Millwork Design & Production Manager
Location: Long Island City, NY
Compensation: Competitive, commensurate with experience
Employment Type: Full-Time, On-Site
About the Role
Our client is a distinguished luxury residential millwork division with a reputation built on unparalleled craftsmanship, advanced fabrication capabilities, and the delivery of truly custom solutions for high-end homes. Operating out of Long Island City, they combine sophisticated design with hands-on production — CNC fabrication, fine woodworking, metalwork, and specialty concrete — all under one roof.
They are seeking a Millwork Design & Production Manager: a versatile, technically deep professional who can bridge the gap between design intent and shop floor execution. This is a role for someone who is equally at home generating precise shop drawings and standing next to a CNC machine, and who has the leadership presence to develop a skilled fabrication team. It comes with a genuine growth path for the right person — this division is building toward expanded operations and wants someone who can grow into a senior leadership role as the business scales.
What
We’re Looking For
This role demands a rare combination: design sophistication, fabrication fluency, and operational leadership. The ideal candidate has done all three — not just one.
Technically expert in digital modeling and shop drawing production for complex luxury millwork
Hands-on CNC experience — knows how to run the machine, not just spec it
Comfortable managing a fabrication team and holding them to luxury-grade standards
A design thinker who understands material science and pushes what’s possible
Client-facing capable — able to communicate professionally about project details, specs, and logistics
Core Responsibilities
Design & Drafting
Lead the drafting process for custom luxury residential millwork projects, from concept through construction-ready shop drawings
Develop and refine digital models for structural details in coordination with architectural and engineering specifications
Generate precise shop drawings for the fabrication team, maintaining exacting standards of accuracy and detail
Contribute to project narrative and concept development, translating client vision into buildable design
Fabrication & Production
Operate and manage advanced CNC machinery including 3-axis CNC milling and laser cutting for custom component production
Coordinate fabrication workflows across design, engineering, and production to meet luxury quality and schedule standards
Provide hands-on expertise in fine woodworking, metalwork, and specialty concrete fabrication techniques
Supervise and support the fabrication team through assembly, ensuring meticulous attention to detail at every stage
Operations & Project Coordination
Manage project schedules, material procurement, and resource allocation within the millwork shop
Maintain client communication on project details, specifications, and logistics with professional, high-touch service
Uphold rigorous quality control standards across all production activities
Drive continuous improvement in fabrication methods, material applications, and shop processes
Leadership & Team Development
Mentor and develop fabrication team members, elevating their skills in high-end craftsmanship
Model the standards of quality, precision, and professionalism the brand is built on
Actively contribute to the growth and operational development of the division over time
Qualifications
Proven experience in a professional design and fabrication environment, specifically within luxury residential millwork or high-end custom fabrication — required
Demonstrated expertise in digital modeling for structural details and generating comprehensive shop drawings for complex projects
Hands-on CNC machinery experience, including operation and working knowledge of maintenance
Multi-material fabrication experience: fine woods, metals, and specialty concrete applications
Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills with the ability to manage demanding timelines and client expectations
A genuine passion for material science, fabrication innovation, and the application of advanced techniques to luxury environments
Degree in Architecture, Industrial Design, Construction Management, Engineering, Fine Arts (3D/fabrication focus), or a related field — or equivalent demonstrated expertise
Technical Proficiencies
CAD/CAM: Rhino + Grasshopper, RhinoCam, Revit, Polycam
Design/Graphics: Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)
Office: Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
The Opportunity
This is an exceptional opportunity for a design-fabrication hybrid professional to take ownership of a high-performing luxury millwork operation and build something meaningful within it. Our client offers competitive compensation commensurate with experience, a hands-on and craft focused environment, and real long-term growth potential for the right person. If you are technically exceptional, leadership-capable, and driven by the pursuit of quality without compromise, we want to hear from you.

Agent Loop and Execution.
Own the core agent runtime: tool orchestration, parallel execution, sub-agent delegation, sandbox code execution, and failure recovery. You will define how North agents plan and act across long, multi-step workflows and ensure the execution environment is robust enough for the most demanding enterprise tasks. You are expected to engage at the implementation level, contributing to architecture decisions alongside engineering rather than simply handing off requirements.
Context Engineering.
Own how our Agents manage the context window as a deliberately controlled resource. This includes progressive disclosure of tools and skills, context compaction and summarization, offloading of large payloads to a persistent filesystem, and the instrumentation that keeps agents oriented across extended trajectories.
Model-Scaffolding Co-evolution.
Own the feedback loop between North's harness and the Modeling Team. This PM is the connective tissue that makes that possible: ensuring harness design decisions are validated by Modeling before they are built, that evals are the shared bridge between both teams, and that as the harness evolves the model evolves with it.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Define and own the roadmap for North's agent harness, including the agent loop, context engineering layer, tool orchestration, sandbox execution, and sub-agent delegation
- Serve as the primary interface between North engineering and Cohere's Modeling team, ensuring new harness capabilities are validated before being built and that neither team paints itself into a corner
- Own North's agentic evaluation framework, ensuring evals are compatible with both the North harness and Modeling's training infrastructure, and that they serve as a reliable bridge between product and research
- Engage enterprise customers to surface real-world agentic failures and translate findings into concrete product and model requirements
- Partner with the agentic expert modeling team to define goals that maximize the impact of our models and prioritize model capabilities and evals most critical for delivering on those goals. Establish a clear roadmap for our agentic modeling capabilities.
- Stay current with the open-source and commercial agent ecosystem and drive adoption decisions that keep North's architecture aligned with emerging standards.
REQUIREMENTS
- 5+ years of product management experience as a research PM, in agentic AI systems,, or applied ML products
- Deep understanding of agentic harnesses, including the latest paid and open source offerings.
- Deep understanding of modern LLM agent architectures, including multi-agent systems, tool-augmented reasoning, memory and retrieval, programmatic orchestration, RAG, and long-horizon execution
- Strong grasp of agentic evaluation design, including how to measure task completion, failure recovery, and long-horizon reliability, and how to diagnose model vs. scaffolding gaps
- Technically deep enough to contribute to architecture decisions at the implementation level: comfortable reviewing and shaping design docs, reasoning about async execution patterns, sandboxed environments, filesystem design, and the tradeoffs that come with building harness capabilities into a production platform
- Ability to flex between ML research conversations and engineering architecture discussions with equal fluency
- Track record of shipping platform-layer products with demonstrated impact on reliability, performance, or capability.
NICE-TO-HAVES
- Direct experience in developing and shipping leading agentic harnesses.
- An active practitioner of agent frameworks who regularly builds with and follows the latest developments in open-source harnesses, coding agents, and orchestration tools in both professional and personal work
- Hands-on experience with enterprise agentic deployments: multi-tenant orchestration, tool permissioning, audit trails, and compliance requirements
- Familiarity with infrastructure constraints relevant to enterprise deployments: on-premises environments, scalability challenges, and the operational tradeoffs of running complex agent workloads in restricted or air-gapped settings
- Prior work at the intersection of research and product, translating nascent model capabilities into shipped product features
- Background working within or closely alongside an ML research or post-training team.
WHY JOIN COHERE?
- Impact: Shape how Canada's most important public institutions adopt and deploy frontier AI.
- Innovation: Work alongside leading researchers and engineers solving complex ML challenges.
