We’re scaling fast and staying true to what makes us different: an open-source legacy, a global collaborative culture, and a passion for meaningful work. Our team thrives in an innovation-driven environment where transparency, autonomy, and trust fuel everything we do.
You may not meet every requirement, and that’s okay. If this role excites you, we’d love you to raise your hand for what could be a truly career-defining opportunity.
This is a remote position. We are considering candidates in Germany, Sweden, Spain, Ireland and the UK only.
The opportunity:
Grafana Cloud is our composable observability platform that integrates metrics, logs, traces, and profiles with Grafana. It allows our customers to leverage the best open source observability software – including Prometheus, Mimir, Loki, Tempo, and Pyroscope – without the overhead of installing, maintaining and scaling their own observability stack.
The Observability department is focused on enabling developers to understand the health and performance of their applications and infrastructure in any environment by providing tools to instrument their code, ingest observability data into Grafana Cloud and visualize and explore it.
What is the Ingest team?
We build and maintain the configuration and deployment tooling that bridges the gap between "I want observability" and "I have observability,". To achieve this the team owns
Fleet Management
, the
Kubernetes Monitoring Helm Chart
, and the
Instrumentation Hub
. Fleet Management is the cloud-based central control plane our customers use to manage hundreds of thousands of Observability Collectors in the wild. The Kubernetes Monitoring Helm Chart is used to effectively deploy Observability Collection in Kubernetes based environments. The Instrumentation Hub seamlessly combines Fleet Management and the Kubernetes Monitoring Helm Chart to achieve a magic 1-command instrumentation experience.
What You'll Be Doing:
Manage and develop the team of backend and frontend engineers, providing regular feedback and supporting each person’s growth through career conversations. This is a remote team, distributed between EMEA and NASA.
Collaborate closely with go-to-market to ensure customers and prospects are successful with their Observability collection journey.
Work closely with product and engineering leadership to ensure Fleet Management, the Kubernetes Helm Chart, and the Instrumentation Hub fit seamlessly into the end-to-end user experience for Grafana cloud products.
Provide guidance throughout the project lifecycle from early ideation through planning, execution and post‑launch guiding the team to deliver high‑quality results consistently.
Foster a psychologically safe environment where engineers can learn, experiment and iterate quickly, encouraging innovation and a culture of continuous improvement.
Work across team boundaries by contributing to projects outside your team’s scope and partnering with other functions to solve customer problems.
As a company we are remote-first and global, we embrace people of different experiences and backgrounds to build diverse teams where every person brings a new perspective to the software.
We invest heavily in developer productivity. You can use modern AI coding assistants as part of your daily workflow (your choice of tools, within security guidelines), backed by a company-funded usage budget so you can iterate quickly without unnecessary friction. We encourage pragmatic AI-assisted development: faster prototyping, test generation, refactors, documentation, and incident follow-ups—always paired with strong code review and quality standards. You'll also have access to the latest frontier models from OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google.
What Makes You a Great Fit:
Experience in either of these areas is a strong advantage: Observability (especially OpenTelemetry), or building a central control plane that manages fleets of collectors.
You will be comfortable working with engineering teams who have a strong sense of autonomy in their decision-making, be it technical or product focused.
While you’re great with people and adept at managing relationships, you still keep up-to-date with the latest technical trends and shifts in order to maintain and enhance your understanding of the challenges your teams face.
Comfortable collaborating across time zones and cultures in a fully remote environment, using clear, empathetic communication to build trust, connection, and psychological safety.
Demonstrated ability to manage complexity, align stakeholders, and elevate team performance to deliver meaningful, high-quality results.
Deeply customer-focused, consistently grounding decisions and technical choices in user needs and real-world impact.
Solid understanding of distributed systems principles, including scalability, fault tolerance, consistency, and observability.
Comfort with AI-assisted tooling.
We embrace AI and agentic development so we expect you to be curious and comfortable using AI-powered tools and ideally have practical experience folding them into a team’s workflow.

