ABOUT AVOCA
Avoca is transforming how home service companies engage with their customers. Our AI-powered conversational agents handle every high-value inbound call, from booking jobs, qualifying leads, and driving higher revenue, all at a speed and consistency unmatched by human call centers.
We're a Series B startup backed by Kleiner Perkins, Meritech Capital, General Catalyst, and other top-tier investors, with $125M raised and a $1B valuation. We grew 10x in 2025 and have scaled to 170+ employees in under two years across our NYC headquarters and Santa Barbara office.
In a $1T+ market where 85% of missed calls go to competitors, we're building the category-defining platform for AI-driven customer engagement, serving the largest brands in home services. With high-energy, in-office teams in both locations, every hire here has an immediate and visible impact.
ABOUT THE ROLE
As a Field Engineer on the Pre-Sales team, you'll be the technical builder behind how we win and enable deals. You'll own two things: the integration work that proves technical feasibility to prospects and partners during the sales cycle, and the demo tooling that lets the entire go-to-market team tell a credible, product-accurate story.
You'll work at the intersection of Sales, Partnerships, Product, Engineering, and AI, partnering with Account Executives and the Partnerships team as their technical counterpart. Unlike our Sales Engineers, who lead the customer-facing technical narrative, this role goes a layer deeper on the build: you're the person who can actually stand up a working integration against an unfamiliar API and turn it into a repeatable demo asset. This is a pre-sales role: you won't carry a closing quota, but your work directly determines whether technical buyers and integration partners trust that Avoca does what we say it does.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Own technical scoping and feasibility for pre-sales opportunities and partner integrations; turning ambiguous requirements from prospects, partners, and AEs into concrete, working implementation plans.
- Build working integrations against third-party APIs, CRMs, field service management (FSM) platforms, telephony systems, and partner ecosystems, writing real code, handling REST APIs, JSON, authentication, and webhooks, and getting a credible proof of concept working quickly.
- Build and maintain the demo and sandbox tooling the GTM org relies on: reusable demo environments, representative fixture data, and internal tools, treating one-off deal builds as reusable assets (integration patterns, reference implementations, scripts) rather than throwaway work.
- Configure and tune Avoca's conversational AI for demo and POC scenarios, including prompt engineering to reflect real customer workflows.
- Serve as the technical counterpart to Account Executives and Partnerships in the room with a prospect's or partner's engineering team, establishing credibility from the C-suite to individual developers, and translating those conversations into plans a non-technical AE can run with.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues that surface during evaluations, pilots, and POCs, protecting at-risk deals and partner launches.
- Partner with Product and Engineering to feed recurring integration gaps and field learnings back into the roadmap, and to keep demo environments current as the product evolves.
- Partner with (not replace) Forward Deployed Engineering and Implementation when a build needs to graduate from a working POC to a hardened production deployment: you own the pre-sales build and the demo layer; production delivery is a handoff.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
- 4+ years in a technical, customer-facing role: Solutions/Sales Engineering, Forward Deployed / Deployment Engineering, Implementation or Integration Engineering, Solutions Consulting, or software engineering with meaningful customer exposure.
- Hands-on ability to build. Proficient in TypeScript/JavaScript (Next.js, React, Node/Fastify); ships production-grade code and independently stand up an integration or demo tool, not just spec one for someone else to build. You don't need to be a production backend engineer, but "can build it yourself" is the bar.
- Practical experience integrating against third-party APIs and enterprise systems: REST, JSON, authentication/OAuth, webhooks, and comfort working from unfamiliar or incomplete API documentation.
- Working SQL and a solid grasp of relational data: enough to model, transform, and wire up realistic data for integrations and demo environments.
- Experience owning something technical end-to-end, from requirements through build, testing, and a working rollout, even if handed off afterward.
- Strong technical judgment and troubleshooting instincts, and the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- A product mindset toward internal tooling: you treat demo and sandbox infrastructure as a product with users (the GTM team).
- Familiarity with AI-powered products, conversational AI platforms, or data-driven systems. Bonus: prompt engineering, call center / communications platforms, CRM or FSM integrations, or prior Partnerships/channel support experience.
WHO YOU ARE
- Self-motivated, entrepreneurial, and comfortable operating in fast-moving, high-growth environments.
- A builder who thrives on owning things end-to-end and turning one-off work into something reusable.
- Autonomous, self-directed, and comfortable with ambiguity and incomplete requirements.
