An overview of this role
As a Senior Backend Engineer in GitLab’s Platform Enablement organization, you will help make GitLab easier to deploy, validate, and operate across environments. This team is centered on two major areas: Cloud Native deployment guidance and ephemeral environments.
You’ll help shape GitLab’s next generation of self-managed deployment guidance as Reference Architectures evolve toward a model based on deployment patterns, workload characterization, component requirements, topology guidance, and scaling principles.
You’ll also help improve production-like ephemeral environments so teams can validate changes earlier, test against infrastructure and deployment conditions that more closely reflect real-world operation, and reduce drift between development, CI, and production. This includes shaping the tooling, workflows, and platform contracts that make these environments more consistent, more repeatable, and more useful to engineers building and shipping across GitLab’s different deployment models.
Current projects
Deployment Environments is currently focused on:
Evolving GitLab’s self-managed deployment guidance beyond legacy Reference Architectures into a clear Cloud Native model.
Improving production-like ephemeral environments for earlier, higher-confidence validation.
Supporting a platform model where services declare requirements, operators satisfy them, and shared artifacts work across GitLab.com, Dedicated, and Self-Managed.
What you’ll do
In this role, you’ll:
Build tooling and workflows for cloud-native and self-managed deployment environments.
Contribute to Cloud Native deployment guidance, including component requirements, architecture patterns, topology guidance, and scaling principles.
Improve ephemeral environments that bring validation closer to production reality.
Work across application, infrastructure, and platform boundaries to keep deployment artifacts and environment contracts consistent from development through production.
Partner with related teams on packaging, testing, delivery workflows, and customer-facing deployment guidance.
What you’ll bring
Strong backend engineering experience, ideally with Kubernetes-based systems, distributed applications, or platform engineering
Experience with deployment architecture, environment management, or cloud-native operations
Comfort working at the boundary of developer workflows and production infrastructure
Good systems thinking around service dependencies, deployment patterns, and infrastructure abstraction.
A collaborative, pragmatic approach to building durable platform capabilities
About the team
The Deployment Environments team helps make GitLab easier to deploy and easier to validate across development, CI, GitLab.com, Dedicated, and Self-Managed. Its work spans Cloud Native deployment guidance, ephemeral environments, and the platform contracts that reduce drift across the software lifecycle.

- Collaborate with SEO, content and marketing colleagues to develop campaign assets, improve outreach processes and scale successful approaches across markets.

Role summary
As a Product Security Engineer within the Cybersecurity organization, you will be the dedicated security partner for one or more product organizations (such as Vibe, Studio or Forge).
You will work alongside engineers, researchers and product managers to ensure security is built into every stage of the product lifecycle—from early design and architecture decisions through implementation, production deployment and continuous evolution.
Your mission is to help engineering teams build secure products without slowing them down. Rather than acting as a gatekeeper, you will enable teams to make sound security decisions through secure-by-design principles, pragmatic engineering guidance and scalable security automation.
You will own the Product Security strategy for your product portfolio, influence engineering decisions, and help define how secure software is built across one of the world's leading AI companies.
What you will do
- Serve as the dedicated Product Security partner for one or more product organizations.
- Drive security throughout the entire product lifecycle, from design and architecture reviews to production deployment and ongoing operation.
- Lead threat modeling, security architecture reviews and risk assessments for new features, APIs and major architectural changes.
- Define pragmatic security requirements and secure-by-default patterns that enable engineering teams to ship safely at high velocity for a specific product.
- Review critical designs and code, focusing on authentication, authorization, tenant isolation, data protection, cryptography and other high-impact security controls.
- Design product-specific security validation strategies, including targeted testing, abuse-case development and guided agent-based security assessments tailored to each product's architecture and workflows.
- Partner with engineering teams to prioritize and remediate vulnerabilities identified through code reviews, penetration testing, bug bounty programs and automated security testing.
- Collaborate with Security Engineering to improve reusable security platforms, developer guardrails and security capabilities integrated into the SDLC.
- Champion secure software engineering through coaching, technical leadership, reusable design patterns and Security Champion programs.
- Define Product Security metrics, continuously improve the security posture of your products and help shape Product Security practices across the company.
What we're looking for:
- 5+ years of experience in Product Security, Application Security or Software Engineering with a strong security focus.
- Strong understanding of modern software architecture, distributed systems, APIs and cloud-native applications.
- Demonstrated experience performing threat modeling, architecture reviews and secure design assessments.
- Deep understanding of modern software security, including authentication, authorization, cryptography, secrets management, tenant isolation, secure data flows and common vulnerability classes (OWASP Top 10, CWE).
- Strong software engineering skills in Python, Go, TypeScript or similar languages, with the ability to review production code and build security automation.
- Experience with application security testing techniques, including manual code review, penetration testing, bug bounty programs.
- Experience designing product-specific security testing approaches, including security automation or agent-based testing, is highly valued.
- Strong understanding of Secure SDLC principles from product design through production deployment and long-term maintenance.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to earn trust across engineering organizations and balance security, product delivery and developer experience.
- A pragmatic, engineering-first mindset with strong technical judgment and a focus on solving meaningful security problems.

