Backblaze is the object storage leader in the open cloud movement, fueling customer success with cloud storage built purposefully to unlock budgets, unburden administrators, and unleash innovators. Together with our partners, we’re helping customers break free from the restrictive, overpriced legacy solutions that hold them back, and blaze forward with the full power of the open cloud in their hands.
Founded in 2007, we scaled the business with less than $3 million in outside funding until 2021, when we did a traditional IPO on the Nasdaq stock exchange. Today, Backblaze generates over $100m in revenue and is the leading specialized storage cloud - managing over three billion gigabytes of data storage for 500K+ customers in 175+ countries, including businesses, developers, IT professionals, and individuals.
But while there is a lot to celebrate in our past, there is almost as much opportunity ahead of us. We are seeking an
AI Workflow Engineer
!
About the Role:
Backblaze is running a company-wide AI transformation program, and this role is where strategy becomes something you can actually use. As AI Workflow Engineer, you will be the hands-on builder inside the AI Program Office - embedded alongside the Director, AI Enablement, and deployed into non-GTM, non-Engineering business teams to prototype, build, and ship AI-powered workflow solutions that make a measurable difference in how work gets done.
This is not a research role or a strategy role. You will spend your time building: prompt architectures, automation flows, lightweight agents, API integrations, and demos that help a business team see - concretely - what AI can do for them. You will move across functions, which means you need to understand how businesses actually operate. The ideal background is someone who started in a business-facing role - finance, operations, marketing, customer success, HR - and developed serious hands-on AI and automation skills on top of that foundation.
You will work closely with the Director, AI Enablement, who owns the program management and delivery layer. Your job is to make their scoped solutions real - fast, iteratively, and with enough rigor that what you build can go to production.
What You Will Do:
Build and Ship AI Workflow Solutions
Take scoped use cases from the Director, AI Enablement and build working solutions: prompt layers, automation flows, lightweight agents, RAG implementations, and API integrations that connect AI tools to the systems business teams already use
Build working prototypes quickly - the goal is to show a team what is possible in days, not weeks, then refine based on what actually lands
Translate a documented workflow assessment into a technical design, select the right tools for the job, and own the build through to a deployable solution
Maintain solution documentation that is clear enough for handoff, iteration, and audit - not just for engineers, but for the business owner who will live with it
Embed in Business Teams
Spend time inside the functions you are building for - Finance, HR, Legal, Marketing Ops, Customer Success, and others - understanding how the work actually flows before you redesign it
Run working sessions with team members to map current-state workflows, surface friction points, and identify where AI creates real leverage versus where it creates noise
Build credibility with non-technical stakeholders by showing them working solutions, not decks - and by being honest about what will and will not work
Support user acceptance testing and early adoption, troubleshooting issues close to launch and iterating based on real usage
Support the AI Program Office
Build demos and proof-of-concepts that help the Director, AI Enablement make the case for a use case - or disqualify it early before resources are committed
Contribute to vendor and tool evaluations with a builder's perspective: not just whether a tool claims to do something, but whether it actually works in the context of a specific workflow
Feed learnings from the build process back into the program - what worked, what did not, what should be standardized across functions
Work on tactical quick wins and longer-horizon strategic builds at the same time, switching contexts across active use cases as priorities shift
What Success Looks Like (First 90 Days)
You have completed at least one workflow assessment alongside the Director and produced a working prototype from it
At least one solution you built is in active use by a business team, with a named owner and feedback loop in place
You have worked inside at least two different business functions and understand their core workflows well enough to identify the next use case without being told
The Director, AI Enablement trusts you to own the build layer independently - scoping conversations happen together, execution happens with you driving
The Right Fit:
2-4 years of experience that includes meaningful time working inside a business-facing function - operations, finance, marketing, customer success, HR, or similar - not just in Engineering or IT
Hands-on experience building with AI tools: prompt engineering, automation platforms (Make, Zapier, n8n, or equivalent), API integrations, and at least working familiarity with RAG architectures and agent frameworks
Proven ability to take a messy real-world process, understand it from the inside, and build something that makes it faster or better - not just technically cleaner
Comfortable working with non-technical stakeholders: you can explain what you are building without jargon, gather requirements without a formal spec, and manage expectations when a prototype needs three more iterations
