Location: South Africa Workplace: remote About the Project  Project Hydrus is a scripted and conversational audio data collection project. We're looking for native-level speakers who can deliver natural, everyday-sounding speech — recordings that hold up whether you're reading a script or speaking spontaneously.  Please note: the recordings you produce may be used to create synthesized, AI-generated voices for conversational AI products. Full details on how your data is collected, used, shared, and retained are set out in a Consent Form, which you'll review and sign before any paid session recording begins.  What You'll Do If Selected:      - Two supervised sessions of approximately 4 hours each, guided in real time by a Session Director on a separate recording platform.      - Record scripted material in a natural, conversational tone — faithfully, without a polished, performed, or “announcer” delivery.      - Record unscripted, spontaneous speech on a given topic, matching the same warmth and pace as your scripted takes.      - Set up and manage your own recording space and equipment for session recording.      - Deliver all recordings entirely in the required language (with specific dialect), without code-switching into other languages or dialects.  What We're Looking For  Required      - Experience as a voice actor, actor, or theater performer, or a comparable performance background.      - Native or native-equivalent fluency in the required language (with specific dialect).      - Access to a quiet recording space, free of echo and background noise (acoustically treated for session recording, if selected).      - Owns or will acquire a dedicated, professional-grade microphone for the audition (e.g. RODE NT-USB Mini, Blue Yeti), upgrading to a qualifying USB condenser or XLR mic + audio interface for session recording if selected. Built-in laptop mics, AirPods, earbuds, and headsets are not accepted at any stage.      - Owns closed-back monitoring headphones (required for session recording if selected).  Comfortable both self-directing for the audition and taking live direction from a Session Director in guided sessions.  Preferred (nice to have, not required)      - Professional voice-over experience (dubbing/ADR, audiobook, podcasting) in a conversational rather than commercial/announcer register.      - Baseline audio hygiene: comfortable setting mic distance and catching noise, clipping, or distortion yourself.      - An existing home recording setup already treated for sound.  Commitment & Compensation      - Estimated time: Approximately 8 hours calibration, plus supervision across two recording sessions of ~4 hours each per participant      - Work Type - Freelance Remote     - Rate: $20.00 USD per hour   Your Data & Privacy  Before any session recording, you'll be asked to review and sign a Consent Form covering how your voice recordings are collected, used (including to train synthesized/AI voice models), shared with approved partners, retained, and how to exercise your data rights (access, correction, deletion, and more, depending on where you live). If you'd like to review these terms before applying, contact us and we'll share a copy in advance.  #L1-CC1 Why Join Welo Data?   ✨ Limitless Flexibility   Project-based opportunities that fit your availability. About the Client Our client is involved in an innovative data-collection project, which focuses on creating video datasets for training AI models. These AI models are designed to learn from first-person (POV) video footage. The captured videos depict real people involved in hands-on tasks with a mounted phone on their head or chest, paired with spoken narration. The purpose is to enable the model to connect visual inputs (objects, hands, actions) with audio descriptions. About the Role The Recorder role requires individuals who can master a specific hands-on activity from a selection of verticals. You will need to film yourself performing these tasks from a first-person perspective using your smartphone while ensuring the tasks are clearly visible. If fluent in English, you may narrate live; otherwise, ambient audio will suffice, and a separate narrator will cover the task later. Tasks & Deliverables — Select a mastered sub-area activity and record a complete end-to-end process. — Ensure hands and the procedure are constantly in focus. — Provide live narration if fluent in English or ambient audio for post-recording narration. — Deliver videos in MP4 format with accompanying JSON metadata. — Maintain narration density at 25 words per minute; ensure 90%+ of speech describes the setting or task steps. Required Skills — Mastery of at least one specific sub-area activity from the provided list (e.g., cleaning, laundry, organizing, pet care, repairs, gardening, sewing, woodworking, automotive repair, art, technology use, personal care, medical procedures, culinary skills, lab protocols). — Capability to record stable, clear POV videos with a smartphone. — Ability to work in a real setting without third parties in frame. — Competent in following a prepare → execute → finish script for filming tasks. Nice-to-have Skills — Experience recording tutorials or classes. — Access to various settings for diverse video backgrounds. — Owns equipment like a head/chest mount, image stabilization tools, or a good microphone. Rules — No personal data on video — no third-party faces, screens, documents, plates, addresses, mirror reflections. — 100% human narration — no TTS or synthetic voice. Engagement Details — Compensation model: Hourly paid, considering the total number of hours for approved videos. — Commitment Type: Flexible hours based on video submissions. — Duration: Ongoing, with earnings based on the number of approved videos. — Location: Remote, with flexible overlap with client's timezone. — Start Date: Immediate start upon approval of test video.

Location: Zurich, Switzerland Workplace: remote About the Project  Project Hydrus is a scripted and conversational audio data collection project. The recordings produced help build natural, everyday-sounding synthesized voices for conversational AI products — voices that sound like real people talking, not scripted performances.  As Session Director, you'll lead live recording sessions with Voice Contributors, guiding them through scripted scenarios to produce natural, conversational-quality audio. This hands-on role blends creative direction, coaching, and technical audio judgment — making scripted material sound authentic and unscripted, rather than recited, while keeping sessions moving at a natural pace.  What You'll Do      - Direct voice performers through scripted scenarios, coaching for natural, conversational delivery rather than verbatim recitation.      - Build quick scene context for performers (who, where, why) and improvise to fill narrative or dialogue gaps live, keeping sessions flowing naturally.      - Adapt scripted wording for natural phrasing and regional/dialect authenticity as needed.      - Monitor and correct technical audio quality in real time: mic technique, pacing, clarity, and background noise.      - Manage session pacing to meet recording targets without sacrificing performance quality, and maintain organized notes on adjustments and retakes.      - Create a supportive, low-pressure environment for performers, including those with limited prior voice experience.  What We're Looking For  Required      - Native fluency in the required language (with specific dialect), with a strong ear for natural, colloquial phrasing.      - Experience directing, coaching, or producing voice or audio talent (e.g., voice direction, casting direction, audio/podcast production, dubbing/ADR, or theater direction).      - Demonstrated ability to give clear, specific, actionable performance direction.      - Strong working knowledge of basic recording/mic technique (proximity, plosives, room noise, levels).      - Comfortable improvising and adjusting scripted material on the spot.      - Excellent interpersonal skills; able to build rapport quickly with performers of varying experience levels.  Preferred (nice to have, not required)      - Background in improv, theater direction, or acting coaching.      - Experience directing non-professional or first-time voice talent specifically.      - Familiarity with DAWs or recording software (e.g., Pro Tools, Adobe Audition, Reaper) for spot-checking audio quality. Commitment & Compensation      - Estimated time: Approximately 8 hours calibration, plus supervision across two recording sessions of ~4 hours each per participant      - Work Type - Freelance Remote Why Join Welo Data?   ✨ Limitless Flexibility   Project-based opportunities that fit your availability.
