Across GTM, we’re transforming the way we work with AI. We expect every seller, CSM, and team member to become a power user, using it daily to work smarter and move faster. AI is already embedded in how we operate – from real-time coaching that sharpens how we sell and interact with customers, to surfacing insights that help us anticipate needs – creating more time for meaningful customer engagement. If you’re excited to reshape how you think, make decisions, and drive growth with AI, you’ll feel right at home here.
Expectations of this role
This is a hybrid role. You will be expected to work from 1Password's Toronto or Austin office 3 days per week, with the flexibility to work from the office up to 5 days based on business needs.
Note: All go-to market roles will have an in-person onboarding in Toronto.
What we're looking for:
- Required: 8+ years of experience in Go To Market (GTM) communications, executive communications, sales or revenue enablement, strategic communications, or a related field.
- Exceptional writing, storytelling, and communication skills, with the ability to translate complex business and product strategies into clear, compelling narratives.
- Experience partnering directly with senior executives on high-impact presentations, talking points, and organization-wide communications.
- Experience leading communications and programming for large-scale GTM forums such as Sales Kickoff, new hire onboarding, leadership meetings, or similar events.
- Strong understanding of Business-to-Business Software as a Service (B2B SaaS) organizations, including how partners, resellers, distributors, and service providers contribute to a go-to-market motion.
- Strong facilitation and presentation skills, including experience preparing and coaching senior presenters.
Bonus points for:
- Experience partnering with Product Management and Product Marketing to translate product strategy and positioning for customer-facing audiences, along with strong editorial judgment and operational rigor.
What you can expect:

- Translate company, product, market, channel, and GTM priorities into relevant communications tailored to different audiences.
- Lead monthly global GTM all-hands, including agenda and narrative development, content curation, presenter preparation, presentation development, and facilitation.
- Own the weekly GTM newsletter and short-form video update, synthesizing inputs, supporting message development, and maintaining a clear communications archive.
- Partner with executive and cross-functional leaders—including Product Management, Product Marketing, Channel, and Workplace Experience—to develop high-impact messaging.
- Lead the GTM communications and role-based breakout experience for Sales Kickoff, including session design, materials, presenter preparation, rehearsals, and speaker coaching.
- Own the GTM curriculum and facilitation for live new hire onboarding, using participant feedback and changing priorities to improve the experience over time.