- A proactive, effective communicator who's equally credible with a customer's engineers and your own AEs.
- In-office, engaged, and eager to collaborate at our NYC location full-time.
BENEFITS
- Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance
- Company-sponsored 401(k) through Vestwell
- Flexible PTO plus U.S. federal holidays
- Company-wide off-sites
- Daily in-office lunch through Parkday
- Monthly wellness stipend
- Dinner covered when working late
- Commuter benefits and late-night rideshare
- Standing desks and workspace accommodations available on request
- All core tools and software provided
Compensation: The expected base salary for this role is $160,000-$200,000 with final compensation based on experience, skills, and qualifications determined during the interview process. Avoca’s total compensation package includes base salary, bonus, equity, and a comprehensive suite of benefits and perks. Our Recruiting team will share the full details as you progress through our hiring process.

Who is Tenable?
Tenable® is the Exposure Management company. Over 40,000 organizations around the globe rely on Tenable to understand and reduce cyber risk. Our global employees support 65 percent of the Fortune 500, 50 percent of the Global 2000, and large government agencies. Come be part of our journey!
What makes Tenable such a great place to work?
Ask a member of our team and they’ll answer, “Our people!” We work together to build and innovate best-in-class cybersecurity solutions for our customers; all while creating a culture of belonging, respect, and excellence where we can be our best selves. When you’re part of our #OneTenable team, you can expect to partner with some of the most talented and passionate people in the industry, and have the support and resources you need to do work that truly matters. We deliver results that exceed expectations and we win together!
Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S. without sponsorship. We are unable to provide sponsorship for work visas of any kind at the time of hire, or at any point during employment. This includes, but is not limited to: F1-OPT, F1-CPT, H-1B, TN, J-1, etc
Your Role:
The Senior Manager, Technical Excellence & Escalations leads the two teams that sit between Technical Support and the rest of the business: the global Technical Excellence team, staffed by our Technical Leads, and the global Escalations Engineering team.
Both produce Tenable's earliest and clearest signal about product supportability and customer risk. Both have historically produced that signal faster than the organization could act on it. This role exists to close that gap.
This is not a queue-management job. The Senior Manager is accountable for two outcomes: turning Technical Lead expertise and escalation findings into tracked change with Product and Engineering, and running one escalations practice that behaves identically in AMER, EMEA, and APJ.
The role sits within Operations & Scale and works in close partnership with the Sr. Director, who sets overall strategy and carries the executive narrative. The Senior Manager owns the operating model, the day-to-day practice, and the working-level relationships with Product and Engineering that make change actually happen. They lead senior individual contributors who are already force multipliers — which makes this a job about influence and orchestration, not direction.
Who You Are:
An orchestrator, not a bottleneck.
You create the conditions for senior experts to influence the organization instead of routing their work through yourself.
Technically credible.
You have the depth to earn respect from Principal-level engineers and to challenge an Engineering assessment that doesn't hold up.
A clear communicator under pressure.
You can hold a room containing both a frustrated customer and an Engineering lead, and translate technical detail into business consequence.
A systems thinker.
You are drawn to the pattern behind the escalation. You would rather fix the class of problem than win the individual case.
Comfortable influencing without authority.
Much of what this role must accomplish depends on teams you don't own.
Effective remotely.
You build trust and hold a team together without relying on being in the room, and you communicate in writing well enough that distance isn't a handicap.
A developer of senior talent.
You are energized by growing people who are already very good, and you give direct feedback.
Your Opportunity:
Technical Excellence Team
Run the operating model and product coverage plan for the global Technical Excellence team — every strategic product has clear lead ownership, defined authority, and no coverage gaps across theaters.
Set the team's working agenda: what leads work on, what they own, and how their time splits between reactive escalation support and proactive supportability work.
Turn Technical Lead findings — defect patterns, supportability gaps, documentation failures, recurring friction — into one prioritized, evidence-backed agenda, not a stream of individual product complaints.
Position Technical Leads as credible partners in Product and Engineering forums, with the data, framing, and support they need to influence rather than escalate.
Contribute to the Technical Lead career path with the Education & Enablement Manager, and apply it consistently — progression from Technical Lead through Senior and Principal, and the competencies that separate each grade.
Global Escalations Practice
Own the global escalations practice day to day: process design, entry and exit criteria, severity definitions, roles, communication standards, and adherence.
