Location: United States
What the Role Is
Babylist is creating a new
VP of Merchandise Planning, Allocation, and Inventory Management
to own how the company plans, buys, and allocates inventory as it scales beyond $1B in merchandise revenue. This is a net-new leadership role, reporting to the CFO/COO and sitting alongside senior functional leaders across Merchandising, Supply Chain, and Data/Finance. The VP will own the strategic vision, operating standards, and systems roadmap for Planning. The mandate: give Babylist's planning function a clear point of view, faster decisions, and enough operational rigor to deliver a great customer experience and financial results through inventory. This role is remote and open anywhere in the US, with a preference for West Coast candidates.
Who You Are
Proven executive leadership of a merchandise planning, inventory management, and allocation function at a wholesale retail business across hundreds of vendors, ideally $500M to $2B+, through double-digit growth
A strong people manager with a track record of building a high-performance team culture: setting clear expectations, coaching direct reports toward promotion-ready capability, and building bench strength as the team scales.
A track record of setting strategic vision and operating standards for a planning organization: defining what "great" looks like, not just executing against someone else's model.
Demonstrated speed and conviction in high-stakes decisions (org design, staffing, systems investments) and the discipline to hold those decisions through execution
Experience building the planning point of view behind allocation as we expand the distribution network, the inventory deployment and drop-ship strategy that comes with adding fulfillment nodes.
Direct experience owning a demand planning or allocation platform implementation (e.g., Intuendi, Blue Yonder, o9, ToolsGroup, Impact Analytics) through to full adoption, closing the gap between "live" and "trusted and used."
A history of designing and scaling planning organizations, roles, levels, and career paths, for a rapidly growing and evolving business.
Comfort operating as an equal, vocal strategic partner to Merchandising, Supply Chain, and Data/Finance leaders.
Fluency in inventory KPIs (in-stock rate, weeks of supply, weeks on hand, aged inventory, working capital efficiency) and experience owning to in-stock or inventory incidents.
Experience owning operations that sit between planning and supply chain, vendor onboarding, vendor performance analytics, or drop-ship EDI a plus
You naturally reach for AI in your work. At Babylist, every team uses AI daily. You're already using it to move faster and improve your output, and you stay curious about what's coming next.
How You Will Make An Impact
Define and develop the team to MerchandisePlanning's north star: the standards, operating cadence (OTB, team ceremonies), and expectations for every level of the function of a high-performance team
Take the forecasting/allocation platform from "migrated" to "trusted."
Finalize and execute a scalable org design for Planning, Inventory Management, and Allocation built for a $1B+ business. Fill open roles, set reporting lines, and communicate changes with enough lead time for the team to plan around them.
Build and drive the planning point of view behind the warehouse network expansion and inventory deployment across the network.
Own the inventory strategy: when to drop-ship vs. own, when to invest more vs pull back, when to pull back vs add more SKUs based on cannibalization or customer need with Merch partners. Set the criteria, make the call, and work through your team to execute on that strategy.
Own inventory health end to end: in-stock rate, weeks of supply, aged, and working capital efficiency, including leading the org's response when network in-stock performance slips.
Lead leaders: develop the team below you into stronger, more autonomous operators.
Establish Planning as an equal, vocal partner to Merchandising, Supply Chain, and Data & Finance in MBRs, S&OP, OTB, and other cross-functional forums, showing up with a point of view, not just support.
Why This Role
You'll sit at the same table as Merchandising, Supply Chain, and Data & Finance leadership, directly shaping how Babylist buys, allocates, and delivers inventory to families.
You're inheriting real momentum, not a blank slate: a forecasting platform already live, a team that's proven it can adapt, and real opportunity to build out the team as the business scales
Direct visibility with the CFO/COO on working capital and inventory strategy, including board-level conversations on inventory efficiency.

ABOUT ENEBA
At Eneba, we’re building an open, safe and sustainable marketplace for the gamers of today and tomorrow. Our marketplace supports close to 20m+ active users (and growing fast!), provides a level of trust, safety and market accessibility unparalleled to none. We’re proud of what we’ve accomplished in such a short time and look forward to sharing this journey with you. Join us as we continue to scale, diversify our portfolio, and grow with the evolving community of gamers.
