skillset, prior relevant experience, quality of interviews and market factors at the point in time of offer.

But what really sets OnePay apart is how we move. Our customers don’t have time to wait… and neither do we. This place moves fast, and we’re looking for people who are:
- Ready to run
- Hungry and driven by urgency
- Exceptional at what they do, with low ego
- Comfortable operating in motion
THE ROLE
Compliance Controls & Monitoring (C&M) is OnePay’s second line of defense, responsible for establishing and overseeing the firm's compliance control environment. Distinct from independent Compliance Testing, C&M identifies and assesses regulatory risks, evaluates controls, and drives compliant product and operational outcomes across the product lifecycle. This role requires an experienced compliance professional who can independently evaluate complex regulatory matters, recommend practical solutions, and execute compliance oversight activities in a fast-paced, evolving financial services environment.
What Makes This Role Different:
OnePay is a growing company with a broad and evolving product set, and our regulatory landscape evolves alongside it. This role sits at the center of that growth. You'll assess new and changing products, apply regulatory requirements to situations that don't always have clear precedent, and help the business find compliant paths forward. Strong partnerships with Product, Legal, and Operations is a given, and your goal is to bring a clear, well-reasoned compliance perspective to that table. The best fit is someone who is energized by that kind of work: exercising sound judgment on complex questions, communicating risk clearly and constructively, and advocating independently for the right controls.
You will:
- Regulatory Advisory & Business Partnership: Build trusted relationships across Product, Operations, Engineering, Marketing, Legal, and Compliance. Independently evaluate business practices and controls against applicable regulatory requirements, provide practical compliance guidance, and confidently challenge potential noncompliance while influencing appropriate corrective actions.
- Compliance Controls: Evaluate compliance control design and adequacy, identify gaps in regulatory coverage, and recommend and drive enhancements. Support control development, risk-to-control mapping, documentation, and maintenance of the centralized compliance control inventory within the firm's GRC platform.
- Compliance Risk Assessment: Execute and maintain compliance risk assessments across products, processes, and regulatory requirements. Evaluate inherent risk, control coverage, and residual risk; recommend appropriate mitigation; and support implementation and ongoing maintenance of compliance risk assessment processes within the firm's GRC platform.
- Execution & Continuous Improvement: Independently manage assigned compliance activities and initiatives through completion while balancing competing priorities and deadlines. Identify opportunities to improve processes, increase efficiency, and enhance operational effectiveness.
- Change Management: Assess regulatory compliance implications of new or modified products, business processes, systems, and operational changes. Partner with stakeholders to evaluate control impacts and support appropriate compliance measures throughout implementation.
YOU BRING
- Mid Career (5-10 Years) with progressively responsible advisory experience within banking, fintech, or consumer financial services, with strong knowledge of applicable federal and state consumer financial protection laws and regulations.
- Demonstrated ability to independently interpret regulatory requirements, provide credible challenge, and influence decisions across cross-functional stakeholders, including comfort making and defending well-reasoned judgment calls on nuanced questions and evolving regulatory guidance.
- Hands-on experience conducting compliance risk assessments, evaluating control design and effectiveness, and working with risk registers or GRC platforms.
- Strong critical thinking and communication skills, with the ability to explain regulatory risk clearly and constructively to business partners, and to advocate independently for the right controls.
- Proven ability to manage competing priorities and drive work to completion with a high degree of ownership.
- Experience in a fintech, startup, or similarly dynamic financial services environment preferred.
- CRCM, CIA or equivalent certification preferred.
WHAT WE OFFER
- Competitive base salary, stock options, and health benefits from Day 1
- 401(k) plan with company match
- Remote-friendly (US), flexible time off (FTO), and opportunities for growth
- A high-growth, mission-driven, inclusive culture where your work has real impact
STANDARD INTERVIEW PROCESS