We offer a comprehensive benefits package designed to support your well-being, growth, and work-life balance. About the job
As part of the Technology Distribution team of Tether Data, we are seeking an Engagement Manager to lead the implementation of AI-driven initiatives powered by QVAC, Tether’s SDK for local AI and delegated inference. The role focuses on orchestrating complex, multi-stakeholder deployments of decentralized AI solutions across enterprise, government, and institutional environments.
This position combines client engagement, technical coordination, and delivery oversight to ensure successful onboarding and execution of AI use cases, ranging from edge AI deployments to privacy-preserving inference systems. The Engagement Manager plays a central role in aligning client objectives with product capabilities, coordinating internal and external stakeholders, and driving implementations from initial scoping through production rollout.
Responsibilities
Client & Partner Engagement
Act as the primary point of contact for clients and partners during AI implementation initiatives, ensuring clear communication, expectation alignment, and structured execution.
Guide clients in translating business requirements into AI deployment strategies leveraging QVAC capabilities (local inference, delegated compute, privacy-preserving architectures).
Support Expansion team in shaping AI-related opportunities by providing input on feasibility, integration complexity, and delivery approach.
Identify opportunities to extend implementations across additional use cases, geographies, or Tether technologies.
Implementations Oversight
Lead end-to-end coordination of QVAC-based implementations from kickoff through production deployment.
Define implementation roadmaps, milestones, and dependencies across AI models, infrastructure, and integration layers.
Ensure alignment between client expectations and actual product capabilities, avoiding scope drift or mispositioning.
Track progress across multiple concurrent AI deployments, ensuring timely delivery and readiness for production environments.
Cross-functional Coordination
Coordinate closely with product, engineering, and research teams to align on QVAC capabilities, limitations, and roadmap evolution.
Facilitate integration between client systems and QVAC components, including model deployment pipelines, APIs, and compute environments.
Work with legal and compliance teams where required, particularly in sensitive AI deployments involving data locality or privacy constraints.
Maintain structured communication flows across all stakeholders involved in the implementation lifecycle.
Governance & Reporting
Establish and maintain governance frameworks including implementation plans, risk tracking, and decision logs.
Produce executive-level updates summarizing progress, risks, blockers, and next steps.
Ensure documentation of implementation architectures, deployment patterns, and key learnings for reuse across future projects.
Support escalation management and ensure timely resolution of technical or operational challenges.
Core Experience
5+ years of experience in program management, technical account management, or delivery roles within AI, data infrastructure, or complex technology environments.
Proven experience managing cross-functional implementations involving multiple stakeholders (internal teams, clients, external partners).
Strong ability to operate at the intersection of technical and business domains.
Technical Understanding
Familiarity with AI/ML deployment concepts, including model inference, edge/local AI, and distributed compute architectures.
Understanding of APIs, SDK integrations, and system architecture patterns.
Ability to engage in technical discussions with engineering teams while maintaining business-level clarity with clients.
Communication & Execution
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, including experience working with enterprise or government entities.
Structured approach to project tracking, documentation, and governance.
Ability to manage ambiguity and operate in fast-evolving, early-stage environments.