Drive it to a single global standard. One model, consistently applied and measured across all theaters, with regional variance only where legally or operationally required.
Operate and enforce the working agreement with Product Engineering — SLA adherence for escalated defects, prioritization criteria, update cadence, and follow-through on resolution commitments. Escalate structural breakdowns to the Sr. Director.
Own the quality of post-escalation output. Every RCA and post-incident report produces a tracked action, not a filed document.
Build the prevention agenda: analyze root cause patterns and drive the upstream product, process, tooling, or enablement changes that reduce escalation volume and re-escalation rate.
Act as the Technical Support point of contact for high-severity customer situations — providing assurance and coordination without displacing the assigned Escalations Engineer.
Driving Change Across the Organization
Represent Technical Support in roadmap, release readiness, and quality forums at the Product Management and Engineering Manager level, making the supportability and escalation-risk case with data.
Run the working-level feedback loop into Product and Engineering: defined cadence, shared prioritization, visible tracking from support signal to shipped change.
Assemble the evidence behind supportability investment — ticket volume, escalation cost, re-escalation overhead — and partner with the Sr. Director to convert it into a business case that earns engineering capacity.
Partner with Engineering on release quality gates so Technical Support has meaningful input before GA, not remediation duty after it.
Represent both teams in cross-functional work with Customer Success, Sales Engineering, and Professional Services where escalation or account risk is in scope.
Produce the regular supportability and escalation readout for the Sr. Director: narrative, trend, and recommendation — not raw metrics. Present directly to senior leadership as requested.
Work with the Operations Manager to instrument escalation and Technical Lead activity in TSO reporting, so the teams' signal is visible without manual pulls.
Leadership & People Development
Lead and develop a senior, highly autonomous, globally distributed team, including the Principal Technical Lead as a technical partner and strategic extension of the function.
Operate as a player-coach: hold the operating cadence and coach the team, and step personally into a live critical escalation or a difficult Engineering conversation when it matters.
Build succession depth in both teams and eliminate single-person dependency on strategic products and accounts.
Partner with the Education & Enablement Manager — a peer in the same function — to close skill gaps in both populations and feed field learnings into broader Technical Support enablement and certification.
Set goals, performance expectations, and measurement for both teams in line with global Technical Support objectives.
Drive AI adoption within Technical Lead and Escalations workflows under the Support AI governance framework, acting as the proving ground for capability the wider TSO will inherit.
What You'll Need:
8+ years in Technical Support, Escalation Management, or customer-facing engineering in enterprise software, with recent focus on security or vulnerability management.
3+ years managing technical teams — ideally senior individual contributors, technical leads, or escalation engineers. Experience managing remote and globally distributed teams strongly preferred.
Hands-on experience running an escalation practice or program, including process design and cross-functional coordination.
Demonstrated ability to influence product and engineering priorities using support and escalation data.
Experience operating within Support–Engineering agreements, including SLA adherence for defect resolution.
Comfort with support metrics and the analysis behind them — escalation volume, re-escalation rate, time-to-resolution, ticket volume reduction — and the ability to build the evidence case for investment.
Strong understanding of Tenable's product portfolio and security best practices, or the demonstrated ability to reach it quickly.
Technical foundation across networking, authentication, operating systems, and cloud (AWS/Azure/GCP) sufficient to lead technical discussions credibly.
Excellent written and verbal communication; comfortable with senior stakeholders and with customers at any level.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent experience.
Able to work in a hybrid/on-site capacity at our office in Columbia MD or Boston MA.
Available to provide leadership coverage for critical escalations outside standard business hours as needed, and to work across AMER, EMEA, and APJ time zones to support globally distributed teams.
Occasional travel as required for team, customer, and cross-functional engagements.
Flexibility to perform other duties as deemed necessary by management.
And Ideally:
Cybersecurity or adjacent enterprise security SaaS experience.
Prior time as a Technical Lead, Principal Engineer, or Escalations Engineer — credibility earned in the seat.
Product Management or program management exposure.
Familiarity with AI-assisted support workflows and their governance.
Experience supporting FedRAMP or other regulated environments.

The Data Science & Engineering (DSE) team consists of analytics engineers, data scientists, and software engineers and is responsible for enabling data-driven decision making and building data products at Wealthsimple.