Senior Engineering Manager, Grafana Frontend
The Opportunity:
Grafana is an open-source observability product and a platform that teams and plugin developers build on. The Frontend group shapes its user experience (from dashboards and visualisation to navigation, search and sharing) and the foundations that support engineering teams and community contributors across the Grafana ecosystem.
As Senior Engineering Manager, you’ll lead the Frontend Platform and Navigation squads, owning their performance, delivery and customer outcomes. Frontend Platform enables teams to build reliable, high-quality experiences; Navigation helps users find and organise resources and move confidently through Grafana.
You’ll develop senior engineers, partner with Product and Design, and improve how teams work, including through AI and automation. We use Cloud-first rollout and experimentation to learn quickly, bringing relevant improvements to OSS and Enterprise.
AI Notice: We invest heavily in developer productivity. You can use modern AI coding assistants as part of your daily workflow (your choice of tools, within security guidelines), backed by a company-funded usage budget so you can iterate quickly without unnecessary friction. We encourage pragmatic AI-assisted development: faster prototyping, test generation, refactors, documentation, and incident follow-ups—always with strong code review and quality standards. You'll also have access to the latest frontier models from OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google.
What You’ll Be Doing:
Be accountable for the performance of
two
distributed engineering squads: set clear expectations, delegate effectively, coach and develop each team member, give timely feedback, address performance gaps and build a culture of trust and accountability.
Own hiring and team planning across both squads, aligning team capacity and skills with product priorities and longer-term needs.
Lead discovery with your squads: engage directly with customers, community members and internal users, combine their feedback with research and usage evidence, and use those insights to shape roadmaps and priorities.
Partner with Product, Design and engineering leaders to set priorities, resolve dependencies and make trade-offs between customer needs, long-term investments and operational demands.
Own delivery across both squads from discovery through rollout and measurement: set milestones, surface risks early and intervene when commitments are at risk.
Use AI regularly in your management work to synthesise research and feedback, inform roadmap and resourcing decisions, and streamline coordination, reporting and follow-through.
Improve how the squads plan, make decisions and deliver. Lead the adoption of AI and automation across engineering and operational workflows, evaluating their impact on delivery speed, quality and time spent on repetitive work.
Set engineering direction with senior engineers for the frontend foundations owned by your squads, including developer experience, accessibility, architecture, tooling, reliability and multitenant capabilities.
Set engineering direction for navigation, search and resource organisation, including where AI-assisted discovery can help users find what they need.
Set and uphold engineering standards for quality, security and operability, including how teams evaluate and validate AI-assisted work.
Lead improvements across Grafana and R&D that increase engineering productivity and improve business outcomes.
Participate in the engineering management on-call rota, coordinate responses and drive improvements that reduce recurring disruption. Regularly use Grafana’s AI capabilities for observability, incident investigation and management, bringing that experience into product feedback and roadmap decisions.
What Makes You a Great Fit
Significant experience managing senior engineers, building healthy teams and developing technical leaders. You give clear feedback and address performance gaps directly and fairly.
A strong technical foundation in modern web or frontend systems, enabling you to evaluate technical trade-offs and shape architectural and engineering-quality decisions with senior engineers.
A track record of turning ambiguous, cross-team problems into clear priorities and measurable results, managing delivery risks and operational demands.
Strong product and customer judgement, with the ability to connect engineering investments to user, developer and business outcomes.
Clear, concise written communication and the ability to work effectively in a remote, globally distributed organisation.
An appreciation for open-source development and the judgement to balance Cloud-first delivery with the needs of customers, community members and internal teams.
Practical experience using AI and automation in your own leadership work, and leading teams to adopt them effectively.
Bonus Points For
Experience with React, TypeScript or comparable large-scale frontend ecosystems.
Experience leading a developer platform team, including support for plugins or extensions.
Experience with navigation, search, information architecture or resource-management products.