Embracing the future of AI isn't just encouraged—it's an essential part of how we will be successful at 1Password.
This approach extends to our hiring process—candidates are welcome to use AI tools responsibly and thoughtfully during the application process. We’re scaling fast and staying true to what makes us different: an open-source legacy, a global collaborative culture, and a passion for meaningful work. Our team thrives in an innovation-driven environment where transparency, autonomy, and trust fuel everything we do.
You may not meet every requirement, and that’s okay. If this role excites you, we’d love you to raise your hand for what could be a truly career-defining opportunity.
This is a remote position. We are seeking candidates in US and Canada.
The Opportunity
Application Core Services (AppCore) is a group within Platform, in the Foundations department. We build and operate systems that support Grafana’s business operations and customer experience, working closely with product teams and internal business partners.
The Usage squad works on billing, rates, usage calculations, usage visibility and cloud marketplace integrations. Our software helps customers understand their consumption and costs, and helps internal teams operate accurate, reliable billing processes.
We are looking for a Staff Fullstack Engineer with strong backend experience who enjoys making complex business systems reliable, understandable and easier to operate. You will help deliver new capabilities while improving existing services, reducing repetitive manual work and addressing edge cases that affect customers and internal stakeholders.
This is a hands-on Staff engineering role within the AppCore Usage squad. You will lead complex technical work, contribute directly to implementation and share ownership with the squad’s other Staff and Senior engineers. Your primary focus will be Usage’s systems and outcomes, collaborating with adjacent teams when the work requires it.
Our ownership includes application code, data stores, deployment configuration and the cloud infrastructure supporting our services. You should be comfortable following a problem across those boundaries and making improvements with the appropriate platform teams.
We are remote-first and global. For this role, we prefer candidates in NASA’s Eastern Time zone to provide more overlap with our EMEA colleagues.
What You’ll Be Doing
Your initial focus will be approximately 75% backend and 25% frontend. This balance will evolve with the squad’s priorities. You should be comfortable delivering across the stack, from business logic and APIs through to the interfaces customers and internal teams use.
Design, build and operate backend services and APIs supporting billing, rates, usage calculations, usage visibility and marketplace workflows.
Build and maintain backend services primarily in Go, with Node.js also present in our stack, and contribute to TypeScript/React applications to deliver complete features.
Improve the correctness and reliability of billing and usage workflows, including validation, reconciliation, error handling and recovery.
Identify recurring manual tasks and replace them with maintainable automation, clear operational workflows and appropriate controls.
Maintain and evolve the infrastructure supporting our services, including Kubernetes workloads, scheduled jobs, cloud resources and deployment configuration.
Use infrastructure as code and automated delivery pipelines to make changes repeatable, reviewable and safe across environments.
Investigate production issues across application code, databases and infrastructure, including resource exhaustion, failed jobs, slow queries and replication delays.
Plan and execute service deployments, database changes and infrastructure migrations, including validation, monitoring and recovery plans.
Build and maintain integrations with cloud marketplaces and external business systems where required by the squad’s work.
Deliver projects from understanding requirements and proposing an approach through implementation, testing, rollout and production support.
Make changes traceable and testable, supporting audit requirements and clear explanations of system behaviour.
Collaborate with product management, Support, DealOps, GTM, infrastructure teams and adjacent AppCore squads to clarify requirements and resolve dependencies.
Share technical leadership through design discussions, code reviews, mentoring and practical improvements.
Participate in the squad’s on-call rotation after onboarding. Improve dashboards, alert quality, runbooks and recovery procedures, and follow through on incident findings.
What Makes You a Great Fit
You enjoy engineering work where correctness, reliability and business impact matter. You find value in improving an established system, removing a recurring operational problem or making a billing workflow easier to understand and support.
You take ownership from understanding the problem through delivery and production support. You can turn an ambiguous request into manageable increments, make sound trade-offs and follow through without needing each step prescribed. You ask useful questions, seek feedback and raise uncertainty or blockers early.
You adapt as priorities change, learn unfamiliar systems and technologies, and contribute where the squad needs you. You bring a strong backend specialty while remaining willing and able to work on frontend features and supporting infrastructure.
You reason about how a service behaves in production: how it is deployed, where its data lives, what happens when dependencies fail, and how the team detects and recovers from problems.
You communicate clearly in writing and in conversation. In a distributed team, you make decisions, progress and risks visible so colleagues can contribute across time zones. You work independently while staying connected to the squad.
As a Staff engineer, you bring technical depth and sound judgment while remaining close to implementation. You collaborate constructively with other experienced engineers, welcome different perspectives and help the squad reach decisions and move forward.
We embrace thoughtful use of AI-assisted development. We value engineers who use these tools to support exploration, implementation, testing and documentation while taking responsibility for the quality and correctness of the result.
Requirements
Substantial experience designing, delivering and operating production backend systems, with the depth and judgment to lead complex work hands-on.
Strong experience building and operating production backend systems in Go, our primary backend language.
Professional experience contributing to frontend applications using TypeScript and React, or comparable technologies, and willingness to work across the stack as priorities change.
Experience reasoning about distributed systems, including partial failures, retries, consistency and interactions between services.
Experience with relational databases, including data modelling, schema migrations, query performance and safe production changes.
Practical experience deploying and troubleshooting containerised services and jobs in Kubernetes.
Experience managing cloud infrastructure through code and working with CI/CD pipelines, environment configuration and controlled rollouts.
Ability to investigate production problems using logs, metrics and traces, and turn findings into lasting improvements.
A record of delivering projects end to end, clarifying requirements, making trade-offs and following through after release.
Experience working remotely, with clear asynchronous communication and dependable collaboration across time zones.
Ability to learn unfamiliar domains and technologies, adjust your approach as new information emerges, and take ownership beyond your main area of expertise.
Experience writing readable, well-tested software that other engineers can understand, maintain and operate.
Willingness to participate in on-call and take responsibility for the production behaviour of the systems you build.
Experience supporting colleagues through code reviews, mentoring and constructive technical discussions.
Bonus Points For
Usage metering, billing engines, pricing and rates, financial reconciliation or customer-facing cost management applications.
Reducing operational toil and automating workflows with recurring exceptions or manual interventions.
Systems with auditability, traceability or financial-control requirements.
MySQL operations, replication, database upgrades and performance tuning.
Terraform, Jsonnet and Kubernetes deployment configuration.
Argo Workflows or comparable deployment and job-orchestration tooling.
Cloud infrastructure involving managed databases, object storage, service accounts and access controls, particularly on GCP.
Data synchronisation pipelines and BigQuery integrations.
Cloud marketplace integrations across AWS, Azure or GCP.
Integrations with business platforms such as NetSuite or Salesforce.
Observability tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, Loki or OpenTelemetry.