An overview of this role
Growth Marketing is the activation and delivery arm of GitLab marketing: campaigns, regional and field marketing, lifecycle and product led growth, marketing engineering and operations, corporate events including Transcend, partner marketing, community programs and Co-Create. If a program connects GitLab to a customer or a buyer, it lives here, and the team is accountable for pipeline, first orders, Flex conversion and expansion, and post sale adoption.
As Principal Growth Marketing Strategist you work directly with the VP of Growth Marketing as a strategic partner and operator. You hold the whole picture of the engine: the goals every function has committed to, the budget and where it is moving, the strategic projects that do not fit cleanly inside any one function, and the decisions that are waiting on an answer. You keep that picture current, you act on it when the VP is engaged elsewhere, and you use it to move work faster.
This is an individual contributor role at the Principal level. You do not manage a team. You manage outcomes across ten functions through influence, judgment and follow through, and you are trusted to speak for Growth Marketing in rooms the VP cannot be in. The people on the leadership team are senior, experienced marketers; they will work with you because you make them faster and sharper, not because of the title.
You will be effective in this role if you have led marketing yourself at a senior level, understand how a modern B2B software company makes money, are curious and hands on with AI in your own work, and can move between a budget trade off, a partner negotiation, a pipeline review and a keynote plan in the same day without losing the thread.
What you'll do
Run Growth Marketing's operating rhythm: goals, business reviews, planning cycles and the metrics inspection behind them, so decisions get made, recorded and followed through.
Track commitments across the leadership team between their 1:1s with the VP, so those conversations are about strategy rather than status.
Own the strategic projects that matter to Growth Marketing and have no single functional home: scope them, find the owner or be the owner, and land them.
Hold the budget picture across the team, prepare trade offs with a recommendation, and act within the authority the VP has delegated in writing.
Represent Growth Marketing on the VP's behalf in pipeline reviews, cross functional planning and partner conversations; carry the position in and the decision out.
Unblock functional leaders when the VP is engaged elsewhere, or stage the issue so it takes one conversation rather than three.
Be a thinking partner to any functional leader who wants one, offered rather than assigned.
Partner with marketing's AI Transformation Owner so AI adoption across Growth Marketing is visible, measured and moving.
Prepare the VP for high stakes moments: executive updates, leadership material, keynotes, customer and partner meetings, with the numbers checked and the first draft written.
What you'll bring
Extensive experience in B2B software marketing with senior leadership experience: you have owned a marketing function, a large program budget or a go to market motion, and you have been accountable for a pipeline or revenue number.
Breadth across marketing. You have worked in or closely with demand and digital, field and events, lifecycle or product led growth, partner marketing and marketing operations, and you can hold a credible conversation with an expert in each.
A track record of landing cross functional projects that nobody owned, through influence rather than authority, with executives, peers and individual contributors.
Business fluency: you read a P&L, a pipeline report and a budget model comfortably, you understand consumption and subscription business models, and you can explain a trade off to a CFO in plain language.
Program and operating rhythm experience: goal frameworks, business reviews, planning cycles, and the discipline to keep them honest without turning them into bureaucracy.
Hands on AI fluency. You use AI tools daily in your own work, you have built or configured something with them, and you are curious about how they change the way a marketing organization operates. Prior experience in a chief of staff, strategy and operations, or business operations role is welcome but not required.
Executive communication: concise writing, clear verbal briefs, comfort presenting to and being questioned by VPs and C level leaders, and the judgment to know what travels up and what does not.
Discretion. You will handle confidential people, budget and strategy information every day.
Familiarity with developer, DevOps or platform engineering audiences, or the ability to get there fast.
The ability to use GitLab, and to travel occasionally for events and leadership offsites.

Build and maintain delivery plans with clear milestones, owners, and dependencies, working with engineering leads to account for team capacity and sequencing.
Drive cross-team planning and alignment, facilitating the discussions and working sessions needed to make decisions and maintain progress.
Manage dependencies across client experiences, backend services, and supporting platforms, ensuring integration points and handoffs are understood and coordinated.
Identify delivery risks early, drive mitigation and recovery plans, and escalate issues with clear options and recommendations.
Work with product and engineering partners to resolve competing priorities and make informed trade-offs across scope, timing, quality, and technical constraints.
Coordinate with engineering, quality, and release partners to support integration testing, issue prioritization, and launch readiness.
Communicate program progress, risks, and business impact clearly to technical partners and business stakeholders, highlighting decisions needed and presenting clear options and recommendations.
Improve execution across teams by introducing practical changes to processes and tools, measuring their effectiveness, and incorporating feedback.