Experience delivering multitenant SaaS or major platform migrations.

As a Staff Field Engineer, you are viewed by Sales and FE leadership as being in the top 20% of the field team, operating with little to no supervision on the company's most strategic engagements and serving as a mentor to Senior Field Engineers and Solution Engineers.
What You'll Be Doing:
Advise on and support some of Grafana's most strategic deals and customer engagements, collaborating with Solution Engineers and Observability Architects on the company's most complex technical challenges with no supervision.
Serve as a company-recognized Subject Matter Expert (SME) in one area of the Grafana Platform, and deep knowledge across multiple Grafana technologies, building new reference architectures from scratch and overcoming competitive objections in the field
Proven ability to craft and deliver compelling value based stories to help the sales team technically close deals.
Own end-to-end creation and curation of technical training content (workshops, how-to guides, demo scripts) for one or more product areas, and establish a repeatable content review cadence in partnership with Enablement and Product Management to keep materials aligned with the product roadmap
Architect, engineer, and maintain a live production environment that supports demo, workshop, and POV infrastructure at scale, ensuring reliability, security, and uptime.
Act as a key influencer in product direction, helping key customers adopt newer technologies, and represent Field Engineering in Product planning cycles to surface enablement gaps and shape investment priorities
Serve as a presenter for Strategic Marketing events (presentations, panels, webinars, conferences, blogs) as an ambassador for Grafana
Provide technical guidance for a specific product area to Solution Engineers, Observability Architects and customers, and present best practices to customers
Help update and improve product documentation, and contribute back to the organization through white papers, blogs, and product direction input
Mentor Senior and Staff Solution Engineers and Field Engineers
What Makes You a Great Fit:
Minimum of 8+ years of related technical experience, including 2+ years in a Senior Field Engineer role (or equivalent), serving as a SRE, Developer, Architect and/or successful presales Solution Architect. OSS development experience is a plus.
Excellent understanding of Grafana and associated technologies, with recognized Subject Matter Expert (SME) depth in at least one area of the Grafana Platform; deep working knowledge across multiple technologies in the Observability space (e.g. Grafana, Loki, Prometheus, Tempo, Elastic, Splunk, Datadog, etc.)
Expert-level knowledge in at least one adjacent domain (e.g. IoT, AI/ML) beyond the core observability stack, and demonstrated domain knowledge across the broader Grafana Ecosystem
Has created and maintained at least one product training asset (workshop, guide, or structured content) that has been adopted by the broader technical field organization
Demonstrated experience partnering cross-functionally with Product Management and Engineering to produce and maintain field-facing enablement content and influence roadmap priorities
Comfortable with at least one modern programming language, and a strong understanding of the modern software development lifecycle, including debugging and investigation
Working familiarity with Linux, including common tools
Practical experience using AI tools to generate and review code and to accelerate day-to-day tasks, while retaining full ownership of final decisions and quality criteria for the resulting work
Able to architect a modern application on one of the primary cloud providers (AWS, Azure or GCP), including IaC tools such as Terraform, understanding the tradeoffs between build vs. buy, and the technologies that make up that architecture such as Kubernetes, Docker, Serverless, Microservices and more
Proven track record building and delivering strategic technical content (workshops, demos, decks, webinars, videos) for technical audiences, including complex POVs and content that overcomes competitive objections
Deep understanding of the sales process, with the ability to anticipate and proactively address challenges in complex, strategic sales cycles

The Opportunity:
The Field Engineering team works closely with our Presales Solution Engineering team, as well as Product and Marketing, to ensure the SE's have the tools, collateral, enablement and experts they need to close business. If you've ever served in a Technical Presales role for a software company, you know just how much knowledge you are expected to have, demos you need to show, workshops you need to execute on, etc. The Field Engineering team maintains the backend systems, content creation and deep subject matter expertise that enables the Solution Engineering team to scale and focus on direct customer selling, community building, learning, and other adoption and revenue-focused activities.
