The Anthropic Institute Fellows (Economics & Policy):
Mentors and research areas include Economics (Maxim Massenkoff, Peter McCrory) and Policy, Security, and Society (Jack Clark, Marina Favaro, Jim Baker).
Projects may include:
— Designing and conducting empirical research on AI's economic effects using external data sources
— Developing new methodological approaches for studying AI's impact on labor markets, future of work, and society
— Analyzing offense–defense balance for AI-enabled cyber and bio capabilities as models scale
— Measuring model performance increases with custom harnesses
— Identifying market-driven mechanisms to improve societal resilience to AI threats
— Identifying AI R&D metrics as early warning signals for recursive self-improvement
Candidate criteria:
— Interest in economics or policy research; prior experience is a plus but not required
— Adaptable and collaborative, able to take direction and contribute to team priorities
— Skilled at writing and communicating results, including null or unexpected findings
— Passionate about translating research insights into actionable recommendations for AI systems and policy

Responsibilities:
— Design new cryptographic protocols (e.g. shielded state sync) to meet specified information flow, security, and performance goals.

— Expertise (formal or informal) in constructive protocol design and analysis of distributed cryptographic protocols.
Nice to have:
— Published papers in mathematics, theoretical CS, and/or cryptography.
— Experience with distributed systems and/or operating systems architecture/design.
— Experience with Zerocash/Zexe/VeriZexe and related architectures.
— Academic qualifications in a relevant field (cryptography or mathematics).

AI Security Fellows focus on reducing catastrophic risks from advanced AI systems, with mentors like Nicholas Carlini and Keri Warr. Candidates with experience in pentesting, vulnerability research, offensive security, CVE reporting, bug bounties, and empirical ML research are preferred.
Logistics: applicants must have work authorization and be located in the US, UK, or Canada during the program. Shared workspaces are available in London and Berkeley, with remote options in these countries. Visa sponsorship is not provided. The program duration is 4 months full-time, with possible extensions.