Strong enough with code or no-code tools to get solutions to a deployable state independently - you do not need an engineer to ship your work
Able to manage multiple active projects at different stages without dropping anything - a quick win in HR this week does not mean the Finance automation waits
Genuinely curious about how companies work: the org chart, the incentives, the handoffs, the bottlenecks. This is what separates a good AI builder from a great one in a business context
Bonus Points For:
Direct experience working in or closely with G&A, Finance, Legal, Marketing Ops, or Customer Success teams - you have lived in the workflows you will be redesigning
Familiarity with AI governance basics: data handling, PII awareness, and when a use case needs a security or privacy review before it ships
Experience working in a small program or startup environment where you wore multiple hats and shipped without a lot of process overhead
Experience in cloud infrastructure, SaaS, or storage companies - comfort with technical products and the teams that build them
A portfolio, GitHub, or examples of AI workflows or automations you have built - something you can show, not just describe
At Backblaze, we value being fair and good to our customers, partners, and employees. That’s why diversity, equity, and inclusion are at the core of our values. We are committed to fostering a workforce where all employees feel a sense of belonging regardless of race, ethnicity, nationality, gender, sexual orientation, age, religion, socio-economic status, ability, veteran status, and education. Are highly effective across org boundaries—you build trust with GTM, Platform, Inference, Infrastructure, Privacy, Safeguards, and business stakeholders alike
Strong candidates may also have
Experience with multi-cloud or distributable deployments of complex systems
Experience building the data foundations for enterprise administration—entitlements, metering, usage and cost visibility
The annual compensation range for this role is listed below.
For sales roles, the range provided is the role’s On Target Earnings ("OTE") range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role.
Annual Salary:
$405,000
—
$485,000 USD
Logistics
Minimum education:
Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience
Required field of study:
A field relevant to the role as demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience
Minimum years of experience:
Years of experience required will correlate with the internal job level requirements for the position
Location-based hybrid policy:
Currently, we expect all staff to be in one of our offices at least 25% of the time. However, some roles may require more time in our offices.
Visa sponsorship:
We do sponsor visas! However, we aren't able to successfully sponsor visas for every role and every candidate. But if we make you an offer, we will make every reasonable effort to get you a visa, and we retain an immigration lawyer to help with this.
We encourage you to apply even if you do not believe you meet every single qualification.
Not all strong candidates will meet every single qualification as listed. Research shows that people who identify as being from underrepresented groups are more prone to experiencing imposter syndrome and doubting the strength of their candidacy, so we urge you not to exclude yourself prematurely and to submit an application if you're interested in this work. We think AI systems like the ones we're building have enormous social and ethical implications. We think this makes representation even more important, and we strive to include a range of diverse perspectives on our team.
Your safety matters to us.
To protect yourself from potential scams, remember that Anthropic recruiters only contact you from @anthropic.com email addresses. In some cases, we may partner with vetted recruiting agencies who will identify themselves as working on behalf of Anthropic. Be cautious of emails from other domains. Legitimate Anthropic recruiters will never ask for money, fees, or banking information before your first day. If you're ever unsure about a communication, don't click any links—visit

directly for confirmed position openings.
How we're different
We believe that the highest-impact AI research will be big science. At Anthropic we work as a single cohesive team on just a few large-scale research efforts. And we value impact — advancing our long-term goals of steerable, trustworthy AI — rather than work on smaller and more specific puzzles. We view AI research as an empirical science, which has as much in common with physics and biology as with traditional efforts in computer science. We're an extremely collaborative group, and we host frequent research discussions to ensure that we are pursuing the highest-impact work at any given time. As such, we greatly value communication skills.
The easiest way to understand our research directions is to read our recent research. This research continues many of the directions our team worked on prior to Anthropic, including: GPT-3, Circuit-Based Interpretability, Multimodal Neurons, Scaling Laws, AI & Compute, Concrete Problems in AI Safety, and Learning from Human Preferences.
Come work with us!
Anthropic is a public benefit corporation headquartered in San Francisco. We offer competitive compensation and benefits, optional equity donation matching, generous vacation and parental leave, flexible working hours, and a lovely office space in which to collaborate with colleagues.