6+ years of technical program or project management experience delivering software products, online services, or consumer-facing experiences.
Demonstrated success leading programs across multiple engineering teams, including managing dependencies, aligning priorities, and coordinating releases.
Strong understanding of the software development lifecycle, with hands-on experience supporting requirements definition, planning, development, testing, and deployment.
Technical understanding of APIs, distributed services, and client-server integration, with the ability to engage engineers on design considerations, implementation trade-offs, and delivery implications.
Experience partnering with product and engineering to clarify ambiguous requirements, break down complex work, and manage changes in scope.
Practical experience with Agile methodologies, including facilitating planning and delivery activities and using tools such as Jira and Confluence.
Strong planning and problem-solving skills, including the ability to assess capacity constraints, anticipate risks, and adjust plans as conditions change.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex issues and present actionable recommendations to different audiences.
Proven ability to build trust, resolve disagreements constructively, and influence partners without direct authority.
Strong ownership and judgment, balancing attention to detail with an understanding of customer and business impact.
Experience working effectively with geographically distributed teams across time zones.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with digital commerce capabilities such as storefronts, product catalogs, checkout, payments, subscriptions, or entitlements.
Experience delivering customer journeys that span client applications and backend services.
Familiarity with the reliability, scalability, security, and privacy considerations of high-volume consumer services.

Perplexity is AI for people who expect more. More accuracy. More agency. More signal, less noise. Our answer engine handles hundreds of millions of queries every month for people whose questions spark change and whose decisions bend the world toward progress.
Our legal team works side by side with product and business teams. We help the company move quickly, make sound risk decisions, and build legal requirements into products and operations from the start.
About the Opportunity
We are looking for a practical, versatile attorney to join our Product, Privacy and Regulatory Legal team. You will have a clear center of gravity in consumer protection and a flexible mandate across product counseling, privacy, regulatory matters, marketing, subscriptions, and international expansion.
This is not a narrow subject matter role. You might advise on a new consumer product flow one day, assess an advertising or subscription practice the next, and help respond to a regulator or customer escalation after that. You will work directly with Product, Engineering, Growth, Marketing, Support, Security, GRC, Policy, and Communications.
The right person can identify the legal issue quickly, learn the product deeply, and give the business a practical path forward. You will own matters independently and help turn recurring questions into clear guidance and durable systems. This role Reports to the Senior Director, Product, Privacy and Regulatory Legal.
What You Will Do
- Serve as a primary legal partner for consumer products and features from early design through launch and post-launch review
- Advise on consumer protection issues, including unfair and deceptive practices, disclosures, pricing, subscriptions, renewals, refunds, promotions, advertising claims, dark patterns, and customer support practices
- Review marketing, growth, and advertising initiatives, including adtech and martech integrations, audience practices, email and messaging campaigns, and product claims
- Counsel product and engineering teams on privacy, data use, consent, retention, security, AI transparency, age-related protections, and other legal requirements
- Lead legal review of cross-functional launches and translate complex requirements into practical product and operational choices
- Support responses to consumer complaints, state attorneys general, competition authorities, privacy authorities, and other regulators around the world, in partnership with the regulatory lead and outside counsel
- Assess incidents and escalations that cross product, privacy, consumer protection, contractual, and regulatory lines
- Monitor legal developments affecting AI products and online services, then convert them into clear advice, playbooks, and product requirements
- Help build scalable legal infrastructure, including templates, review standards, decision records, training, and self-service guidance
- Flex across the broader Product, Privacy and Regulatory Legal portfolio as company priorities and risk change
What We Are Looking For
- J.D. from an accredited law school, or an LL.M. or equivalent law degree, and current authorization to practice law in the U.S. state where you are located
- At least five years of relevant legal experience at a law firm, government agency, or in house, with meaningful consumer protection or product counseling experience
- Strong command of U.S. consumer protection law and enforcement principles, including Section 5 of the FTC Act and state unfair or deceptive acts and practices (UDAP) laws
- Experience with several of the following areas: subscriptions and auto-renewal, advertising and marketing, privacy and data protection, payments, promotions, platform regulation, or AI governance
- Ability to lead a product or regulatory matter independently, from fact development through recommendation and execution
- Excellent judgment. You know what to decide, what to escalate, and how to explain risk without slowing the business unnecessarily
- Clear, direct writing and the ability to translate legal requirements for product, engineering, and business teams
- Comfort learning technical systems and asking precise questions about how products, data flows, and controls actually work
- Hands-on attitude, low ego, intellectual curiosity, and comfort with ambiguity in a fast-moving environment
- Genuine interest in AI products and the legal questions created by how people use them
Bonus
- Experience at the FTC, a state attorney general's office, or another consumer protection or privacy regulator
- In-house experience at a consumer technology company, online platform, marketplace, or subscription business
- Experience handling regulator inquiries, investigations, or consumer class action risk