ABOUT THE TEAM
We’re the Eneba Engineering team. We bring together product-minded engineers, tech leads, and managers who are passionate about building and maintaining a stable, scalable marketplace for gamers. Our mission is to keep Eneba running smoothly while enabling steady, iterative growth. We focus on reliability, clear ownership, and pragmatic engineering that serves real business needs.
We're looking for a Head of Engineering to own Eneba's engineering organization day to day. You'll drive technical decisions, people structure, process evolution, and AI adoption across an org of 70+ engineers spanning Software Engineering, Mobile, Security, and IT Admin. You'll report directly to our VP of Technology and work in close partnership with our Director of Product.
What you'll own in year one
- Own the overall stability, reliability, and efficiency of Eneba’s core technology, ensuring the platform runs smoothly while continuing to evolve iteratively over time.
- Lead, mentor, and support a lean core of engineering managers and tech leads fostering a culture of accountability, knowledge sharing, and strong technical ownership.
- Maintain and continuously improve engineering practices, processes, and documentation so that teams can onboard quickly, rotate between projects, and keep the “machine” well oiled despite ongoing growth.
- Collaborate closely with product, data, and other stakeholders to translate business needs into clear technical priorities that optimize for long-term maintainability over constant reinvention.
- Anticipate scaling and stability risks (e.g., headcount changes, new projects, or shifts in focus) and proactively prepare the platform, architecture, and teams to handle them with minimal disruption.
- Ensure a high bar for code quality, security, and operational excellence, while keeping the organization lean and efficient rather than growing the team unnecessarily.
- Create an environment where Eneba can safely experiment with new practices and technologies that improve efficiency or enable future projects when needed, without compromising the stability of the existing platform.
- AI adoption: setting the culture, tooling, and behavior modeling for AI/LLM usage across the engineering organisation
Requirements
- 8+ years of engineering experience, with 2+ years as a Head of Engineering, VP Engineering, or equivalent senior engineering leadership role
- Proven experience leading engineering organisations of 40+ engineers in product-focused tech companies, operating as a manager of managers with tech leads and engineering managers reporting into you across multiple disciplines (backend, frontend, mobile)
- Strong hands-on software engineering background earlier in your career, with the ability to make architecture and system design decisions across the stack and earn the trust of senior engineers independently
- Track record of scaling engineering teams in startup or high-growth environments, with a demonstrated ability to move fast, make decisions without heavy approval chains, and operate in ambiguity
- Experience working in consumer-facing product companies (marketplace, e-commerce, gaming, consumer fintech, or similar)
- Genuine enthusiasm for people leadership at scale — you've built and coached engineering managers and tech leads over multiple years, developed talent, and handled underperformance, restructures, and difficult conversations directly
- Active user of AI/LLM tools in your own work, with demonstrated experience driving adoption within your engineering team — including a clear point of view on trade-offs around cost, quality, and use cases
- Demonstrated ability to run stable, scalable platforms with a focus on reliability, predictability, and incremental improvement over time
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with proven experience partnering closely with product leadership and representing engineering in executive-level and cross-functional discussions
- Comfortable operating without rigid long-term roadmaps; able to bring judgment, structure, and continuity while preparing the organisation for likely challenges
- Experience working in multi-product or multi-project organisations is a strong plus
- Based in Lithuania or willing to travel regularly to our Kaunas headquarters, particularly in the first three months
- Fluent English (business proficiency required)
What it’s like to work at Eneba
- Opportunity to join our Employee Stock Options program.
- Opportunity to help scale a unique product.
- Various bonus systems: performance-based, referral, additional paid leave, personal learning budget.
- Paid volunteering opportunities.
- Work location of your choice: office, remote, opportunity to work and travel.
- Personal and professional growth at an exponential rate supported by well-defined feedback and promotion processes.

Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems to the global enterprise and technology markets. Our platform, Ubuntu, is very widely used in breakthrough enterprise initiatives such as public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation and IoT. Our customers include the world's leading public cloud and silicon providers, and industry leaders in many sectors. The company is a pioneer of global distributed collaboration, with 1200+ colleagues in 75+ countries and very few office based roles. Teams meet two to four times yearly in person, in interesting locations around the world, to align on strategy and execution.
The company is founder led, profitable and growing.
Canonical builds the open-source software that runs the world’s clouds, devices and AI, and we hold our managers to a high standard. Our Talent Development team exists to make leaders and managers at Canonical genuinely excellent. We define what great management looks like here, and we bring managers and leaders up to that standard through direct, hands-on work, both from the centre and embedded inside engineering and commercial organisations.
As a Senior Organisational Development Practitioner you are the person who sets the bar for how coaching and organisational development is practised here. You coach leaders to a clear standard of management excellence. You diagnose how a whole organisation is led and drive the plan to raise it. You develop the practitioners working in the field. It is one of the most senior and demanding Talent roles at Canonical: hands-on coaching and organisational-development craft with real leaders, in a company that expects you to be credible in a room of directors and to earn that credibility fast.
You work both from the central team and embedded inside a leader's organisation for periods, turning what you learn in the field back into how we develop leaders and managers across Canonical.
Location: These are remote based positions, available across EMEA and the Americas.
What you deliver
Raising individual leaders
Coaching leaders to visibly raise their game against a clear standard of management excellence.
Landing the hard conversations, because you coach leaders to make them happen.
Turning 360 feedback into real, followed-through commitments, not a report that gets filed.
Lifting organisations and the company
Leaving an organisation you take on visibly better led, off a sharp first-weeks diagnosis and a plan you own and drive.
Contributing to defining and implementing new ways of working across our globally distributed company.
Building the function and its standards
Developing the practitioners in the field so they get visibly better at their craft under your supervision.
Setting the bar for how coaching and organisational development is done at Canonical: owning what exceptional looks like, proving the methods in the field, and holding the practice to them.
Sharpening the management-excellence standard itself across Canonical, by feeding back what you learn in the field.
What we are looking for in you
Deep, hands-on coaching and organisational-development practice with real leaders and teams, not just programme design.
A track record of measurably changing how leaders behave, with specific examples you can talk through.
Credibility: you can walk into a room of directors and be taken seriously.
Effectiveness operating inside someone else's organisation without formal authority.
A clear and honest philosophy of development: you know where coaching helps, and you are candid about where a role or fit decision is the right call.
An exceptional academic track record from high school and university.
Excellent written and spoken English.
Sincere personal motivation aligned with our mission.
Willingness to travel up to 4 times a year for internal events.
In addition we expect that you will match our values, by being:
Precise, taking care to deliver correctness and clarity.
Reliable, delivering high quality work that builds trust and confidence.
Accessible, collaborating to build products and systems that are usable.
Adroit, blending enthusiasm, knowledge, adaptability, style and character.
Nice-to-have skills
A management-consulting background: comfortable with ambiguity, able to diagnose, propose and move.
Experience coaching across a distributed, fast-moving, technical organisation.
Experience building competency or development frameworks.
Experience designing and running effective workshops or training sessions, in person and online.
Learning-design judgment for development materials. We want the design sense; AI handles the production drafting.
Talent-development experience, valued alongside but secondary to coaching and consulting craft.
What we offer colleagues
We consider geographical location, experience, and performance in shaping compensation worldwide. We revisit compensation annually (and more often for graduates and associates) to ensure we recognise outstanding performance. In addition to base pay, we offer a performance-driven annual bonus. We provide all team members with additional benefits, which reflect our values and ideals. We balance our programs to meet local needs and ensure fairness globally.
Distributed work environment with twice-yearly team sprints in person
Personal learning and development budget of USD 2,000 per year
Annual compensation review
Recognition rewards
Annual holiday leave
Maternity and paternity leave
Employee Assistance Programme
Opportunity to travel to new locations to meet colleagues
Priority Pass, and travel upgrades for long haul company events