The Growth Data focuses on driving new user acquisition and net deposit targets through marketing efforts including paid, organic, and branding initiatives. We work closely with cross-functional partners in Growth, Product, and Engineering to optimize our marketing investments and scale Wealthsimple's customer base.
The Growth Data team plays a critical role in enabling data-driven decision making across all marketing channels. We're looking for a Senior Data Scientist who will serve as a domain expert for one of our key marketing pillars, driving optimization through sophisticated algorithms, measurement systems, and strategic insights that influence millions of dollars in marketing spend.
In this role, you'll be the DRI (Directly Responsible Individual) for your domain area, building data products and analytics solutions that directly impact business outcomes. You'll work on challenging problems ranging from marketing optimization algorithms to attribution modeling, experimentation, and strategic measurement. You'll collaborate closely with marketing stakeholders to understand business needs and translate them into technical solutions, while also partnering with data engineers and other data scientists on shared infrastructure.
This is a full-stack data science role where you'll wear many hats: algorithm developer, measurement strategist, analyst, experimenter, and business partner. We're looking for someone who can hit the ground running with strong marketing analytics expertise and contribute to strategic direction from day one.
IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO:
- Build data products and algorithms that optimize marketing performance—including budget allocation, targeting strategies, and campaign optimization across multiple channels
- Design and implement measurement strategies for marketing initiatives, including attribution modeling, incrementality analysis, and multi-touch attribution
- Drive marketing strategy through data insights, A/B testing, and causal inference methodologies to maximize ROI on marketing spend
- Develop and maintain analytics pipelines and data infrastructure, working collaboratively with data engineers and other data scientists
- Conduct exploratory analysis to identify growth opportunities, understand customer behaviour, and optimize marketing tactics
- Provide business-as-usual analytics support including reporting, dashboards, and ad-hoc analysis for marketing stakeholders
- Leverage AI tooling to handle operational tasks efficiently and focus your expertise on high-impact strategic problems
- Partner with ad platforms (Google, Meta, etc.) and internal engineering teams to ensure robust tracking, data integration, and measurement capabilities
- Take ownership and ship it—continuously look for the simplest, most effective way to approach challenges; Occam's razor is your friend
- Work where you are (while our Canadian offices are located in Toronto, we are a remote-first workforce and you can join from anywhere in Canada!)
SKILLS WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
- Understanding of digital marketing mechanics including attribution, ad platforms, tracking, and conversion optimization
- Experience working with lifecycle data, understands various of ways of reaching out to new/existing customers and how they fit together holistically
- Strong technical skills in Python and SQL with experience building production-quality code
- Proven track record in algorithm development, optimization problems, or building data-driven decision systems
- Strong foundation in causal inference, A/B testing, and experimental design
- Excellent communication skills and ability to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders
- Demonstrated ownership as the data DRI on complex projects end to end, with proactive understanding of business context and how cross-functional teams build systems together
WE ARE LOOKING FOR SOMEONE WHO:
- Can use AI effectively to increase efficiency and depth of the work, while still providing the strategic guidance and critical thinking
- Has full-stack data science experience, comfortable with everything from dashboards and reporting to sophisticated algorithm development
- Can contribute to strategic direction in marketing analytics from day one with minimal ramp-up time
- Thrives in a collaborative, multi-faceted environment with ongoing alignment across stakeholders and data team members
- Is passionate about measurement and understanding what drives business outcomes, navigating the complexities of attribution and incrementality
- Ideally has worked at larger-scale tech companies that develop internal analytics and optimization systems
- Adjusts quickly to changing priorities and effectively manages complexity in a fast-paced growth environment
- Values simplicity and pragmatism, knows when to build sophisticated solutions and when a simpler approach will suffice
- Is eager to teach and learn. We value making each other successful!
- Is a lifelong learner who's constantly seeking feedback to continue improving their craft
WHY YOU'LL LOVE THIS ROLE:
- High visibility, high impact: Your work directly affects Wealthsimple's growth bottom line and influences strategic marketing decisions
- Diverse technical challenges: Develop expertise across measurement, A/B testing, causal inference, machine learning, and algorithm development
- In-demand skill set: Build valuable skills in marketing analytics and optimization that are highly sought after in the tech market
- Strategic domain ownership: Own a key pillar of Wealthsimple's growth strategy and build deep expertise in a lasting problem space
- AI-enabled efficiency: Leverage cutting-edge AI tooling to amplify your impact and focus on the most strategic challenges