ABOUT SOMNIA
The Somnia Foundation, backed by Improbable, specialises in building and operating high-performance decentralised technology. Its EVM L1, launched in 2025, has been benchmarked as the fastest on the planet: at over 1 million ERC-20 transactions per second.
At Somnia you'll be working alongside a talented team working across the core blockchain along with novel protocols leveraging its capabilities:
- Somnia Agents adding the ability for smart contracts to leverage the latest open-source LLMs and interact with the outside world via headless browsers, powered by on-chain deterministic LLM inference and a decentralised network of agent runners
- Prophecy an information oracle that can combine parsing of public websites and public data sources into decentralised, auditable attestations about the real world, powering prediction markets, forecasting and new types of financial systems
- DreamDEX a high-performance DEX with a fully on-chain CLOB leveraging on Somnia's core capabilities, targeting centralised exchange characteristics
- Somnia L1 continued work on the high-performance EVM L1, including working on MEV resistance, privacy, automatic gas sponsorship and 'reactivity' where smart contracts can autonomously invoke themselves based on specific timing or event criteria
ABOUT THE ROLE
We're looking for a Senior Infrastructure Engineer to build and run Somnia's key backend services: the L1 and node fleet, RPC and indexing layers, product backends, and developer-facing services teams depend on. An SRE-minded role: you make reliability measurable, rollouts safe, and infrastructure repeatable, so every team can move fast without breaking things.
You treat infrastructure as a product: automate relentlessly, measure everything, and leverage AI to accelerate development, operations, and incident response.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Define and maintain SLOs, SLIs, and error budgets, plus the observability—metrics, logs, traces and alerts—that catches regressions before users do.
- Build repeatable, self-service infrastructure through infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD and golden paths so teams can provision, deploy and recover without reinventing the wheel.
- Own rollouts end-to-end—progressive delivery, canaries, safe migrations and clean rollbacks.
- Operate the systems behind Somnia's nodes, validators, RPC and indexing, tuning for performance and cost across regions.
- Lead incident response and on-call, run blameless postmortems, and continuously harden the platform.
- Partner with product and protocol teams to design and operate production-ready services. You'll rotate between embedding with engineering teams and building the shared platform, tooling and operational standards that underpin the wider organisation.
REQUIREMENTS
MUST HAVE
- Strong experience operating production infrastructure at scale (cloud and/or bare metal), with deep Linux fundamentals.
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code such as Terraform or Pulumi, alongside configuration management.
- Experience running containers and orchestration platforms (Docker, Kubernetes) in production.
- Strong programming skills, ideally in Go and/or TypeScript, for building automation and internal tooling.
- Experience with observability stacks (Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry or equivalents).
- Experience operating and monitoring distributed systems, including capacity planning and performance tuning.
- Comfortable operating in high-stakes production environments and responding to incidents.
- Genuine interest in crypto and on-chain systems.
NICE TO HAVE
- Experience operating blockchain node infrastructure (validators, RPC, archive nodes) for an L1/L2.
- Experience with high-performance networking, low-latency systems or load balancing at scale.
- Multi-region and geo-distributed deployments with failover strategies.
- Security and key management (HSMs, secrets management, hardening).
- EVM tooling and the wider Web3 infrastructure ecosystem.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
- Engineers can deploy safely and frequently with confidence.
- Platform reliability is measurable, with well-defined SLOs and continuously improving service health.
- Infrastructure is automated, repeatable and increasingly self-service.
- Incidents become less frequent, easier to diagnose and faster to resolve.
- Product teams spend more time shipping features and less time managing infrastructure.
HOW WE WORK
- Agent maximalists: We are strong believers in agentic tooling being a massive accelerant to velocity beyond vibe coding prototypes: from equipping engineers with the latest tools through to agentic harnesses for security testing and end-to-end shipping fixes and small features.
- Ownership and autonomy: A lean team that optimises for individual impact and velocity. Engineers own features end-to-end, from idea to production, and are trusted to make the call to ship.
- Outcome-oriented: We take on hard technical problems, but the tech is always a means to an end. What matters is what ships and the impact it has, not cleverness for its own sake.
- Best tool for the job: We solve interesting problems in the simplest way possible. Mostly TypeScript for full-stack apps, C++ for high-performance systems, Go for infrastructure services and Solidity for smart contracts.