The role
THE ROLE
We are hiring a
Senior Backend Engineer
for two platform products:
Xsolla ID
is the identity and authentication platform behind sign-in, account management and SSO across Xsolla products.
Xsolla ZK
is Web3 wallet infrastructure: smart wallets and account abstraction on a zkSync-based L2.
Both products sit on users' most sensitive flows, logging in and signing transactions, and other Xsolla teams build on top of them.
WHAT YOU WILL OWN
The backend services of your product area end to end: design, implementation, release and production operation, including on-call
Architecture across services: service boundaries, integration contracts and data ownership. You make these decisions and justify them in writing
Reliability and security of critical flows: SLOs, failure handling, protection of user data and credentials
Service performance and cost under load
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Design and build services and APIs (REST, gRPC) for authentication, account management and wallet operations
Define service boundaries and integration contracts with other Xsolla teams
Design data models and storage; optimize schemas and queries
Build event-driven and asynchronous workflows
Own observability: metrics, logs, tracing and alerting, and act on what production tells you
Take part in on-call, incident response and post-mortems
Improve the engineering environment: CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, testing
Review code
Set up and maintain AI tooling in the repositories (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor: rules, context, harness) so the team uses it effectively
Responsibilities
Language and platform
5+ years of commercial backend development
Go: idiomatic code, concurrency (goroutines, channels, context and cancellation), memory and performance profiling (pprof)
Data
Relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL): schema design, indexes, query plans, transactions and isolation levels, safe migrations
Caching (Redis): when to cache, invalidation, consistency trade-offs
Distributed systems
Service architecture and distributed-systems trade-offs: consistency, availability, idempotency, retries, failure modes
Asynchronous messaging and event-driven design (Kafka, RabbitMQ or NATS): delivery guarantees, ordering, reprocessing
APIs
Designing REST and gRPC APIs: versioning, backward compatibility, contract documentation (OpenAPI / Swagger, Protobuf)
Security and identity
Application security: common vulnerability classes (OWASP Top 10), secrets management, safe handling of user data
OAuth 2.0 / OIDC from the server side: flows, tokens, sessions
Operations
Containers and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes) at the level of deploying and debugging your own services
Observability (we use Datadog; experience with Prometheus, Grafana, ELK / Graylog or OpenTelemetry also counts): metrics, logs, tracing and alerting; diagnosing incidents in production
Engineering practices
Testing: unit, integration, contract
Git, CI/CD (GitLab CI or similar)
AI-assisted engineering

High-load systems
Cloud platforms (GCP, AWS or Azure) and infrastructure-as-code
NoSQL databases (MongoDB or similar)
Domain experience in gaming, e-commerce, fintech or payments
HOW WE WORK
Decisions in writing.
Significant technical decisions are written up as an RFC or ADR that lays out the options and trade-offs. We discuss the document, not a blank whiteboard.
AI is part of everyday engineering.
We use AI coding tools for development and review, and we treat configuring them for a codebase as real engineering work.

Review AI-generated output and credit usage to make fair, consistent calls, such as deciding whether a customer’s AI credit usage matches what they were charged and explaining the outcome clearly
Write clear bug reports and product feedback, such as documenting the steps to reproduce an issue affecting several customers so Engineering can prioritize a fix
Facilitate calls with customers when email isn’t enough, such as screen-sharing with an Org admin to walk them through their team’s setup
